Samsung, help cheer up the trapped Chilean miners
As many of you will know, at the very moment 33 miners are trapped inside a collapsed mine. Until rescuers are able to get to them, there is very little the miners can do except to try to stay alive. It is estimated that it may take until Christmas, 4 months(!) from now, until they can be rescued.

Trapped Chile miners: Nasa asked to 'help with psychological trauma' (link)
As explained by a NASA astronaut, trying to stay alive while being trapped in a very small confined space means much more than just getting enough to eat and drink. It is very important psychologically for the miners to have something to do to pass the time, to keep them from going insane during their long wait for rescue.
Currently, the only way rescuers are able to transport items to and from the place where the miners are trapped is by some narrow, extremely long bore shafts. There is no way to send down very large or heavy objects...but small, light smartphones should not be a problem!
Being a gadget freak like many of you probably are, too, I would like to petition Samsung to provide the miners with some of our beloved Galaxy S phones
Of course, making ordinary phone calls would be impossible down at that depth underground, but it would certainly be possible for the miners to make video recordings. Maybe even a wireless hotspot device lowered down into the shaft would enable the miners to video call their loved ones topside.
Also, the miners can use the excellent multimedia features to watch movies, listen to music, read ebooks and maybe play some games while they are down there.
I believe it would be a very generous gesture if Samsung could provide these desperate lonely people with something to cheer them up.
This is why I would like to ask you to sign this petition so we can present it to Samsung asking them to help the miners in Chile.
Please reply to this petition by stating your name and any contact info you wish to share. Your help will be greatly appreciated.
Signed,
Alain Kalker, Enschede, The Netherlands.

One question..how do they charge the phones?
What about batteries... should they send down a new box every day?
Sent from my GT-I9000 using XDA App
External high capacity USB chargers with replaceable packs (5000mAh+) should do the trick. I've no doubt Samsung can come up with the right specs for those. Beats having to peel off the back cover with gritty hands anytime!
If even NASA's on the job, running out of juice will be the least of the problems
NASA has a wii....
I vote for playboy magazines.
they can probably lower a very long extension cord and usb charger for every one
i saw some video of the miners on the news
they have some sort of webcam down there
Many mining companies send stuff like ipods down anyway (at least they did in Australia). Mining companies are nearly pure profit, so they should be doing this anyway..
In that case, they might as well send down a iPhone4. Not like they are going to get reception problems down there
I wonder if Iridium Sat phones work down there..
battery
I do hope samsung battery does not explode under extream temperature down there.
There is not point have android phone without market. So they need internet too.
I think iphone work better down there.
1. Samsung screen is too bright down there
2. Iphone has more games in app store
3. They need flash to take photo and video. (i9000 does not have flash)

Hemm, you have good intentions buddy, but I wonder if theres not better alternatives than galaxy s (even though we love our sgs).
Anyways, I hope they're out asap, before they even have the chance to accept these things.

Well, name a better alternative
iPhone 4's are not such a great idea I think, their (external) antennas will short out in the probably damp conditions there. Lol about that one I dare you it's a serious concern.
Also I think the SGS is easily the phone with most features per ounce, so they're not just sending down a heavy stack of shiny pieces of glass (iPhones, whether Gorilla glazed or not). Dangerous that, if the payload gets unhooked!. Just imagine a stack of iPhones barrelling down a tube at terminal velocity, I wouldn't want to be anywhere near!
(Oh my, I've really become tipsy with sleep deprivation working on the fm radio fix, joking about such a serious topic.)
I really hope these people down there get all the help they need, FAST.

