Hi guys, I really need some advice on this one otherwise I wouldn't be posting it here. I read a similar thread before but I wanted to ask something else too.
I own a 17'' laptop and a Galaxy Note 2 (I use it a lot for work, those 5.5'' really help me) and never considered a tablet until the Nexus 7 came out, basically because of the price. However since I had previously a Note "1" I thought that 5'' vs 7'' wasn't much of a difference and the screen issues pulled me off. Now that a 32gb is basically confirmed and at the same price as the 16gb I am again (and this time seriously) considering it. I live in South America so I can't rely on warranty, 15 days return or stuff like that. I buy from amazon/ebay and that's it. I get what I get, I fix it if it has a fixable issue.
TL;DR:
1) Were the screen issues just a first batch problem or are they still as common as when the N7 launched? I don't mind a DIY fix though.
2) From 5.5'' should I really go the extra mile to 7''? I want to surf the web, check news and mails basically. No need for 3G data.
3) Should I consider a 10'' tablet instead, even at a higher price? For the record my GF iPad 2 doesn't inspire me at all but maybe because of iOS.
Thanks in advance. I really want a taste of Paranoid Android on a Nexus 7. Loved it on the Note 1 and can't wait for it to arrive on the Note 2 if ever.
I think you are misusing the word "need" here. If you have a laptop, and a 5" screen phone, I would say that you have zero "need" for the n7
Why don't you wait til the Nexus 10" is released. It would probably be better than a 7" considering that you have a note

Skip the N7. I have a GS3 and N7 - concerning the N7, other than light kindle use, I can rarely think of a "need" for it.
Thanks for your POV, it really helps me. The reason I am considering the N7 is basically price. I don't like to pay 500 bucks for a tablet, that's why I don't have one. But put 250 for a really good one and things start looking different. Sometimes I want a bigger screen to check the news, read ebooks, and my laptop is too big (17'' is OK as a desktop replacement, not so fun when you just want to hang around your house or read on the couch) and my Note maybe too small, that's where a 7'' would enter. I'll wait, I have no rush, see what the Note 10 brings to the table in terms of specs and price. But I value your opinions.
Does anyone know if the screen issues have been resolved (first batch problem) or still persists in new shipments? Thanks a lot for your answers and please forgive my english

I have a GS3 as well and the note 1 is way bigger than our 4.8" screen.
Definitely don't see a need for a n7 if you have a Note π.
Now a 10 tablet....maybe.

Yes,he said that.
He actually went on ahead n posted that his damn 5.5" 720p screen is too small.
No,seriously.
THIS. IS. NEXUS.
Wait to see if the nexus 10 is announced on the 29th

As a Note 2 owner, I'm waiting for the 29th announcements and then I'll decide. I'd prefer to get a 10" nexus tablet since I have a 5.5" phone.

I think you should wait for the Nexus 10. I have a Nexus 7 now but I plan on getting the Note 2 after its released here in the US and sell my Nexus 7 and get the Nexus 10 when it comes out.
Thanks guys. I'll wait for the October 29th anouncements and then decide. You've been very helpful =)
P.S: 5.5'' is superb for a samrtphone, not so great for ebook readings. You always want something bigger
Hi,
I wondering why there was no announcement about the Q yesterday.
Didn't they want to overwork it? I am a little bit disappointed because a Q would be a great Device to connect my nexus devices with my TV.
Hopefully they work on it at the moment and release many Q´s with the next announcement.
Best Regards
Tobias

I hope they haven't abandoned it. I thought it would be very popular. I was gonna buy one, maybe two or three for the house. Why would/are Google drop/ping it?

