[Q] phone idle - battery draining ! - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Im Totally stuck and had my OTA to 4.3 and now i see alot of battery draining by different apps.. now Phone idle is totally eating my battery more than every thing else !! even if i put my phone on airplane mode it has its effect ! what should i do with it ?!

Expect ALOT a battery drain for day one with the OTA and then it will stop draining badly, it is restoring some data using Google Backup and such at the moment.

Froyo and battery life

Anyone noticing any changes with their battery life after the EC03 update? I feel like my battery is draining much faster now.
Under the battery use tab this is what I'm seeing now..
Display - 67-85%
Android system - 9%
Android OS - 8%
Cell standby - 4%
Phone idle - 1%
What is everyone else seeing? Maybe I'm just using it more now but I dont feel like I am.. =)
My battery is actually a little better

When in use I've noticed a slight bump in battery life, but when "locked/sleeping" I've noticed a big difference. On Eclair I would lose anywhere from 20-40% of battery and now it's more like 10%. Settings and apps are the same or similar AFAIK.
my battery life actually improved
All i did was lower the brightness to its lowest setting, lowered system volume, took for vibrating feedback when buttons are pressed, and i turn off mobile data when i know im not going to use it long periods of time.

my Battery life
My battery life is dramatically improved. I haven't bothered to look at stats, but I've not used my phone any less, and probably slightly more. Where my battery was lasting maybe 6 hours before, it's consistently at about 14-18% after 12 hours now. There is one way I've found to kill my battery, and that's running navigation. Other than that, it's much improved.
Here are the apps I AM running
bluetooth, GPS, Sync/auto update
tweetcaster
facebook
weatherbug
android central updates
Widget Locker
EasyTether
Lookout
ADWNotifier
Pageonce
and probably a couple of others in the background. I have a nasty habit of just hitting the home button, instead of backing out of apps like I should.
Yes I saw a huge drop on the battery drain, but only when mobile data was enabled. I'm thinking there is something wrong. Im using "batteryminder" and I get less battery with mobile data than i get running wifi. ??? any thots?
Do you have wifi set to always on, so that whenever you turn off your screen it doesn't have to waste battery switching back to 3g?
Sent from my SCH-I400 using xda premium
Okay so let me get this straight...
Enable wifi always on and 3g will only kick on when no wifi available?
I only see a big battery drain when 3g is enabled and wifi is off.
If I'm outside of wifi coverage though (which is most of my day) battery only lasts for 5 to 6 hours.
Disabling 3g bumps it up to 15 hours

I have noticed my battery life has improved after flashing stock EC07 over Joshkoss's ROM.

Battery problem

Hi folks....m using galaxy note...it's not rooted...the battery doesn't last long enough as it is claimed... is it something wrong with my phone or is this what they mean by long battery life... i text alot and during texting and playing gamea my phone gets warmed up and the battery lasts less than 3hours if i continue texting...my kernel version is [email protected]#2.....please help....

It sound like you have a faulty battery if it only lasts three hours, I think you would have to be gaming to flatten a good battery in that time.
John.
Mine is the same. If I'm browsing the web, using instagram, Facebook and receiving email my battery will go from full to empt in easily 3 to 4 hours.
Backup, factory reset, reinstall apps from market (try to install only the ones you use a lot at first), restore the data you need. If you're still seeing the same things happening, install a battery logger / system logger. Use this guide to see if there's a rogue app that's causing the trouble: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=937080
If it's still acting up and you cannot identify any unusual drain, I'd ask for a replacement.
After you get things sorted, you can use apps like Juice Defender from the Market to prolong your battery life even more.

thanks guys for the sincere contribution.... i hope your advices help me...
my top battery consuming activities are:
temple run
google play
msging
go launcher
and nothing else
gaming and browsing certainly make the battery drain almost visibly..
things above and beyond the above to try include..
1. reduce screen brightness
2. reduce frequency of or disable background updates by apps
3. no vibrate notifications
4. work more, play less!..lol
the battery life of the Note is great, unless you use it .. a battery monitor will allow you to see the battery drain over time..this will help when you address item #2 above.. if you accept default refresh times, and have lots of social apps your battery can die in 6-7 hrs without even using the Note at all!..
I really love when people give the tip to not use your phone as a battery saving tip

some hints for better battery life
Got mine the other day. First charge battery was fine. Second charge went down 7% in about 5-10 mins. Then it restarted :/ Came back on, down to 88%. Turned the phone off as was frustrating me as it restarted 3 times yesterday. But when I turned it back on I was at 83%?
Hasn't last me the day, it's on charge now. When it pops up telling me to charge it tells me to shut all apps and that using while charging may effect it charging. Is this correct? I didn't think it would have anything to do with it?
3 to the 4 hours continuous use is normal... Only if your phone is standby and then depletes in that time You should be worried. I recommend researching wakelocks in that case.
There are many variables that can atribute to batterylife depletion. Eliminate those first and you will have your answer.
I had best results on stunner version 19. To bad it has the death kernel (leaked ics)

I am facing a similar issue, facing a massive wakelock by PowerManagerService. It keeps the phone awake all the time?
Any suggestions?

