Connect Nexus 4 to TV - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hey guys!
I was wondering if there was any way to connect my phone to my PC. I know about Slimport and Miracast wireless display technology but unfortunately, we don't get slimport adapters here in India and my TV doesn't have miracast support (AFAIK). The TV is a Sony Bravia 32bx350. Is there any way i can mirror my phone on my TV?? Thanks!

You can buy a miracast box or Chromecast.

Chromecast won't mirror your phone. At this point all it will do is stream YouTube, Netflix, and Play content.
I am afraid slim port and miracast are your only options.

dont think so
The 10 hasn't been set up with miracast yet. So I believe the answer is no. You gotta have Google TV also for miracast to work. So the only idea I can think of is micro HDMI to HDMI to TV.

Miracast has nothing to do with Google TV however, HDMI will work.
Does the android tablets act as stupid as the ipad does when you connect it to the tv? I dont want the screen of my tablet to stay on and waste battery while its playing in the tv thru HDMI.

The Infinity when connected to TV through HDMI when playing a movie the screen on the Infinity will shut off or go on a screen saver mode. I'm not sure about the N10.
Edit:Now that I have my N10. Hdmi works flawless. Mirrors everything even on bootscreen. Netflix runs just fine through hdmi cord to tv.

How doesn't it? Doesn't the tablet need the Google TV WiFi connection to "miracast" on to the TV?

Miracast is not a google invention, it's a wifi alliance standard using wifi direct to connect any two devices, not necessarily a tv

[Q] Nexus 4 TV Out

Hi guys,
I recently bought a google nexus 4 running android 4.2.1 stock.
I have been trying to connect it to my tv using a HML adapter however when i connect it all up and set the tv to the appropriate setting (HDMI 1)
the screen just remains blank and there is no sound.
I have been unable to find a tv out option anywhere in settings, and i am wondering if it should just work when connected automatically or is there a setting somewhere i have been unable to find?
Thanks for the help!
The nexus 4 does not have a MHL chip in it. You will have to get a miracast wireless display adapter or slimport cable

[Q] Watching video on my TV via HDMI?

Hi.
Apologies in advance if this has been covered - I've searched but can't find an answer.
I bought this cable: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060AU5MW/ref=cm_cr_rev_prod_title to connect up my Sharp TV to my Nexus 10 and although I have connected it up to the appropriate HDMI port, I get nothing at all. I'm sure I'm being dim, but a) have I bought the right cable and b) is there something clever I should now do to make it work? Or, c) have I just cocked the whole thing up?
Many thanks, in advance!
Re: [Q] Watching Netflix through my TV via HDMI?
Netflix blocks HDMI mirroring. An updated version for smartphone allows it, but nothing new for the tablet version yet.

Thank you for the response. I have tried to also play other videos from the Nexus 10 through the TV, without luck. It may be just my cackhandedness, or the TV, but I am selecting the correct HDMI port and still seeing (and hearing) nothing. I would LOVE to find a solution, if anyone can help? Ta!

I hope no-one minds if I bump this, but I'm at my wit's end!
The only way I've found to make this work, is to have both devices turned off (TV and Nexus10), then connect the HDMI cable, then turn on both the N10 and TV. Once the N10 is half way through the boot sequence, the TV should display everything that's on the Tablet onto the TV.
It's a pain in the ass to have to turn off the tablet and turn it back on... but that's the only solution I've found so far. I read that if you try to connect the mini HDMI while the tablet is on... it could damage it?? I dunno if that's true or not.

This is false info. I've been using HDMI mirroring with Netflix for years! HTC evo, galaxy s 2, galaxy nexus, nexus 4 and my nexus 10. All without rooting.
To op. Perhaps the cable you have isn't very good. Mine just works. I have to wait a couple seconds for sound but that's it.
Mine is from amazon company is mediabridge.
Likewise here, got an el-cheapo cable off of eBay and it just works. Not tried tried Netflix but my own videos and stills display no problem. I know it's a noddy question but are sure you have the TV setup correctly, selected the right input etc?

I think so. I put the cable into the hole marked 'HDMI 6' and then select that on my TV, but I get nothing at all. I bought this cable, which seems to work for other people: http://www.amazon.co.uk/gp/product/B0060AU5MW/ref=oh_details_o00_s00_i00?ie=UTF8&psc=1
Does it look okay? Am I missing something?
Many thanks!
The cable looks fine, do you have another device to try it with? A camera for example.

Roku 3 supports Miracast?!

So I got an email about the new Roku 3. Says to support Miracast.
I'm going to buy the unit as soon as Walmart carries it. (Most likely to use it for a while and return it since I have a wdtv)
Anyone have plans to buy one? Anyone have one yet? Can't wait for something with real Miracast support so we can use it with out Nexus 4's.

Yeah not bad for $99.
I hope you will let us know if you are able to use miracast on it with your phone.
So does it support miracast out of the box? I thought I read it would be a firmware update at a later time.

Re: Roku 3 supports Miracast
Roku didn’t want to comment about Miracast at the time and didn’t mention the technology in its Roku 3 press material. However, both the Streaming Stick and the new Roku 3 support Wi-Fi Direct, a technology Miracast is based on, so we shouldn’t be too surprised to see both get a Miracast update some time in the near future.

Miracast
My Roku 3 shows up on the network with a wifi direct id. If I try to connect to it, it prompts for a password. I can not find any setting for this and have no idea what the password is. Doe anyone know what software will be needed on the PC to spport Miracast? I have a Atheros wifi adapter with Miracast support in my laptop.
Hey guys, the roku broadcasts a SSID but it looks like it's used for wifi direct to pair with the remote. I can't seem to find any settings relating to miracast and the unit won't show up when I scan for displays on my Nexus.

I found a neat trick to connect, I noticed the SSID it broadcasts says (WPS available). So I figured they are using WPS to link the remote to the roku. So if you go on the roku, start up remote pairing, and click the WPS button on your phone, it connects.
However no wireless displays show up in the phone settings and I have yet to find a benefit to connecting directly.
Still no Miracast support. Sigh.

Sadly I think this is a classic case of false advertising. I've just finished reading a bunch of pre release press materials and even a video claiming the roku3 was doing mirroring from the PC.... looks like it's all lies.

Using Miracast with LG smart tv

hey. i am using Miracast to play videos on the tv. the tv model is LA6600 and its one of the latest models. i experience lag while using it so i cant play games on my TV. and when i use it it takes a second to respond. is it because of the tv or my phone? thanks for answers
It's because of the technology and this behaviour is normal using miracast.

thanks. i saw this link while looking for it so i though it should play with min delays. i mean i wish i could play games on a bigger screen.
a bit offtopic but...
Is there any way to use miracast on my smart tv? When I do not have wifi dongle on the tv, I'm using patch cable to connect tv to router and wifi to connect G2 to the same router.
Is there any "trick" to mirror G2 screen to TV? (Ican watch pics and movies directly on tv with smartshare function) But I cannot mirror the screen
If your tv support miracast it should work I think.

my LG smart TV supports miracast, G2 supports miracast, but the TV does not have WiFi module It's been connected with patch cable to the router and when I try to start miracast from the phone it does not "find" my TV
any ideas what I'm doing wrong ?
I have no idea. Search for network requirements needed for miracast to work. Maybe you'll find something useful.
