[Q] Flashing ROM Error, assert failed... - Huawei Ideos X5 U8800

Hi, this is my first post on XDA and after watching the "Noob" video I will be wary here, haha
So, I needed to update my IDEOS u8800 to 2.3.*, I googled if the hardware could support it and it said yes, but the software isn't official.
I did some research and found I had to root the phone, I did so successfully, it was quite fun honestly.
It now had SuperUser but it was still the same version so I googled some more and found out about ROMs.
From what I could gather you can upgrade your android version if you "Flash" a correct ROM (If your hardware supports it ),
Then I downloaded and installed CWM v 5.0.2.7 and backed up the whole phone using MyBackup and Titanium Backup, that worked well, but when I tried to Flash a ROM, thats when the problems began...
So I downloaded the ROM and moved it to my SD card, like the many tutorials said, then I fully shut down my phone and held the Power and VOL+ buttons and entered CWM recovery, I formated the /data and /cache by using the "- wipe data/factory reset" option on the first screen (Not sure if that formated "/dalvik") and "- wipe cache partition", after that I went into the menu "- install zip from sdcard" then "- choose zip from sdcard" and selected the .zip file that was the ROM I downloaded, then I got an error, I will post the whole log...
Log:
"CWM-based Recovery v5.0.2.7
-- Installing: /sdcard/oxygen2.3.2-u8800.zip
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Installing update...
assert failed: getprop("ro.product.device") == "u8800" \\ getprop("ro.build.device") == "u8800" || getpropro.product.board") == "u8800
E:Error in /sdcard/oxygen2.3.2-u8800.zip
(Status 7)
Installation aborted."
I have had a little bit of time in Java and from what I can tell, the ROM doesn't say its compatible with the device, the build of the device or the board, which I think refers to the motherboard.
Also, the phone won't boot past the "IDEOS" icon, I think the current ROM is broke, now, atleast
I would like a way to get it to boot again at Android version 2.2
I would love a way to make it boot again and upgrade the Android version to 2.3 (Or higher, if its compatible, I doubt it is although)

Are you using CWM 5.0.2.7 with 12900 baseband?

I am pretty sure I am using that version of CWM but no idea at all on the baseband I could find out if you pointed me in the right dirrection.
Just remembered my friend has an IDEOS u8800 just like mine, but working, its rooted but nothing more, would that help?

Okay, just found on my friends phone that the baseband is 129005, going to check what baseband CWM...

You must use 5.0.2.6 recovery for 12900 baseband

where is a download link for that?
Will any ROM for u8800 work and can I update my phone by doing so??
Thanks SOOO MUCH

[Q] Radio update - rebooted to static picture

Hi
I have recently had my HTC Wildfire rooted after the fantastic AlpharevX contribution.
I've played around with different ROMs, and since I experienced problems with GPS in CM 7.1 RC1, I decided to go for a Radio update.
I have CWM recovery 3.2.0.0, which according to this general Wildfire thread is not compatible with flashing the current radio versions.
I therefore downloaded the Radio zip-file, copied it to my SD root dir and started ROM Manager and selected update ROM from SD card.
I checked "Backup current ROM" and "Wipe Dalvik cache" and pressed OK to the different dialog boxes.
It then rebooted to a black screen with the little green Android and a warning sign with an exclamation mark in it.
It has just stayed there for more than 10 minutes now.
I read somewhere that flashing radio can be riscy, and also that one must have patience and not interrupt anything. Therefore I haven't dared touching it without seeking advice...
What should I do? Am I supposed to press anything to continue, or should I try to turn it off (either using power button or by battery removal)?
Kind regards, Martin
UPDATE: I lost patience and decided to click on the different buttons. By clicking the power button, it displayed that I had entered CWM Recovery 3.2.0.0 and the log states:
Finding update package...
Opening update package...
Verifying update package...
E: failed to seek in /cache/update.zip (Invalid argument)
E: signature verification failed
Installation aborted.
I have just rebooted for now... Is it somehow possible to have two different CWM Recovery versions installed, such that I can boot directly into 3.2.0.0 and maybe enter 2.5.x.x. from ROM Manager?
you must flash clockworkmod recovery in rom manager then click run in recovery mode (second option) in rom manager then phone will reboot and got temporary CWM 2.5.0.7 and you can flash radio in this version

Thanks a lot...
I just updated the radio.
Now I also now how to flash Froyo custom ROMS. CWM 3.2 only allowed me to flash Gingerbread ROMs.
moderator pls close thread problem solved
Hi since we are at it, I also have a question about radios...
My Bluetooth used to work just fine on my htc stock ROM before switching to CM 7.0.3, I could both send and receive files from my mac.... well the thing is I can only receive them now, I can't get my wildfire to send anything to my mac! (already tried the app from the market, I think it's called Bluetooth File Transfer)
Anyway do you think a radio upgrade or in my case downgrade could fix this? I currently have 13.55.55.24H_3.35.20.10.

