Chuckles on the Tablet 101 section. - Nexus 7 (2013) General

Google's definitely trying to step up it's tablet game, and they've done a pretty good job so far with the Nexus 7s and Nexus 10. I'm also glad they're trying to do the same in the Play Store.
...buuuuuut in a classic Google oversight (namely, just something silly), go ahead and punch up the Play Store, and head into the Tablet 101 section. Now look at that gloriously pixellated Tablet 101 shopping bag graphic!
Or I might just be crazy, but I'm pretty sure someone just overlooked what that would look like on the new Nexus.

haha yeah that's awful. that's an old pic tho.. I remember that from my HTC flyer days.

Have a nexus but I want a 10' too

So I have my nexus 7 that I love and its got so much to give but I also want to have a 10 inch as well so I saw the Motorola xoom 32gb on daily steals for 200$ and I bought it. should I keep it or flip it for 350 on Craigalist and get a different 10 inch? I believe the xoom got jb so I thought why not? Cheaper than my 16gb nexus 7 lol

Wait for the n10 to be released?
or the infinity.
The 10 is better for web browsing i suppose.. But since I've had my nexus I don't use the ole prime to often anymore. Only when its time for serious business with a keyboard.
i guess you should determine what you'll use it for. looks like you have android devices in 4.3, 7, and 10 inches. i also have 3 android devices in the same sizes. I found I don't need 3 devices, so the 10" gets no love. $200 for that Xoom seems like a great deal.

Personally I'm not a fan of the 10" form factor. However, if I were going to invest in one, I would get the Galaxy Note 10.1 and dump the Xoom.
Just my opinion.

I have had a acer a500 tablet since the day they were released.. Its now got a custom bootloader twrp recovery and AWESOME Roms . They have a cm 10 4.1.1 working on it well for the most part.. but i have not touched it since i got the nexus 7 . I would agree with the 7 inch being the Prime size.. My Spouse has been using my acer .So it might now no longer be my property .. Hope she enjoys it But will return it when i wanna tinker with it again...
Help get my a500 back...
Well I don't game much on my nexus I play the occasional dead trigger or Game Boy emulator. I mostly use it for Web browsing and texting via tablet talk. I think it's fun to use my nexus at home better I never take it anywhere. I'm gonna start college in the spring and I want a 10 inch tablet that not only is easy to root and do all sorts of flashing but I can use for school. I just feel like my nexus 7 is the perfect phone without being a phone haha. The infinity looks amazing. Higher than my expectations for a tablet right now to be honest. Considering the good things I've read about the eos jelly bean roms I might just stick with the xoom.

Nexus 7 - Suitbable for a young 'un?

We were going to get my 6 year old an Nintendo DS for his Xmas, due to the games on it for his, plus the fact that they do educational games!!
But, I've now started getting to thinking about getting him a Nexus 7...
I'm after a Nexus 10 once it's released, so was wondering if people here feel that the Nexus 7 is a good choice for a young person!!
He love the games that I have on my HTC One X+, and i'm sure there are plenty educational games on the Android market...
I did see that there are some 'kid' tablets, but have read that for the money they are pretty rubbish!
Would also mean we could play with it once he goes to bed!!!
Any thoughts?
Maybe with a bobjgear or gumdrop case.but even then I'm not sure it would hold up. The nexus 7 seems quite easly cracked screen
I say go for it. Get a bobjgear case and tell him if he breaks it he won't be getting another one. Teach responsibility at a young age.
So far, he's been good with our Android phones, so fingers crossed he's leared his lessons!!!
:good:
Everyone has their own idea of parenting, but to me a Nexus 7 is too expensive for a toy. It will break in the hands of an average six year old.
There are a lot of great games for a six year old. A lot are even educational.
I would suggest the parent maintain ownership, and let the kid use it as a (minor) reward. The parent will love it...
But then I freak out at high school freshmen taking IPads to class...
When I was six my friends and I played with sticks in the woods and our parents couldn't get us to come home for dinner..... what the hell happened to kids?
No. Just.... no.

So just because you grew up without electronics and such it's bad for the next generations to have this stuff? This isn't the 60s anymore.
Sent from my Nexus 7
I don't think it would be bad, but there's no parental controls. So there is that chance of something naughty being seen. I picked up my kids a Nabi 2 tablet, it runs ICS, but has a very child friendly and child proof skin that's password protected to get to the main android ui. It also comes with a case. Just a thought.

