Hi everyone,
Many people claims that their Xperia Z take water in their phone, even they close all covers
So I make this thread to help Z owner save their phones from water
1- Make sure that your phone not unglued like members confirmed in this thread
-->>> {DISCUSSION}Xperia Z back glass coming unglued

2- Open cover like Headset port and blow some Air there (Caution : don't force it, just little bit, to confirm that air don't get out from device)
3- Always confirm to close all covers of phone after charging or listening and I advise to let the window above remind you
4-Advise to how want to take phone to the sea, after swimming wash your phone with mineral water.
At the end hope all enjoy your beautiful phone, and taking care, it's your mate .

My biggest advice to the Z owners: It's not a ****ing submarine.
It'll survive spills, accidental drops in water, rain, some other moisture related incidents.
It's an electronic piece of equipment, protected only by wear prone flaps (seals might become loose in time) and a piece of glass stuck with glue.
It's not a pressure protected Mariana Trench Explorer.
Well, it's all there written is specs actually.
Specifically, Z got IP7 while ZR is fully IP8. Meaning:
Immersion up to 1m Vs. beyond 1m.
Testing time 30min Vs. continuous immersion.
Note the difference.
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ingress_Protection_Rating#Liquid_ingress_protection
Hope it helps.

Ohh! I see, I think I need to be careful with those sands, it may be the cause to malfunction the physical buttons, if something will stuck in there. Btw, thank you for the answer.

I'm all done with water tests, was fun for the 1st week, I'm happy as long it withstands heavy rain, but I certainly wont be swimming with it, I tend to give it a wipe with a small microfibre cloth if it gets a bit greasy
Felt brave and tested mine in the pool for about two hours. Pretty much went anywhere from 4ft to 12ft and still works great.
Hello guys, how could I restore the "water resistance" notice telling you to close the flaps? I accidentally tap on dont show this again
Took mine in the pool about 3-4 weeks ago, can no longer hear anything from the speaker. If I put my ear to it, I can hear it, just really really low. Tried everything from rice, hoover etc!

Anyone know where I can get a really good TPU case that is pretty thin?

Topic on this already...
1. It's a scratch resistant, not drop proof.
2. Laws of physics. The center of gravity is focused on the front for these phones since they're so light and thin. Yes it's more likely to fall on it's front like a bowling ball on a stick thrown up.
3. Counter balance this with a case in the back.
4. Sucks to be you.
5. Use the search button next time.

While these guys are being harsh, there is some truth.
gorilla glass is meant to be excellent against scratches, not breaking. That it cracked is not one of its features.
It sucks, but hopefully you can find a place to repair it. Would be interesting to know what a new screen would cost.

Look on eBay then
If you want something that is fall resistant buy a Nokia Lumia when having one of those things you should worry about your feet that your phone. Of course Samsung S3 is a delicate creature that has to be tendered with great care. There many fall resistant cases but to be honest the best protection is safety. I don't see how anyone would like to have a bulk that is twice the normal phone. A normal barely there casemate and a screen protector would do well for everyday usage. Thought there was another from case mate again that included a hell lot of protection. It had two parts, one rubber and the other a normal tough case but really that made the phone look like a satellite phone.
Alright sorry I thought it was break proof according to the video it looked like it. Also, it's not a big deal I still have 14 days to get warranty it was my fault and I can admit it, no need to be so rude about how it's my fault.
As for videos, I don't read much into them because those are mostly staged and does not reflect what really happens.
I remember watching a Gorilla Glass 2 video on youtube showing no scratches on one of the new Sony phones; I just laughed because they person was scratching with razor blades and hitting with a hammer; showing no damage. The only problem with that is the camera does not pick up the micro scratches which one can see with the eye (which the user shows it with no scratches in the video). Eventually the video poster did crack the glass after repeatedly hitting with a hammer.
There was also another video of the same phone being dropped in a big puddle of water and also it being ran over with a jeep...! Perfectly intact ha ha!
I have the flip cover and I drop my phone about 4 feet got a little scratch on the back 'maybe I'm lucky? but I think it was my case?

i dont really trust those online videos , you see them poking the phones with knifes , looking at the way/angle they hold it , its just minimal force

Because the Wizards of Sony used their magic so that the speaker doesn't let water through.
It may need drying for a short time after being wet but water wont damage it.

The neodymium is a flat type, non bent..and it is aligned to full coverage of the speakers hole with a probable support of rubber rings ... So the water reaches the neodymium surface but as long as it fits the slot, do not reach the circuitry. If you ever seen a new generation neodymium surface, it is just like a small coin..
I assume thats also why they recommend to not put the device into salted (sea) water...probably the salt may oxydate neodyumium and salt particles once dry they may also obstruct the tiny mic and spkr holes and substantially alterate spkr and mic performance.
Just on the case of contact with soap or salt, a quick and energic rinse with clean and sweet water may help
call me spartan or wherever hahaha but I just wanted to take photos underwater.. like sonys ad so took it to the test today..! lol
So it goes like this:
first test, compliance with Sonys 'water resistence' guideline:
-dip it under water and swing it a bit and take it to surfuce level = everthing ok
-touch screen hard to unlock using pattern, due to water residues across the surface so change it to swipe unlock only.
Now for the hardcore - taking foto underwater:
-touch screen will not work at all when it's fully in the water so u can't actually press the shutter button to take foto..
-result to use the self timer fuction to take foto, ie set it up above water level when touchscreen works, and press shutter button then let the timer tick and bring it underwater for shot
-works!
-but when bringing the Phone underwater, it actually sense the water level as it enter and triggered it as a touch to screen. Many times it registered it as the 'multi task' button and the side screen appears while the self timer camera still ticking down underwater, still takes the foto nonetheless.
-phone practically fully in the water anywhere between 10-60sec
-BUT just tried the speaker to play music, the output volume seems to be reduced alot, or not as loud as it should be before when at Max.
Hopefully this issue will restore later when phone drys up a bit
*Conclusion*
water resistance very legit
practically have it right next the pool with constant water splash around it.
Phone still fully functions (besides speaker reduced volume atm) even underwater for a minute.