Hey guys,
I bought my GNote in Feb 2012 but I would have gotten a iPhone 4s if I didn't already own an iPod but I was really upset over the OS (not the phone or specs) missing so much iOS features which I'm used to on my iPod. I switched to PA and though that rom is so much more better than GB, it still lacks some stuff. I still depend heavily on my iPod a lot. Recently my iPod after alot of abuse is giving way and the bottom part of the screen doesn't respond to touch, though useable I can't use it much and its now become a YouTube and music player only.
I will be getting the next Gen iPhone when its out (hopefully sooner than later). I'm not complaining at all or hating android, its unique but it isn't meant for me (and I'm far to dependent on iOS). I don't want to get another iPod because I'm sick of the switching between devices and my iPod can't do much without wifi (affecting my iMessage usage a lot) and I just want to keep all my major usage to one device and keep it simple.
I created this thread to ask what you guys do with your own Notes other than the obvious calling and texting and web browsing etc. I bought the Note on a 2 year contract and I don't want it collecting dust after getting the new iPhone. I still want use the device for the minor stuff or when my iPhone is charging or when I can't use it. I intend to use my note for when I'm home since my sim on my note will go to the new phone and it isn't much without connection to the net. So far I intent to use my note for reading books when I'm home/before bed, use for videos and note taking (obviously) and use Google music. What else do you guys do on your notes?

How can you go smaller once you´ve had the Note?.. Why do you want iPhone so bad? What kinda features are missing on the Note?.. What you can do on the iPhone, you can do on the Note BUT what you can do on the Note, you can not do it on the iPhone!..
What does the iPhone offer that the Galaxy Note doesn't, or do you merely want to be a sheep and follow the Apple fad? If you give us what you find the iPhone offers over the Note, chances are someone here will find a way of doing that just as good - if not better- on the Note.

Well said... when my friends look at my note and say "Your phone is too big..." I usually reply with "I think your phone is too small", I open the browsers of both phones, open a website like f1-live or nba.com place them side by side and smirk. (And this is not directed at the iPhone in particular, half of them are on other Samsung models and HTCs.
We also work a lot with PDF apps to highlight and make notes on pdfs... guess who doesn't have to bring an extra stylus in his pocket or an ipad or another tablet.
Honestly, the GNote killed other phone models for me...

well I know that but I sorta don't have an issue with it as I said I do use an iPod and note together so I sorta got used to going big then small but anyways the iPhone is rumoured to have a big screen at least 4 so hopefully its true. And fortunately no I'm not a sheep following apple, I have used both kinds of devices extensively and I'm not surprised you guys questioning about apple OS, sorta expected and the same thing will happen on apple forums with them questioning android but to be more specific about what I get from iOS that android doesn't offer:
iCloud integration (contacts calendars being in sync) which I value so much
Photo stream
iCloud backup so no need to plug to PC to backup
iTunes and app store that is available where I live unlike play store where I can't buy anything but games apps and not all of the are available to my phone specific.
Pages app that keeps sync with my iPad using iCloud so I can switch between devices when doing work
And the cool new thing with just having to pull down the notification centre to update Fb status
All around dictionary built on so I just have to high light a word and tap define for meaning and not copy then paste on google
And reader feature on safari which is AMAZING
Good ol' iMessage
I can go on the the list just gets longer and before you guys quote me and start saying, this apps replaces this feature and adding this method in replaces that thing or that's stupid and useless and not needed, I am used to the iOS system and the convenience of it. I know android also has its perks and due to the open source there is several rooms that you can pick from giving you different experiences with your phone.
Let's not argue on apple sucks and android rules or what not and get back to topic. I for one will be playing certain games OK my note instead because of the big screen like gta and Batman. So what other uses are there for the note?

