My Q now works as a chromecast device. Happening to any one else?

This is awesome news! When you using Play Music All Access do the LED lights work like they used to?

Does it show up in the Chromecast app? Can you stream Netflix to it? Can you stream to it from your Chrome browser? Or is it just the old streaming functionality that's been in the Google apps since the Q was released? It's possible Google pushed app updates to the Q, but I'm not holding my breath just yet until I see more proof.

this would make sense, but it did play audio and video. the thing that does make me think this might be the case is that it only worked on my nexus 10, which is my only device running 4.3. i didnt work in chrome or on my s4 running CM 10.1
i didnt notice the LED and it didnt appear in the chromecast app

Video as in from YouTube? The YouTube app still has Nexus Q support.

Can you explain how you are doing this I have the q and the nexus 4 and new n7 and neither are showing any option to play to it. The

yesterday when I was using play music it appeared (as well as my bluetooth headphones) as an option for the device to chromecast to. i know it was supported in youtube, but it hadnt shown up as an option there before either.
the appearance of my bluetooth headphones makes me wonder if thats how it's being supported? i hadnt seen either before last night

Do you have a chromecast as well? I didnt see the little tv icon, or arrow did it show on yours?

Bluetooth devices show up google play music all access with the same cast button as the chromecast. I've tested this with a Jawbone Jambox and my Ford Sync stereo. *IF* the nexus Q was showing up, I would guess it wasn't showing up as a bluetooth device, it was never designed to stream that content via bluetooth but to access the cloud like chromecast over wifi. Do you have a screenshot of google play music that you can share with us?

Has someone tried this in their Q yet?

My Q shows up as an available device under the bluetooth on my s3 but when i try to pair it, it says its unavailable to communicate with it. my Q does work with YouTube still. any ideas?

Passkey
My Nexus 7 attempts to pair via Bluetooth, but asks to verify the device is displaying a unique passkey. I don't have a display connected to the Q.

Bluetooth File Transfer

So I just wanted to drop a line and let you all know that Bluetooth File Transfer from the play store works great for transferring files from your phone/tablet to the Ouya. Just pair your phone with the Ouya and you will be able to push files to the ouya.
I used this to push repo files for use with xbmc. I have several paid services that are not included in the xbmc wizard install. Now all my add ons are installed and I am a happy man.
Hope this helps some other lazy person who didn't want to side load files

I was trying this (for other reasons) and my phone (Galaxy S4 with the newest CM) would not pair with the OUYA. They saw each other even gave me the pair dialog to match the numbers, but wouldn't actually pair. I don't know if others are having the same problem
I am using an S4 with the Google Edition ROM. Pairs fine at least for the file sharing purpose.

Perhaps you can check a2dp with ouya ?
I've opened a thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2343608 but people seem not to use Bluetooth for audio.
Can you tell me if after having paired your S4 with ouya you can send audio to it via Bluetooth ? Is it played back on speakers connected through hdmi?

Wow sounds like you need a video converter box that will give you audio seperate from video. You can't use bluetooth speakers. I tried that to get better audio. The only other thing you could try is a speaker plugged into the headphone jack.

Yeah i wanted better sound so I tried using a bluetooth speaker but it didn't work.
Oh btw you have no audio outputs in your tv? Not sure what soneone would be thinking to make a tv with no speakers and hdmi as well.
I have this problem too. I need to play my sound through Bluetooth speakers but Miracast will not allow me to do so. Interestingly, my Sony Xperia Z was an exception. It allowed me to play into Miracast and Bluetooth speakers at the same time, so I am convinced that it is a software implementation issue. Unfortunately, the Sony Z will disconnect me from wifi internet whenever Miracast is working.

SORRY, I spoke too soon... Sony Xperia Z (Android 4.3) does NOT allow the Bluetooth speakers to work together with Miracast either, although it DID work before. Whatever it is, in all summary, Miracast does NOT work with Bluetooth speakers! (or 3.5mm audio headset)
The sound is being sent to the tv as it is supposed to be. You need to pull the audio from there.

I"m just now learning about miracast, could those of you who use it explain it a little?
If I understand it correctly, even if your tv doesn't have any built in ability I can buy a dongle and make it work?
Also, this will allow me to play videos from my tablet SD card to the tv, not just stream vids like chromecast?

I thought Chromecast only let you stream Netflix and YouTube or other online movies. So you're saying the allcast app will work with Chromecast and allow me to watch movies saved on SD card?
Looks like I'm going to try the all cast/ chrome cast route next. I tried a slimport dongle from amazon, saw my screen for a second. Next tried a netgear miracast ptv3000, could only connect for a couple seconds and then lost the connection. Why is something that should be so simple so flipping difficult?

Some miracasts work with some tvs , same with slimport. Kinda a crap shoot . wish I didn't have to get them online and wait for mail to see if they work. Lol. Not many stores have them. Best buy has one sad little google display with n7 2013 n5 and chromecast.. . that's it. Ha
The chromecast/allcast app combo is working perfectly. Setting up the chromecast was easy, way easier than the netgear setup. My n7 connected right away and using the allcast app is very easy. I've been watching video for a solid hour now with no stutters or interruptions. For a total of $40 it's definitely worth it, thank you for the suggestion.

