I think Before you can flash a rom with rom manager, you will need a custom recovery.
there are a couple to chose from :
TWRP
CWM
CWM Philz Touch
The creator from the google rom rom wich you want to flash gave no specific one, so you can pick one and all three should work. i'm using philz touch at the moment.
The custom recovery must be flashed from pc with odin, if you never used odin before, you need to install usb drivers / or 'kies' first.
If you never used Odin, then make sure you read a little first on how to use it, it's simple but can give bootloops or worse if not used well.
Since you have to flash this recovery you might as well flash it from there? it's easier i think and has more options then rom manager.
turn off phone -> press volume up - menu button - power button at the same time wich will open custom recovery and from there follow the guidelines from the google edition v6 topic on how to flash it.
-> Inside the custom recovery there is an option for backup, i suggest if this is your first custom rom tryout, that you make a backup in that custom recovery before trying, like that you can't do much wrong while testing

i guess i made it ... thanks for anyone who trying to help me..
now running JB4.3 thanks before

-> owyess, those custom recoverys are for i9505, if you have an i9500 or other device, DON't flash these but get your own version at the 'original android development' threads from your device

[Q] ClockWordMod Recovery installation of a ROM fails

Hello,
I tried multiple times to install a ROM with ClockWordMod Recovery on a rooted Samsung Galaxy Y with stock kernel & rom.
Even when I reflash the stock rom with Odin and try everything what people suggest on the internet, it doesn't work.
I get the next error when I try to install a ROM like JellyBlast or some other ROM's: Installation aborted(bad).
What can I do to fix this ?
And also it isn't possible to flash ClockWordMod Recovery for permanent, need to flash it over and over when I restart recovery.
If this problem is with multiple roms, you need to probably try another zip file of CWM. If this is for one particular rom, download the rom zip again; you must not have downloaded it fully.
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
there are some roms which install only via recovery not cwm..
nd if u want permanent cwm try to install a kernel with cwm like savie's kernel..
**rooting is new for me...and i am noob to root...**
This happened because ur downloaded ROM file is bad. Do a redownliading or unzip it with zipper then zip it again. Then it will be ok. Last time i had a problam like this
Sent from my GT-S5360 using xda premium
Most probably corrupted files
clearly,god is a democrat!
Thank you all for the fast responses and I tried also different roms and I have a second problem too with unzipping the roms.
When I try to unzip all of the roms that I tried, It gives an error that I can't unzip it, and I tried 4 times to download again and again the ZIP, but nothing works.
Do you guys have an idea of a kernel with permanent CWM and an ICS rom for Galaxy Y that works by installing it with CWM ?
So yes, could you please send me the XDA-thread if possible ?
@menewtoroot: Could you send me the correct topic of that Kernel with working download links and can you also confirm that this will work for a permanent CWM ?
Thank you all again, I will wait for you
Firstly :
Problem if you fail to flash, try to check the flashable zip file, maybe Bad file/corrupt file
Second :
if you want to have permanent CWM on your phone, i recommend you to try using Savie kernel
it so fast and more performance and have Permanent CWM

If you really want your phone to work fast and default CWM.
I suggest you use Merruk kernel.
Fast and bug free.
If I helped maybe you would consider hitting thanks button.

Hello guys,
I did try everything like it does need to be working, but it doesn't work.
First time I tried, the ROM booted but everything crashed so I started over again:
Wiped everything
Flashed Stock rom with Odin
Flashed the Jellyblast rom
Flashed CWM with Merruk kernel
Tried to boot and stuck at boot screen
Tried this for several times, even without flashing Merruk's kernel it doesn't work.
Can you please provide me a short SELF-MADE tutorial with the easy steps to do what and FLASH what?
With the files included please ?
Thank you all!

1. I'm trying to flash any custom ROM.
2. I used to have TWRP and any time I was moving from another ROM I would do a factory rest and wipe data and everything goes fine.
3. I changed to CWM recovery last night ( Install by ROM Manager ) and tried to flash rom ( after do wipe data and factory reset ) it showed it was trying to flash the rom and went ok ( and also gapps too ).
4. I reboot the phone and it's stuck in the samsung logo and won't go through.
5. I tried to flash other ROM as CM, Pac , Carbon, and with all of them same issue.
6. I format everything in the mount section and still not able to go through because it won't flash anything.
Did you Loki doki after flashing the rom?
If said u format everything..then u had wipe all inside ur hp..
If u using samsung u need pit and odin..and also the rom..

