[Q] Interface stopped working properly (Android 4.3) - Nexus 10 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I just recently re-flashed Android 4.3 onto my Nexus 10, rooted it, then used TitaniumBackup to restore all my app data. Now I've rebooted and parts of the interface won't load / won't work.
The Home button doesn't work anymore, only the back and task-switcher buttons are working.
In the top toolbar, I can slide down the notifications, but none are displayed. The Alarm, Wifi, Battery, and Time is displayed in the top-right like normal, But I can't slide down the quick-settings.
Also, When I long-press the power button, I'm only given the option to Power off, nothing else.
One more thing: The lock-screen isn't ever shown!
Is there an easy way I can fix this? I'm guessing it has something to do with wiping the data & cache of some app, but I don't know which one.

Did you also restore all of your system app data? In general, that would be a big nono (and you could use Titanium's filters to clear data only from system apps). Not a great situation though either way.

OK. I thought I did filter out the system apps. I might have missed something. I'll try and clear the data from the system apps and see if that helps any. I'll just write this as I go...
I've opened TitaniumBackup, and it said that my Android ID had changed?
I told it to use the old ID... And now it's rebooting...
Now I've wiped the system-app data and am rebooting...
Didn't help any. Same problem still.

Update
Update:
I've given up and just did a factory reset last night. Now I'm restoring my adb backup. ('Cause for some reason my TitaniumBackup in Google Drive got erased!?) Oh well. Anyways, things seem to be working properly now.

Ghost Widget on Home Screen

I have a widget on one of my home screens that I cannot see, but it is taking up space. There is nothing (*nothing*) displayed. When I add a widget it automatically places it on the top of the home screen. I am unable to tap-hold on the invisible widget and drag it to the trash. Once I fill up the space on the top portion of the screen I receive "No room on this home screen" as an error when trying to add any additional widgets. I have tried clearing cache, wiping & formatting via xRecovery. I have also cleared the Davlik cache (not thinking that would do anything, but what the hell).
Google produces no results...with information.
I have scoured the /etc & /system/etc folders searching for some kind of .conf file and even searched my sdcard for any kind of data. I have zapped all files/folders named "cache".
The widget was Latitude's widget, but I have even uninstalled all updates to "Maps" and cleared the data for that program.
Any suggestions/assistance would be greatly appreciated (short of "reload your phone").
X10i 2.2 with CM 6.1.3 V054
Have you cleared dalvik-cache from xrecovery? If not, try that. Also, what launcher are you using? If its 3rd party, try uninstalling and reinstalling. Don't remove your only launcher, though.
i hae that prob with stock fw, when pressing home button every widget on that page is gone I have to move to another page to get them back :s
I had this problem with Arc homescreen on 2.1
just change your homescreen from current to another one via home switcher.
it will be fine
I had an invisible widget aswell...can't remember which one, but i managed to delete it. All this happened accidently when i was swiching through my homescreens and saw a movement..i then started tap-holding quite a few times on the screen till i was finally able to grab it and delete it....
go to settings--->applications--->manage applications
then go to your home launcher application, click clear data and clear cache if available.
can't find it :S
doesn't really bother me but still annoying when happens

home button and Google now shortcut not working!

Hi guys ,
I am using a rooted stock ROM on my nexus 7 and was watching YouTube when all of a sudden movie kept playing the same frames for a while, while audio was plsying fine and then all of a sudden the tablet rebooted. After reboot all of my third party keyboards got disabled in the settings by their own. Anyway, my problem is that after reboot home button is not working! And when I swipe up also the Google now shortcut is not working ! Nothing happens.
The back and recent apps are working fine right now.
I tried rebooting again but that also didn't help!
Anyone has any ideas ?
Looks like the ROM is booting on kind of safe mode.
I mean when I hold the power button there is only one option and it's power off.
I tried power off and on again but that didn't help!
Also the settings shortcut in the notification menu is not working! But the display rotation toggle is working.
Developer options were disabled, unknown sources for apps were disabled!
Did any of you had this problem before?
I also tried clearing the settings app data, cleared the cache and Dalvik cache from recovery!
These things didn't help!
I would at least back out the rooted Rom and verify that the way the device was intended to work still works. From there, see if there's any updates about using that Rom on the nexus 7.
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The thing I don't want to wipe my data and restore everything again! I just installed button savior the home button in that app seems to work.
I think I need to clear data on some system apps part to re-initialize some settings again!

