Is anyone else having issues receiving files, pictures, music etc...using S-BEAM/NFC? (I have both options selected)
I tried sending files from a GNII and a SIV to the N7.2 with no luck what so ever. When beaming the files to N7.2 I get a Play Store prompt and it eventually times out.
However sending files from the N7.2 I never have any issues.
Has anyone else experienced this?
S beam will have to be turned off when using the Galaxy s4 or S3. It works but you have to use regular NFC with devices that don't have s beam. If you are looking for something similar from Android to Android device try super beam. This application does the same thing similar to s beam.

I can't get my NFC to work at all. It is on in the settings but it won't recognize any NFC device when bumped (tried with old N7 and S4). I even used a reader app to read my credit card and it didn't even pick that up (which my GS4 did with the same app). So NFC seems to be the only thing wrong with mine. If there's a fix that doesn't require a return or sending it in, that would be great.
As stated... With any Samsung galaxy device s beam has to be turned off and NFC only turned on.

I turned off S Beam on the GNII and I was still not able to send picture using just NFC. I tried with S-Beam off and also with Android Beam off. With Android Beam off, it was really a no go. With Android Beam on, it would attempt to send the file, but the N7.2 would go to the Play Store, the same way it would with S-Beam on.
I am going to get my coworks GS4 and turnoff S-Beam to see if its an issue with my GNII.

On the Nexus 7 (2013), the NFC sensor is in the middle of the "nexus", in the same place as the wireless charging spot. On the Nexus 7 (2012) the sensor was towards the top of the device around where the "nexus" was. I have found the NFC signal to be exceptionally strong on the Nexus 7 (2013).
NFC from HTC one
Hi, I can use the same MiFare tags on either device but for the life of me cant get any connection between my HTC one and the Nexus 7 (2013). Its bothering me since I know both transceivers work. Is there some incompatibility? Before anyone replies, I am not a moron and yes all NFC options are turned on. I tried BT on/off too. I rebooted etc. Anyone?
I just tried using my coworkers GSIV and I could send a file from the N7.2 witout any issues. The phone actually had S-Beam on when I sent a file from the N7.2
I asked her to turn off S-Beam and to send me a picture from the GSIV. No good, the picture would not send. We turned S-Beam on and tried to send a picture and the Play Store option popped up on the N7.2.
Could it be that I just have a bad unit? I don't not have any other NFC enabled devices besides Galaxies devices around me lol...so I don't have any other way to test it out.
Sending from the N7.2 is great...receiving has been a failure using the GSIV & GNII.
Android Beam is built into every Android 4.0+ device with NFC. However, as of Android 4.1+, it can send photos and videos to other devices, so long as both devices have Bluetooth in addition to NFC. Simply open a photo or video in the gallery, put the devices back-to-back, and follow the beam procedure.
S-Beam is a proprietary implementation of this on certain Samsung devices, which predates 4.1's photo/video sending capabilities, and uses Wi-Fi Direct. Since it is uncertain if S-Beam disrupts the function of the Bluetooth-based Android Beam photo/video sharing, and only offers a few extra file sharing features, I would recommend turning it off, unless you have compelling reason not to.

Thank for the tip. Once I was able to find the "G Spot" I was finally able to send pictures and apps from my GNII to the N7.2!!! Now I just need to try out my NFC chips!!
Whew...I'm happy that its not my phone or the tablet...just took a more precise and gentle touch lol :highfive:

OK, so I have a Nexus 7 and a Galaxy S3. Both have NFC and it is turned on for each. Android Beam is also enabled.
I pull up a video on the S3 and bring it close to the N7 and the S3 video screen shrinks and the "Touch to Beam" prompt appears, so I tap the S3 screen. Then an animated graphic appears and the message "Ready to send files via S beam. Separate devices". In the status line on top of the S3 there is a downloading symbol flashing.
Then I slowly seperate the devices till they lay side by side. The S3 status line no longer shows a download and it continues to play the video; the N7 shows the message "New tag collected" and under it it says "text/directsharevideo". The N7 screen is unresponsive unless I use the home key to exit.
I have no evidence of anything actually being transmitted between the devices.
What am I doing wrong?
p.s. I did search both Google and XDA. If anyone can suggest a better search string than the title, please do.
I think you need JB for transmitting videos/images via NFC and the S3 is only rocking ICS.

