Hi All,
Not quite sure what happened here.. Upgraded to latest nscollab yesterday, everything was working fine. Decided to try the "Antennas" app to see if it'd show where the towers are near me, switched to 2g mode, played around with it a bit, switched off 2g mode and now my phone does not see telus at all. When I go into search networks, telus simply doesn't show up and my phone stays in emergency mode.
It sees rogers fine and is able to connect to rogers with a friend's rogers sim. I've tried my telus im in other phones and it works fine, other people's telus sims in my phone don't work either.
I've tried reverting to an earlier backup as well as going back to a stock backup. I've also tried reflashing both the kb1 and kb3 radios, no luck.
Anyone know what might be the issue here?
both Telus / Bell do not have 2G
they only have 3G, as in the VOICE only works via 3G
it was the same using the SGS i9000
Did the rogers SIM work on 2G (Edge) only? I am guessing Rogers and Fido will work, but only on 2G
Same happened to me, on Fido, my phone could no longer connect to 3G...Only 2G after playing with settings. I returned the phone
The reason why Telus-Bell SIM would not work at all at this point is that they only support 3G...
That makes sense, but i don't have it set to 2g mode anymore. It should be seeing 3g just fine.

Just tried that, nothing. I think that's the same as a wipe data in recovery?
I've tried:
- Reverting back to a stock backup
- Reverting to an earlier working backup
- Doing a factory reset on both of the above
- Reflashing the radio on both

For some reason it was on the wrong band. Do this in dialer... *#*#4636#*#*, phone information, menu, select radio-band, USA, and should work make sure its on WCDMA preferred as well under phone information

I had the same issue when in Canada, and forgot I had the band set to Europe (my region).
I set it to Automatic detect, i know catching signal will take longer. But then I dont forget

i had the same problem since may 14th (sat), thanks for the fix!!!!!!!
Same thing happened here, same solution. Glad you stumbled on it too!
As the title says, had the same problem on my Nexus S (running on Bell), I believe manually switching the 2g/3g toggle in cyanogenmod rom accidentally is what set it off.
Glad you found the solution!! Was maddening for me; knew there must be a way to fix through the UI, but until I fond it, phone was a wifi mp3 player :/
Hey my friend wanted me to check if I had LTE in my area so i did the *#*#4636#*#* and clicked LTE/GSM/CDMA and did a speed test. Clearly I didn't have LTE testing myspeeds like (.12mpsD 1.2mpsU). Im curious as to if I accidently caused somthing to get screwed up in that section and would a full restore to stock fix that issue.

AT&T I assume (since you bothered to try at all).
Did you change your APN settings? Did you change the setting BACK TO WCDMA preferred?

Best you can do is go back and change it to stock (WCDMA preferred I believe)
Also make sure your APN is set correctly. Speed test via AT&T's cingular proxy are throttled. Read through this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2021401

I didn't get around to changing my apn settings I kinda got scared and went back to WCDMA all my APNs stayed the same. What does changing that do is it specific to the radio I assume? Idk what part of the rom I actually affected by changing to LTE

You weren't going to get LTE without changing to an LTE-enabled APN (for AT&T, it's "PTA" instead of "PHONE" or "WAP.CINGULAR"), so I assumed you had changed it.
Double check to make sure you're on WCDMA preferred ('ve had it not "stick" on phones before"). Then, restart your device.

Hello, I have no problem receiving an LTE signal on BCE (Canada) through the Phone Info Menu. I can select any of the preferred network types including LTE, LTE/GSM, CDMA, LTE/GSM/CDMA but it won't stay. Every day I have to go back into the menu and it reverts back to the first selection "WCDMA".
Does anyone know how to force this so it stays on LTE/GSM/CDMA. So it will stay on the LTE-enabled network unless there is a loss of signal and it reverts back to HSPA? It does this automatically when "LTE/GSM/CDMA is selected, but again reverts to CDMA within a day usually.
I did some searches here, but 99% of what comes up is just people asking how to enable LTE or if their network gets it?
Any ideas? Maybe some sort of macro thing.
Regards.
Add this line in build prob
telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1
Save
Reboot
Now in settings/more/mobile networks u will have an option to choose and it will stick. U have to add the line every time u flash ROMs.
But I keep iron WC DMA/gsm for better battery speed is OK on h+
Thanks for the helpful reply man. I haven't edited a build.prop yet, so Ill have to check it out.
Alright thats all done now, works like a charm. Like that I have the option now either way. I typically stick to WCDMA/GSM when on the road or at work where LTE is spotty, but on days off for around town I would rather just be on LTE as I usually just looking up something quick when Im shopping or something.
Thanks again.

