[Q] What cause the camera to lag? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hi, I just got my wife a new sprint galaxy s4. this is day 2 of usage and every time she wants the camera it will lag to open about 1 minute before she can use it. does anyone had this problem and know how can it be corrected?
Thanks.

Have you tried a hard reset? That is the very first thing I do when I get a new phone. ...

Try to upgrade to the latest firmware mf9 if you haven't done so already. And see if that helps.

same here, sometimes when I open the camera app my S4 freezes for few seconds and then reboots, not mentioning the overheating problem.
Samsung should release an update or something, it better be a S/W issue otherwise I will kill someone.
Do you have problems running Antutu benchmark?
I have the same symptoms as you describe and the one thing that makes my phone restart every time is running the Antutu CPU benchmark.
Everything is stock and yes the phone likes to reboots when I start the camera app. Not every time but like once out of 2 times

Hi MoHeadGeek,
Do you have any update on that?
Any updates on the reboot issue when using the camera? It is really annoying

Same here. I don't know if I should change my phone or it's just a software bug that they will solve soon...
For me, it also freezes+rebooted while in the gallery or even launching some app.
If everything is stock, unmodded, and you installed all available updates from Samsung I would go get a replacement.
If your phone restarts when you start the Camera it is a software issue
It happens due to low RAM [the irony that it is in S4 -_-]
They should fix it soon but if you need to immediately then go to development options, scroll all the way down and keep Max tasks to 4.
Read it somewhere it works
But I think you have to set again after maual reboot

I installed the german update and it fixed the problem.
The developers options didn't work for me when I was with the stock rom.

Maybe but I wouldn't wait. Root and install a custom kernel and/or rom to smooth it out. I did and made a difference because the lag was just too annoying.
figures i just took back my white s4 cause the data would take mad long to pop on after i shut wifi off that phone was so smooth they gave me a new s4 i picked black this time but this one is deff a lil laggy wish i just stayed with the white.. i screwed my self i paid restock fee and had to get a new screen protector.. dude was mad in the store he wanted me to wait 2 days so they could order me a s4.. i wanted one that day.. he was all mad? said it looks bad on him.. i didnt undrstand that at all
Lag? Did you try turning off s voice activation from home button? That's the only time I noticed a hint of slowness.

Like its lag sometimes when using keyboard, When opening apps, The gallery, taking pictures. It's just really laggy every now and then and this is my second black S4 so I hope they fix it asap

I've never had any lag at all. This thing was smoother than my Evo Lte with Viper rom out of the box.
Sent from my SPH-L720 using Tapatalk 2
honestly when I read this I thought "what lag?" I never had any lag issues before. Granted, I'm picky and a tuning junkie so I implemented ktoonsez's kernel with frandom support and crossbreeder anyway. The result? My phone is LIQUID smooth.
I'm not sure if I wanna root this or not yet

Go to developer options and turn off window & transition animation and animator duration. ....

Yea I did that already .

ForceRom with Ktoonz kernel has my phone running smooth as butter. Not to mention my performance and battery life has been off the charts with it! See below.

Simpsons Tapped Out

I'm running stock rooted and since day one with this phone, the Simpsons game has been choppy and crashes often. I've sent quiet a bit of reports once it crashes, but I was wondering if anyone else had this problem?

Mine is choppy (low frame rate) occasionally - it was more noticeable during the recent halloween event. Seems ok now since the thanksgiving update.
It does crash quite frequently though - maybe one out of every three or four sessions.
I play daily and it crashes at least once every time I play it. Used to have sgs4 I337 running gpe Roms and it wouldn't work at all. Warrantied a bad headset speaker and here I am. The new sgs4 AT&T sent me had a locked boot loader and no root android 4.3. I didn't want a galaxy phone so sold it for 400 bought the nexus 5.
Level 37 now. Same as zulugod stated was laggy with Halloween update, better now.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
In 37, it does have fps lag and crashes like six times before I can assign everyone to tasks

Ok glad it's not just me. I'm hoping in the next play store update, They'll fix it or something.
Sent from my Nexus 5 using Tapatalk
Every time it crashes I send the report. So I'm sure someone will eventually take a look and issue a small patch.

I installed a different kernel and haven't had an issue yet. I'm using Francos Kernel its in the original android Dev thread. I understand that some people don't want root and modify googles pretty work but this is a fix for me.

[Q] Note 3 random powers down

For about a Week my note 3 started to just power down. Sometimes it happens when I deactivate the lock screen or it might happen when Im just using my phone.
I have updated it to kitkat N9005XXUENB3_N9005OXXENB1_XEO and have tried other custom roms and it still is doing the same. PLEASE any advice would be awesome!
thanks in advance.

Try FULL wipe (Including wiping internal sd) and then reflash the ROM and see if it still continues, if it does... You might have to take the device in for servicing.
Thanks for the reply. I have triped knox so how can i take it in for a service? Could it be anything else apart from a hardware fault?? Thanks
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Still trying to find out if this is a hardware issue or softwear. Any tips guys?
Sent from my SM-N9005 using Tapatalk
Well, if it will be a real problem than you should still take it into service, maybe that guy will forget to check the knox.
I'm starting to notice that I'm not getting no power downs when the charging lead is pluged in the phone.
Might it be a battery issue? If so how much does one cost for a note 3?

I had the same problem with my n7100 a few months ago.
the problem was, that one of the 4 battery contacts was a bit dirty (dont ask how this happened :silly, so a hard (or less hard) shake of the phone could interrupt the contact for a moment and the phone restarted.
I know its unlikely, but better check it before sendind it to the service
Yes it's working fine now for a few days....got a tooth pick and cleaned the contacts and everything is all fine.
Going to order another battery for backup also.
Thanks guys.

sph-L720 freezes when making a call

hello friends. I have a galaxy sph-L720 s4 unlocked and using it with tmobile. the problem is that every time I make a call, the call freezes and I have to wait 20 to 30 seconds to respond to me and make the call again. rather, the phone will freeze every time I make a call. nae Filmware I'm running and I've re-flashed 2 times and still the same. any suggestions? thanks
Hmm... I am having the same experience and I too am flashed to T-Mobile. Currently running Carbon Rom 4.4.2. The lag occurs on both NAE and MF9 modems.

There is a quick fix for this, sell your Sprint phone and buy a T-Mobile version.

It's just my secondary phone so no that's not an option for me. I was just confirming for the OP that it's not an isolated issue.
