[Q] Rooting: CWM and SuperSu for Nexus 4 JB4.3 - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hello,
I have a stock Nexus 4 with Android 4.3, I was wondering if:
1. The latest SuperSu 1.51 is compatible with 4.3.
2. ClockWorkMod recovery 6.0.3.5 is compatible with 4.3; all the 4.3 rooting method I've been reading cite the TWRP not CWM.
Thanks!

You can flash TWRP 2.6 via Fastboot or Flashify and yes you can flash SuperSU 1.51 via TWRP or CWM Recovery.
In fact SuperSU 1.51 is supported with Android 4.3 fully with a fix for TB so you can restore apps.

Thanks! But can I flash CWM from fastboot? is v6.0.3.5 compatible with JB 4.3?

Anyone know a good root uninstaller for 4.3? The app stopped working.

Flash the latest version, the compatibility is NOTHING to do with the OS what so ever.

Root uninstaller still doesn't work.

It never used to work without stock recovery but I think CWM will allow you to install the OTA now.

How to update CWM

Hello! I rooted my phone and installed custom recovery using Mskip's toolkit. How can I update the CWM recovery? Can I install it using ROM manager and do I need to update there or just install a newer version?

You can update recovery from rom manager app. Touch version costs extra though. For manual flashing, all of the images are available for download on his site.

Getting a rom to flash

I finally got twrp to install on att after ota. The version is 2.6.3.0. I did it with the freegee app. I made a back up of my stock rom. I tried to flash Aeon rom but it will not boot. I flashed it twice like it says in the thread. I saw were some people were having issues getting it to boot. I cant get recovery to update to the newest version. I tried using flashify and also flashing in recovery. Will i be able to flash a rom on 2.6.3.0.

I can't upgrade twrp either. I think mine has something to do with my.OTA and root after. Tonight, after I find all the required files, I'm going to flash back to stock, pre-OTA and try again.

Would assume it's your recovery. You can't flash 2.6.3.3?

I've tried every which way to flash it. I have 2.3.6.0 from freegee. For whatever reason, I can't upgrade to anything other.

Every which way? There's really only one way lol.
Negative. Via freegee, flashify, from the pc, via twrp, that's more than one. I can't get it.to update twrp past 2.3.6.0....... I've been thru all the different options......

You said you couldn't get Intl recovery to update twrp. Download 2.6.3.3, go into recovery and flash that zip. It will update your twrp and you'll have no issues flashing 4.4 ROMs.
I don't suggest using 2.6.3.4 because people have reported issues with it.

If you can't just flash the 2.6.3.3 zip, then I have no idea what to suggest. I installed twrp by pushing it from my computer and was able to update with no issues. You will not be able to flash 4.4 ROMs with anything less than 2.6.3.3

Ah, I must have missed the bit about you taking the OTA. I was wondering if after taking it, whether there was a root/recovery method.

Nexus 4 Root?

Hi, I have a nexus 4 which has CWM installed however it doesn't seem to be rooted? I can boot into recovery and backup etc but how can I gain root access? I don't want to factory reset the phone. Is this possible?
Cheers!

Flash this in recovery. SuperSU
p/s: cwm always have issues with supersu. So, use latest cwm 6.0.4.5. It's better if you use latest twrp though.
Thanks mate worked fine!
