I live in Pakistan
I have a I9500. I bought this phone a couple of weeks before.
My phone came with the built in XXUAMDK.
I know there is a XXUAMEA update as my brother has a s4 and he got the update in June.
I connected my device to kies and that too notifies me that i have the latest firmware installed.
My device has a stock rom and it is not rooted. I know i can install rom through odin but i would like to know why dont I get the updates?

yes the latest firmware for PAK is MEA http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9500&pcode=PAK#firmware
it is weird! you must receive it unless you had modify something in system, recovery....
if you boot into download mode, does it say official?

Im new to andorid, i used to do all kinds of experiments on iphone.
But, ive tried hard resetting my phone but still this.
I went to the service centre and they told me that the updates are directly linked to samsung. We cant help until and unless you want us to manually upgrade the firmware.

Did you buy the phone new or from somebody else? It might work to reflash the rom you have now with Odin, do a data factory reset and see if the phone gets updated.

Save yourself from the Kies agony and flash the rom with Odin bro, takes about 5-10 minutes and you`re done. Better than asking and posting questions for days or weeks. Just my 2 cents

8 months ago I got my Sprint S4 i9505. I installed CyanogeMod when they released that "1-Click Root" app. So here I am today about 8 months of using cyanogenmod and I've went back to stock. I used Odin and installed the original stock firmware 4.2. Odin said everything was successful.
I'm trying to update to 4.4 KitKat then have it rooted but I have a problem. I'm on stock 4.2.2 right now but the Wi-Fi isn't turning on. "Prevention Information" is keeping it from turning on.
I don't know where to go from here because I have a feeling that something else is wrong. Maybe the "baseband" or "kernal" version is wrong? I have no idea and anything I do further will either mess things up further or brick it. Should I install KitKat using Odin and hope everything gets fixed?
I am a complete noob! I do not feel like going thru hours of research and understanding definitions in hopes of finding out my problem. I beg someone knowledgeable to get me out of this situation ASAP. I have paypal money, whatever it takes.
Here is my info: 4.2.2 - baseband L720PUAMF9 - Kernal 3.4.0-442222
Ripping my hair out kind of feeling...I absolutely hate dealing with this **** anymore. never again.
Please, help me out if you understand your way around this stuff.

Yes, yes you should.
Go to Sammobile.com and download latest 4.4 KitKat firmware.
Boot to your custom recovery and format system, Cache and Data.
Then POWER OFF your device.
Boot back up into download mode.
Flash 4.4 firmware with Odin (lots of info online to do this)
Once flashed boot into stock recovery and perform a factory reset.
You should be good to go.
P.S- don't bump threads more than once in 24 hours.

That didn't work out so well, did it? That is why we should always make a backup.. that we can restore if things go wrong.
If you can't replace the items that you deleted, then you need to use Odin ( or Kies would probably work too) to reinstall a full stock firmware to fix your system. A factory reset only reverts user settings, it does not restore crucial system apps that have been deleted. Reinstalling the full firmware will replace the missing apps.

1. You can restore a backup if you made one.
2. You can replace the system apps that you deleted if you retained copies of them.

Hopefully this is not the case with yours.

Well I bought it from amazon. It seemed legit and it looks legit for the most part except the sticker on the inside behind the battery where it says g900f is in Chinese and I heard its not supposed to be.
And I teamviewed with gee , he made sure everything in Odin was set up correctly. It was, we thought maybe the file was corrupt so I download it again from another source and it didn't help.
Any ideas on how I can fix this assuming it is not. Fake?

5) Connect USB data cable to Phone. The ID:COM box will highlight and turn to a bluish color when the phone is properly connected and already recognized with Odin.
6) Tick the ‘START’ button when all is set and ready to begin flashing.
7) DO NOT Interrupt, touch nor do anything when the phone is already in flashing progress mode. You’ll messed up the phone if you accidentally interfere the installation. Wait until a word “PASS” appears on the left side of the Odin screen, it is an indication that the installation successfully completes. (If you get failed errors, check the USB connection condition, repeat the whole process)
8.Wait until the phone completely reboots, then unplug it from PC.
Do factory reset again after flashing.
This is only optional just in-case you’ll experience bootloop and lag issues after flashing.
Press and hold Volume Up+ Home+Power button, then select the Wipe Data/Factory Reset, to gain a fresh firmware installed.

Haha, I wouldn't say the ONLY way but yes, it is the easiest and most common way indeed. And probably the only safe way.

If you want to " unroot" it you should try using an original Samsung N8013 firmware.

Hello everyone
Please bear me with me for I am a dinosaur that grew up with Symbian phones, then was forced to use Windows phones and now recently converted to Android, therefore not an expert in this field.
Bought the Note 4 off ebay in UK. Mobile banking app and Android Pay say my phone is rooted however Root Checker says it isn't . I have tried to update to Marshmallow through ODIN but I get the FAIL Auth error every time I try...
In settings the phone shows up as N910F however it is a N910V ... I do need help to figure out the precise model though just to make sure I am installing the correct software.
Also, I am using a Lebara SIM card (partners with Vodafone) here in UK, not sure if that matters.
Would really appreciate if someone would have the patience to guide me how to install Marshmallow on my phone, I just want a clean one and no rooting. Tried different tutorials on the internet but none worked for me or I am surely doing something wrong.
Many thanks in advance!
Andy

Hi Andy I'm also in the UK with note 4. To find out the correct model you need to boot to download mode. Power off the phone, Hold volume down + home + power together. It will boot to download mode and from there it will show you the model.
Post your correct model here and I will post the firmware with the correct steps to flash.
Hi Callum
In download mode it says N910V

Ahh you have the verizon varient.

Here is the stock marshmallow firmware for your device.
Download and unzip the firmware. Place it in odin in AP. In odin options enable auto reboot and uncheck repartition. Put phone in download mode, connect to pc and start.
Thanks for the firmware , that worked like a charm. Is it possible to install a non-Verizon version on this phone? One that does not have the Verizon preloaded apps?
Also, do you know anything about the Note 4 getting the Nougat update?

You can only flash firmware for your device which is N910V. Which means unfortunately you can only flash verizon firmware. However you can root your phone and use titanium backup to remove the bloat.
As for the N update I have read and heard rumours that we will get it but I don't have my hopes up. Even though the Note 4 is 2 years old it's still a high end device. It hasn't been officially announced yet. Only been announced for s6/s7 and future releases

1st download the firmware.
Download odin, latest version is fine but I use v3.10.6
On phone settings go to about device, tap build number 7 times until developer options is there, go on developer options and enable USB debugging.
Plug phone to pc to make sure drivers are up to date.
Once firmware is downloaded unzip it.
Power off phone and put into download mode, vol down + home + power.
Open odin and click AP, insert the firmware. Odin options should be, re partition UNCHECKED, auto reboot checked, f reset time checked.
Plug phone into pc, in odin log it will say added with blue box saying com:3 or similar.
Press start and it will flash and reboot. The first boot can loop a few times or hang on the Samsung logo for a little while it's normal.
If it hangs for more than 15 minutes remove the battery for a few minutes then power on again and it will boot.
If you get any errors or are unsure let me know.