[Q] Upgrade my Rom from Froyo 2.2 Huawei Ideos x5 u8800

I am new to android smart phones.
I am trying to upgrade Huawei Ideos x5 u8800 from Froyo 2.2 to Oxygen or MIUI.
I have downloaded Oxygen and MIUI for my cell. Place the zip file in external sd card. Root my cell and then selected "Wipe data/factory rest"
After Wiping i selected "apply sdcard:update.zip"

I have never upgrade to OS before. Its the 1st time...
Can Anyone Help Me...!!!!!
Did you replace upgrade the recovery.img file first?
You need the Clockwork Recovery to be able to flash a custom Rom...
In case you haven't done this already, just turn the phone off, press Vol+,Vol- and Power. The screen should turn to pink, when that happens, just plug the USB cable to your computer. Browse the new removable drive on the computer and replace the file named recovery.img with this one:
http://www.mediafire.com/?57njygc8oianjac
Once you've done that, just disconnect the USB cable and take the battery out. But the battery back and now you should have CWM recovery and you should be able to access that by pressing VOl+ and Power.
Inside the recovery, just select install zip from SD card and away you go...
Katu in what way is your cwm recovery different from the one mentioned in http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1130524 ? Which one is the preferred one to pick?
It isn't...it's the exact same one, I just didn't bother searching for it...

Well yours isn't binairy the same as both ones found in the thread that i mentioned so claiming they are exactly the same isn't true..so i still wonder.
I'm also not sure which version to install because in total there seem to exist 3 versions of cwm for this phone now.

It shouldn't matter, The one I've uploaded to mediafire has been taken from the phone directly, so it may be a bit older or something...But essentially it should be identical.
Also, I believe Genokolar has released a new version in the meantime:

Maybe try the latest one.

Hi..
I'm having the same problem ("assert failure") when trying to upgrade to MIUI from Froyo...
If I remember rightly, MIUI expects the product board and device to be "u8800"...
elixir reports..
board : U8800
Device : hwu8800
I think that's why it's not working?? I sent my phone off to be repaired and have only just, in the last 3 weeks, got it back with a new mainboard....
I'm thinking they've made some small changes (and perhaps some not so small) to the latest revision of the mainboard?
I'm running the latest clockwork recovery too, and am fully rooted (of course..)...
All caches flushed ...
(Just making sure you guys know I've followed the essential steps....)

This is the step you're doing wrong. You can't select update.zip with a custom rom as far as I am aware. Try the option labelled "choose zip from sdcard" instead then select the miui file
I've always installed in this way and never had any problems:
Wipe data/factory reset
Wipe cache partition
Advanced - Wipe dalvik cache
Mounts and storage - Format /system, /cache and /data
Install zip from sdcard
Choose zip from sdcard
*choose the MIUI file you downloaded*
Reboot after it's finished.
Hope it helps.

As discussed via PMs, this looks like a problem with CWM version you've tried (you said it was the latest...not sure which version tho).
I'm glad that the one I've uploaded works and the problem is resolved.

What file are you installing named "update.zip"?
If you're flashing a ROM, you should be choosing "install from zip file" , then "choose zip file from sdcard"
Yes I've tried it that way, but like u said its not installing anything not even with a different SD card.
......I wish someone was located in Philadelphia that I can have them do it n actually see the problem ...):
Sent from my PC36100 using xda premium
And yes I tried update zip n even tried the stock ROM....nothing ...
Could you perhaps post a video of what CWM is doing when you try to flash a new rom?
Also have you tried to do the downgrade down the 3.0.1 and then rooted, install acer recovery and try the whole process again? It's worth a try.
ok so i flashed my a500 tab with acer recovery and I have tried to install a new rom and now it will not let me install any rom!!
After you installed acer recovery you
Boot into acer recovery
Then once into acer recovery you have to flash cwm from within acer recovery.
Then boot into cwm and select the rom that you put on the root of your external sd card.
Something strange going on.
ok i could only turn it on by power + vol - button...
its stuck on the Acer logo, i tried a hard reset (don't care if i lose my root) as they showed on the Acer website and it wouldn't even do that....
so i have called Acer and being as tho its under warranty i sent it back to get a new one...
I'll reply to this post once i receive it back....Thx everyone!

Then I turned usb-debugging off and rebooted my phone.
Now I can get into bootmenu, and this is what I do:
1) go to recovery
2) select custom recovery

E: Can't open /tmp/recovery.log
4) I then select wipe data/factory reset

9) And it says: Finding update package

Thanks to the previously backup I can use may phone as usual.
What I have done wrong with de ICS installation?
Thanks
PS. Sorry for probable a dummie question:What we have to do with md5 zip near the CM9 Jordan.zip?

