disable airplane mode confirmation? - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Now I cant be the only want who would want this.
I live in the NYC area and I like to turn on airplane mode when I go into the subway, so I tend to turn it on and off 4 times a day. I also tried to set up a tasker profile to turn on airplane mode at a certain time at night, but because of this confirmation dialog this cant be done. So is there a way to turn off this confirmation.

This would be awesome. I use Airplane mode for a different reason.... areas around me (like a 20min or so drive) have LTE but not *officially* yet so it is a little flaky... and I use Airplane mode to toggle on and off really quick and it switches me to 4G LTE that isn't even officially turned on in the area!

Any one know of a program that can automatically turn off my internet, location settings from set times??
The reason I ask is because in the night I don't need weather updates, emails or the phone to be stay connected (t-mobile UK) and so I manually turn it off. Thus it will save a lot of battery and will not interrupt my sleep
If there was a program that could turn off at say 1am and then on again at 9am that would be perfect.
Is this possible or am I clutching at straws??
There's a simple solution of switching on Airplane mode in the Comm Manager before you go to bed and back on in the morning. That's all I do. Not sure if there's a program to do it automatically, but this way only takes a couple of seconds each day.
Hope I've helped!
Theres an app called GAlarm (it cost 4.99 euros i think but you can download trial) which when you set your alarm at night you can turn airplane mode on and when you turn the alarm off in the morning it will automatically turn the airplane mode off.
Thanks for the suggestion guys.
The problem with that is that I didn't want to put it into airplane mode just in case someone calls my late at night, some sort of emergency???
But sometimes I get emails late at night (because of people in different time zones) and so I wouldn't like to be woken by that. A phone call I wouldnt mind.
You have to install GProfile. I think it's free. Ask Google (xor bing ).
SBSH do PhoneWeaver and SPB software do Phone Suite both of which can do all you ask (and more)

It wouldn't hurt if you'd give us some kind of clue what features "they" are.
I'm sure plenty of people won't bother clicking the links..

lol really? .... airplane mode turns off ALL phone radios.
Thanks for the love (these are my issues), but it's too little too late. Android has written us off and closed the issue again.
I'm giving up on this one and won't be opening a replacement issue. Clearly the Android team has some hidden agenda (my guess would be a carrier wants to stop users from doing this) and is acting shady about it.
Game over.

airplane mode will not disable wifi. after enabling airplane mode you can connect to a wifi connection. airplane mode is to disable cellular connections...for airplane travel.

Airplane mode disables ALL radios, the permission in question allowed you to keep voice on and data off.
Voted.

That's funny, last time I flew American, I had my phone in airplane mode, but was still able to connect to wifi. As a matter of fact, I'm sitting in my house with airplane mode on and connected to my wifi network as I'm typing.
I understand that the option is to keep data off and voice on, but don't be such a jerk about something.
Wifi mode gets turned off, but can easily be turned back on even while airplane mode is on.
This topic has nothing to do about wifi! No one cares what you can and can't do... it's about turning off the 3g radio for better battery life and leaving voice on still.

[Q] Time Based Flight Mode APP

Hi Guys,
I work at location just outside of signal reception, therefore while I'm at work for 12 hours my phone hunts for reception and uses more power than it should.
I'm looking for a time based profile app that I can set and it will switch to flight mode at a certain time and then switch off flight mode at a predefined time and maybe even use it at night while in bed sleeping.
Anyone have any recommendations for the best one to go with?
Sorry if this is in the wrong forum, if it is you can all take an open shot at me.
Cheers
I'm actually really interested in an app like that too, most of my classes are in the basement of my school and it's kind of a pain to switch into airplane mode everytime I go to one of the said classes, and if I forget my phone easily eats through 20% of my battery...

This is the closest I have found:
https://market.android.com/details?id=be1ay.flymode&feature=related_apps
but maybe the ability to set more than one profile would be good so you don't have to go in and change the settings, plus one that boots with the phone?

