Yep, it's official.... - Xperia Z General

I hate this phone......Coming to this phone from the S4 was crazy.....Never have I needed a pc to do EVERYTHING on a phone after rooting and installing a custom recovery, and with this phone it is a necessity.... Smh.... With Samsung phones I could flash ANYTHING, possibly my grandmother, from recovery. Never have I been more confused with a device in my life.....Time to sell this ol' girl, and go back home to Sammy

Brother if you want samsung plastic u can anyday go for it S4 is more powerful and customisable but in design department xperia is miles ahead and for performance it can do any task s4 can so i think its matter of needs of end user which phone should get thumbs up and qhich should not.
As far as modding goes you can just install doomlord easy root toolkit and root just from a script from pc. It takes hardly a minute. I had note 2 for which i had to use cf root exploit from odin which was also a simple task but doomlord has made more simple script.
As sony locks bootloader there are certain extra steps but those arent so bad as you are describing it takes a bit of time to adapt have you used motorola htc or other they too are like sony so you need to learn or else you can just stick to a plastic powerhouse.
I had Htc One X i sold it to buy Note 2 and now Xperia Z
Though note 2 was very good but design was just like ordinary samsung entire lineup. Having samsung products is like having Nerdy Girlfriend whom you cover up as soon as you buy them and having xperia z or htc phones is like Hot Sexy Girlfriend whom you would like to use n**d without case as they feel so good in hand

You can flash pretty much anything from recovery. Download zips from the internet to internal, flash it, no need for pc.

Actually I agree flashing is pretty simple on xperia a flashtool an ftf. Then root with doomlord and dual recovery and done. Like a samsung u need Odin a rom a recovery and root. 4 steps like on the xperia z. I don't see the issue.

What a great response.....But seeing as though I've already tried to flash 3 ROMS and all of then didn't boot past the Sony screen. Not to mention I'm on a T-mobile XZ, and it's a pain in the ass when I have to go through 30 "unbranded" ROMS, and STILL need a pc to flash them.

Sorry, I'm far from a fanboy of ANY company, but I AM a fan of ease and functionality. I could download ANY Rom on a SAMMY phone, and flash it from recovery with no problem. With the XZ I need flash tool to flash stock ROMS, just to flash ROMS.....

Guy, you could have given yourself time to get used to know how Xperia devices work.
I mean, I would be so lost flashing a Samsung device from the beginning, as I never done it before (Odin? Dafuq is that? No flashtool? Does it work with FTF?), where as in my Xperias I flash with eyes closed. I see an update on a rom that's eye catching, I flash it before going to sleep. 2 minutes downloading in my bed with the phone only, 4 minutes flashing, two minutes booting. And it is ready to test for tomorrow. I've done that since ancient times.
One time, I ****ed up 10 minutes before going off to work, got a bootloop. No troubles, during my daily commute I got the time to boot to recovery, flash a zip I knew it worked, kept my data and settings, and the phone was ready to give me a day of work, all work done in a train. Band-aid phone. But no troubles.

Sucks to get a carrier branded phone eh?

Will we make it?

Bin4ry quitted the forums although he wanted to crack the Bootloader but do you think we will make it whitout him? I feel like no but we will see
Sent from my X10i using XDA Premium App
The developers here did enough without opening the bootloader, so my guess is everything is fine here ( most ROMs here are completed with camera fix ) what more do you want?
And quitted is not the word, he just went into another project.. another challenge
I think we should start another thread about whether to start another thread about this topic

for 2.2 froyo roms, they are basically completed
for 2.3 gingerbread ones, we just have to wait for the gingerbread update (official) so we can use the kernal and drivers available to make them stable.
I don't think our devices will make it to ice cream though..

Mj what you said is true most roms are complete but there is still more things we can do for example 16 millions color thingy and the device is locked to 32 fps and i'd love to overclock my device and for some people facing the low in call volume issue a fix and all these would be done by unlocking the Bootloader.

That's the first I've heard of anything bootloader related to SE's 2.3.3. It might be possible to infer that but otherwise nothing is publicly known. *Maybe* rooting it might be more difficult.
2.3 kernel + CM7 mod >> 2.1 kernel + CM7 Mod
Just IMO (might be different but we won't know until July)
I think we should aware something:
1)Bin4ry doesn't crack the bootloader cause the cracking is...hell
What Tue devs do is to crash the normal booting procredures in order to run our custom kernel(the kexec method)
2)I still blieve that we can soon run custom kernel for daily use
Z is trying his best to do that,he had got the radio, overclockint etc, this will be released once the kernel is ready.
The leaving of Bin4ry is a kind of lost, but it doesn't mean it wont be possible to develop the custom kernel
Cheers,

[HELP!] Purchasing New Phone

Its time to purchase a new phone and i am looking at the Samsung Galaxy SII. Can someone please outline whats good/bad about the device and how the development is going? I can see that there is a lot of stock ROMs avaliable for it but will there be ROMs like CM7 and Sense, as it will take a while to port ROMs to its processor as it has to be done from scratch
I'd really recommend you to wait for a bit
Wait for the google Phone by Motorola
OR I'd say go for a ARC
What do u want in a phone ?
Best to go and ask people in galaxy s forum? Afterall they do own the phone.