Home button screwing up

I am running cm10, and my home button (hard or soft) does not work. the screen just turns blank then goes back to the app i was on. sliding the home button up to get to GNow doesn't work either. this happens with every app and nightly version i use since 11/19. i have reflashed, cleared caches, etc. and found that the error was in my data partition- and more specifically, one of my apps. here is a link to my logcat when i pressed the soft home button:
http://pastebin.com/udGmNByF
and here is the list of all the folders in my /data/app folder:
http://pastebin.com/ZugMN6k1
If you need anything else, just ask. Thanks!

I would guess that one of your installed apps has captured your home button then is crashing when it tries to use it. To find out which one it is, temporarily install a third party launcher like zeam or adw and the next time you press the home button a list of eligible apps that can use the home button pops up. Your bad app is probably on that list. Chose the new launcher, make it default and see if your problem goes away.

That didn't work, it just turned black again. Would only an app with su permissions be able to do this, or any app at all?
By "do this", I mean screw up the home button. Also, I wiped the data, and it worked fine, but after I installed all of my apps, it stopped working again. Also, I am running some other apps that aren't from the Play Store (well they are, but the apk's were downloaded from another source). Would those external apps be the culprit?

They do not need su access to capture the home button. When you say reinstall, do you mean reinstall, or do you mean restore with a backup program. The latter usually restores the app's data with it and recreates your problem.

I mean reinstall, like from the play store, but it did it automagically when i logged into google play, i didn't need to go to each app and install it.
Would the external apps be a problem?
Also, I know that in the Manualnooter for the stock OS there is an app called "Homecatcher". would that help at all?
Okay- I looked through the logcat and guessed what the issue was- lock screen was disabled.
I re-enabled it through the notification bar, and home button is fine. Any reason why this might be? And how would I make it so that I can disable the lockscreen again?

Dont let play store install them all at once. Back them up with TB and reinstall them one by one until your problem re-occurs. And do it without the data. Don't know about homecatcher. That is for stock.
Okay, I've narrowed theproblem down more. If the NC boots with the lock screen enabled, you are fine, even if you disable it. But if it boots with the lock screen disabled, then the home button will not work until you re-enable it and unlock the device. After you e-enable it, you can disable the lock screen again. Not anything major, but definitely an annoyance. Should I report this in the CM10 thread and ask them to fix it? Sorry if I sound like a big ******* taking their work for granted, but I don't have a 64-bit computer to build on. If I had one, I would prbly fix the problem myself. Oh well, thta's what Xmas is for. (A bit off topic from this thread, but is the Acer C7 Chromebook 64-bit? If it is then i would just hack ubuntu on it then build off of that.)

[Q] Noob Help (Kinda)

Ok So I'm Just Making An Account With XDA But I've Been Modifying My Phone For Almost 2 Months Now. Currently, I'm Running PAC-Man Rom 23.0.0 With Franco Kernel 3.4.0. Touch Control + Nexus Louder, Blah, Blah, Blah. Anyhow, I Might Be Posting This In The Wrong Forum But Bear With Me. The Other Day, My Phone Randomly Resetted And When It Came Back On, My Soft Keys Were Gone. Idk How To Get 'Em Back And I Don't Even Know Why They Disappeared. Help. I'm About To Throw My Phone Cuz I'm Pissed. I'm Forced To Use Both Pie Controls Which Makes It Hard To Use All My Apps. :crying:

PIE controls are not hard to use. It takes some time to get use to. Relax buddy.
There should an option in settings to diable PIE and bring back the soft keys. Perhaps you're on Expandable desktop mode. Try holding the power button until the reboot, power, and airplane options appear. If there is an option for Expandable desktop or something similar tick it. If you can't get it back from there, try finding the option in the settings menu.
+1 to you possibly being in expanded desktop mode. Long press power and disable it, things should work as normal again.

Thanks. Ok, I Tried That. It Was Always Disabled Though.
I Wouldn't Mind Just Using The Pie Controls Because I Prefer It To Soft Keys But Besides The LMT Pie I've Always Had On The Right Side Of My Screen, It Seems Whereever (Top, Left Or Bottom) I Put The Other Pie That Has The Soft Keys, It Interfers With My Usage Of Other Apps. "/ Like, Not Being Able To Press The Shift Key On My Keyboard.
I'm Thinking I Should Just Return To Stock And Root Again? But Would I Lose All My Pictures, Apps And Music?

Just back those up to your PC (literally copy and paste them somewhere) and you should be fine. You can do a backup in Titanium backup or Carbon to keep your apps and app data, which will also need to be backed up to your PC.

There's no need to go that far yet. First try doing a full wipe and reflashing the rom.

