How many times did your GS4 fall to the ground?
Mine just once down the side of my car's seat
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
3 times at aproximately 1 feet height, but inside a leather pouch with also a otterbox commuter, so no worries. :fingers-crossed:
In your opinion is it a fragile phone or a solid one? I mean would it easily bream with a tpu case surrounding it?

Nothing is solid when falling on concrete or landing on a corner from a certain height.
True story
Sent from my GT-I9500 using xda premium
3 times.. about 1.5 Meters each.. Nothing happened, just small scratches on the back.
All modern phones with big screen are fragile to me, even in an otterbox, but they are the best for me, so i get the commuter.
My old S3 was only dropped once outside the leather pouch with an commuter, at about 2 feet and nothing happened, but even with the best case, phones with big screen can break.
quite a few times actually. I think about 4 times. One time from 2 meters and it's still kind of working, I am having random shut offs but this came much after the fall so I don't think its related. Besides I had a snap on cover on. Not that it protects against shock damage but it keeps the frame intact.
Never dropped and never will!
hopefully
Had my s4 between my legs on car seat forgot it was there and when I got out phone fell to floor with just a s-view case on it all happened in slow motion but it survived with a few scratches on the side bezel and you have to look for the scratches to see them but I know they are there, I wouldn't mind but its the first time I've left the house without my pouch(gutted) but you can get a new rear housing for £15 if I need or if it bugs me enough...lesson? dont leave home even if its for 5mins without protection.??

None, and if it drops i have the ugly otterbox defender case on it
So if it drops it stays good i hope lol
1 time.
Nearly a month ago, I dropped my phone from ~2 feet when I was picking up my kid daughter. My phone was in my shirt top pocket and I did not had any case or cover on it, although I had a screen protector.
Phone fell off on screen flat on ground (not on corners), and there was a loud sound when it hit the floor. I was completely sure, the screen is gone because I was following this topic on xda about S4 screen and how easily it was broken for some guys.
But to my surprise, nothing happened. No crack or scratches on screen or on phone. Although the fall made some holes in screen protector. Apart from that it was OK.
So the phone is pretty tough but there are some cases where screen was broken easily and that could be caused by faulty units.
So my advice is always buy one time screen replacement service along with phone. It's nearly $10 here, or get a insurance (at least for first year) which typically will cost same but cover lot more then just screen damage.

Just wanted to say that I've noticed a lot of posts saying how fragile the SGS3 is, now I don't know if I'm lucky or if those who's s3s have broken are just unlucky but I've had an awful lot of accidents with mine the past few weeks, including dropping it on hard concrete from my ear (about 5 foot 9 inches) a few times, dropping it down the stairs, dropping it onto a bedside lamp that I'd places in the floor during a sort out (my S3 actually smashed the lamp stand lol).
The only problem with my S3 is 2 small scratches on the bezel.
So is the S3 so fragile afterall or am I just lucky?

I agree, this thing is hardcore. I went to sit in my friends car, as I was sitting I was closing the door and my phone fell out of my pocket and shut the phone in the door. I was wtf just happened. Then the phone fell to the ground when I opened the door. The stock battery got twisted and battery cover was scratched. I turned it on everything worked, no scratches on the screen. Two hours later my case came in the mail. I ended up buying two qcell batteries from Amazon.com. I was able to straighten the battery out a bit. That thing still works...
I don't think you're lucky, just a really nice device...

I don't see any posts about how sturdy it is so I assumed it was extremely fragile

There are posts in this forum and other site saying cracks on the bezel:-
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1823328
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1704533
I have never thought a mobile phone may survive from several feet falling, but I would not expect my phone cover material crack after several months usage. I have noticed that these posts have been started a month ago, and not seen so much post complaint the same issue. Just hope it is only some sort of manufacture defect batch, otherwise this is major headache for Samsung according to the production size of Galaxy S3.
Well I am liable for a direct exchange via courier anytime I want as long as I only do it once, so I'm waiting until I find the right case and screen protector for me then I'll do the exchange and have a scratch-free phone.
I also have a few small scratches on the screen that were caused by sand when I was on holiday.