My 3 year old loves the nexus. However, I (and him) find that the iPad has better apps for kids. The quality of the apps I've found on the apple side seem much better. This is just my experience.
That said, there are some good apps on the android side as well. Since you are talking about a 6 year old, I don't really know what apps they would like.

The new asus nexus qube

So has anyone else seen the new ASUS NEXUS QUBE I guess you guys remember the NEXUS Q right LoL well anywho this device is a joint exercise with ASUS and GOOGLE its what the NQ should of been and a whole lot more from what I have read it can stream video and music and your movies and our favorite games right to our big screen t.v.'s from our NEXUS 7's and the way they are talking we could have it on store shelves in a few weeks "HOPEFULLY" there is already two apps in the PLAY STORE for it and CHRISTMAS is right around the corner price could be a couple hundred dollars it looks like they have let this and the docking station out just in time for CHRISTMAS what do you think GOD BLESS YOU GUYS

Yeah I just went back to the article in the app called APPY GEEK and they said that it's going to be like ROKU in a way and a little more I suspect from what they said also it is a USB DONGLE and it's already gone through the FCC this also has the two apps I mentioned before and described them to be like remote type apps this this thing sounds AWESOME and is definitely moving forward

Buy or not?

So I'm debating to get my dad a nexus 7 16gb wifi only from staples for $200,for his b day.. My question is,
What's the common issues? I know reviews are really high but all things have some issues despite people who buy it and a day later review it without having it for some time.
Was it worth it? Do you guys love it or hate it or get annoyed or what? Either this or a electric Fireplace space heater...

I love my nexus 7, its the most up to date google software device running jelly bean. Its pretty smooth on stock software, i SUGGEST the 32gb model, i have it and it was 269$ total that was with ny 8% sales tax. They are selling it pretty cheap it take them about 180$ to make it and they sell it for not much of a profit. THIS IS PURELY GOOGLE software. No ASUS overlay like cellphones or anything. Its great it and the BEST tablet for the money.
Cons: No rear camera, no external SD slot, on stock software you cannot view landscape mode on homescreen and do not purchase from gamestop have not heard good things as in LCD problems and such. I suggest staples, walmart, or playstore.
Hope this helps!

Buy it, you'll have no regrets. I'm sure your dad will love it, just like we love our N7 devices. It's one of the best tablets on the market.
Honestly, I think the N7 is just about the best $200 you can spend as far as technology goes.
Mine is basically defect-free. That hardware is really nice. It's a convenient size, great for reading, email and web-browsing.
However, only you know your dad. If you think he'd like a tablet, the N7 is definitely a great one!
I found this to be ironic since I bought an electric fireplace heater AND nexus 7 recently

For my dad I would go with the heater, because he's not into these types of toys. But like someone said, only you know your dad, and the fact your considering getting him one speaks volumes, so as an opinion I say go for it. My 32GB was the best $260 I've spent in a long time.

I don't know your dad's age but I did something similar I'll describe below.
My step-dad is 61. He's never been real big on technology, he likes using it, for example he's a movie buff and loves home theater stuff, but he really doesn't care at all to know how it works or why it works. He's the kind of person who mysteriously ends up with the strangest toolbars ever on his computer when all he was trying to do was type something in notepad.
When he saw my first tablet, which was when the ipad launched originally, he fell in love with having a big screen and touch interface. So I got him one for Christmas and half expected him to use it for a little while and get frustrated or bored and shelve it longterm. But to my surprise he took to it with no problems and lived on it.
Fast forward a few years to the Nexus 7 launch. A few weeks after the Nexus 7 launched (I bought at staples before the pre order fiasco prior to launch day) he had surgery, heart surgery actually. He had some minor complications and ended up staying in the ICU a few weeks instead of a few days. There was no TV where he was.
His surgeon really stressed to us that he couldn't be working from the ICU, so his own ipad was out of the question. I went and bought a case for the Nexus 7 and then loaned it to him in the hospital. He usually likes big screens and large print, but he says the 7 inch screen is perfect for him and he really liked the Jelly Bean OS and interface a lot. Now he's begging for his own Nexus 7 after using those for a few weeks.
When I'm caught up financially I will buying him a Nexus 7 for sure. Even for a "bull in a china shop" type person who's not a techie, the Nexus 7 is one of the best overall devices I think you could give as a gift. The tablet and jellybean just work, and work great, and it's not much of a learning curve.
Just buy it. It's a greatest device for its money with powerful cpu+gpu plus the grate service support (hope you never needed). The only bad thing is that the glass is not gorilla glass but just Corning class so you must be gentle with the screen.

