Windows won't see files - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

I am getting a bit frustrated. The plan was simple, I ran titanium backup, now just get on my computer to copy the folder over and flash the image. However as usual some dumb friggen issue has occured and an hour in, and I haven't even started.
I'm currently running cm10.1, and want to run the image to go to stock 4.3. Windows sees my nexus 7 but it shows up as "Unspecified device" and my computer is not showing it as a storage device . I have Media device enabled, so whats the issue? Is this a CM issue? How do I fix this? Thanks

[Q] Android Help

I am pretty new to the flashing of roms and such but i get the jist of it. I am running Myn's Warm Donut off of my SD card. and i have a few questions.
1.) If I turn the phone off, then back on, will I have to re-install android? because i have to do this when I do a battery pull.
2.) In Market, when trying to dl apps it gets stuck on "Starting Download" and i have tried multiple things to fix it with no luck. I was going to try and just do it via PC at market.android.com but there it says "there are no devices associated with this account" . Then i figured I would just move the apk over to the SD card and install it that way, but my computer (Gateway NV78022U, running windows 7 x64) does not recognize my sd card when its in my phone in "My Computer" via the usb cable provided. Even after mounting the phone, its still unrecognizable. i then had tried doing it via an computer running xp and same problem occurred. The only luck ive had is being able to go into browser and dl an apk from a third party website and install it that way, however it only works about once and then it hase to force close. So my big question is how do i get apps?
3.) I am able to use the internet, even though it doesnt have wifi capabilities, and I am supposed to have data blocked, so will my bill be really high based off of data charges?
and finally
4.) how can i get free music onto my phone when i cannot access the SD Card?
Also, I wanted to install it NAND, so I wouldnt have any of these issues, but i was running into multiple errors and sort of gave up, because the update process would get stuck on 0% and i couldnt do anything from there, and then i had to install coke bootloader, which it says finished, but then when i go to update to the androidinstall.tar it does the same thing and i do not think its finding the correct image, because it says "image source: Martin 1.0" or something similar to that. so I was hoping i could get some help on these issues. all help is appreciated. thank you.

[Q] WIndows 8 Does not See Nexus Files

I recently upgraded to Windows 8 then subsequently to Android 4.3 on my Nexus 10. I can see the device in device manager and adb recognizes that the device is connected however the device does not show up as device to enable me to transfer files. My Galaxy Nexus and Xoom show up as expected. I have installed the latest drivers and I am at a loss. I have other ways of transferring files but I would like to get this fixed. Any thoughts are much appreciated.

I found a solution that worked. See solution at this link. http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2380978&page=3

Installing Universal Naked Drivers

so I got the latest Universal Naked Drivers 0.73 zip file, extraced it to its own folder on my desktop, and then I opened device manager, went to Other Devices>Nexus 4, right clicked, uninstalled, restarted my laptop and nexus 4, and then opened device manager again, and this time clicked on Update Drivers for nexus 4, and when I select browse files on my computer, then I click that folder, which has two sub folders in it, one for AMD64 and then i386, and there is also some other files in the main folder, outside the subfolders, called androidwinusba64 and androidwinusb86, as well as two more called android_apxusb and android_winusb.
But When i click on the main folder so it searched through that and the two subfolders, it keeps saying it's not finding any drivers for my device, and i've tried clicking on each of the sub folders, and neither of those make it work either. I've done what every guide has shown me, which I've installed drives hundreds of times in my 27years of life, and I have never had a problem before. Especially not with Android devices. I can't get my brand new 16gb nexus 4 that i just got yesterday (got it while I wait for Tmobile to get the Nex5 in stock, and then I am switching them out) to show up under my computer as a media device so I can actually drop files onto it. I dont get what the issue is here. I know that the 4.3 update (which I updated to last night when i first powered on my phone and activated it) cause some driver issues from what i've read, but supposedly they have been fixed or whatever, and this Naked Driver is supposed to help as well. But getting them installed first would work better lol. everytime I plug the phone in, it tries to install the drivers itself, but it keeps failing for some reason. Any thoughts on how to proceed ?
It's ADB driver, you need to enable USB Debugging. If you are using Windows 8, reboot it into advance mode and disable driver signature checking.

i already know all that lol I've been modding for quite a few years, so I know all about USB debugging, thanks tho. That's definitely not the problem. I can get the phone to work with ADB no problem, but I can't get it to show up as a media device like its supposed to when i have that selected in the USB mode options.
Oh, and I am sorry, I shoulda clarified, I am on Win 7. I already read about the Windows 8 thing tho. Which I got a copy of Win8, so I do plan on upgrading soon, check it out see what its like. But I just gto a new copy of Ubuntu, so I've been playing around with that a lot lately.
Anyone ? I have tried so many different things and Just can't get it to work, bout to chuck my laptop out the window lol
I can't speak for the naked drivers as I have never used them, but the ones that come with the SDK work fine with Win 7 on Android 4.3 (Copy and pasting files with Windows Explorer, adb, fastboot, etc.).
Did you resolve your issue? If not you should try to run "Usb Tree View" and make sure your phone internal USB switch is set to PDA and not MODEM or BOTH etc. I don't know how that works for the Nex4 but its a thing to look at.

Nexus 4 all systems partitions erased

Hi there!
I was wondering if there is a way to recover my phone after I have accidentally deleted all the system partitions using r/w access command in an attempt to recover the phone's internal memory which was showing 8gb rather than 16gb. I know this may have been a stupid thing to do but from what I have searched so far nothing seemed to solve the memory issue. I thought I could manually write the partitions but the phone won't even start and when I try fastboot devices it doesn't show the serial number and with other fastboot commands it stays on "waiting for device" for ever. Phone model is Nexus 4 E960 16GB(Mako).
Please help! :crying:
Dos anything appear in Windows device manager when you connect it to the computer (assuming you use Windows)?
After I have installed all the drivers it appeared Android device in Windows Device Manager and when I clicked appeared Full JellyBean on Mako with an exclamation mark. Thing is, at least as I have red so far, my Windows 10 can't fully recognise my phone via USB. This makes the Android device section disappeare from Device Manager and I just pray for it to appear. I will be using a Windows 7 tomorrow, I am curious what is going to happen.

I *may* have bricked my 1+6T

I was moving quickly the other day, and I ended up with a 1+ 6T that does NOT appear on my PC when plugged in. It has a copy of TWRP running and Linage, but I can't seem to change anything. Msm and Adb seem to have no connection, I have gotten the fastboot program to occasionally see the device, and on occasion I see it in my windows explorer. I am trying to get this back to a 'good' state where I can change to OS or make any changes. I am uncertain is both A / B partitions are loaded with Linage. I had this working recently, but made some dumb mistakes.
I am also unable to see the SD partion on the windows explorer any more
How do I fix this mess?
Thanks
Ray

So what is your goal then? I would reinstall latest oos on both slots because who knows what base oos rom was on there. Then put whatever rom on. As far as the PC seeing it maybe the port is dirty or wire is bad I've had that problem. If PC doesn't recognize with mtp enabled in twrp then either your drivers are wrong on PC or the wire or port are bad.
Thanks for your reply. Pretty sure the culprit was a funky windows driver. I finally got MSM to work and restored everything to original. but since then have been having a bear of a time to load anything. More and more thinking that my machine has a problem. I may look at switching over to a different machine.
Thanks
Ray