I dropped my phone 5 times already (a few pretty nasty falls) and it is perfect, no scratches. I am pretty sure an iPhone would be destroyed quickly in my hands

I'm extremely clumsy, plus I have an involuntary habit of throwing everything up in the air and catching it (and sometimes not catching it lol), sometimes my mind just drifts off and without realising I start throwing my phone in the air and catching it, which sometimes results in my dropping it

Butter fingers confessional thread?! I've seen it all now!
After seeing how much Apple are paying for witnesses, I wouldn't be surprised if they pay people to make the GS3 look bad in forums. Or I wouldn't put it past HTC One X fans doing it voluntarily for free.

Ye me too, the remote is the thing I throw the most I have no idea why I have this habit but my fiancee hates it, mostly because we're on our 3rd remote now due to the other 2 getting broken
When I threw my phone up and didn't catch it, it landed in my lamp and smashed it, me and my fiancee couldn't help but laugh at the fact a so called "fragile" phone smashed a thick porcelain lamp with no damage to the phone

drop test was situational, would survive without breakage depending on how it lands.
water drop test was unexpected. was glad it oculd survive.
thanks.
why am I seeing so many cracked screens on ebay and among friends?
I'm just curious, because I am considering getting a GS3 and I have seen firsthand quite a few with cracked up screens, not quite as bad and the iphone folks, but I don't want to get another phone that is going to break on me without even dropping it.
I was walking out to roll up my windows and went to put my phone, without the case on it, in my shirt pocket and I missed the pocket and there it went.. smacked the concrete landing on I believe the top right corner and mostly the back side.. The back battery cover is all scratched up but no big deal.. I immediately put my otterbox commuter case on it like I should have had on anyways.. now believe it or not, I used it the rest of that day and till about 3pm the next day and I was just scrolling down my Facebook news feed when I felt my phone click.. I started looking at it like whaattt? Well, whataya know? My screen I guess finally gave in and a crack formed across the upper right quarter of the screen. From the LED Indicator to the Power Button.. The Digitiser and LED seem ok though. Just seemed odd to crack like that kind of outta nowhere like it did. Maybe my case caused some pressure on my weakened screen after dropping it and the screen just gave up? I've seen things like that happen before but not like this.

I guess you've all been kinda lucky by now...
I've dropped mine 4 times from my pocket onto concrete and can't count the times I've fell asleep and dropped it out my hand and all I've got is a few scratches on the $4 TPU case.
I'm not sure if anyone else does this, but if you're agile enough, try to get your foot under the phone before it hits the ground to cushion the blow... I know I've saved the phone on quite a few occasions by doing this!
So,
I've dropped my NS4G countless times, and twice into water fully submerged. I freaked out every time, and when it was in water I wiped it dry and checked the battery water-indicator. Nothing, no change, no damage. This phone is a beast when it comes to physical trauma at least for me.
Anyone wanna share their stories? Or maybe horror stories of how easily it broke.
I'd say that was pure luck. My Sony Xperia Play digitizer stopped working after I applied wet screen protector (never going to use those again).
But the Galaxy S and its variants are one of the most durable phones by Samsung, it has gone downhill since. I would not recommending dropping an S3.

I've only dropped my NS4G once. Standing up in the restroom it fell out of my pocket onto the tile floor. No damage, but probably due to the TPU case I was using that day.
However, being in the consumer electronics retail workforce, I can honestly say that I've installed over 200 invisible shields on phones and tablets. Out of those, only one damaged the product. Wouldn't you know it, it was a friend's phone, but it was also about 2 years old at the time and had been dropped, therefore the edges of the screen were no longer sealed. Since she paid for the service the store replaced her phone.

