This is android not windows, "free ram is wasted ram"
Android utilizes/organizes ram differntly and very well so you dont need to worry when you have high ram usage...at least since ics. If too much ram is being used and theres not enough ram for new programs than android will automatically clear the least used applications

Someone said it, "free RAM is wasted RAM", to speed up your phone Android caches commonly used apps and processes and manages that based on usage.

ram used
It's a fair question, actually.
And the ram used in your screenshot seems about normal to me:victory:
Here is my screenshot with "normal" and then free ram/close programs command executed
(btw, the used ram dropped to 750, but immediately jumped up again to 800+ as you can see)
If you pay 20 workers to be in the office, why would you only want 10-12 of them busy?

Your Miui ram levels are about where mine were when I recovered ram using the Samsung close programs option. Normally we seem to be at ~ 1.3g ram of possible 1.7.
I'm curious, jball, if your ram used totals are normally that low, or is this screenshot right after clearing out old programs. Makes me wonder if Miui runs that lean, so to speak. (I had used Miui on my old S2, but don't recall the ram used totals. . )
Thanks!
This thread and it has provided some insights (even though I understand Android ram, android VM, etc.) Also, it's peaked my interest again in Miui --this time for the S4!
After clearing lol

Root your phone and run greenify. It is worth it if you want good battery life. That is one of the best apps out today.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using xda premium
I dont really want to root. I think the phone itself is pretty snappy and unlike 99% of the people on this forum I do actually like TW and a lot of the gimmicky features. I find some to actually be useful. I'll probably root after I get bored. The only thing I missed from having a rooted phone was tethering for free but foxfii is the perfect answer for that. Thats why I was asking for specifically unrooted phones. But thanks for your responses.

I've had this phone for about two weeks and I'm still on stock but rooted, no custom recovery, yet. I like TW as well, that's why I got this phone. I rooted to get rid of some bloat and for greenify. In the long run you would be happier.

rooting by itself won't remove touchwiz. it merely gives you more control over your phone and allows you to improve it as you wish.

"Android Lost" seems to be popular, though I've never personally used it. Android Device Manager (ADM) is free and simple. It doesn't provide a bunch of extra features, but they are slowly adding to the list of what it can do. If you are looking for simple and free, give it a try.

I've been wondering, what is the absolute most recommended KitKat compatible kernel for battery life, while staying mostly smooth? I personally don't mind a hiccup every now and then, but I just want the best battery life possible. I've been using Faux's 029 kernel and I was impressed, but I felt I shouldn't just settle there if there are better alternatives.
Cheers for any help possible, and my sincerest apology if this is a regularly asked question, but I haven't found an answer.

Newb or just a mistake? A lot of the "usage patterns" crap is actually just stuff they make up to avoid spam. Basic stuff like CPU usage and background stuff works on all usage patterns.

All newb! Just about any experienced xda member and smartphone user knows battery life is USER subjective and every device reacts differently to each kernel/rom . So I know you are like 15 but just try and remember important facts like these and that you just posted the number one no no thread hands down besides a eta thread.
PS.. the power of android and custom kernel/Roms is that YOU can flash different combos and then decide what works best for YOU.

Apologies, but assuming most people would want to use the device normally, with the screen on, things like CPU usage aren't entirely pattern based. True, wakelocks and background tasks raise the usage, but the rate at which the clock speed maxes and the rate at which it scales down doesn't usually work based on the way the device is used.

No they work depending on the kernel and how its designed to scale, once again this is kernel dependent, so posting this in the appropriate kernel thread you are using is much wiser.

I posted this in the general section because I thought this section would be more visited. Also, the whole point if the thread is that I'm looking for a good kernel, so of course that stuff is kernel based. I may only be in my teens, and yes I derp A LOT, but I usually know what stuff means.
Go to the Dev sections and find good kernels, its not difficult, read first, use second, post third....

Sometimes when you flash ROMs the tablet gets confused as to how much memory is available I've heard of it plenty times when going back to stock usually a factory reset or if that doesn't work reflashing the ROM. You need to get the tablet to reevaluate how much storage it has. It currently thinks it a 16gb version.

Considering that this person only asked about how to free up space on his Nexus, I doubt that would have happened. Of course I would have offered direction to the proper forum if it was something critical. I didn't find it surprising at all that after a few members jumped in to help, your post had be the one letting him know that he shouldn't be in this thread, nevermind any advice on his issue. But it seems that every time I run into one of your posts, it is almost never helpful yet very terse and usually rude. Most of your answers are either about the member being in the wrong sub forum or that they didn't read the changelog. It's almost like spam being posted over and over.

If we were to wait to inform the op that he was in the wrong forum until after he had done something like that, it would have been irresponsible of us to not head him off at the pass and try to prevent such a thing.