Yes I do, but nothing change,
Thanks
if I'm not mistaken the last release of 2nd init is not compatible with defy. Try to check this on the development forum. I hope I have been of help.
I'd tried with both 1.0.7 latest and 0.6.1.
With latest, the phone is blocked.
Thanks
I had used this. Try with it
P.S. sorry for my bad english.
Tried, the same errors,
Thanks
I don't know. Sorry. By the time i had used that.

What do you mean by "stable recovery"? You talk about version 0.6. of 2nd init or something else?
Can you show a step-by step procedure?
Thank you in advance.
However, which is the procedure to un-root a defy+ and to have it with the original, fresh system?
I had flash a new SBF, root with Unlockroot v2.3, anything else doesn't work, 2ndinit v2.0 stable, wipe data/cache/dalvik (same errors), try to install cm9-ics, the same error "Can't make /tmp/update_binary"

Hi, I have exactly the same problem.. Trying to find a solution but is quite difficult. First I thought it has something to do with the partitioning, as stated in THIS topic. But, in THIS topic, people say that partitioning the SD card is not necessary at all..
@Cretu22: Yes stable recovery is CWM 0.6
Don't install stable recovery! I too faced this issue when I flashed using stable recovery. In snd init install Latest recovery and then try flashing your ROM. That should work..
I did choose the stable version indeed 0.6.7.
Now i did uninstall it and installed the latest 1.0.7, but when I reboot my phone it won't get into the boot menu but just boots into android. Tried it several times, but only with 0.6.7 I seem to be able to get in the menu

Yes, its working Pressing the volume down button was not necessary with 0.6.7, that was what went wrong. Now the zips installed like a charm
i know the answer and is very simple
the problem is that you cannot create that specific folder.... because it already exist, cmp (connected music player) creates it, just delete it from SD and done!

[Q] Last version of CM10.1 for defy (mb525)

Hello,
I own a defy mb525 with CM7.2.0. I am not so happy with this version (bad 3g access; battery life very short)
So I decided to install the CM10.1.
On the develloper page I saw that the status has been updated on the 26.03. But if I look for my model (mb525), I can find only a version dated on the 120904.
Is there a newer version for the mb525 or is it only for the mb520 and mb526 ?

First of all, none of you guys ever read the stickies. It is packed with good info.
Our phone has a locked bootloader, it is almost impossible to brick.
Download latest CM10 and then install.
Ive come across a newbi problem im on the link of the latest cm10 (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1768702) and the file I try to flash wont install it gets aborted, I searched the forms for other cm10 and same issue file gets aborted.
If possible to be directed to the file I need to flash to cm10

out of curiousity, i restored my mb525 back to cm7 nightly 20111201 nandroid, which has cwm v5.0.3.2. i did not check the bootmenu version but it should be the same as yours. then, after formatting system/cache partitions, i flashed cm-10-20130918-nightly-mb526.zip, and it worked.
so i don't really know what's wrong with your phone, but i have a couple of suggestions for you to try. not that there's any logical explanations but try it anyway:
1. according to the error messages, you have the cm10 rom in the root folder of the sdcard. try creating a sub-folder called cm10 and copy the cm10 rom and the minimal gapps into it.
2. download the defy_fullwipe_ext4.zip and defy_fullwipe_ext3.zip ( for later use, when you want to revert back your rom) from here and put them in cm10 folder as well:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1818520
3. reboot into recovery but don't do any format or wipe. instead flash the file defy_fullwipe_ext4.zip and this will format your partitions into the ext4 file system.
4. then flash the cm10 rom. if it installs sucessfully, then without any further wiping, nor flashing the minimal gapps, reboot the phone. (note that the os will reboot once more in the middle of booting up, seemingly having a bootloop problem. don't worry it's meant to do that, unless it rebooted more than once)
5. if it boots up sucessfully, do some basic set up first before rebooting back into recovery to flash the minimal gapps.
alternatively you could try flashing cm9.1 (ext3) to get a newer bootmenu and cwm versions before flashing cm10. no need to flash any gapps, just wipe system/cache partitions and flash the cm9.1 rom by itself. reboot into cm9.1, do basic set up. once it's ready reboot into recovery and do the above steps, starting from step 3, to flash cm10.
good luck.....
edit: did you get your cm10 rom from here:

I did try using that link but the files still would abort when flashing, also tried http://d-h.st/users/Quarx files it did the same thing
I followed your instruction but decided to goto cm 9 first I flashed the (ext3) file it installed and cm9.1 installed also installed twrp with no issues but when I was going through cm9 and its functions I couldent go on line a popup message (Unfortunately, brower has stopped) also I wasn't able to log on google play a pop up message (Unfortunately, com. google android.gb has stopped). so I got fed up and decided to goto cm10.1 so I first flashed with ext4.zip it installed and then tried to flash 10.1 file once again the file wouldn't install it gave me aborted file message again. I had no choice to reboot and I had to reinstall the factory file(brick). I am now back to where I started :silly: cm7 2.3.7 its been a hell of a weekend ........... ill give it another shot soon :fingers-crossed:
