I'm an American living in Japan and I just got a Galaxy S4 through Docomo. Question 1: They list it as the SC-04E, how do I tell what version (9500,9505,etc) it is? 2: Is it possible to root and/or install a custom (and hopefully fully English) ROM on this bad boy? Thirdly: They, for some odd reason, don't supply chargers with the phones out here. What amperage charger is my S4 expecting? I'm currently using my old charger from my Samsung Droid Charge.
Thanks in advance

I just googled sc-04e and it came back with i9505 just have to check your firmware to see if its root able but most likely should be and you don't have a locked boot loader like us over here in america so you'll be able to flash an English custom ROM.

Thanks. Guess I'll be ordering an official charger, since it seems very particular about it's power. I'll have to find a stock Docomo ROM before attempting any flashing, in case **** goes wrong.

Basically said it in the title. I have an Orange branded SIII (Orange splash screens) and would like to know if I can install a stock SIII ROM on it. I ask because:
A) The idea of having an Orange branded one irritates me (got it cheap on ebay)
B) Carrier-branded handsets get Android updates later (would this even help with that?)
If it is possible, could somebody provide me with a guide to finding the correct ROM and installing it? My phone is rooted with CWM.
Thanks
Hi I'd also like to know this but I'm not to keen on rooting just yet I just want to get away from bloatware and hope I can finally get Swapables working.
Cheers.

Yes. Just download the stock ROM you want (either using the files posted here or CheckFUS, which I find is faster) and flash it with Odin
There are already threads about this.

Sorry I did search but couldn't find anything.
I only asked as on the site I got the stock ROM from said not to flash to branded devices.
I'll give it a go anyway as I now know how to unbrick due to XDA.
I'll keep hunting.

Stock roms post flash stock rom for your location or as near a match to your current firmware version . No details given so no idea what it could be .

yes you can. but why not flash the latest LF6 ROM? it is the best one
So flashing from a branded ROM to an unbranded one will work fine?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
There are no hardware differences, only customizations in the ROM.
So yes, it will work just fine.
Sorry I meant firmware. Or, are roms and firmware the same thing?
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
Thats a tricky one to answer.
Firmware is a little more all encompassing than rom normally, usually not just including operating system but also baseband/modem software.
Generally speaking they are the same thing though.
Sent from my GT-I9300 using xda premium
But if I flashed from BVALE4 to XXALF2 (or any stock, unbranded firmware) it will work fine, yeah?

i didn't know if the s4 was like the s3 in that aspect that they are trying to see how many time you have flashed it through odin. but i uninstalled & re installed and get the same error weird?
It does.. Just wasn't sure if you were getting the custom icon on boot or if you just wanted it as a preventative measure

It works on Canadian S4.
I am surprised people are getting the triangle. i have flashed multiple different recoveries since i got my s4 and multiple roms. i have yet to see the triangle.

No not possible unless you break your phone and they give you a refurb one that luckily has MDL. Also questions go in the Q&A section not general.

Hello, at&t has pulled the update due to glitches. Some people reported that their phones wouldn't even turn on. Also you can't update your at&t galaxy s4 on Kies because at&t put a block on that... The reason they did that is so they can add all of their NSA crapware to your phone and lock it so you can't modify it as easy. If you really want 4.3 I would install a custom ROM. I'm still on 4.2.2 rooted. 4.3 isn't all that good anyway. Nothing new.

Is there a way to hit that reset button on att software update settings. It appears greyed out.

I did the same thing as you set it to 2015 and it let me look for updates, but it says update interrupted. Idk why but yeah. Maybe because I'm rooted idk. I wasn't updating anyway until a root method came out for mk2. Hopefully you can get it. If not take it to Best Buy and they can hook you up.

Hmm... That's weird. Have you tried clearing the cache?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I337 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
i just checked mine and it still says i have to wait over 24hrs, so even tho my time and date are back to normal the update software still picks up when i fast forwarded my time/date. just a thought here, but i think the only way to reset that could be to flash back to stock with odin, but you would lose all data doing this. so its either probably doing that or keep trying to fast forward your time and checking.

I was looking into the Safestrap method for Flashing a ROM on my ATT Galaxy S4 SGHI337. But my question is if that Safestrap method is only for the S4 active... If it is, is there any other method for safely flashing ROM to my MF3 basebamd version S4? PLEASE HELP
Have you even read the OP of ANY of the safestrap threads...and...do you even know which forum you are in?
Also, is your PC broke? Why is your font so large?
