I don't know how to do a custom recovery with out root.. And every root I do try to flash it won't work.. I need help plz.. You can use this & restore your data back when done-the steps are in the op.

If all you need is custom recovery. Rom manager works and will allow you to flash cwmr right from your rooted phone- no pc needed.

[Q] Stock rooted

Motorola device manager says that there are updates available for my razr m. I'm wary to update "OTA" because I dont want to loose root/bootloader.
I'm pretty happy with the stock ROM (still called motoblur?) Is there a stock rooted rom with all the radio updates and security stuff thats the latest version?
The only other android phone I had was a sprint HTC EVO. That phone it seemed would always have a stock rooted ROM based on the newest updates. Is that the case with the RAZR M?
Thanks for the help and any info that can be provided guys.
Love this phone =)

I don't really want anything but stock rooted latest update ROM. Am I safe to just take the OTA?
I am rooted with unlocked BL.

Yeah, take the update, you'll probably need stock recovery to do it, and then re-root or you can just flash one of these: http://batakang.com/ftp/?dir=devs/mhous33/XT907 . The first zip can be flashed in recovery and the other is for RSD. You'll need to root these too, but that's easy enough if you're unlocked.
Okay I have safe strap recovery 4.33 or something like that. Where can I download the stock recovery?
I seem to remember clockwork was able to hot swap recoveries. Would that be a good method for swapping to stock then back to safe strap?
Also, do I just download the OTA in zip form? If so, where can I find it at?
Sorry for all the questions and thanks to everyone helping me with this.

Attached has recovery & see rom Mgr link for ota steps
Okay I have the stock recovery downloaded. What is the best way to flash it? Can I flash stock recovery from within TWRP?

Yes.
For the life of me I can't figure out how to do that. I've nosed around everywhere in safestrap and can't find where to go to flash stock recovery. You have been a lot of help already man thank you.

Could you just fast boot it... fastboot flash recovery "filename"... like you would twrp.... I really have no idea...

Thank you I'll try that.

Yeah, I haven't found a stock recovery.img that's flashable. Just flash the stock recovery.img in fastboot, exactly the same way you loaded up TWRP.
I took the ota with twrp installed and unlocked BL. It flashed and at the end twrp asked if I wanted to fix root, I selected yes and kept root. I was wary in doing it by reading the forums, afraid I was going to lose root, but it stayed. I'm now using stock ROM with arrrgh kernel and seeder. Its running extremely smooth.

I was cleaning up & deleted it. Fixed.
Where can I find arrggh kernal and seeder?
Okay so because of a previous response on this thread, I took the OTA. I had TWRP, root, and unlocked BL.
After the update, TWRP appears to be gone along with safestrap. I think my bootloader is still unlocked but I'm not sure how to tell.
Can someone please tell me how to get root back and how to get my customer recovery back? I am having such a hard time with this phone getting it to work properly. I remember with my EVO I had it down to a science but I've forgotten a lot of steps and many things have changed since then.
I need like a noob guide I think lol.
To reiterate, got latest OTA. My bootloader is still unlocked as far as I know. Need root and custom recovery back. Thanks XDA.
Next is flashing the arggh kernal and seeder I guess. First things first though.
Should have used voodoo. Now just fastboot cwmr img & flash UPDATESU both on my goodies page. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2327340
You can extract the img out of the zip.

[Q] Can't root my Razr M 4.1.2

I have tried various methods to rooting my android device, but to no success. Motochopper gets to the root, then says it failed, and its cleaning up. It does this every time. I also tried to download EasyRootICS but the url doesn't work for some reason. can someone please help me root my Razr M 4.1.2 so I can install Cyanogenmod.

Which system version do you have? If it's the latest OTA, you need Motochopper 1.3 to root it. Also, if it is the latest, you can't install cyanogenmod because the bootloader unlock is patched...

I’m cant update to KK. Help!

I’m cant update to KK.
I have two Razr M phones
The old one was running KK, since yesterday I rooted it and unlocked the bootloader!
I have a new xt907 which was running JB, rooted, Safestrap was installed .
I can’t update the new phone to KK.
I read every thread on update problems
I uninstalled Safestrap
I tried to flash every version of fastboot files with RSD lite and even the Universal script generator , which worked fine on my old phone when I upgraded to KK.
What do I try next?

[Q] I just rooted my M, is it safe to install Xposed on the stock rom?

So this is not my first rooted device but it is my first time rooting my Razr M since it got upgraded to Kit Kat. It is also my first time installing Xposed so some help would be appreciated.
Yes is safe to install xposed... here is a nice collection of modules ... Be sure to unlock your boot loader before the next ota is pushed as when the next ota comes we may not be lucky enough to find a root method...

Is unlocking the bootloader necessary if i don't plan on installing any custom roms? If i needed to return to stock i could just use RSD right?

When the next ota update comes you will lose root and if there isn't a root exploit for that version with an unlocked BL you can always flash SuperSU via recovery and get root back... And yes rsd is an option to return to stock to accept the next ota

Alright. Thanks for the help.
But just to make sure, unlocking the bootloader is not necessary for Xposed right?
Correct.... But is strongly recommend

Most recent update

Ok so I have all but the most recent update on my phone and its rooted and I have twrp installed as a custom recovery. From what I understand I can not flash the most recent update because its not a full update it just tweeks some things. So to my question is there anyway to flash the stock recovery so I can get the update.

Thanks

I just updated but didn't lose root. :good:
A coworker with a RAZR HD said he updated I checked his root and it remained as well. Apparently update does not break existing root.