I keep it at LTE, it does have less bars but quality is same for me, speeds are amazing. Also 4G is only data, not voice, so when u have an active call it will change to 3G.(but that's not the phone it's the network)
don't forget to do it again if you flash new ROM, also Tethering WiFi won;t work, there is a fix but it's complected for me, so I just go to W/G if I need to share connection.
So, my Nexus 4 shipped today, and it'll be in my grubby little hands by tomorrow evening. I, unfortunately, can't activate it until March, as I have to wait for my Verizon contract to end, but I keep seeing this LTE stuff, with no real explanation. I do know that the Nexus 4 has an inactive LTE radio in it, but what's the use of activating it, if T-Mobile doesn't have LTE? Is this only for the AT&T users?

There are other threads dealing with who can access LTE in the USA. I am in Canada and on Bell.
I'm in Canada, using Fido. I activate the LTE on my Nexus 4. It works fine, but I'm not able to share internet with wifi hotspot.
I have Android 4.2.1 (latest OTA from Google).
There is a bug with this version or it's only because I activate LTE manually ?

i recently got a rom from revolt on my n4 and i switched cdma to lte gsm wcdma auto
i also went into build.prop and wrote down telephony.lteOnGsmDevice=1. i went and to setting, more, mobile networks chose the correct setting. so now i got 4G. great i can make calls. GREAT. but i cannot receive calls...
need help with this. im really choked about this ROM
Even if I select "LTE/CDMA" in the Mobile network settings menu. The settings page keeps displaying "CDMA preferred".
Does this mean it didn't work? In quick settings, I see my mobile data connection as 3G Bell.
LTE only seems to work when using the *#*#4636*#*# trick in the Phone app.

Thanks, but LTE doesn't work in my country, its always stick on lte/gsm/wcdma but it doesnt detect my gsm so i have to manually set it on GSM only but wont stick here every time i restart my phone i have manually set it on GSM only otherwise it wont detect my network
Any advice ?
How can I make "WCDMA Only" the default selection?
Where I Iive there is no LTE and the coverage of the service is quite poor, so the phone keeps jumping between E and 3G/H. I have to manually go into the phone app and select "WCDMA Only" is there a build prop tweak to make the "WCDMA Only" the default option instead of "WCDMA Preferred"?
Thank you.

Aah Crap ! Well thanks man saved me from buying on guess i will have to stick with my rezound for now then
fixed it
For everyone still searching for a solution to this problem, this worked for me. Go to phone information and turn your radio off. Then switch to LTE/GSM/CDMA then power down, DO NOT TURN YOUR RADIO BACK ON. Now remove your Sim card, put it back in, reboot and you should be good to go. DO NOT HGO BACK INTO PHONE INFORMATION OR ELSE IT WILL NOT STAY
If it still isn't connecting try fiddling around with your APN settings.
So I recently bought anew unlocked MetroPCS St, which is the sm-g900t1 model, and I am using it on att. What I have noticed is that it has a tendency to go into 4G mode and not want to switch back. I literally have to go into the *#2263# menu and choose an LTE band, then switch back to automatic selection. It's a bit of a pain.
I have rooted it and installed a few programs, but that is about the extent of my issues. Oh, and I hate the auto correct on this phone.
Anyone know what I can do in order to prevent this from happening?

