I miss this forum and my Epic - Epic 4G General

I moved on to an S3 and the experience has not been the best.
Really thinking about returning to the Epic.
*sigh* those were good times.

If it's the same J O who mods the S4 forum, he couldn't moderate a bunch of 4 year olds.
Wait a minute. The last couple of days he has had to moderate a bunch of 4 year olds. Those idiots make looney/drunk and He Who Shall Not Be Named seem almost normal.

Porting from CDMA to GSM is always a bit...uh PITA. But if you find a friendly dev or themer there who can put all the same mods into the ROM and then just translate the Aroma script and copy over the pngs you would basically have a T-Mobile TPR.

It depends. Usually for the same device, it works fine. Nexus s to nexus s 4g took about 3 files changed. You'll need to change build prop, apns, and any ril binaries. Other than that, everything should be compatible in the framework. All the sprint stuff should be there. Good luck!

I kept my Epic longer than any phone ever, 2 years 3 months, just switched to the HTC One after my Epic screen broke it was time to make a switch. Thanks to all the devs and folks here in the forum for making the Epic stay current and functional for so long.

Ever getting gingerbread?

I know there's a bunch of different threads of people speculating and rumoring about gingerbread, but I thought it'd be a good idea to try to make a central one. I know the chances of getting an official release are slim but if you see any news, rumors, announcements, tweets, carrier pigeons, or messages in a bottle, post them here.

I know I should be insulted, but that's damn funny, lol. (I also need 10 posts to be able to ask a question in the dev section, so there!)
How many times has this question been asked.
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I'm not so much asking as much as trying to give a place for people to go to in the future. I'm sure we're never getting official gingerbread, so this is more of a place for people to put what's up and coming, most in roms I assume. just tired of scrubbing through tons of threads when there can be 1 central idea.
Jeez! Just trying to do a public service! lol

Part of the reason there is a 10 post requirement is to give you the time to learn that this is exactly what you don't do in the development section.

I got a smoke signal. It said that gingerbread was coming to the epic on 4-20. Or it said gingerbread was epicly tasty at 4:20. I couldn't tell. I wasn't a very good scout.

hypothetically since typically a device gets 1 maybe 2 updates and there was a boost mobile galaxy s being released with 2.2 if it gets the standard 1 or 2 updates that would but it at 2.3 then would it not be quite simple to port it over to the epic??? i know it is a lot of ifs but a thought maybe
Cyanogenmod 7 alpha3, get it now in the dev area.....
Its based on Android 2.3.3 so I think it will curb your hunger for gingerbread...
I always Do research before asking question.
But I also think I'm the master of everything so I could be all wrong.....haha
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
While I hope the epic will get Cyanogen because I don't much like the idea of being dependent on Sprint and Samsung there is a leaked gingerbread rom for the Galaxy S so I think there is a possibly in the far distant future.

We will never see an official Samsung gingerbread release. The closest we will get is surely cyanogen and that isn't far from us.
We wont see it officially, and if we do, it will be when this phone has 1 dev left.

I'd like to introduce myself.

Hi there, I'm anything but new here, however this is one of the only times I've posted so I hope this doesn't go ignored. I've been lurking for several months now, and this entire community has added a lot of enjoyment to my life. I guess I've just always been a bit apprehensive about posting, just because I've never known what to say. Well, I've recently discovered I've got quite a knack for customization, something I've never taken the time to sit down and work on before. Well, this week I've been on spring break in the mountains somewhere, without a computer or even a very fast data connection. Bored out of my mind, I decided to sit down and rearrange my epic's homescreens. This ended up turning into a multi-day project with numerous hours being contributed. Anyways, this is getting a little long, but my phone is now the most incredibly productive yet simplistic beast I'm proud to say I created. I'd really like to share my work with this community and hopefully help other people if they were so inclined. I'm slowly getting into theming, and I just wanted everyone to know. This community is amazing, and I'm excited to (hopefully) be a part of it. I'll post screenshots soon, haha.
Edit: Here's my main screen, I hope it's not too overwhelming lol

I'd like to try out AOKP as soon as I get back to a connection that's faster than 200kb/s.

Your order has been cancelled

I had this phone on pre order since around the 25th of June, coming from a Galaxy Nexus to a phone from Samsung which I thought had a good history of not completely ruining their devices, and now hearing the news I have cancelled my order and will wait until this issue is bypassed/fixed. I will stay with my Galaxy Nexus which is completely open.

You do realize that it most likely wasnt samsung's fault considering it was released globally and on all other US carriers unlocked.. So dont blame Samsung.. Blame your carrier.. Yes,the nexus is open but that's because it's a google device. I'm sure if Verizon could have locked that baby up they would have but I'm sure they had an agreement to keep it open if they were going to offer the device.
so you should change that to say because of "Verizons poor decisions"
I'm so confused.

Mortify ROM Review

l am about 5 hours into it now. Very smooth and slick. Everything (camera, flash, 4g,hotspot,tether...) seems to work so far with one exception. I havent been able to receive MMS picture messages thus far. Though the phone I tested it with is a Nexus S 4g running CM7.2 RC2, which hasnt been 100% reliable sending MMS. I have also had this problem on CM7.1, 7.2 RC1,2, and 3, and CM9. it works stock and on clean GB. so obviously this is par for the course in my experience.
Sprint network optimizer is a nice touch.
Overall the ROM feels very stock (mix GB/ICS stock). Im glad to find my sprint dialer codes are back with this one. (just had to dial ##8778# for diag instead of *#*#8778#*#*) I miss the settings utop the notification panel, al la ICS.
overall Im pretty pleased. Ill stick with this one for a while and report back and issues I find.
Has anyone got any ideas concerning picture MMS?
This belongs in general there is nothing in this thread that states a question or anything that can solve a question just saying

It's a good ROM but I've had a few problems with it.
One issue, for me at least, seems to be memory leaks. There have been many times where the phone is kinda laggy or apps just force close. I've reflashed & everything but I've had better luck with cleanGB. Like they say; every phone is different.
It is a good ROM, though. It looks nice.