I have 2, wanting two more and I wish it would take off, but early reviews said for $300 it should do a lot more. If they could talk amazon into supporting it it could take off. Netflix would be happy to support. They already have remote/server capability. We shall see. I just want it to do that seamless playback they showed off at io.
Haven't see it mentioned elsewhere so consider it unverified.
RIP, Google Nexus Q (UPDATED)
Good point. His second update, the response from Google, seems to suggest that it is still considered a delay. Maybe Christmas? I dunno. I may start playing with your rom.
Hopefully with the release of the Nexus 10 and 4 tomorrow, they can implement some type of miracast support, where the Q will function as the miracast dongle for those devices.
So instead of this, at least with youtube, googletv now does what the Q does. Youtube update
Actually, I wouldn't be all too surprised to see that el Goog is tending to shift more towards Google TV than Nexus Q.
The Nexus Q is a very unique piece of hardware but it might be that the general public find it a bit difficult to embrace the Q compared to the Google TV which brings another, I would dare say more complete, Android experience.
I'm an owner of the Q myself and I must say I totally dig this extraordinary piece of hardware but it's getting a lot less love from Google than I would have wished.
It's hard enough to get the app for a mobile device here in Sweden (could someone please verify that 1.0.8.393535 is the latest version of the app?) and the very limited services (youtube and music are the only ones I've been able to use so far) makes it a very limited device to use.
I'm a fan of unlocked Android devices and a lot of the Nexus series have been delivering what I would expect. I just get a feeling that Google is shifting resources to other areas other than the Q. But I would really like to be proven wrong.

Google needs to be global with android. Its used globally. Good point.
The latest rev of the app is 1.0.8.406084 . I'll backup and root and try to get you the .all tomorrow.
Its funny that you say "only YouTube and music. " the only other service you get state side is movies.
Have you checked to see if you have the latest q software installed? ian67k?

It's starting to look like winter over here. It's been snowing practically all day and I'd say there are about 10cm on the ground.
Someone even went so far as to start celebrating New Year's by shooting firecrackers out on the yard.
Well guess I'll start this one. I am selling my tablet and buying a Nexus 7.
I've put it on Craigslist for $150 firm. I will miss the sd slot. Guess I will put my 32gb card in my note. This is a great community here and I love the official cm support but the Nexus has better. (Support, not community )

Just signed up for E-bay and hoping to get rid of my tab A.S.A.P n get me some A.O.K.P .....on a nice new shiny Nexus 7.
Selling for £100 (Paid £199 for it) and will be getting the 32GB WiFi only Nexus for £199...Yup same price as i paid for my SGT2 7~ P3110
The P3110 isnt a bad Tab , Just the Nexus 7 has more to offer and will have lots more coming its way this year. I'm really tempted to keep both, but do I need them both.
Anyone in London wants a cheap tab PM me lol. Be around for a week or two I guess ?
Its been fun
I would miss the IR blaster
Yeesh!
Scottx and Sean ..... sad to see two of our early and active tab users go. However, I cannot negate your feelings. I myself have been contemplating making this move as I use a galaxy nexus and to me , nothing beats vanilla android.
However , looking at the random hardware issues ( screen lift, sound etc) that people have been posting on the nexus 7 forum...I was not sure if it was worth the gamble. Am pretty sure Asus got their act together...but again...my head says stick with this. And am trying to convince myself that 6 more months and the next nexus tab may land ...
In Any case... Nexus 7 is the best bang for the Buck! It'll be fun.
Have a great life and thanks for sharing and assisting others.

Thanks for the kind words , means a lot
I really do like this tab and have enjoyed watching the development of this tab all the way. Testing out the ROMS all the devs have supplied for us , all the way from CM9 , CM10 , Romswells deodexed stock flavours ( fantastic work),The darkly delicious Baked ROMs and the awesome AOKP builds. Flashing stuff literally every day , customizing it and posting screens. Helping people out when I could was and still is fun.
Personally I just feel that I'm missing out on stuff that the Nexus has to offer, Being addicted to Android comes at a cost lol. I may even keep the tab and use it as a digital photo frame or get a dock and use it as an alarm clock so something. I have had so much fun using this tab and I would miss it in a way. The forum is one of the better ones on XDA for sure and has some great users and devs.
I thank and salute you all. Happy flashing
Hope you guys have better luck with the Nexus than I did. That was the biggest piece of crap I've ever owned. To compound the problem I talked my son into getting one soon after I did and now he's having the same problems I'm had. I practically gave mine away just so I wouldn't have to look at it any longer. I bet I turned the damn thing on 50 times a day after it would just shut down for no reason. Good Luck.
I traded my gt2 even up for a mint condition galaxy nexus gsm international version.
Now I'm selling the note and getting another tablet.
I miss it already though.
Goodbye guys. Thanks for the great times and chat. Take good care of that screenshot thread I made

Thanks man for the kind words. It's people like us that make this place what it is.
Loving this gnex. It runs so smooth. Can't wait to get a Nexus 7 to match. If I come across a good deal on another gt2 I'll buy it. I just couldn't pass this trade up. I really feel like I came out ahead on the deal. My tab was still mint even though I had it since May. That guy got a nice tablet. He might show up here. He had rooted the gnex and changed the kernel. I put 01-06-13 CM 10.1 on the tab and I figure he'll want to update it sooner or later.
Anyway. Take care everyone and feel free to pm me if needed!