Screen on with no reason and battery drains...

i have read an old thread with a similar, not solved, problem, but i didn't wanted to write in a so old thread...
so...
when the wifi radio is on, my iconia a500 suddendly turns on the screen and it stays on also for various minutes, sometimes i guess also until the battery is completely finished (i have found more than once the tablet off because of battery drained in the morning, so i guess it was with screen on all night long)
this happens also if i set wifi to go off when display is off.
i have tried many different roms (taboonay, lightspeed ... and now i have thor rom 14.2, installed yesterday) but the problem is always here.
if i manually turn off wifi, this seems to never happen... or at least it never happened while i was watching the tablet during the last months
does anybody knows a solution, a hint... or anything that could be helpful to make this issue less annoying?
thanks!

You might have a program installed that is constantly calling for wifi access?
That's the only thing I can think of?
On my Rom, I haven't ever experienced that problem.
My settings are as follows:
Airplane mode on
Wifi On
Wifi disconnect policy: when screen turns off.
also when i just turn it on it happens, even with no services or program needing wifi...
but you gave a me a good idea to try...
i will put airplane mode on and check what happens now
and anyway, i'll check again my programs

If airplane mode is turned on doesn't that over ride the wifi on setting?
So if airplane mode is on wifi will always be off so the disconnect setting has no bearing.
Can someone please confirm above or explain..
thanks
no, you can put airplane mode and then turn on wifi
and seems like it is working well... but i don't want to talk too early...

Yes, but for some strange reason it helps with the wake up problem some have
That's what I was getting at - when airplane mode is turned on it overrides all other settings and wifi can not be engaged in any way until it (airplane mode)is turned off.
Yup I was just answering Spud
Airplane mode only refers to the 3g/4g cell radio (so it turns off wireless network data/phone calls/texts etc.). You can still turn on wifi and use it when airplane mode is on because this is a different radio (well in the a500 there is no 3g radio). After all many airplanes now have wifi on board, however you're still supposed to have it airplane mode.
Thanks.
I haven't been able to turn in wifi with airplane mode on - it takes a longer push (hold) on the wifi button to engage.
I now have wifi on with airplane mode on - didn't realize airplane didn't also disable wifi.

Incorrect! You turn Airplane Mode on, which turns off wifi, then turn on wifi with Airplane Mode still turned on (and airplane mode stays on with wifi turned on as well).
after some days trying i have noticed that putting in airplane mode solves the problem...
but not always the tablet turns off wifi and stay in airplane mode when i turn off the display, it is surely some annoying app (or widget) that makes this happen.
i'm trying to understand which one

The only way to do that is process of elimination. Knocking out the variables one by one until you find the culprit, which has the potential to be a long, painstaking process. Start by uninstalling, one by one your apps that require internet access, and wait a couple days In between each one to see how your tab reacts. Then again, it may be an app that you wouldn't think needs wifi access to work, but in the background is calling for access.
Good luck with it!

Well there you have it.
All stock based ROMs allow it to be done.

[Q] Is there a way to just turn off cell but keep wifi on?

Kind of hard to explain what I want, but when I'm outside using my phone, and then come inside the house I want to keep the wifi on, but turn off the cell antenna to save battery (I find with just wifi on, the battery lasts a long time). I know I can do this by checking airplane mode, but then that turns off wifi, and I have to re-enable wifi, sort of a 3-4 key stroke that I'm wondering if I can do in one?
I've tried power toggles, but couldn't see the option for what I want to do with it.
You could use an app like Tasker, or Automateit (<---has free and paid version). You could have it execute a task when you enable AP mode that turns wifi back on. You can get pretty creative with the tasks as well. I haven't set it back up on my N4, but on my previous phone my need to enable/disable anything was nearly eliminated.
Thanks CMNein, I'll have a look at Tasker.
NFC tags.... I use Samsung Tectiles
You can Program a tag to go into airplane mode and turn wifi on

See if Plane Mode Tweaker works for the Nexus 4. https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.wordpress.chislonchow.airplanemodetweak
It allows you to configure airplane mode so it won't disable wifi automatically. Also allows you to use bluetooth in airplane mode if it's locked.
I've read that apps to control airplane mode don't work, at least with the stock firmware.

I'm still using an HTC Sensation, but I've got a battery of apps to automate turning airplane mode and wifi on when at home, and back off when away.
