Not sure if its my N4 or all N4s, but when I tap the rear of the device, towards the camera, there is a loose sound coming from it, like something is loose inside....
Its not a major problem, everything works fine, I am just a little concerned something is loose inside the device.
I called Google support and they just said it was the Sim card tray, which I pointed out to the advisor that I thought she was incorrect as the sim card tray is on the opposite side to the camera, and its only when I tap around the camera.
The noise comes from when I tap the rear of the phone, starting roughly from the word 'nexus' and continues to sound loose when I tap anywhere on the rear, above the word nexus (toward the top of the phone).
The advisor simply said contact LG if you think there is a problem but Google is telling you its normal....
Is it normal???

Mine rattles and its definitely the sim card try, it goes when you push the ejector down and shake it. There is a fix by stuffing something down the side of the slot.
Its on the opposite side to the tray, and its only at the top of the phone, I don't get how its the tray...

I can't find any similar threads, has anyone created a tutorial or anything on how to fix the problem?

Yes its usually the camera autofocus ...the only nexus 4 I had was this one that it rattles when I shake it and when taking pics autofocus makes noise like its stripping gears. Its a known issue but it may be your tray anyway try taking pic use flash and touch screen to focus by touching and see if it rattles

Anyone know how to replace the front camara with out breaking the phone?

I beleive the front facing camera is solder to the motherboard. So that will require some soldering skills.

One of the things that's critical is getting it mounted properly. It needs to end up so it's firmly pressed against the back of the front glass, otherwise dust gets in there something awful. My first one has a badly aligned camera and after 2 months all you could see was dust. The camera was completely useless.
Bear in mind that the camera sits right behind the headphone port, which is basically a giant hole in the case saying "Dust, come in here!".
If the camera is borked though, and you bought it from T Mobile, they'll replace it.
Ok thanks

Does anyone else have this problem? Whenever I tap the phone or shake it it makes a rattling sound around the camera like something's loose.

Its normal. Camera optics.

1. It isn't a "problem."
2. They ALL rattle.
3. Good job with the search you obviously didn't make.
It actually isn't the camera, there is a thread on this already (which I can't find). Something is loose in the Sim tray ejector unit. I find that taking the sim in and out quiets it down for a day or so. Trying to figure out a more permanent fix.
Hello,
Last week,my Nexus 4 slipped out of my hands, face down on It's screen. I thought I was screwed, but luckily the phone was perfectly fine.
Since that day though, it seems like the usual rattling sound that comes from my Nexus , is becoming worse. Maybe it is just inside my head, but maybe not.
Especially when I lay my phone on a hard surface, I hear an irritating rattling sound, coming from the top of the phone.
Does anyone else experience this? Or is it just me? My Nexus is working perfectly fine tho, so nothing has broken.
I am waiting for your thoughts!!
Niels

Camera shutter? That's made a slight rattling sound for me, it may have become worse for you since you dropped it

I'm not sure if it's what you describe but I noticed that when tapped a bit "harder" or put to the table with a little force, there is a slight vibration which feels like something is mounted on "rubber"...not sure how to describe...it's more like a part has a buffer which prevents it from being damaged. It really might be the camera lens or some other part swinging and I don't think something is broken.
My S3 also hadn't that kind of feedback when tapped. However it doesn't make any noise so I'm not sure if it's what you mean...but also it might be that same part just being broken in your phone if it's rattling.
Probably just the vibration motor. If you hold the back to your ear and tap the front, it sounds hollow (or like a drum).

Try tapping the same area on a display s4 and see if you hear the same thing. A real display too not a dumby phone.
My htc Dna did this and it was the lens. Verizon brought out a brand new dna and it did the same thing.... Lol good luck

Virtually every device forum on here as the same thread.
Its part of the camera lens that moves internally is the answer on every thread.
Noticed the lens rattle too. Sounds unnormal, but I went to the Shop and the Galaxy S4 there had the same "issue" while tapping on the upper Display Area.

I just went to the ATT store for the same reason. There is a plastic cover over the camera lens. Peel it off, the noise goes away..
There is no issues never has been, never will be. Its the autofocus in the camera.
That's why I set issue in quotes It's a constant sound while using the S4 and tapping the top of phone. On my S4 sadly loud, but according to the store no reason for a warranty exchange.

Does anybody have S5 which dont make rattle sound when shaken (from camera), and which model?
I've tried several of them, and all make this sound...
Thanks.

This sound is normal and part of the stabilization for the lens.. Without this photos would be blurrier. One that did not rattle would be defective.

The one I got from sprint does it returned it 3 times all have done it. But the last one I had did it all the time even when texting. the new one only does it with a shake or a kinda hard tap at the top.
It is normal. My s3 and s4 also same. Just don't shake your phone. Why do you shake your phone in the first place?
Sent from GT-I9500
It happens even if you don't shake the phone. Every time you tap the top half of the screen you hear the sound.
