So I updated my nexus 4 using a clean factory image and applied the UPDATE-SuperSU-v1.43.zip root and everything worked fine AFAIK but after updating to the latest SU and SuperSU app I can't restore my apps from TWRP backup using titanium. It just didn't decompress the .Img data file, showing a blank list as soon as I selected the backup. Checked back reinstalling the zip file and worked back again. It's a bit weird as you don't need root to decompress an .img file.
What other root issues have you encountered on 4.3? What could have caused my problem?
U have to flash the latest supersu zip in recovery.
Hit thanks if I helped.

I selected the CWM/TWRP method to update SU. I imagine it's the same.

If that method doesn't work then you have to do it manually by flashing SuperSU 1.51 which fixes the restore issue on TB.

thanks.. any suggestions on how to re root? perhaps an easy method
and what apps do you recommend for root keeper?
Its like supersu pro or whatever.

Just flash recovery and then download the supersu zip. Flash the supersu and you are rooted

I used CWM to install the original zip. It prompted me before rebooting if I want to keep root/recovery and to fix it.
I used this thread to reroot using adb...

I used the Nexus 4 1.3 toolkit with updated files
As a precaution I backed up my folders and make a Titanium backup. Technically re-rooting will not WIPE phone like it did first time I purchased it.
I could have installed CWM but prefer to keep this phone stock, considering its as pure as it will ever be and want the OTA updates.
But there are so many options to get ROOT lots of options. Love it so far.
You can use cwm for flashing the ota to avoid the hassle of using adb sideload. You can choose stock recovery after flashing the su zip. Just use the cwm to flash ota and su. Just my 2 cents

I just paid the £1.95 for Su Pro, which keeps root over OTA updates. Worth the money IMHO, I have wasted more time that that in faffing around each time.
Just rooting it like you did first time will work.

Just root again, OTA will make your phone rooted again!!!
Wow. Thanks everyone. I am gonna try a few these. I had no idea su pro kept root. Only had i known
I learn.
After you reroot, get OTA Root Keeper from the Play Store so you can restore root in the future after an OTA
ok... so i figured out an easy way... i used nexus toolkit to root in the first place and then saw this on wug's website... followed the direction and got root back... Thanks everyone for your help
also, its not clear below, but these files are replaced on your computer under C:\Program Files\WugFresh Development\data
"Yes, I am aware that this isn’t working on 4.2.2 right now. This will be fixed in v1.6.3 which will be released ASAP (within a few days or sooner if possible). As a temporary fix you can replace the old adb/fastboot/dll files in the toolkits /data directory with the new ones: new_adb_and_fastboot.zip just download that zip and extract/unzip its contents into the toolkits /data directory and agree to overwrite those files, then proceed to use “Any Build” mode to perform subsequent operations like rooting. Again, this is just a temporary fix for those who are impatient."
Does it work for anyone? Upon first boot it works like normal but after I reboot it thinks I don't have root anymore.
Try rebooting again, some got this issue.

I Rooted 4.3, have no problems with root after rebooting.

The newest PA apparently you don't need to flash another zip so I deleted it after it worked on first boot.

Yeah you see when you update via OTA it will flash the newer version of the recovery.
You can unlock its screen via volume up and power.
As suggested try using a Toolkit to do it but if that fails then go to the bootloader and flash it manually.

Are you rooted? The update should be in your /cache folder, you can move it to the sd storage and flash from recovery. You'll probably also need superuser 1.51 zip to flash after flashing the update as you will lose root.

Yes updated last night, seen a few people having issues so was holding off, but it was pretty straight forward. I ended up downloading the grouper.zip (ota) update from the thread above and the superuser 1.5.1 zip. Fully unroofed from the superuser app then flashed the grouper.zip and superuser zip in recovery.

thank u all for helping
I also had to use the Grouper.zip to take the update. That zip comments out a line in the install script that performed a verification check that many people had fail. The released ota update continually failed for me. I never unrooted first, just flashed grouper.zip in TWRP recovery. After booting back up, I went back into TWRP and flashed the Supersu1.51 zip and got root back. No data loss. This is on a wifi, stock rom & kernel, rooted and TWRP recovery. Now on JWR66Y and happy.

I just read in another thread that custom recoveries cannot yet be flashed on the latest OTA. You have to revert back in order to have a custom recovery. According to this thread.