Cast screen option in display settings

Hey guys I just noticed yesterday in the display options is an option called cast screen. When pressing this option it says no devices found.
My question is with this option available does this mean I can mirror my tablet to my tv? And if so will chromecast support this or do I need a miracast adaptor?
I have the first nexus 7(2012) model on 4.4.2
Thanks in advance

Cast screen works perfectly between Nexus 5 or Nexus 7 and Sony 42W650A... Sometimes, the connection fails while casting but hey, it works
It is supposed to be Miracast. If you have a receiving device that supports it, it should work.
Cast screen isnt only for Chormecast, its for all Miracast devices. I have 2013 Smart Tv from Samsung and SGS4 i9505 with CM11 and still cant get it working. I managed it only one times, and I dont know how :crying: (I had in developer options turned on Wireless display certification, and then in Cast screen option have many more options, but i dont know working combination now)

It works on my Nexus 7 2013 to cast to my LG Smart TV 42LN575V....the screen is mirrored perfectly, in Miracast mode, not Chromecast, direct mirror of phone screen on TV.
Cast not working on Vivokat 4.4.2 (Incredible S)
My Incredible S with Vivokat 4.4.2 build #4 can't see my WiFi dongle (T516 from W2Corp). This dongle works with DLNA, Airplay and Miracast. The phone can't see my computer with Airplay server running as well. If I use any application such as iMediaShare or Streambels, Airplay works as it should, both to the computer and to my dongle. I am not fully aware of what Cast ought to support. Is it only Miracast or is it both Miracast, Chromecast and Airplay. Can anyone help clear this and have any good idea on how I get Cast to see my devices?

Just an fyi for anyone looking at this thread or the OP this is now available after the chromecast update yesterday
I didn't realise this was supposed to be working with the n7 2012, bit it worked for me this evening! Anyone else?
Chromecast Mirroring support didn't work for me on my Nexus 7 2012 that I upgraded to 4.4.4 last night. It does work on my Note 3 phone however and works well.
The google support page says that it has support for the Nexus 7 2013 version though. I don't know anyone that has one though to see if that is true.
The Wireless Display/Cast Screen under Display Settings is MiraCast only. I just tried it with my Chromecast and it doesn't work. You can only mirror your screen to Chromecast by using the latest Chromecast app.
On some devices, screen mirroring is disabled in the Chromecast app, but you can use this app here to enable it

Flashable Build Prop to enable Screen Mirroring ??

Wondering if someone has it to flash on my 6P so that I can Screen Mirror to my Samsung TV's with out needing Chrome Cast .. Thanks
Sent from my Nexus 6P using Tapatalk
You will need to tell us the type of samsung tv it is and what casting it uses natively. As in does it have a app built in that is for casting/mirroring
Without that information we can't really help you to be honest.
Isn't casting native on the nexus ? Settings , display, cast ?
If you want to enable miracast mirroring just add this line to your build.prop
persist.debug.wfd.enable=1

Doing the build.prop edit will most likely work for you. Miracast is more of a streaming protocol that most tvs (most samsung tvs) that have screen casting/mirroring built in, use. Your HTC had it by default but the n6p technically does not. But can be easily enabled via the aforementioned build.prop edit.
OK I did the Build.prop edit and now when I open Cast I now have Enable wireless Network which I checked it but still doesn't see the TV ..grrr
I even downloaded AllShare app by clockwork mod and it doesn't see the TV either...
But the kicker is that my wife's Note 3 has AllShare / Mirroring built into it and it doesn't see the TV either on the network..
Surely I don't need internet on the network for it to work ?
It's a att uverse router maybe I orta ditch it and hook up my Belkin gaming router n C if it's the att wireless router causing the issue...

Chromecast wont work

When I try and cast apps using Chromecast, my V20 will either say it cant connect or connects but doesnt cast anything. This has never been an issue using my other android devices. Anyone else having this issue? Ideas of what might be going on?
Hi there, I just tried it and it worked fine for me.
It works fine with all three of my devices. Try rebooting the Chromecast and rebooting the phone.

Off topic, but no. Chromecast is still Chromecast. The app for it (which itself was never called Chromecast, but rather Google Cast) was redesigned and renamed Google Home with the introduction of Google's Google Home device. The app is now there to serve any "Google" device they release.
On my Sony Android TV the app is called Google Cast that's built in and I can cast from my phone or tablet like you normally would with a Chromecast dongle. It seems Sony broke the ability to cast with a recent update to the TV, which is unfortunate because Sony updates are few and far between. I'll just invest in the new Chromecast and bypass the built in app all together. It isn't the phone after all.
I have the same problem. I rebooted the Chromecast receiver and my LG V20 and it doesnt cast, even to a Chromecast 2.0 device. I tried with my old Galaxy Note 4 and it works fine.
I wonder if this has something to do with Android 7.0 Nougat?
I have h990ds and chromecast 2.0 and everything works well ?

I just got my LG V20 and was having the same issue with Chromecast. One day it would work and then the next not. I found it only works if I have my wifi on my LG set to the 2.4mgz. It will not cast if logged on to the 5mgz. I assume most of us now have dual modems. When in my office my phone goes on the 5mgz. So have to change it to 2.4 to cast. has been working every time so far.
Works like a charm for me, both in ChromeCast and Nexus Player.
I have 3 Chromecast, and 3 Chromecast audio, some on 2.4GHZ, some on 5GHZ and they all work fine using my v20 no matter if it's connected to 2.4GHZ or 5GHZ.

Not an issue with Android 7+. Works perfectly for me and many others. If you're still having trouble try some of the troubleshooting steps mentioned above, like rebooting your v20 and rebooting your ChromeCast. You could first try turning your WiFi on & off, as cycling your data connection often helps with connectivity issues (Either WiFi or carrier, depending on the situation. Though obviously it's Wifi in this scenario)