I believe its to do with the tech they use to transmit after the NFC handshake.
GS3 uses WiFi to transmit and N7 used bluetooth.
I dont believe they are compatible, they can use tags no problem, but GS3 can only use NFC with other phones using WiFi Direct tech.

This is why Samsung made S-Beam on their s3 (NFC + Wifi Direct) so you can transfer any files you want, the only issue is both devices need to have s-beam.

Android Beam, from Jelly Bean upwards, uses NFC to initiate a Bluetooth connection. It's now possible to transfer larger files with Android Beam, though not as quickly as S-beam.

this was developed by yours truly, and I developed it exactly because I noticed there was nothing out there for WiFi Direct
I tested it between Nexus 7, Galaxy Nexus, Asus TF300 and Galaxy SII (stock ICS) and all worked fine.
The most problematic of those were the Galaxy Nexus that now always want to connect, but between N7-GalaxySII was flawless.
At the moment the app just works for photo and video but I'll be expanding more, if you guys fancy helping spreading the word about it, I'm really looking forward to see the downloads explode on it.

I got a new google nexus 7 two weeks back. The Android Beam worked fine with both tags and other devices.
All of a sudden it stopped working.
I remember that I kept on my DVD player for long.
No tags can be read or written apart from no NFC sensing with other devices.
How do I debug?
The kernel is 4.1.2. Please help. I am not sure if it is a hardware problem.

I tried to test it with tags and galaxy s3 which were working fine with my nexus 7.
All of a sudden NFC has stopped.

If convenient, just exchange it. Sounds like hardware failure.

Thanks that is the last resort. But was looking for some debug messages etc to verify the hardware failure so that the vendor is also convinced regarding the failure and provides the exchange.

Hello I'm new to the world of android but I was left to believe that all android devices had the ability to use WiFi direct but after getting the nexus 7 in the post yesterday I spent much of the night trying to get the nexus to send video to my TV and files to my Samsung galaxy s3 but all with no luck. they connected together but they just won't send files or video plus the WiFi direct icon in the drop down options is no longer there. Do I have a faulty nexus 7 or dose the nexus not have the** ability to use WiFi direct and if so will there be a fix for this problem? I no its a lot of questions but I'm stuck and I use WiFi direct a lot and I need this to work on my nexus 7 . so if anyone can help me I would be extremely grateful for your help. Thank you
AFAIK, the Nexus 7 doesn't support adhoc wifi, something to do with wpa_supplicant.
Nexus 7 needs software to support the this. Samsung wrote their own for S beam. Don't know of any third party apps that are compatible with s beam.

Thanks for your help people but I have fund a fix for my problem of sending video to my TV from my nexus 7 . I remembered I payed for a app from Google play about a year ago called imediashare I had forgot I had it I did not even install it on my new phone. But last night I installed it on my nexus 7 and to my joy it worked I can now stream mp4 and avi video to my TV. I'm still looking for a way to send and receive files using WiFi direct on the nexus 7 but it I find one I'll post it here. If someone else finds a way to do it please let me know here thanks

I've got NFC switched on & they detect each other when I touch them, but they won't transfer.

go to settings > wifi > more settings > uncheck samsung beam> re-try
sending files over nfc using samsung beam only work with other samsungs switching it off uses standard nfc bluetooth transport "standard nfc"
samsung beam uses nc-wifi-direct
you could try downloading "superbeam" from market, its a great little app that lets you send files using the nfc-wifi-direct method without both devices being samsung

A bought a new LG tv with wifi direct. I can't cast my phone screen to the TV. It worked flawlessly on kitkat, so i guess google took away the feature, to force us to use their stupid chromecast thing (why the hell would i want that if i have a wifi enabled tv??). Is there a way to do it in lollipop? I must say that i'm very disappointed in google. They keep removing useful features.
In the pull down menu in Lollipop it is called "Cast Screen". Works with my Fire TV.

I have a LG TV with wifi direct. Many devices work flawlessly with miracast including the nexus 4. Only one was unable to which was windows lumia 625. Might be problem with the phone itself.
btw Are you using any old ported rom? You need to have new binaries for wireless display to work flawlessly
