Android device manager not finding phone - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

When I look under the Android device manager in the play store it shows 2 devices ( last week my original s4 was replaced). That original s4 shows a registered date (when I got it) and a last used date (the day I got the new s4). Now the new s4 only shows a registered date no last used. And when I try to locate my phone it wont find it. I'm also having issues with getting the mf3 update the check software says software update interrupted. As a side note I installed the google edition 4.3 rom 2 days ago the kangabean and it was doing the same but I went back to stock yestersay. So its either the phone or my account.

If your Android device doesn't appear in Android Device Manager, or if you see Unknown location despite your device being online and running Google Play services version 3.2.25 or higher, follow these steps:
Open Google Settings from your device's apps menu.
Touch Android Device Manager.
Uncheck Allow remote factory reset.
Go to your device's main Settings menu, then touch Apps > All < Google Play services.
Touch Clear Data. Note that this action doesn't remove personal data.
Go back to Google Settings and select Allow remote factory reset.
Restart your device.
you might have to unselect remote factory reset to clear data in Google play services. After clear data the go back in select it again, reboot you should be good to go. if i have helped please say thanks

Worked like a charm, thank you!!
Works great! I was on the webpage where it said "device not found" and as soon as I restarted after following your steps the page refreshed and voilà!, there it was! Thanks Willibda1!!
Cheers,
Matthew

Um, since you installed a Google Edition rom and a Kangabean rom, I assume you intend to continue trying new roms in the future. If this is the case, do not install the MF3 update. It will break the Loki exploit, making it impossible for you to ever flash a rom again.

I had to turn off wifi and let it find me once. Then all was well.

i have one question and don't want to open another thred...
monday I bought a new S4 from a non carrier supplier. I hooked everything up and in ADM on the web site I notice that the first registers date is 27 August for this device... How is this possible? Should I suspect a phone that's not new and it has been used before? How it registers, through IMEI?
Please advise.
Thanks.

Worked perfect

I tried everything mentionned in this tread and even more...
I finaly found a solution that worked for me... I hope it will help you!
1. Go in your Google Play account on your computer https://play.google.com/settings and be sure that this is checked (VISIBILITY "Show in menus")
2. On your device, open "Device Manager" apps, if you don't have it just download it. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.google.android.apps.adm
3. Open the app and log in. You should see your device.
4. Go on your device web browser and navigate to this web page. android.com/devicemanager and log in with your credential.
Now, you should be able to see and manage your device from the devicemanager website on your computer. https://www.google.com/android/devicemanager?u=0.

I have now tried everything on this page. Still no luck. My phone (S3, 4.4.2, ktoonsez kernel) refuses to show up. I have no issue with my Note 10. Both of them show up on the device list in the play store. Ugh!

Solution found. The step that says to hit Clear Data in applications is not correct. What you actually need to do is:
- Press Manage Storage
- Scroll to the bottom and hit Clear all data.
Then it worked! Woohoo!

Please Help, Messed Up

Hey guys, I've pretty tech savvy but new to playing with smartphones.
I have the Titanium backup and I removed some bloatware. (Bell Galaxy S 2.1, rooted, unlocked on Telus) I made out OK but stupid me never did a backup first.
Everything was fine until I removed Google Talk and I don't remember the other one below it. (I think it was goolge talk storage or something like that)
No when I boot the phone up I get Error com.google.process.gupps closed. And I can't download from the market. Everything else is fine afaik
Can someone help walk me through this?
A google search ?
https://wiki.ousli.org/index.php/Vo....google.process.gapps_has_stoped_unexpectedly
Thanks for the help but on my phone I don't have that option. Where do I find the place to clear it on my phone?
Wich one you don't have ? Try clearing all google stuff
There are no options on my phone that I can find for clearing anything google. I know how to clear the browser stuff but can't find anything else to clear google things. I found where I can sync my google contacts, gmail & calendar but not clear it. There's an option to remove the google account and I tried it but it says I can't delete the account because it's used by the phone and I'd have to do a factory reset.
Press your device's < Home > button, then press < Application >.
Select Settings and then Applications.
Select Manage applications.
Maybe All tab
Select Gmail Storage and then select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
Return to the list of applications by pressing the < Back > key.
Select Gmail and then select Clear data. Answer OK when prompted.
Restart your device (Press and hold the < End call > button, then select Power off. Press < End call > to power on).
I found and cleared google service. that fixxed the error on boot up.
But the market still wont download and angry birds beta stopped working at the same time this happened

