Been running WMWifiRouter on my HD2 (TMo, WM6.5) for over a year with little problem, serving as my home computer's Internet connection. Just bought a Viewpad 7, and want to serve its wifi connection similarly. Nothing I can do on either device causes the HD2 wifi hotspot to be seen by the Viewpad 7. I also downloaded and tried the XDA's WiFiRouter, with same results. The Viewpad 7's wifi is working fine - - it can see lots of other wifi hotspots. Any suggestions?

I just got this answer from a similar post on PCCGeeks forum:
your windows mobile creates adhoc WiFi, which supported by full blown OS, like windows xp. android does not recognize this type of network. however, iOs devices can see ad hoc.
the only tablet on the market that can see the network created on your hd2 is the iPad Oh. Darn. That is bad news. Hmmm... what if I changed my HD2 to run Android (I see lots of forum activity that seems to say that is superior and relatively easy to do, am I right?) If I do that, is there an Android app for the HD2 that would create a wifi hotspot that the Viewpad 7 can see? Surely there's a solution for these 2 pieces of hardware. I'd rather not have to get a SIM with cell phone service for the Viewpad 7, because that's a $30+ a month "solution".
I have my wonderful Nexus 7. I have my wonderful HTC HD2, which has a Wi-Fi Router capability. I use the router for my laptop from time to time. I'm not happy with current phone offerings due to pathetic battery and storage options, and unwilling to carry around even more spare batteries, hence the N7 was a stop-gap with more modern capabilities and a larger screen.
My N7 cannot even see the router. If i install software from the App Store, it can see there is a router but has a dash for the channel number, and a question mark for the strength. Nothing I can do will get it to connect.
My N7 happily connects to my home wi-fi and to hotspots when out and about.
1. Does anyone know of a way to connect my N7 to my HD2?
(If I installed Android on it, would it connect?)
2. Which phones has anyone successfully connected via to successfully use the N7 when outside the range of a land based Wi-Fi?
I have been able to connect to my friend's Samsung Galaxy S2 using its hotspot.
I use a Widgetsoid2 switch on my Optimus-v. My n7 connects with no problem. I seldom use it though since I have WiFi at home and work.
Mine connects to my Samsung Focus Mango WM7.5 phone with internet sharing via WiFi switched the on. I had to dev unlock the phone to side load a few .xap fiiles in order to hack it and add the internet sharing option, as in was never enabled in the last update - works like a dream!
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
I use my little Wildfire running CM7 with WiFi hotspot activated, works where ever I go
I use my xperia S to connect to the internet .
I use bluetooth to connect to nexus 7 . Not sure what is the maximum speed tho .
If you have 1Mb data plan recommend you to use bluetooth thertering .
Android 2.3 above suport sharing internet . So you might want to find a stable ICS room for HD2 if you wan to do so .

Thanks for that info.i have looked several times at flashing the phone wih somethong other than windows mobile, but never pluckex up the courage. Dont want to have to reinstall everythingif i dont like it or it is lacking. Eg some did not have the camera.
Just to say I have exactly the same problem - turn HD2 router function on, can be seen by all PCs around - but not by Nexus 7 - 'not in range'
Bluetooth connection does not work either AFAIK ... so tethering is out.
hd2 propably has adhoc sharing, nexus7 support only infrastructure, so it won't work. I have the same problem with my nokia n9
apologies if this has been addressed, i'm trying to determine if there is a fix for the nexus 7 being able to connect to adhoc networks. i came across this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1787680&page=1 but it ends about a month ago with no real resolution. this is a major concern for me, i've already returned one phone because it would only transmit adhoc. i need to be able to tether my nexus 7 for work purposes and i'm stuck with my old optimus v unless there is a fix. thanks!
I just installed cm-10.1-20130719-NIGHTLY on my 8gb Nexus 7 (wifi only)
I was told that this ROM had the ability to connect to ad-hoc but I am unable to see my ad-hoc network from the nexus 7. Can anyone help? I have read many threads but they are all a year old or older and nothing seems to be working...
Hey Guys,
I know already about some threads about that, however, I'm searching for a possibility to be able to connect to a Ad-Hoc network.
I'm using a Google Nexus 4 with the current Android version (KitKat 4.4.2). Even though i can't see the Ad-Hoc network which i createt. (Laptop can see it)
I created the Ad-Hoc network with my jailbroke iPad (so please don't post the solutions with windows) I searched a few days now but don't know what is actually working.
- wpa_supplicant for nexus 4?
- any ROM supporting it? (with Kernel?)
- any App/Mod activating it?
Would be nice if somebody could say something about it.
Greetings.
