My battery was draining fast today. I checked the battery stats and it said "Shell" was responsible for 66% of the battery usage. What is shell??
It is some application, I found it in App Ops and it did not use any permissions what so ever.

Interesting. I force stopped it. Would like to know what the heck it was doing. Haven't had any problem with battery drain since I did that.

Is anyone else losing 10 - 15% battery overnight?

Gotta figure out your wake locks. I lost 0-1% overnight last night.
Best bet is to download better battery stats and gsam battery info. Also CPU spy is helpful for figuring if your tablet is deep sleeping or not.

I've turned off NFC, Location Services and only sync the folders I need in Gmail and i'm down to about 5% overnight. I'll try setting the wifi to sleep when the screen is off and see how that goes.
How accurate are battery stats on the Nexus 10?
well recently i upgraded to android 4.3 by OTA and i have no problem just i notice a huge battery draining by hangout when I was using it and then it happened with google chrome.. they even had more battery usage than screen on even! is it happening for everyone or its just something for me?!
It is larger then the screen because you did not use the screen much.
Chrome is draining battery by using the sandbox process, you may force stop it.

Once I had lot of wake locks from hangout and plus, I just went to configurations and deselect the auto sync and then select again..
Battery drain stop after it.

the 1positive with mine so far is the battery. i go all day (12-14hrs) with moderate use and still have 30% charge when i plug it in.
That's terrible. You got an app freaking out. I noticed a huge drop in battery life when I put on a different sms app.

Install better battery stats.....maps and partial wakelocks seems to be killing you battery. BBS would give u a better indication of whats eating your battery

Not sure what the issue is yet, I was charging my phone. Now I took it off the charger and have better battery stats installed. I will monitor it and let you know.

Held awake for 3 hours because your screen was on for almost that long. Right?
Sent from my Nexus 4 using Tapatalk 4
one thing that really kills this battery is the setting under location access "wifi and mobile network location" if you have that enabled google services keep the phone awake and drain the battery. I disabled that and my battery last so much longer now.
Well guys, something is still eating my battery alive. I went to bed with over 40% battery and I woke up with 7% left.
Here are my screenshots from better battery stats. Can anyone figure out what's eating me alive?

NLP-Network Location Process-seems to be your biggest issue. My best bet would be settings>accounts>Google>google+>location

Yeah, good tip. If that doesnt work, go to Maps and disable history and location reporting as well. Might want to disable Wifi and mobile network location under the global location settings as well. This prevents other programs from eating up battery trying to access location when GPS is off. Restart your phone after diasbling any of these, then check battery life

Lol nice. The only complaint that I have about this is that I had to turn off every single location based setting in the phone. I've never had to do that on my previous phones. It never drained like this on my S4 with those settings on.
The root of my complaint is that I can't even get weather updates on my widget because it is all turned off. And I always like to have the weather widget on my main screen. Which single setting can I turn on to get weather updates? I will leave the other ones off.

Power management wakelocks in the kernel is a placeholder for partial wakelocks. Look at the partial wakelock list for details. I had a terrible *backup* partial wakelock that had a start count of 3000 within 8 hrs!!! It was killing my bat. Check yours, it might be that same if its not the location wakelocks acting up again
I'm not sure what's happening. My Nexus 7 remains idle most of the time, yet I get pretty bad battery drain and then when I check the battery history I see this. This happens during every battery drain.
Any ideas guys?

Wow, have never seen that on any device! Install Gsam or better battery stats if you are rooted to see what's going on. My best guess, it's a hardware issue.

Have you already tried reformatting? Kind of a pain, but that's the only thing I can think of.
Try contacting Google or the seller they might give you a replacement.

That happened to me once or twice. These spikes are only visible on the battery graph in settings app. I use an alternative battery monitor app from Google play and it does not show any spikes. Also battery life seems pretty in line with what other people report. I simply ignore them since they do not seem to affect battery life.
Could it be caused by the wireless charging functionality being triggered by other electronic devices in house?
I saw the same problem in the G+ community there, but it's Gelexy Nexus which updated to Android 4.3 recently

Yes, but the screen shot shows 2 days of battery , and he don't use the tablet
If I have a Light use I have battery to 4 Or 5 days...
I advise you to factory reset with the battery charged

Hey everyone,
My Nexus 7 (2013) is having the same problem with battery graph. There are about 2-3 spikes to 100% in every discharge cycle.
I noticed this problem has been reported in different cycles, but no one seems to be able to give a definite answer of what the source of this problem is.
BTW, after a reset to factory settings, the problem still persists.
ANY idea why this is happening???

Anybody notice a strange battery drain after some app updates? I don't know which app is causing this because it's not showing in battery stats.
The battery used to be able to last all day with no problem, but is now struggling to.
Android OS and System are both at 18% and 19% and 7 other entries are between 3-5%.
Only thing changed I believe was that I updated some apps along the way and noticed this drain maybe 2 days ago.

Install GSAM battery monitor. It is useful even for non rooted devices. Note 3 has strange battery statistics. What I see in GSAM makes much more sense and alike all previous androids i have owned.

I noticed this too. However I've read that the recent Hangout update is causing battery drains but Google has fixed it and another update should be out soon.