Thanks A Lot. It Worked. But Now, For Some Reason, My Kill All Apps Soft Key That Was Always On The Bottom Left Above The Nav Bar Is Gone. I Still Have The Kill All Soft Key In My Status Bar Though. Any Ideas?

Well you did full wipe so all of your ROM data will be gone. You'll have to reset the settings you had previously (including that softkey).

Notifications and other functionalities disappeared: nothing works to fix it

Hello everyone!
First, I'm sorry for my English. I'll try to do my best to be clear and not too painful to read.
I post here tonight because my Moto X XT1562 is very messy. It's totally buggy actually.
The WHAT:
Some functionalities just disappeared. Here is some:
- Notifications aren't displayed at all. The notification bar stay empty, even when I swipe it down. Notification sounds are OK however.
- The quick settings panel isn't displayed... When I swipe down the right side of the top bar, there is only the notification bar who appear (empty...) like if I swiped down the left side. Nothing happens neither with a Nova widget for example to launch the activity corresponding to the quick settings panel.
- The Home button and the Menu app button do not works. When I touch them, they respond (they are circled by a halo and the phone vibrate) but don't produce anything.
- Some entries are missing in Settings like the entry to configure the quick setting panel. Also, some entries are displayed but when I touch them nothing happens, like the "Users" entry. Moreover, in "Backup & Reset > Factory data Reset" the "Reset Phone" button stay grey (unavailable).
- The "Developers options" menu isn't available neither. In this case, I had a toast with something like: "Developers options are not available for this user". In my actual configuration (spoiler: aka after flashing a new ROM), I can't activate the developers options at all.
- Probably other things but I'm not sure it matter. Apps work great however, even if there are now some force close. And just to be clear: it's not a touch screen issue.
So my phone is still usable, but it's not handy at all. Specially the fact that I can't go on the Home screen with the home button or switch between opened apps with the app button.
The WHEN:
These is happens after I try to move data that were on the sdcard in the internal storage through the built in tool in the storage settings. In fact, my sdcard (used like "internal storage") was almost full and my true internal storage with some space. I knew all my sdcard data could not go on my internal storage, but I thought Android could deal with that and will only transfer a part of these data. BUMMER. Anyway, during the process the phone had reboot and then the mess happens: internal storage was overfull, sdcard still full too, duplicate data were on both, etc. And of course, the previous bugs came. I deleted data manually (primarily pictures) and used the phone a couple of days like this.
Just so you know and because I suspect an perm issue, I have to add that a couple days before this episode, I also tried to create a second android user through the Users setting. But nothing happens after the asked reboot. I didn't insist.
The WHAT-THE-****:
- First, I was suspecting that the last boot didn't work properly because the internal storage was full. So after I made some space on the device I rebooted: nothing.
- After I delete all my pictures on the sdcard, I launch the data migration process to give it a new chance to finish properly. It did, but... nothing.
- I tried to wipe dalvik cache and the regular cache through TWRP: nothing.
- Like I suspected a permission issue, I tried to "Fix Contexts" with TWRP. Nooooothing.
- Very confident, I tried a factory reset through the Android settings but it was unavailable. So I did it in the bootloader. But... NOTHING!
- Well, I decided to flash again my ROM (XDRom) but I chose the last build to upgrade it. Flashing a new ROM replace most of the files so that MUST work. Guess what? Nothing!!
- Desperate, I tried to flash/upgrade the squid kernel. But No-****ing-thing... :crying:
I have no idea how it's possible. So if someone has encountered something similar or knows how that can happen, please, tell me.
I'm using TWRP, Squid Kernel r19 and the ROM XDR 24.107-52-5 (Android 6.0.1). Right now, my phone isn't rooted but it was when it happened. I was also using Xposed with Gravitybox and XBlastTools.
Thanks to everybody!

If you're using XDrom you need to root it and use XDRsetup app that comes with it (you can also download it separately, link is in XDR'S thread). This will fix all your issues
Your phone is not provisioned. You can fix this by re-running the setup wizard activity using Activity Launcher.
I've been seeing this issue pop up on several Moto devices since last few months, even on my own device.
EDIT: XDROM thread mentions this on the thread clearly
Use XDR Setup app after first boot to provision the device (unlock UI, Developer's options, screen lock, etc.)

Well, thanks so much everybody. Sorry for my late answer. You're right, my phone wasn't "provisioned". I wasn't aware at all about this not-a-bug-but-a-feature. It sounds still strange for me and it's surprising that this "issue" appears by itself but whatever, it's fix. Thanks again!