You are still not giving enough information. Are you sure the ROM and Kernel were for AT&T or at least could be used on an AT&T phone? Was it already LOKI'd or did you use the LOKI-DOKI script directly after flashing the ROM / Kernel (and GAPPS if applicable) while still in recovery? The ROM Manager CWM version does not auto-loki, only OUDHS CWM auto-lokis.
Did you follow the flashing instruction in the ROM's thread exactly?
If you don't know or understand any part of what I am asking you, you will need to read all of the pinned threads in the "General" section to familiarize yourself with what you need to know.

As I said all of my problem was the CWM and I don't know why it won't be able to flash any zip file.
I was flashing CM 10.2 unofficial that day , no special kernel ( Just ROM ) and PA latest GApps.
But they didn't work and I went to ODIN and stock my phone and rerooted and used TWRP and I was able to flash everything.

urgent! stuck on splash!

hey all,
so i am incredibly new to this scene and just recieved my s4. i was preparing to flash a ROM onto my phone, and got it rooted and installed CWM.
I forgot to download the actual ROM zip file, and went into CWM via goo manager, wiped factory/data and cache. It was only AFTER i wiped everything that i realised i didnt download the ROM zip file, so i rebooted the phone and now it is stuck on the start-up splash screen where it displays "Samsung galaxy S4 GT-I9505" and will not continue :crying:
I was running on stock, and had only rooted the phone.
PLEASE i urgently need to fix this ASAP. Help!
Hi,
is there a Odin Version of the Rom you tried to flash? If yes, you could simply bring your device to download-mode and flash the Rom with Odin.
Alternatively search for a odin flashable Recovery and flash this first. Then you could boot to recovery and flash the zip of the Rom.
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda app-developers app
i tried installing the liquid smooth rom, and from what i can see there is no odin version of the rom :\
Are you able to direct me to an Odin flashable recovery I can use?
im really stressing out about this
i'm in the process of downloading a stock firmware and will try to flash it on, but it's taking forever to download
I don't see why you can't boot again if you have only wiped the user data and cache, just press the home button for 10 seconds and see if it restarts with your reset stock firmware. Otherwise you can reboot into recovery and do the wipes again (not the option to install a new ROM), or put the ROM zip you want to flash on an SD card and then flash from the SD.
I hope this helps.

You should of made a backup with CWM. That's what it's used for also, besides flashing .zips. Always make a backup that you can restore and keep an extra copy on ur computer and/or a usb drive.
You have to use Odin to flash a stock firmware from Sammobile website. Make sure you download the correct firmware for your phone.
Dont worry, your phone isn't brick.
when i first did the wipe, i chose the option that i was going to install a new ROM. I'm now assuming that's where i made a mistake.
I did make a backup before i wiped everything onto my SD card, but now i can't even access that backup because it's saying there's nothing.
I've tried flashing a ROM onto it, but it says aborted.
Yes SORF ist right. It should boot into resetted stock firmware.
First try to copy the Rom to SD and then boot to recovery an try flashing it.
If booting to recovery doesn't work (but it should work if you just wiped user data and cache) you should try flashing new recovery with odin.
You could use Philz recovery for GT-I9505 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2281367
Installation Instructions for installation with odin you find here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=39433857&postcount=4

Have you tried to boot into recovery again and then flash your already downloaded rom from sd? So you don't have to download a complete sammy rom.

yes i have tried that, and it says that install aborts.
Also when i re-wipe everything and then try to reboot, it says my device is missing root.
When i try to re-root, and the device reboots, it gets stuck on the intro screen again so the root doesn't actually complete installing
have you fixed it yet?
so im going to try a different ROM other than the liquid smoothe one i wanted (since it keeps saying aborted)
question: does it matter if i use ANY s4 ROM regardless of carrier? I'm from Australia and there is no specific carrier for my phone on xda
Why does it fails to install? Are there any more error messages?
Also you can try the point "Fix Permissions" under Advanced Options. This could help.

try something lite like miui - it will save you time on download and is a good solid base to work from. dont flash the lite gapps without a reboot.
for a solid Sami based rom then i suggest using GoldenEye.

