New Nexus 7: Can't watch YouTube in HD - Nexus 7 (2013) General

I can watch every YouTube video in standard definition or HQ, but the second a video requests HD video it won't load. Rather, it says there was an issue Touch to retry. I have a very fast Wi-Fi connection. Anyone have this issue?

Thanks a bunch for the link!
Are you using this as well? Is there any reason I need to do this, as in, why doesn't the stock application work?

After installing the mod there are certain number of YouTube videos I can't watch saying "Connection to server lost, touch to retry"

Google Movies on Rooted Xoom

If you rent a movie though the market on your Rooted Moto Xoom and try to play it in the Google movies app you will get an error 49 (rooted device not allowed).
But if you go to www.youtube.com in the browser and login you can then play your movie.
I have done this process on my Rooted WIFI Xoom with 3.2. (Desktop UA string). Just thought I would share...
This will only work if you are connected to a network. So if you can tether or if you have a Verizon Xoom you should be good to go mobile. Or you can always use WIFI.
How many movies did you try it with?

one so far I wanted to put it on here so others can try... I will try a few more movies this week.
Yeah nice tip.

Wait- so after logging into you YouTube you jump back into your Google Movies app and it works or.......?
Do you watch the movies on YouTube using the browser?
Watch movies on YouTube though the browser. Could of been more clear.

how smooth is the video? I kinda wish you could watch them offline but at least we can watch them

I only rented a SD movie in my first test I will try an HD soon the SD was very smooth.

Has anyone else tried this yet? What are your results?
just tried on my wifi xoom 3.1 with unlocked bootloader using the Bourne ultimatum (favorite movie) and it worked perfectly without a hitch.
this workaround will be useful until someone can figure out how to watch them in the movies app.

hmm... maybe if you did you tube sees the screen size in the browser and limits to 480...
im a newbie, so I apologize for the hand holding but can you please explain exactly how to view a Google video through the YouTube browser? I ordered a movie on Google videos and signed into YouTube, but where do I go from there? Thanks
if you type in"about:debug" (without quotes) in the browsers address bar you will get more settings. go to settings>debug>uastring and change it to desktop. then reload youtube and on the homepage there should be something like "don't forget to watch your movie" and that's it.

Stream to Apple Tv?

He's anyone successfully connected their N7 to Apple TV?? I've done some searching and tried a few suggested programs(media share, xbmc, play to) but none were successful.. a Search on Google Play brought up a couple pay for apps but without verification of hate to waste the $$$
TIA in advance

Ok I'll answer my own question lol...
I found a program on Google play that seems to work, it's played my music and videos plus can do YouTube and a few other apps (unfortunately Pandora it's not a choice) . Haven't been able to show photos from my N7 through the program yet but it's suppose to be capable..
The app is "Apple TV Media" and it's free, you just have to open a account with Zappo during the initial setup..

I use imediashare, you have just to connect nexus 7 and apple TV to same wifi connection and select any video for example YouTube video, than tipe send to, than you will see imediashare app and tap that, than the video will be shown to your Apple TV, this is the paid version of imediashare, with the lite version you have to select your videos through the app
This can be done with other media sharer

I have this app and tested on a friends ATV and it worked for you tube videos and local vids (amongst many other options) and this one can work with photos. If you have all your photos on Picasa like I do there is an option to stream from there.

Nexus 7 and HTC Media Link

Has any one been able to connect their N7 to the HTC Media Link HD with the Media Link software?
I see the media link in both adhoc and wifi mode, as soon as i enter the password and press OK it says "Unable to connect to selected HTC Media Link." I've tried the default 1234567890HTC password as well as changing the password.
Second question would be if its not possible is there an app like wi-fi media that supports the playing of mkv files?

1234567890HTC worked for me

so yes it worked
From a former HTC fanboy, I would recommend staying away from the media Link, its absolute garbage.

i was thinking about picking up the HTC media link HD, it seams to be the only way to get content from the N7 to your TV.... unless i'm missing something?

YouTube very choppy

Anyone else find that while playing YouTube videos it's a bit choppy? I tested multiple videos and they all seem to be very choppy.

Nope. Mine is smooth on both the YouTube app and browser
Yes same here..

No problem here on the open D802 version.
Only with HD enabled. Unfortunately. Alot of other users (german android-hilfe.de forum) also say that its choppy with HD enabled (D802).
Apparently, it was the same on previous LG Android phones.
Quad core, 2.3GHZ, 2GB RAM, and youtube plays choppy ? unbelievable...

Issue lies within the LG Software.
Does this happen on wifi too, or just on the celluar network? I have verizon and no issues so far.

Tmo here, no issues on 4g, LTE, or wi-fi.
Getting choppiness on HD here as well. I'm using the Youtube app. Does anyone know of any good third party Youtube apps?

Go search smarttube the only downside it doesn't bring up you subscription feed. I connected my YouTube account and add it to watch later and then go on smarttube and they have a section for YouTube watch later
The issue that I have is the quality of video isn't very good. Its not bad until you see text on the screen and its kinda pixelated. Smarttube looks better on HD or full HD. Then my YouTube app

I have also brought thus issue up in the Q&A forum before. The only solutions I have found so far is too uninstall updates of the YouTube app and use the old one instead, or use the mobile web version.

No lag for me on youtube vids at all so far, Bell version of LG G2, that being said i will keep an eye out for any oddities, since my youtube app just updated itself this morning.
No problem here. Have you tried uninstall and reinstall the app?

Cast screen to Chromecast

This popped up last night after listening to some music on my Chromecast. There was an option on my quick settings. I tried to connect but it fails. I wonder if Moto is working on this now that the SDK is out.

You've always been able to cast google play music to chromecast. Perhaps that's what it was asking, rather than actual screen mirroring. There is an option for screen mirroring elsewhere in the settings, but it doesn't so anything yet.
I just got the same thing on my nexus 5. I haven't used any media streaming for a few days and my chromecast wasn't even active. I have been trying to find out more but all I can find is the reports about Koush's Google+ post saying that he could do it and reports from December that code for it was in 4.4.1

Cast screen option from quick settings is completely different than casting specific app, inside said app.
