Stopping & clearing google service framework to update N4
YES!
Don't do it. You'll screw up the ability to download apps, so you'll have to remove your Google account and re-enter it all. And some say that still doesn't fix the problem.
Just side load the OTA. It's so easy, you'll be surprised. It'll seriously take you longer to download the file and the SDK than it will to update the phone.

What do I need to enable to stop the 4.2 update constantly asking me to upgrade now or later? Usually you can just have the option to skip it no?
I know my phone won't ask unless I search under software updates.
This one pops up on the constant and happy with 4.1.2. Not feeling the terrible reviews on 4.2 so just want to skip it for now or till a more stable one comes out.
appreciate any help.

[INFO] Stop OTA update nagging
Sent from my Nexus 7 using xda app-developers app
The suggestions in the reply above are the best but they all require a rooted Nexus. Until you root your tablet try on Google Services Framework in Settings - Apps - All column:
1. Disable Notifications - fewer update reminders.
2. Clear Data - forgets an update is ready but may just re-download one.
3. Disable GSF - stops reminders but breaks Google Play Store and others.
I use number 3 as JB 4.1.2 works perfectly.
I have got similar prob but I am on 4.2. hoping this will work.

You can long press the notification and go to app info and uncheck the show notification box as well.

Thanks for the replies guys. Really don't understand why its setup this way. Wish it was like my S3.
Not really wanting to root this yet, but if the above don't work, may have too.

I think that is the solution for unrooted tablets!

Hi,
My Nexus 7 was stolen or lost yesterday. I have no security app installed but I have the lock screen activated.
Can I locate it?
What should I do?
Kind regards

Be more careful with your things?

Sorry mate, without anything already installed I think you're out of luck

Search the forum. Looks like there is a way if it, by the force of nature, connect by itself to an open wifi. You can let a app already queueu to download. I guess there is some security app that dont need your intervention on tablet. I guess.
Good look.

Download plan b from the play store.

I have looked into Plan B and pushing it to install. But it can only install if the device connects via WiFi, and I don't see how it can connect to any WiFi unless it comes back to my house....

Just install the APK, it's the same as the one you'll automatically get anyway
It's not a problem, just be patient if you don't want to install the APK. I haven't got it yet either.

From what I have read, its only rolling out in the U.S. at this point in time. I'm sure the rest of us will get it soon enough.

Seems like a waste of time when you can just install the apk. Same thing you would get if it was pushed by Google.

I had issues when I first tried the apk , errors , download issues etc.. Also it's not something has to be different for it to be .26 instead of. 25.
Here is a screen shot of what I was getting with the 4.0.25 APK .

I manually installed the latest Play app, but I can't say I really like it. At first glance the design seems to be reverted to the Android 2.x user interface. I don't get it why Google chose a green title bar.

I wasn't trying to be rude, it would appear you read into my response and assumed I was being rude
Anyway, if you search 'Google Play 4.0.26' in the 'Search All Forums' box up in the top right corner you'll get a lot of results for the APK
You can pull APKs without root using this guide:

I found that in my phone the other day too. I don't know what it is, but it doesn't really do anything.
Could be a log file. I'm not sure what it is. I would scan again once it appears. Not sure if it is I needed file or not. I don't have a nex 4 but was looking into getting one that's why I'm at the forum.
You can try sd maid which has a system cleaner. Or change the files permissions if you are worried about it transmitting data. But I wouldn't mess with it too much until you figure out what it is.

You guys could wipe your sdcard with twrp if you are worried, but back up all your wanted sdcard data to a computer first. And then put it back on right after. I do that with my Nexus 7 sometime. Not sure if it is the same process on Nex4. It may not be necessary, not sure.

I have removed the apps I have installed on my Device from the above list, The first one that springs to mind is the go backup. I would check there first.
I'm at a peculiar requirement that my tablet should look like an unrooted device for installation of email client called Mobile Iron.
Ive rooted my Nexus 7 and enjoing lot of super user advantages and i don't wanna unroot it but i need to fake that email client that my device is not rooted.
Is there a way? Thanks in advance!!
SuperSU has a temporary unroot function.

Gotta love "Enterprise" apps. Ugly, slow, locked down, badly designed, enforces insane policies..
Hi Ashok,
There is a app called Voodoo OTA Root Keeper. This app temporarily unroots your device however it keeps a back-up of your root. When you are done press the button and it restores root access in literally less that 2 seconds. This is mainly used while receiving a OTA update but I think it is applicable to this situation.
Hope this helped.