They have a protective film that's water tight over or under the grill. That's why the external speaker isn't as loud as in previous devices but it's a compromise I'm more than happy to make.

I used the phone some times while taking a shower, worked really good. The device was able to distinguish the rain drops from a real touch most of the times. But sometimes the drops will also cause your device to be trippy haha.

Works fine in the rain... Was happily whatsapping away while the gal next to me (Samsung user) had to quickly put her phone away. :cyclops:
So I've had my Xperia Z for about 2 months now and it has endured water tests, and stress test (software wise). I'm completely satisfied with the results. However I was cleaning my phone with my microfiber cloth and noticed something odd when cleaning. As I look up at the top left of the device I see that there is a slight bulge or lift of the device I am wondering if this was after my long photography session I did with it as it heated up quite a bit and the Snapdragon S4 is around the same area. I'd like to know if anyone came across this lift / bulge and had any issues with it / got it back down because the uneven-ness bothers me mentally, I have still washed my phone however haven't fully submerged it since I've noticed bulge. I'll post some pictures on what I'm talking about, I figured someone here can help me out with this for I won't be close to a Sony Service Center to have a look at my device until July.

Your backplate is definitely loose. If I were you, I wouldn't submerge it anymore because I think it isn't waterproof anymore. Looks like the glue melted while you were heavy using your Z and caused the backplate to lift. You should definitely bring your device in for repair or replacement.
Try heat it up again at that point e.g. with an hairdryer and then press it for a time while it cools down again. Maybe it works.

Seriously buddy OMG...i had that top left panel unglue issue on my XZ...but this is seriously bad....
Go to Sony Service. I've read on another forum (cant' remember where) that a guy got his phone replaced for something like that.
When I read this I had to see how bad mine was since my backglass is unglued. Pulled off the headphone flap en lifted that other part up and tadaa, same issue. When I did it it made some noise like the glue fell apart.
I think you better don't try it, since it seemed to be good until I tried, lol. Gotta get my backglass repaired anyway so I'll tell them about this problem also. I hope they swap it for a new one haha.

I haven't used any chemical substances at all. I've used my phone like you should.
This is just weak glue, due to phone getting very warm, and while I listen to music the flap rests on the panel, which makes it open.
Why would anyone use chlorine on their phone

If it doesn't come up by itself don't try force it people. Sticking you fingernail under it will make it come off really easy. Doesn't happen just by headphone port. Happens by micro SD port to where the charging dock connectors are.

Since I'm going for a warranty repair anyway, I tried it and yes, you're right. I could open it too, if I gave it some force, but it still sticks fine , and doesn't constantly opening by itself - you really do have to force it

I haven't used any chemical substances at all. I've used my phone like you should.
This is just weak glue, due to phone getting very warm, and while I listen to music the flap rests on the panel, which makes it open.

Yeah I got my phone and not 3 days later it was plugged in on the kitchen island at my sisters when my other brother comes over with his son and not 2 minutes later I look up and hes yanking the cord and BAMMM all I see is my life flash before my very eyes... so funny cause it was super slow motion in my mind as the phone slides off the counter and hits the tile.. luck for me all I got was a scratch on the bevel.. unlucky as the Ottorbox defender case wasnt in stores at the time and didnt come in the mail fast enough

i droped mine 3 feet face down on marble
not even single scratch
i guess just lucky
i droped my iphone ,4-5 feet on tile and damn whole left upper corner dented but was happy with it coz the way it fell i thought would have been shatterd
Guys, you know there are 4 external parts.
Rear cover
Mid plate
Glass
S pen
The bezel you're referring to can be replaced for about £10/$15, with no skills and standard phone dismantling tools (which are often included in your purchase of spare parts).
This is why I don't use a case, and why I think people with aluminium phones are idiots. I've bought my replacement mid-plate (bezel if u like) and rear cover all ready for the day I eBay it, or if it gets too knocked up to look at.
Rejoice in your plastic, and don't spend £10+ on a case if the only reason you want it is to protect the plastic...
Did your note's edges hit the floor? If it did then it sure is a miracle:good:
*spen, front speaker grill, home button, camera and flash
For those pedantic few, I originally left out the bits which I think you can get away if scratched.

Do not try this with iPhone.
cracked screen
After like dropping the phone a thousand times (yes, quite sometimes while being drunk) the outer plastic frame has some scratches, and the top right corner has two cracks right abovethe front camera (which still works like a charm). Not so bad
lucky. i have dropped my phone so many times..
aaand she's still pretty from the inside.