I went swimming with my Nexus S back in July. I was is the water 10-15 minutes before I realized it was in my pocket.
Once I realized my stupidity, I went in and laid my Nexus S on a towel with the cover off and the battery out. I let it bake in the sun for about 4 hours then put it back together. It has worked great ever since.
I was actually a little disappointed. I thought this would be my excuse to get a Galaxy Nexus. Nope, can't find any excuses to get rid of my Nexus S Great phone!

I dropped mine in the toilet XD I was doing number one and was playing music. I was really into the song and didn't wanna pause it and put it in my pocket so I just held it between my shoulder and my cheek but then I dropped it lol. I quickly put my hand in the toilet to get it out, washed it THOROUGHLY and put it in a cup with rice. Everything was fine except for the speaker. 24 hrs later it fixed itself though
Survived a torrential downpour.
Day 1: it charged but didn't indicate it was charging with charger, no USB functionality.
Day 2 indicated it was charging with charger - no USB functionality After 3 days it was fully functional.

had my nexus s 4g drop from... oh Id say 35 feet onto a metal nob. no- it did not survive. But I gotta say the glass is super thick, so thought the screen might have made it, but nope. $190 ebay bucks later and Im back with my NS4G
I dropped my Nexus S a couple of times from jeans pocket height unto rough garage floors. Aside from minor nicks and scratches in the bezel, phone still functions normally.
Oh yeah and I'm disappointed as well for not getting my excuse to get a GNex.

Dropped once and then took it out of water, very scared, and then pulled off the battery. Use a cold hair dryer for 30 minutes to dry it. Turned it on. Some weird functionality. No Speaker phone, no phone speaker phone.

I am sick to my stomach. My new phone (3 days old) just dropped about a foot or so and shattered the screen unbelievably.
My Atrix took half a dozen drops like that (and from higher) and never cracked. What a frickin' joke this so-called Gorilla Glass is!
Is there a reasonably priced way to replace the screen? The phone still works but it looks like total crap.

Might wanna try holding on a little tighter
Dont think i've ever dropped the s4 and not even a scratch on the screen although the S-view cover helps to grip it i think. The olephobic coating has worn away now and it gets grimey which is annoying.
The s2 got dropped on concrete and on a gravel path when throwing a stick for the dog. Survived OK
The thing I am wondering about, having watched several videos, is that they are all almost completely dismantling the phone before replacing the glass.
Check me on this, but the glass screen is NOT connected to any of that stuff.
If I was replacing the AMOLED/digitizer I could see all that being necessary.
However, once the battery, sim and sd cards are out, why not just go ahead with the removal of the glass?
Anybody done it that way?
Hi there!
I'm I the only one that is being bordered by the fact that he/ she has such sweaty hands that they will kill their phone eventually ? In the past I used a silicon cover for my previous phone to prevent the leakage of moisture inside my phone, now with the note 3 I'm using the official Samsung flip case without sview. Should I be worried that moisture may get through the openings where the phone is clicked on the cover?

surely, you can't be dripping so much sweat that its going to affect the phone......if you are....you best get to the doctors mate and get it sorted.
maybe just use a silicone S case....then the sweat will stay on the screen and you can wipe it up

But I guess I'm not the only one with sweaty hands so I guess/hope the phone can take it..

So I'm wondering if anyone else out there has make a mark on their baby yet. (Side note: the fake metal sides are cheap af. Haha, the other day I was driving a fork lift truck at work like I usually do and I guess I was going to fast when I hit a bump and my phone flew to where my feet was and then to the ground face down. Luckily the only damage done was a tiny nick to the screen that you can't even tell it's there unless I point it out. It was bugging me to death the first few hours but now I barely notice it. Can't be seen with screen on either. I was rather disappointed to. I have a phone cover on it and it shouldn't of gotten scratched but oh well. It could of been worse.
I have some hits on the frame around the screen, 2 scratches on back cover and 2 more barely noticable on the screen. That's it.
The world played out in slow motion the first time I dropped my phone. At this point though there are a few very minor scratches along the edge of the phone around the screen.