First, the iPega: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/ipega-android-gaming-tablet-launching-in-may-video-18-04-2013/
Then the IbenX: http://www.geeky-gadgets.com/ibenx-gamepad-android-gaming-tablet-unveiled-15-04-2013/
I think the iPega would be better, with a very nice gamepad, and more portable. I think it would need a quad core processor to beat the IbenX and the upcoming Wikipad. Thoughts?
I like the ibenx better though id never buy either. The Ipega looks like it has a smaller screen and I don't like the awkward shape of it. But I wouldn't replace my play with either of those. Though I would if they made a phone like the party but with analog sticks like the vita instead of touch pads. It seems like these gaming tablets are popping up all over the place noire we just need to find the best one

It's too big, isn't it?
i dont think they are alternatives for xperia play in my opinion cause they lack the phone part,i m gonna be using play till it breaks up or if sony releases a new one :fingers-crossed:

I just ordered a JXD s7800B last week. Seemed like the best choice given what's out right now. I have no clue when I'll get it since there's no real info about an actual release date. I'm hoping sometime late next week, but we'll see. I'll try to post a video review when I get my hands on it and have some time to mess with it. Here's hoping it rules!
Wow Sony for such a lackluster phone I bought 2 years ago or so, I still wouldn't trade it for the latest and greatest out now
unfortinatlly , they arn't a phone ! just tablet !
if i want to carry a gaming handy console, i prefer ps vita or 3DS .
i' looking for gaming-phone device , like xperia play.
just " much i5 " remain . a gaming phone , but you know , that is chinese .... and ...
Great choice bro. :good: Do let me know how's the peformance and battery life when you get it. I'm really looking forward to your review. My only worries are whether they will release the codings or not haha as I'm quite fond with custom roms and kernels. It's very interesting to explore new possibilities after all.

Just wanted everyone to know that some videos were posted of the JXD s7800A (the weaker one), and it looks so freaking awesome. It seems to handle everything very well, and this is the weaker model. The device also goes portrait view no problem, which is totally sweet. Check this forum post http://boards.dingoonity.org/jxd-devices/jxd-s7800-quad-core-will-be-released!/ to see some vids of emulation, the unboxing, and some nice photos of the device. I bought my s7800B a few weeks ago, and apparently it's delayed, which sucks, but I'm willing to wait since this thing is going to rule so much. Enjoy! I'm stoked to get mine!

Awesome! Thank you for sharing. I will be taking a look at it.
The thing about the Xperia Play, is that it could switch from phone to PSP in a matter of seconds. These "Alternatives" are just android devices that were made for gaming, but do you really see yourself having a conversation with one of these things?

Yeah. The killer feature in the XP for me is that, when you hide the gamepad it's a smartphone like any other.
I don't see myself with a gamepad or handheld console style device as smartphone.
Some company should make something similar to the XP. I can't understand why there's nothing similar with so many Android devices released around the world and even an increasing number of Android gaming devices.

Couldn't agree more. xplay has been my one and only phone/gaming device. I could never see myself playing games using a touch screen. It's downright stupid. With all these andoird gaming devices I just cant see why none of em has tried to make a phone/gaming hybrid like the xplay.

Normally I'd say buy it but if you wait till fall there will be plenty of New tablets in the market to choose from and there are already new tablets out with the same resolution as nexus 10. The nexus 10 is still the best at its price though so if you want a Tablet now I'd buy it because this baby will still last fir a couple years for me at least 2. If you can wait though you'll probably find something better soon

Well for me the nexus 10 is great. It plays games awesome and movies look great in it. Just buy a pogo charger because stock charger is really slow and you'll be good to go with it.
