I9595G stock rooted 4.3? - Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi
I've been lurking for the past few days looking for a simple answer to this question, but all the i9505 vs i9505g compatability stuff makes it very confusing. I'll just ask and apologize if it's common knowledge already.
Is there/will there be a pre-rooted, stock 4.3 official rom zip flashable in CWM that I can flash on top of my i9505g 4.2.2 official ROM without wiping data?
EDIT: If not, what's the simplest way to flash 4.3 on my rooted stock 4.2.2 i9505g
ALSO I should have posted this in the Q&A section. Doh!
Thanks

1. I do not believe that CWM currently supports the I9505G yet due to the differing partitions from the I9505-- only TWRP supports the I9505G at this time although it is not even needed to flash to 4.3 Here is the TWRP install page. GooManager works well.
2. Will there be a pre-rooted flashable 4.3? Probably. When? No idea. You can flash this OTA update through stock recovery and it should update you without losing your data (as long as your current 4.2.2 is unmodified. You can then root 4.3 while keeping stock recovery following these instructions. Or the easier method, if you don't mind installing a custom recovery (TWRP) is to do this.
3. Yes, it was probably better to post in Q&A.

4.2.2 mf3 recovery??

Hey guys,
I have been doing alot of research but cannot seem to come up with anything. I have a i-337. 4.2.2 mf3 firmware. I have seen the safestrap recovery but did not want to use safestrap. Is there any other custom recovery that I can use to flash a custom rom? Thanks for the help.

Thats what I figured. Everything I read is from september, so I was just trying to get the latest word. Is 4.3 out for us I-337 users? And if so, Can someone point me in the direction of the tar file to install using ODIN, if that's possible yet? Thanks a bunch.

No Odin tar for 4.3 yet, but search through the 4.3 thread in the General forum and you'll find links and instructions buried in there on sideloading 4.3 via ADB, (if you don't simply want to wait for the OTA). Note that you must have a pretty clean stock phone to get it to work. If you want root, I would suggest rooting MF3 first, then enabling survival mode in SuperSU Pro, as that's the safest way to get root on 4.3. One more thing: no custom ROMs, recovery, anything is available on 4.3, just root.

Try new firmware on S4 without rooting possible?

Hi All,
Am using an i337M S4 from Rogers here in Canada and was wondering if it was possible to use ODIN and try out the new leaked 4.4 firmware. Is rooting required to achieve this?

First you must be certain the leak is for i337m model becuase there is the international version and the US version which are both different from the model you have (I have the same but Telus). Now as far as the files, if they are in .tar format then you can flash via Odin, if thet are .zip then you need a custom recovery to flash them. I know for certain you need to root to go the custom recovery route, I think you need to be rooted to flash they system files in Odin also (which if it is a stock rom you are flashing would loose root following the flash). Depending of the root method you choose be aware also that you may trip the Knox counter also, definately if you install a custom recovery. There a number of 4.4 roms for the i337m already that are not stock and are rooted, you may want to look at these also. Most importantly... before you attempt anything read...read ... read... there are pity falls you can end up in if you don't pay close attention......

Thanks for the reply .. actually I had a S2 before which was rooted and I used many different ROMs on it. I did root the S4 once as well but then lost it when I did the 4.3 update. Since then I never tried to re-root, is there an easy way too root right now for the i337M with 4.3?
If you are on stock unrooted 4.3 you should get official 4.4 update soon.
Also, questions go in the qna section not the development section

If you wait for the update you will likely be waiting longer for a root solution... if you want to root the phone, look up chainfire's CF-auto root for i337m

[Q] A little behind on this but can I do 4.4 system update if I'm rooted?

I've been putting it off for a while. I'm flashed to cwm and still on TouchWiz. Is there a particular method to doing this system update? I want to get on kitkat and keep my root, or at least be able to get root access again afterwards.
Goes look in development section. .unknown has a stock rooted...random has a stock unrooted that's easy to root

I don't know what this means, in particular. Can you link me to something? I ran cyanogenmod up to 11 when my s3 died and have been out of the community for a bit. I just want to put the OTA kitkat update onto my phone and then get root.

You can get on kitkat if you flash a kitkat rom or by odining stock NAE tar file (Please note that this will give you knox bootloader). If you visit Sacs Custom Rom 4.4.2 kitkat rom (link in my signature below). It will explain how to go from a previous version to his kitkat rom.
Basically, in a nutshell...you need to have the NAE modem (which is explained in the thread) and specific recoveries to use during flashing. Visit the thread to find out more

[Q] I need help updating my Sgh-i337 to kitkat

Hey Everyone,
I have a sgh-i337 running on 4.3. I live outside of the USA, AT&T and Samsung said therefore I wont be receiving the OTA update. My device is rooted i used kingoappa.
Can anyone help with an update/ custom rom please?
sgh-i337 rooted

Install a custom recovery (TWRP or CWM) then find a ROM compatible with your phone.

They're on i337, TWRP or CWM won't work on 4.3. They'll either need to root and use Safestrap and the ROMs from the index in the general section, or use ODIN to go to stock 4.4.

[Q] AT&T I337 MDL - Newest Firmware

Been trying to read and figure out as much as I can, but I'm lost. I rooted my phone right when I got it a few months after release. I have the MDL firmware and I'm running stock that I've modified to my liking. I rooted using motochopper, I have TB and SU and I have TWRP installed. I'm ready to take the jump and try to get an updated firmware, but don't know where to look. It seems a lot of the info in now for the newer firmwares.
I would like to run either Google edition or a modified TouchWiz I think. I like keeping things pretty clean and fast. I am currently running Aviate on top of TouchWiz and I like the clean organized feel of it, although a bit laggy.
Please help me XDA, sorry I know this is a newb post. I've been blocking the OTAs for over a year and I'm ready to move on.
First I would suggest NOT to use any STOCK firmware to update to 4.4.2
There are some newer Google Edition Roms I believe in the ATT original ANDROID SECTION. You can use them since you have twrp recovery. Those with newer firmware cannot use the latest google edition Roms unless they are made for safestrap.
Or if you want a modified stock Touchwiz with all the extra benefits you can flash directly to ShoStock-i 8.1 which is 4.4.2 based.
Keeping you MDL bootloader and the Loki bootloader bypass you have now let's you flash ANYTHING you want, including kernels.
If you update firmwares the bootloader becomes MORE LOCKED DOWN and you cannot flash any Roms that need a modified kernel like aosp based Roms, or any kernel other than stock.
Thank you ill check those roms out. I am aware that I DO NOT want to update my firmware, that's part of the reason I asked for advice, to see which roms work well with MDL. Most of what I found was all for newer FW versions.

Would I be better off upgrading to OUDHS Touch CWM-based Recovery 1.0.3.5 instead of TWRP so everything is auto Loki'd?

Sorry I haven't tried OUDHS so I cannot comment. But TWRP still works perfectly. For ShoStock you would NOT need to flash Loki-Doki patch or anything. The kernel in ShoStock-i is already Loki patched. If you plan on trying other Roms it is always best to keep the Loki-Doki flashable zip on your sdcard and flash it after flashing a ROM. Just extra insurance that won't hurt anything if the ROM is already lokified.
Ok going to try flashing this

Followed by Loki Doki
Hope I'm doing this right.