ok so i went ahead and found the cyanogenmod one
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2317040
and installed this and it works
though i dont like the look of this ROM lol, i prefer something a little more stock looking.
Any recommendations?
When reflashing a new ROM, what is the process i need to follow?
Cyanogenmod is themeable. So you could search for a stock like theme and install that.
If you like an overall more stock rom try scottyf79's recommendation.
If you want to flash a complete new Rom first copy zip onto sd, then boot into recovery, wipe data and cache, then falsh zip file.
Try the Omega Roms. They are close to stock.
Closest to stock are the prerooted DJembey ROMs (the CWM ones) or the Wanam Lite ROM (it's what I am on now)

personally -
i use Philz recovery
before install of a new rom - i use the "new rom" wipe option rather than the normal data, cache and dalvik wipe (it does this but adds in some extra steps)
then flash the rom of choice
if you get any other messages before reboot - select no
like i said before, if you want a stock looking Sami rom then try Golden Eye.

Stuck on download (odin) mode

Ok, so I decided to root and install zRam swap 4x on my SGS 4, first thing I did was flashing cf auto root by Odin then installing s4 flasher app and giving it root acces and flashed CWM recovery, After that I´ve flashed
[KERNEL][ATT][AOSP/TW/GE - 4.2/4.3][9/17/2013] KT-SGS4 - MFD - LOKI'd - KTweaker
and zip for zRam swap
inside CWM recovery .. not sure when but it asked me to repair su binaries (root access) as it might be lost so I did what it suggested and then the problem starts.
When I try to boot my S4 it ends up in Download mode . what I need(I think) is TAR file of the mentioned kernel (what should have been provided in the kernels OP but it is not! )
My device: GT I9505 version
TW ROM Official 4.2.2
Just flash a recovery true Odin, then boot the recovery, full wipe and flash the rom you want.
Don't touch repair su binaries again. You shouldnt be needing that.

I was hoping I could repair the damage without reflashing the whole ROM with just flashing kernel?? (there is the problem?)
So far, I´ve done some reading and managed to flash Philz recovery via Odin, I have custom recovery now..
Then flash a rom you want and hope it boots. Maybe you have some luck. If that fails full wipe and flash a rom.
I would still recommend a full wipe though. Make sure you have nandroid backups next time you start messing with your phone.
What am I doing wrong here???
I´ve flashed my Rom and it was ok, rooted with odin, flashed philz recovery with odin and then flashed kernel mentioned in above posts, cleared cache, dalvik ..and it still wont boot but goes to Download mode (odin)..
Since I´m still new to this forum and doesn´t have access to post in the right thread I´m using this ..
I really want that feature of zRam and swap on my phone but don´t know what is wrong here!

Well, I think someone said that it´s ok for i9505 TW Rom so I´ve flashed (btw. in turboZram thread is said that you need that kernel)
..either way, I´ve managed to do what I wanted, flashed ausdim kernel (which is from base of KT)_
[Kernel][TW][3.4.66][Google-Edition][V19][GCC 4.8][Fade-led][Sound][Intelli-plug]
..and everything works just fine, zram swap is working, oc etc.
..only one thing is bugging me, it keeps pushing notification that says :
"Detection information-
Device has recognized application that is trying to do unauthorized actions"
When I click on it, it pops up saying that in order to protect my device, it recommends reboot with option reboot now and later...when I click later it disappears and few minutes later comes back again.
I think I´ve read somewhere about it but can´t remember. Any help in solving this problem is welcome! :cyclops:
btw. multitasking on my S4 is now waaaaaaaaaaay better , and no lag at all..
10 apps (with 3 IM apps in background) running without problem and still leaving me over 300MB of Ram free.
remove the battery...

Doesn´t help...removed for over 30sec and still nothing..
Tried to delete KNOX app via Titanium backup... no results, notification pops up.
Only thing that´s left I think is trying to delete from system folder KNOX app but I´m not sure what and where exactly.
I´ve noticed that when I delete data of Knox notification manager (or something like that) in android app manager, notification disappears for while but there is no option for deleting the app.
One more thing, I can´t set up my lock screen wallpaper ?!? ..it shows me my homescreen wallpaper as a lock.

You sound like you really don't know what you're mate.
I think the best advice anyone can give you is to put your phone down and read some more.
If you have successfully flashed CWM then all you need to do is flash a ROM of your choice then wipe data / factory reset.
Also before you even think about flashing anything to your phone you NEED to back up your EFS partition.

Don't panic bad it's just down to the version of recovery ?
Just go back into recovery & try flashing again once you get status 7 go back & second line from bottom where you chose zip you will see "allow update old binary" tick the box if not ticked or until if it's selected then select zip to flash & it'll go straight through