I'd say go for a HTC device then
They have many many devs
They have the latest Specs and I mean "fast"
Don't go for Samsung
sgs2 is awesome.... The screen is vivid, it's dual core so it will be more future proof and because it is the biggest selling android phone of all time there will be tons of development. Also samsung is very well known to support development and custom roms, hiring the cyanogen mod developer, etc...
do not get an arc, there have been a lot of problems with the build, the housing has been cracking for a big number of people who bought them.
What about the htc sensation.

There is one program that s-off and roots your device, just like flashtool.
The reason x10 is so easy is because we don't have an unlocked bootloader, so we use flashtool for everything.
On htc phones you can flash full custom roms which include kernel, and you can also flash different radios.
It is literally no more difficult, and much better imo. Say if you break your usb port, you aren't screwed like you are with an x10.
I learned everything in about 5 minutes, read one small tutorial.

i suggest you wait and see the upcoming new releases of phones by other brands. Samsung Galaxy SII seems quite uninteresting. i feel x10 could do better in general. Farewell from me.

Well after playing with the galaxy note i bought for my gf a few days ago, i decided i couldn't take it any longer so i went to phones 4 u and asked what they could do for me. They have paid what i had left on my contract 7 months early for me and given me a galaxy s2 for free on a £20.50 p/m orange contract.
Not a bad deal i don't think.
I'll still pop in every now and then though as i still have a wildfire at home and dont want to get rid of my introduction to android, thanks to everyone that has shared anything i used and for teaching me how to get the best out of my phone.

Yesterday I received my HTC One S on contracts, 25.92 p/m for 12 months, 260 or something upfront.D) I've always loved Willy, he is the best legend to date and I don't think I can sell him
Being with Willy has been a rollercoaster, I learnt about rooting through it, my first two roots were with two Wildfires. I couldn't take Sense anymore, so I got CM7, and then eventually we got CM9!! (Well done to Erwin, if I can find his donation link I will most definitely donate)

Rooted but I staid on stock for a pretty long time until revone came along. I only used that to solve a bad kernel wakelock I was experiencing and knew was fixed in 4.2.2. I wanted to go to stock 4.2.2 but can't since now my device is s-off usage reporting to HTC is on and can't be turned off and that is causing bad battery drain too.
But I think all in all the One is so good out of the box there isn't really a big reason to root....

There have been a few bricks on aosp and a few bricks with custom roms that I've read about, I believe that the problem is just random faults HTC, can't expect to have so much going on in a phone, mass produce it on a large scale and not have some phones shutting off permanently for unknown reasons. Sorry for ot. I rooted to see what my one is capable of, tried nearly every Rom but now I'm very content with a stock custom rom that allows me to modify and personalise everything that want

I'm stock and unrooted but planning to root after warranty time/no OTAs I love rooting and flashing (got a HTC Desire before and changed it every week ) but always take the OTAs until HTC announce there are no further updates anymore.
I'm pretty satisfied with the One unrooted though. Maybe only (real) negative aspect so far is decreased battery life compared to rooted devices.

It is a little disheartening that there is hardly anything going on with this phone. One would think that the fastest smartphone in the world would get more attention than this.
Anyway, I am going to root tonight so that'll do for now. I'm really looking forward to AOSP and Cyanogenmod for the G2.

Given time, roms will come. Use and abuse your phone until that point.

How long do you think it will be until there are ROMs for the LG G2 on Verizon and the other carriers?
It is a little disheartening that there is hardly anything going on with this phone. One would think that the fastest smartphone in the world would get more attention than this.
Anyway, I am going to root tonight so that'll do for now. I'm really looking forward to AOSP and Cyanogenmod for the G2.
This is the best phone by far that I have ever owned! I've had all the latest and greatest since Android came out. LG really did a great job with the user interface too. I couldn't be happier!

If you really think the interface is great and couldn't be happier, why the rush on new roms? I'm rather content at the moment, myself, but that might change when LG starts lagging with their android updates.

I agree, I'm pretty cool with the phone for now. But if you're impatient like myself, go ahead and root and remove bloatware, and see how close you can come to stock through that. I was able to get 50+ hours of battery time on my LG G2 ending today through a bunch of tweaks, so that was exciting! :good:
Guys, please take this to the general or Q&A section, you are making me excited about someone releasing something and it is just this chatter, it looks like someone has posted when I come here and I see this conversation, OP, please a ask mod to move your lively thread, Thanks.

Are you able to remove the quick toggles in the status bar through "bloatware removal"? I know a lot of the status bar stuff is part of system, but was thinking maybe removing a few .apk's will get rid of some of it.

Bootloader needs to be unlocked before anything else.

The bootloader doesn't necessarily have to be unlocked to flash custom roms just FYI...

I know. I'm sick of people constantly saying that. you can have an exploit to flash with a locked bootloader... cough galaxy s4 cough.

Exactly. If people would stop bashing other phones and actually read development on other devices, it'd be a better understanding of what's going on or has already been going on.

Right, like they have a workarounds for the s4 using bootstrap right? People have been flashing custom roms (just not on MF3, from what I know) So since this has root, will we be able to flash by the same method once it and a few roms are available? I mean the phones awesome now and I'm in no rush but it'd b nice to know

Yeah and before that we had Loki and the boot loader wasn't and still isn't unlocked. It'll probably be a similar exploit but idk. I just know it's possible from having an S4 and I had a G Pro too
