Hello all
Like most AT&T users I recently received the notification for an update to Android 4.3. I'm currently on 4.2.2 MF3. I rooted using the guide here.
My question is this: is it safe to do the OTA update without any preparation? Will all of my settings/apps remain intact? Will I run into any issues as a result of being rooted? I assume the root will not remain after the update, so it is possible to root on the 4.3 OTA update?
Thanks in advance guys
Hello together,
I have a short question.
Would it be possible to update to Kitkat when i have rooted my G2?
I would only do a root like in this discribtion: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2448887
No other Rom or costum recovery.
Thanks
yes
AFAIK, root access does not prevent OTA update success, but if you have a custom recovery installed, OTA update will fail.
Hi,
Currently a relative of mine has a S4 unlocked here in Canada, but it is the AT&T Variant (SGH-i337). His phone is rooted, but before I rooted, I tried updating through OTA to Kitkat but the Software Updater tells me there are no available updates. I've also tried connecting it to Kies but it tells me to update via OTA. How can I update his phone to Kitkat? He's currently on Rogers Wireless and is currently using Android 4.3. Also once I update it, is there a way to root it again without tripping knox or voiding the warranty?

Read the return to stock section of All things ATT thread.
There are 2 versions of kitkat. One that ends with NB1 and the other is NC1 (newer).
If you want to get to NC1, you will have to flash NB1 first (or update to NB1) and then update to NC1.
There are 2 firmware versions for NB1 - one is rootable and other is not (but can be updated to NC1 and then rooted).
You would root it using towelroot (just google for this).

Hi Everyone,
Has anyone figured out how to update your phone to latest ATT patch for stagefright, and keep root, when you have a locked bootloader?
I'm using Muniz_ri's solution from April and am on Lollipop.
Thanks,
I'd like to see this too.
I've just disabled auto retrieve MMS for now and will not open one from an unknown number.
I was using the stock rooted oc3 and just took ota worked fine and still have root
Hello,
I am running an SM-G930P with Nougat PLN firmware. I downgraded it to PK1 Marshmallow firmware to root it, and used this root method: https://idoneapps.com/forum/index.php?topic=616.0
It worked perfectly. However, when I tried to use the Nougat update file, it said it was corrupt. When I tried to root it in Nougat, it began bootlooping. Is there any way to root it in Nougat? All I need to really know is how to install TWRP.

There's not a way to root on Nougat yet, especially since it's on a beta firmware. TWRP isn't available on U.S Snapdragon Galaxy S7's as our bootloaders are locked.

What if I downgrade to Android 6.0.1 PL6 firmware, download the firmware file and flash it via FlashFire?

You'd want to downgrade to PL6 and the flash the unlocked PL2 to root, but TWRP still isn't possible.
as many have said. ZERO TWRP UNTIL BOOTLOADER GETS UNLOCKED (which probably won't happen) /thread closed