I would like to add onto this and say that I will show that I have LTE, yet a speed test shows otherwise. I just check mine and I was getting 0.8mbps download. So either I'm being throttled despite not being at my limit, or the phone likes doing what it wants.
I Have a brand new SIM from WIND mobile in Ontario that came in another phone. I have this Nexus 4 kicking around so I popped in the WIND sim, but it does not connect. When I go to search for mobile networks in settings, it finds all the non AWS carriers (including the 'WIND away' network) but does not show Wind 3G (this is what the correct network lists as on my phone supplied by them). I have played around a bit in the *#*#4636#*#* menu, but nothing seems to make it work. Is the AWS band disabled in some Nexus 4s, and is there a way to enable it?
Welcome to XDA
Okay, first of all to avoid duplicate threads please use the search function of XDA to find your answer, or do a little Googling...
Anyways to answer you question, the AWS band of the Nexus 4 is disabled by Google to lower costs. That may sound crazy, but the story goes something like this:
If you didn't already know, The Nexus 4 is based off of the LG Optimus G, and has a lot of the same insides...
The same board was used for the nexus 4 and Optimus G, and on some of the G models they had LTE on band 4 and 17.
The nexus 4 never went through the FCC for LTE so Google disabled it because it wasn't worth the trouble of supporting 1 band.
Now, your answer: Depending on the Android Version, it maybe as simple as tinkering with the Info menu you were in. (4.2.1)
Newer versions were harder to enable LTE
You need to figure out what you need to do depending on the newer version.
You may need something as simple as an older radio
You might need to unlock your phone's boot loader, (which requires a factory reset), or maybe even have to flash a custom recovery (like CWM or TWRP) and custom rom.
It would really help I knew more info about the device likel what Android version,if its rooted, or has an unlocked bootloader, etc.
If you don't know what any of this means DON'T WORRY, there is an entire community of people willing to help
Sorry I should have gone into more detail. I have done the various tricks to try to enable LTE, but is that the same as enabling the AWS network? I was under the impression from the WIND folks that the Nexus4 worked for them stock.
As for the firmware version, I have tried on 4.2, 4.2.2, KitKat (4.4 I think?). I have tried after flashing the stock roms of each of these versions as well as after rooting. I have also tried flashing different radio versions to no success.
I should also mention that under the "4636" menus I have tried to click "select radio band" from the menu, but this just crashes the process and goes back to the first menu.
So does no LTE mean no AWS?
Hmmm...
First of all, NEVER click Select Radio Band, like you said, it crashes both the menu and resets your connection. Bug? Unfinished feature? No one knows.
You are supposed to click on GSM/LTE button instead of WCDMA preferred.
If that sticks then you might be done on (4.2.1)
If on higher version, then get the older .33 or .27 radio or a hybrid radio
AWS is the band the nexus 4 has unofficial support for, so its actually the opposite:
No AWS=No LTE
So try getting 4.2.1 via factory images and try getting that working okay (WCDMA→GSM/LTE)?
If not then tell me
How about 4.2 (JOP40C)? I have that currently but I can go back and get 4.2.1 if necessary.
And just to put the AWS/LTE bit to rest, can I have (on this or any other phone) AWS without LTE, or are they synonymous?
I am playing with it right now without the sim becaue it is busy in the other phone. When I switch to GSM/LTE AUTO, I find AT&T as well as the big three Canadian networks, but still don't see WIND. I did not see the AT&T on WCDMA, but its spotty near the border here anyways.

Sorry for the late reply but,
In 4.2 all you have to do is switch to GSM/LTE and switch to correct APN's in the phone settings
You can AWS on 3G as far as I know but it won't make a difference...
The only reason we are using AWS band for LTE is because its the only one the Nexus 4 can see.
As for the last paragraph what do you mean you cant see WIND? What do you mean by "seeing"?
Can you clarify?

Could you try this small app (should trigger the radio band select menu) to see what options do you have?
https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network
For the Wind Mobile AWS, you will need the WCDMA option. This is what Wind Mobile use, not LTE.
If you will be able to select the WCDMA option and still no Wind 3G/HSPA, then we will tinker with the APN settings.

By 'seeing' I mean when I go to the network selection / search function in settings. When I click to search for network providers, I do not see WIND3G as an option (or any WIND branded network). On the phone they provided me, when I search for networks I have several options that are labelled as WIND. If I recall correctly, I think I have about 12 choices between various providers, whereas with the Nexus 4 I just show three selections.
@DupleX01, Thanks. I will give that a shot when I get a few minutes to play with this at home. It has been a couple of weeks since I have worked with the Nexus.

It's a slow day at work, so I am back on this. I have tried setting the radio to WCDMA only, but this does not make a difference. The only network I can see with the SIM in is "WIND away", which I believe is Rogers. So I am on roaming. Should I flash a different radio to the phone? Anybody got suggestions on which radio is the best version for use on WIND?
With the SIM in, the APN settings are already correct for WIND, but I am not finding their network.
Also just for kicks I flashed kitkat (stock) again, including the radio that comes with the ZIP. No changes in network availability.. Gonna leave it on this for now unless someone suggests that it might be better to revert to 4.2.1 or another version.

Based on your findings, I would say everything is alright on hardware side (APN is good, radio ok for WCDMA). So, it could be a glitch with Wind micro sim card. Still bonded to the previous phone IMEI what not. Make sure you now the serial of the micro sim, your imei of the new phone and give them (Wind Mobile tech support) a call.
