What overclock are you running? What is considered safe? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

So, ever since installing arrrghhh's kernel on a stock deodexed rom I have been running my Razr M on the lulzactive governor @ 384 - 1728.
Device seems stable and not hot to the touch. Very snappy.
So, what are you running at?

Cyanogenmod 6.1 Overclocking?

I'm running CM 6.1 on my hero cdma and was wondering how to overclock it. I know I've seen forums on here about the same subject but the ones I've seen haven't helped at all. Can someone show me how to overclock mine past 528 mhz?
You're already OC'd to 691mhz if you are running CM6.1.

As far as I know, CM 6.1 already has an OC'd kernel.
If you want a different one thats better, stable, all around amazing go HERE and download Decad3nce's stable kernel (or whatever suits your needs) and flash it <--- I would do this
If you download Deca's mau5 themed rom or AOSP they both are OC'd with Deca's kernel.
Or you can get SetCPU from the Marketplace (or here) and it will overclock you're current kernal. It has different settings for power or performance. I didn't notice much of a difference and it gave me a couple problems on the power saving mode.

I think i will do that. Except I'm just confused by the instructions on that link. Could you try to clear that up for me?

All you do is flash it from recovery, as the instructions say.
is there a difference in performance/efficiency between CM 6.1+setCPU to overclock to 768mhz vs. using CM 6.1 with deca's modded 768mhz kernel?

AFAIK, the stock cm kernel will not oc to 768. That may have changed, but IMHO, deca's kernels are better. He's tweaked them to run smoother and more efficiently. Also, I would suggest the batt tweak instead of setcpu.

Im new to overclocking, I know what it basically is but. I just flash decas kernel from recovery and then what? Is it done? Also if it kills my battery how do I remove it?

Kernels

I was just wondering about the kernels for CM7, it seems like every other week pershoot comes out with a new kernel, what's the advantage of flashing the new kernels?

Battery life, performance and under the hood stuff mostly. Pershoot is UV'd really low so you'll get better battery life. It's smooth as butter too. Flippy's is just a monster.
So, we can flash a new kernel, when we already have a CM. I'm on CM7, can a flash a pershoot kernel still? Would I have to wipe data, and re-flash CM7, then the kernel?
Just dalvik and cache if anything. You'll be safe with Pershoot's kernel if you're running anything that came out after nightly #31. I'm not sure about the G2 Fast kernel but it might be the same way. That's when the new gpu drivers came out.
Ok, that sounds good, better battery life is always worth it.

Honestly i have found that Flippys kernel includes the powersave governor, using that with a screen off profile in set cpu is a HUGE battery saver, as long as when the screen is on your not clocked too high cause then it defeats the purpose.. .. not to mention it includes the ability to well.. go fast..

[Q] What are the risk of overlock in SG3?

I Want make a overlock in my Sg3,but what are the risk?
-Greettings-
crashing more than usual is the main problem i think, lowered cpu life span, possible overheating that can cause more trouble in short-the risks are the same as when OC-ing a pc cpu. I just flashed kyrillos 4.1 OC and everything works fine, faster and smoother and my phone did not melt or caught fire. The clock was 1300MHz but i lowered it to 1066, just to make shure everything goes well.
I see in the market apps whos: cpu master. It is ok to do a overlock?

it won't work without a custom kernel. U need to flash a new rom, Kyrillos and Apocalypse have OC versions but Apocalypse is still in beta version. Once u do that u can overclock, i'd recomend setcpu - if rom developers are recomending it than it has to be good,
You need a kernel with built-in ext4 capability. The custom ROMs mostly have one. If you are running a stock kernel, you must install one, e.g. from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=978823

Yes it happened to me also....went back to fugumod 2.2.
I think for some people ,the lags where gone by setting min freq to 166Mhz and governor to ondemand ...you could try this
ty will try it now
EDIT:Worked fine
I am on indroid 4.3 with fugmod 2.4 beta3 standard non oc version. Believe me, It is totally stable and i haven't even changed any setting in set cpu.
Apparently there is a bug in the conservative CPU governor. You need to use something other than that and it should be good. I switched it to ondemand and it works good.

using franco kernel vs overclocking

Would you guys recommend overclocking your nexus 7 or just installing the franco kernel instead for smooth programs?
I tried overclocking. Its gone unstable every single time. I tried running mkernel at 1.6 and it just locked up, got hot and would not boot till it cooled down.