Usually that wakelock is there cause you are charging, or have USB plugged in

Had the note for 2 days. It came with LA4 FW and updated via Samsung Apps for the latest FW.
Battery drain, that was none on LA4 became very strong!
Installed Better Battery Stats and discovered that the CPU was always running.
Factory reset solved it...

[Q] Android System Battery Draining Problem ...

i'm experiencing Android System excessive os battery drain on my GT-I9500 under Omega v14.1, it's eating up all my juice from two days ago, even my display isn't over 10%, Android System is taking 58% and sometimes more than that.
Please can somebody help with this serious problem ?
PS: my phone is new, and my battery isn't swollen ...
Install BetterBatteryStats which can be found here on xda, fully charge and then fully discharge your mobile using it as you normally would, then look at Kernel wakelocks to see if there are any processes draining your battery.

I was on .108 and battery seemed better.
For sure during night: with .108 i was using 1% in 8 hours idle with 3G, wifi and gps on, not it is 1% per hour when idle
For me battery seems to be better, and I don't suffer anymore for overheating...... In my z1 I can say that this is a GREAT update.....

Try any custom kernel for stock FW..
For me the battery drain became much better with .157, on .108 I had much more drain.
Didn't notice differences in .157, maybe longer battery endurance. Look at some of the dedicated threads, maybe you'll find something helpful there.
I updated to 157 using flashtool. Usually on 108 it hardly last till night. On 157 I got 30% left till midnight. Yeah.. I like the update

I noticed that my battery is draining faster these past two-three days. I never had battery problems, honestly. Last night my battery was out 3-4%, instead of last week when it was 0-1%...
I was thinking that maybe FB, Viber apps were the ones. Or maybe Skype... I should investigate...

with .133 battery was good, with .157 camera freeze and camera performance is fixed/improved but battery life is little less
I see no difference between .133 and .157 in case of battery drain
I experience huge battery drain on 157 compared to 108. Then I uninstalled Facebook and Messenger app and off vibration wherever unnecessary. Now the endurance is significantly better.

I notice battery drains generically faster on kitkat stock roms than JB...
anyway I prefer kitkat for everything else
It sucks since 4.3. It got worse in kitkat. I got it replaced with a new phone. It sucks too. Sucks sucks sucks. I have seen no phone got better with a new firmware so far.
I swear I used to get better than 1day6h with stamina switched on with .108
18h standby with stamina OFF..... is that normal?
Obviously something wrong, not recharged phone since that last comment, and its on 82% and now says 1 day 14h left.
watch this.
.157 rooted
My battery seemed to drain a little faster than my gf's Z1 which is the previous firmware to 157... But I installed greenify and with the right setup it is working very well for me. Look into it.

[Q] Terrible Battery Life

Hi guys, my glaxy s4 has terrible battery life. Like after 5 hours, i need to recharge my phone again. My phone is rooted and on CM 12 (UB ROM). I tried to remove facebook but no luck. How can i improve my battery life? I provided a sceenshot of my battery usage.
I appreciate your help. Thanks in advance

Are you sure? S4's battery is 2600 mAh. It should take about 15 hours or more to make the battery become low with minutes of gaming.. I have S3 mini and its battery is 1500 mAh and it takes about 12 hours or more to make the battery become low.
I can get 5 hours on 60 percent but I gotta be using battery saver with data off when I lock the acreen
take a look at this:

Gaming or watching movies will discharge your battery in a few hours. 4,5 or 6 hours max. Depending on what you're doing and other stuff like wifi and screen brightness.

Was the battery life always terrible or is it just now?
I'm having a similar problem so I'll use this thread instead of creating a new one. I hope you don't mind.
My battery is draining at a rate of 15% per hour even If I leave it on standby, ocasionally turning on the screen to get a message on Whatsapp of checking the time. It was 100% this morning, 1 and a half hours later, 74%.
After reading on the forums that the cause of the battery drain could be that the phone was constantly trying to get network signal (in cases where the signal is poor, like where I live), I decided to switch on airplane mode. To my surprise, in 3 minutes after this the phone was in 75%. 10 minutes later and I got a 76%. As I write (on PC) it is on 80%.
That's right. The phone started "recharging" without a cable (I know this is impossible, just describing what the display shows me) after I turned on airplane mode.
Any ideas about what might be going on and how can I solve this?
Thanks in advance!
P.S.: It's not the battery itself, as I've bought a brand-new, samsung original battery and the draining was still the same
EDIT: the battery started behaving like this only a few weeks ago. So I'd assume that the signal problem could be helping, but would not be the main reason on why my battery goes down so quickly.

You could try that and see if it is a rom problem.
Otherwise try to borrow a battery from somewhere just to be sure it isn't the battery.