Nexus 7 versus Transformer Prime

I've had a Prime for a while, now, and I paid a lot of money for the thing. I thought a 10-ish inch tablet would be awesome, and I thought for sure I'd eventually buy the keyboard connector. Never bought the keyboard connector, and while I'm not unhappy with a 10" screen, after getting to hold and play around with the new Nexus 7 earlier today, I really started to feel like I might enjoy a smaller tablet better. Not to mention, I had high hopes the Prime would get good custom ROM support, and for the most part, it always seemed pretty lackluster in that regard.
Part of me REALLY wants to buy a new Nexus 7, but I've kinda been spending a lot of money, lately, so I feel like I should just not bother. There's also the fact that I feel bad about buying a new tablet when the other one I have (that I paid $400-500 for...) works just fine.
I dunno... Anyone think it's worth the trade-off, or should I stick with my Prime?
Get the nexus 7 right meow!

I went from a TFP to a N7 and I'm much happier. I use my tablet a lot for reading and the 7" form factor is so much nicer. I just bought a new N7 last night... I've thought about another 10" tablet, but the size is just unappealing now.
I'm kinda kicking myself, because we sell them where I work, and I was very much contemplating buying one last night, but I ultimately chose not to, to give it some thought. I go to work later today, but I have a feeling that by the time I get there, we'll be sold out.
I have a Transformer Infinity with dock and loving this new N7 tablet. Do I regret getting the infinity? No, it's had a year run on it and I'm sure I can still get a nice price on it.

Yeah, get the N7 (I had the Prime and Infinity last year) Unless you are waiting for the 2013 Transformer Pad Infinity (10", Tegra 4, 2560x1600) that will be a $400-500 2013 release tablet. Asus fixed the slow memory and the WIFI/GPS connection issues that plagued that tablet. The screen is bright and at the levels that only the Prime was doing 1.5 years ago and at a higher resolution.

Heh, because I know I won't want to return it, lol.
Anyway, nah, I'm not holding out for a new Transformer series tablet, or anything, but since I paid $400-500 for my Prime, I wanted to be strict with myself and say "Okay, keep this tablet for the next 3-4 years at least". But I'm so weak and constantly tempted by new gadgets! @[email protected] lol
While basically they perform the same functions, they each have their own niche to fill. With that said buy the 7 if you find it doesn't do anything that your other one does besides weigh less and offer a smaller viewing experience then return it/sell it. If you find you like using it more, sell the prime.

Yeah, for a while I thought the 7 inch form factor was dumb. Then the original nexus 7 came out and I thought, what the heck, I'll try it for that price. Ended up loving it and using it as my daily driver for both work and home.
I've owned only 10 inchers previously....archos 101 back in 2010, og transformer, even an iPad 3 that work gave me. The n7 form factor meant I could tote it around much more easily, even put it in a slacks pocket in a pinch. The new one is even better because of its thinness, not to mention the screen.
The back camera is great too...people say it's silly but I use it at work all the time....to scan paper people hand me in meetings (I don't print crap any more...hardly even bring a pen to a meeting) or to snap a pic of a whiteboard.

I bought the Transformer Infinity with the keyboard before. I used it for a few months and sold it through craigslist. End up I bought an ASUS X202E for productivity. The Transformer Infinity really disappointed me. I/O issue, quality issue, FW issue, etc.
Providing that the Transformer Infinity is very close to the vanilla Android, I would rather get a Nexus so that I can have fast update. I also feel a 10.1" tablet is a bit burden for me. End up buying the new Nexus 7 now. I am extremely happy with that.
In my own opinion, Android tablet doesn't really need a keyboard. If I am not getting a keyboard, I will not get the Transformer series.
