While I am learning about development I am no where near a developer. What exactly does the kernel source mean in terms of us getting a decent 4.3 rom?

It means the official release of 4.3 isn't too far away. Hopefully they start deploying it today too :fingers-crossed:

So what are the chances that the 4.3 Google Play Edition adds the functionality we have in 4.2 Sense to remove the black menu bar?

This isn't technically relevant to the One but i read this on twitter

Its possible since they have added Sense features into the GE (Beats) but i wouldn't count on it

I hope we get the OTA today!

Yeah, the fact that GPE has Beats was why I was hoping. Right now I'm running the Switch ROM but I'd love to just do a full RUU/conversion to Google Play, but the black bar of doom is the one thing that holds me back. If they added the swipe functionality, I'd switch over 100% and go for the GPE otas.

Edit: apparently I was wrong

No it doesn't. Ge still has sense kernel and framework

I was contemplating using said switch also. Just because you have best if both worlds. I'd consider vdoing the ruu conversion just for that ota.

We just need the actual 4.3 rom, yay

could someone build the rom from the released source?

There's not enough to build a rom. It's just the kernel and the htc frameworks and drivers. No system apps etc...

I wonder if it has the ir working

So when do we get ICS?

Not meaning to be impatient, just haven't been around the HD2 fora as much lately, just visited today and am surprised to see that the HD2 Android fora aren't all abuzz about porting ICS to our device.
Is anybody currently working on a port?
Anybody got a rough ballpark type of release date?
I've been running the same ROM on NAND for like the past year, ICS is probably the only thing that could make me consider abandoning what I've got on now
Well, seeing how the source to it won't be available for atleast maybe about a month after the phone's release, it prbly won't be anytime soon.

There was no need to resize anything from AOSP between 320x240, 320x480, 640x480, 800x480.
ICS came to unify Smartphone and Tablet. If developers need to build a version for Smallscreen and bigscreen, then there goes the point of ICS.

What strapped is saying is that cm7 would be stock in this situation, as it is stripped of all the added UIs of the phone companies. For example: what the Nexus devices are shipped with is technically stock, then the companies add their UIs and make their own versions of stock for their devices.

looking for aokp mod to display date in status bar (or ROM recommendation)

I'm looking for a mod for official AOKP or something similar that will allow me to display the date in the status bar along with the clock (as far as I can tell, AOKP lets you show day of the week, but not the whole date).
I know there are other ROMs that will allow this, but if possible I'd like to go with AOKP because I'm setting this up for my girlfriend and it's fairly easy to use.
Or if there's no mod for official AOKP that'll do this, could you recommend a very stable ROM that's similar to AOKP and very stable? I've never owned a Mako so I'm not familiar with the ROMs for it. I don't want her to have problems because I promised her it'd work just as well as stock, except better.
Thanks very much.

Pac Man is great, but I want to go with something a little simpler - as close to vanilla AOKP as possible.

Paranoid Android is coming to the HTC One!!!

Hey guys!
According to https://plus.google.com/107979589566958860409/posts/8P9mVptPMF7 PA is coming to our HTC Ones!
I used this rom on my Nexus 4 and I loved it! As I switched to the One due to the lack of LTE on the N4,
I started missing those cool features such as the custom dpi, the pie and most of all Halo! I know there is
P.A.Cman rom, but Halo is not implemented yet..
You guys should definitivly give it a try when it's released. It's simply amazing!

Despise and have no use for Halo personally, but I loved PA on my N4. PIE was the best thing ever, only thing that made my N4 tolerable.
That said I don't see myself wanting to use pie now that I have a phone that has buttons again, though I most certainly will give it a whirl.

I do love Sense 5 but tbh, I never use the features that it offers over AOSP and I always find that AOSP has WAY more productive features on the custom ROM side then Sense ever will, obviously its opinionated and as I said Sense 5 is awesome! But I prefer AOSP ROM's just due to simple things like Halo or even just the stock messaging app and stuff.

I like Sense 5, but the one thing that stops me from using it is that it doesn't support landscape on the desktop. Super aggrivating. The apps that will allow you to force landscape aren't good at all for Sense either.