And try to re-install angry
Thanks for the link. I am just a bit scared to install it because it says it gets rid of the radio. My market worked fine before I deleted Gtalk and Gservice.
Is there another way?
OK so just to clarify, everything on the phone worked fine before I uninstall Gtalk and Gtalk Services (I think that's what it was, it was right below Gtalk)
Can I put the Gtalk and Services back on to fix it? (If so where do I find it online? Maybe someone has a dump?)
I don't know how to install the marketfix without the market either, it just sends me to the market no matter what I do.

Sorry I should have told you I tried all the methods on that page. I got the direct link emailed to my phone and it just opens up in the market.

Download on computer and transfer anywhere on you sd then use my files app to install it
Thank you, I will try that tonight.
I wanted to ask too, if I wait for the official Froyo update will that fix this problem too?
Well yes cause you will flash your phone with new fw
froyo is due 2 weeks away
not sure you want to wait for that long
The EXACT thing happened to me before. I did a google search and learned that Google Talk is in fact tied to using the Market.. I had to reflash my phone's firmware to get everything back.
I recently made a backup of all the default software of my SGS including Google Talk. So I have its apk and such.. I dunno exactly if you can install it from an APK..but yeah I have it. I'll upload it for you when I get home later.
I will just reflash the phone with original firmware if I can find it. Mine is the Bell version. Will the IMEI change if I reflash it with new firmware? Mine is I9000UGJH2 currently. No updates available through kies.

Anyone else having problems with Market?

I have a stock 10.1. When I try to open market it says client is out of date? Keeps saying it will update but never does? Any help?
You have to install a random apk to can go to My Apps.
There will be shown the Market Update under pending Installations.
I have a different problem with the Market. When I search the Market on my Tab, I often cannot find apps that I know are there. If I do the same search on my PC the apps show up.
Any idea why this is happening?
Have you an example?

Hello
There is solution: you have just to update manually Market 3.3.4
Can you post a step-by-step for us noobs?
Mine just updated itself when I went to the market one day, and it's full screen.
hello
Ou have to go to Google and tape android Mar et 3.4.4 . Apk download and install it
It's work very well for me
here you go:
multiupload/DC4KOTPPX0
complete with .com
download, transfer to tab, install..
Thanks got it working now.
Yuk, that's horrible. I now have Market 3.4.4 installed, which starts showing a bunch of large block adverts for apps. I much prefer the old TopPaid / TopFree / TopNew/ etc interface that was on Market bedore, how do I get back to that?
I tried 'uninstall updates' in the Applications menu, but although it said it would revert to the factory installed version of the app, Market has now vanished completely from the tablet. I think I need to get 1.1.0 back, but when I check the website version of market.android.com on my PC, it says it is already installed on my tablet and so won't let me do it again.
Andre
v3.4.4 did not work for me !! just kept cycling and finally said connection time out. However this is what worked
this is what worked for me..
install market version 3.3.12( yes, the one meant for phones)
>> it will say replace factory market
>> yes
>> install
>>once installed you should have two markets
>> select the one which u just installed
>>search for android market
>> and install the update meant for tab ie v 1.1.0
>> once completed
>> check in system> manage apps the version
>> if all is well and u have the updated version
>> go back to manage apps and open 3.3.12 version
>>uninstall updates of this> restore factory market>yes
>>unistall updates of 1.1.0 > restore factory market >yes
>>open the standard market and it should automatically update to the new version..
Been frust for a long time with market for not updating.. i know how u feel
As a matter of fact, I am facing some problems with market right now. Some programs simply won't update! I select the program in market, click update and even if there is a moving progress bar, the download most likely never starts. It's happening with my CM9 KANG 10.1 tab and also with my DrewGaren's ICY+ 4.0 Nexus S.
I'm willing to try the solution proposed by suttaroom on the Nexus S, but not sure about the P7500...

Reflash a stock rom, link https://dl.google.com/dl/android/aosp/occam-jdq39-factory-345dc199.tgz. Here is how you do it http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2010312.
As far as I searched, these are the solutions:
- check your phone date ("The SSL certificate contains a expiration date which would be compared against the system date of the Android system. If the system date is too far in the past or in the future, the validation would be failed, thus the connection cannot be established. This is a security measures of the HTTPS connection, so check your system date next time encountering such strange error message." as stated here)
- root and delete the file, as rabbit140 said
- do a factory reset
I've also found:
1. Open Settings.
2. Select Applications.
3. Select Manage Applications.
4. Tap the All tab, then scroll down and select Google Play Store.
5. Select Clear cache.
6. Back out of the screen and select Download Manager (May also be listed as “Downloads”).
7. Select Clear data.
8. Also clear data for Google Services Framework, Google Apps, Google Talk, and Checkin Service. Some users are reporting they had to clear data for the Browser app as well. You may not see all of these apps listed on your particular phone.
-------------------------------------------------------OR----------------------------------------------------
1) Remove sim card.
2) Go to settings->applications and clear everything (not just google apps)one by one.
3) Reboot the device
4) And add your google account.
Dunno if this can help.
Remove Sim card and go to backup and reset and do a factory data reset.
Than put your Sim card back in once you boot back up.

hi everyone. i have rooted using CF Root for my SM G900F
installed alliance rom fine using philz touch recovery( am now on PAC MAN ROM so i know this issue isnt ROM specific)
i am unable to install any apps via playstore or pushing to phone from online store. getting error message:

driving me crazy. have cleared data and cache from play store and google services, removed google account, rebooted, added account.
still same error message, any ideas. phone is pretty unusable without apps. gmail works, play books works, just not able to add apps.
have done all work arounds possible but no joy.
i have been able to restore apps from a titanium backup but paid versions dont register as paid and i cant update any apps
very frustrating
does anyone have any ideas before i log a support call with the google boffins?
The usual answer is to update your Google play store app. And failing that, wipe the cache, reboot and then recreate the Google account. You didn't say whether you have the latest play store app version.
Did you try resolving the issue exactly as follows?
RPC:AEC:0 error (CPU/RAM/Device/Identity failure)
First ensure that you are using the latest version of the Google Play Store app.
If the problem persists, then:
Go to settings > application > Play Store > clear data & clear cache
Go to accounts > Google > remove account
Reboot to recovery mode > wipe system cache
Reboot phone normally
Settings > account > Google > log in.
.

yes, had a support call with google this morning. they escalated the support ticket and emailed me stupid fixes that i already told them dont work.
its a google server issue for sure
i have managed to install a titanium backup of most of my apps but the paid ones dont register as being paid and i cant update anything at the moment.
Account issue
It appears that this is an account issue. I am having the same problem on multiple devices with my Google Apps account, but my gmail account is working just fine on those devices.
Google is evidently aware of it, and its gotten a little press on Android Police. Whatever you do, don't listen to what people are saying and factory reset the device. IT doesn't help, and all it winds up doing is removing access to all of your paid / no paid apps.
A small discussion has sprung up on the Google Wallet forum here.
Definitely a play server issue. I have the same error code started about 2 days ago. It's on my s4, nexus 7 and tf201. If I log on with a different account then there is no problem. If you log in through windows to the play store then you will also not be able to see your purchased apps. I'll give them a call tomorrow if it hasn't resolved itself.
I am in the same boat. When cache clean, removing and adding account didn't help I tried factory reset. Didn't help. Rooted and went to CM. Still nothing. At that point reached Google and was told they will get back as it looks like a known issue. Not a single app on my phone right now as nothing is restored from play store. It's very annoying. Have this issue on my Nexus 4 and 7. Although I did all this on 4 only.

I just wanted to let everyone know what my fix ended up being after days of troubleshooting....
I went to my PC and went to google and looked up the Google play device manager, when on this site I chose my device and allowed it to find my device on Google maps after finding it I pressed the ring my device button and also the lock screen button and changed my password... When I did this I was then able to download stuff again....
I spoke with Google about this also and they said this error is caused when your device is not synchronized with the Google servers and what needs to be done is your device needs to be reconnected to the server, so other fixes are removing your account, uninstalling google play store updates and clearing cache, clearing cache for Google play store and restarting your device, then readding your account and attempting to download again.... Google will recommend you format your phone but I recommend not doing this cause you will lose all your apps and not be able to download them ... it did not fix my issue, I tried all of these and the first I mentioned worked for me after 5 days of issues...
Good luck all,
Moveit124
hi, i tried everything from above and did not work. After some more research it worked like this:
1 - . On your Android device , we go to Settings
2 - . Then Applications, and inside we go to the All tab
. 3 - Here locate and click on Google Services Framework
. 4 - Once inside we delete the cache, then We delete the data and force stop.
. 5 - repeat these operations also advise with Google services with Google Play and Play Store
. 6 - After reboot phone and attempt to download / update an application and see if everything went well .

Non rooted can I disable OTA upgrade notification

Verizon, its driving me nuts. I also have no reason to root.
I think if you go to Settings > About Device > Software Updates and uncheck "Auto update" you shouldn't get a notification any more.

when I press system updates under settings the popup to install now or install later shows up.
I read somewhere that you can do it by going to settings - application manager - all - Google services framework and hitting disable, and you won't see it again until you reactivate.
Hope it works.

Same problem here.
Flashed KK firmware, everything fast, good, great.
I have disabled the OTA checkbox as soon as I could.
But the OTA still popped up, and it says it's now downloaded.
How could I fix this?
I don't want LP until it's fixed.

So I tried the following, WITHOUT LUCK:
- Install sim card, launch phone, DO NOT connect to wifi, disable update box.
Once wifi is on, it will download.
- Launch phone without SIM card, NO wifi, and disable box.
Well, guess what? It will just download once I add a wifi connection.
It looks like the phone will just do this at the first start.
But where is the update file? I seriously want to keep KitKat.
Let me know if anyone got an idea.
Hi,
I have the same problem, do you have found a solution ?
Thank you.
I think there is only one way to do this. You have to factory reset your device and during setup, where it asks you to sign in to your google accounts and connect to your samsung account, don't connect your samsung account.
I think that this is what notifies you about the OTA updates.
PS: I just remembered! Maybe you don't have to factory reset! You could try removing your Samsung account from your device's settings. Never tried it though so not sure if this will work (because when signing in you also agree to a user agreement, don't know if that has anything to do with it - you know the things nobody reads about but always agrees).
Pros:
No OTA updates.
Cons:
No backup and restore for your contacts, sms, emails, wallpapers, phone logs, priority senders (email addresses), spam addresses (email), spam filter (messages) and call rejection list.
No updates for ANY Samsung app or service including but not limited to S Voice, S Translator, etc.
Its really up to you, if you can find apps that could replace those services and stay with the previous versions of Samsung's apps (or find replacements for those too), then I don't see a reason why not to skip Samsung's Account Login.

I have posted a tutorial, an entire thread with steps detailed.
You CAN disable the OTA notification permanently, you do NOT need root. Just read my thread.

1) Yes, you have to wipe.
2) You can use "Super Backup" from Play Store to backup just about everything important. (For the rest, just copy every file/folder from phone.)
3) Contacting samsung... well, good luck with that!

Yes, you have to remove the sim card if it supports data connection (mobile data).
Ps.: I have also contacted Samsung to downgrade my S3 when it received the 4.4 update which made it lag.
They tripped knox first (lol), took in my phone to replace motherboard, then when I got it back, it had 4.4 again and they said "downgrade is not supported".
10/10.
good job Samsung
So I've reinit my phone with SIM inside (just to try), when selecting operator window appears I close it, I don't connect to Wifi, I don't add Google or Samsung account and when possible I disable mobile data. I uncheck auto update and OTA notification has not appear since reinit
Perhaps the problem is solved, I'm watching it
Oh sh** OTA is back
Edit : Do you have a Samsung account ? It seems OTA is back since I've added my Samsung account...