Sounds to me like you are very comfortable with IOS and I don't see a problem with that. You've been open minded about trying Android and it doesn't work for you. Such is life.
Rather than try to find uses for your GNote, why not sell it. (Preferably before the release of the GNote II).
Wotsup is right.
Good on you for trying out Android.
Sometimes i think to myself, how can anyone use iOS? It has less functionality, and there are so many restrictions. Everything looks the same, the home screen is so ugly.
Although I'm not a huge fan of Apple, they excel in user friendliness. Everything is like spoonfed. Some people like to customise their device and root it and do whatever the hell they want with it.
Others would rather get their device straight out of the box and just have everything work. Apple does a brilliant job in getting all their iDevices to just work. Seamlessly.
That's why even on the bus I see old people (like really old people) all with iPads and iPhones. But I really can't imagine the same people running custom Android roms or what not. XD
Anyways, the different devices will appeal to different people.
Good on you for giving Android a shot.
The All Around Dictionary would be great. Yes as you mentioned there are alternatives of all that you mentioned but not pre-configured if that is how iOS is deployed.
I agree with last 2 posters. I own a mac and love it. Ive owned tablets from both camps and the ipad wins hoands down.
But when it comes to phones im android all the way. Thats because i brougt into tue ecosystem supporting it.
Just like the op has and fair play you gave it ago. Im the first at work to bash apple users with compare the note test putting them to shame. But while we bash they have the upperhand their apps and tgat must be hard to break from.
One colleague just layered a multitrack song using midi in mics and a small bit of software all run on the iphone 4s. To say i couldnt win that one would be an understatement lol
So if you prefer ios then as mentioned sell your note now while its worth more.

4 inch screen on new iphone? not enough my note is 5.3 and waiting for the 5.5 on note 2, itrash its just plain boring and limitated os(for limitated no used to technology like my grandma) people... I own a galaxy Nexus 4.67 inches and I can't watch its screen.. nor hold it in my hand.. to damn small so this thing about switching between iPod and note its bs.. Haha how did I know it would deteriorate into name calling? Oh right. Android loons can't take criticism. And definitely can't stomach any sort of fruit. You know jelly beans and ice cream sandwiches are nice treats, but not entirely healthy if eaten beyond moderation. Not good for scurvy either.
@OP. Sell the Note. It can fetch a decent price. Go buy an iPad2. You can get a refurb one straight from apple for only $319. I have a refurb one. Or if you really want the higher resolution "new" iPad, you can use the money plus a bit more to get it. The resolution gain wasn't worth it for me. They are identical otherwise. You are treating your note like a tablet anyway, leaving it at home and using it around the house, so might as well buy a real one. Don't get an Android tablet. If you already own a tablet, send your note to me.

Thank you guys for the reply especially msedek for that extremely pointless and useless comment that was so unconstructive. Pretty sure you are the troll here, unlike you I do own both an iPod and GNote and since like you said in your words 'you can do everything you are saying here and more with any android device...' how about you list the ways I can get what ever I like on iOS onto android. Pretty sure your not gonna reply so I'll just say it.... T R O L L . . .
Also thanks to THUDUK for the gay remark, you have fulfilled you part in the XDA forums, go celebrate!
As for the rest of guys, thanks for the replies (I really mean it and not sacarstic unlike to the other 2 morons I quoted). The think is I don't wanna sell my note because I still want to part own an Android but just use it as my main device. I also am still making payments for it, I bought it on a 2 year contract so don't wanna sell it while still paying for a device I can't use if I sold. I don't intend to use it as a tablet as I do own a iPad already, but since I got no intentions at all to sell my note I want to make use of it even after the phone switch.
At this point I don't know what size screen the next iPhone has but what ever size it is I will still be getting one because my iPod is close to fried, yesterday lock button stop working. So I literally need an iOS device (cas its my drug) and instead of just spending money on next gen iPod which becomes almost useless without wifi I want to get the iPhone just to keep it all in one. I actually was thinking and the note is pretty slim actually so I do intend to put a few TV shows and movies and take it with me for long journeys or trips and its big screen and 8 megapixels can come in great use to take pictures unless the next Gen iPhone has a 12 megapix then proabaly use that to take pics but anyways the device is pretty slim and not that much heavy for me to use it as a video player on the go. So I save battery on my phone watching videos on the note and I can do texts and calls without having to pause the video etc.
I still want to use my note as much as I can even after I get the iPhone. Also I really respect the most of you here who replied for actually understanding the point of this thread and not be like 'some other people and make plain stupid and meaningless remarks'... and gay comments also. So I'm final thing is very unlikely to sell my note as I'm still making payments for it and also I can use it as a backup if I lose my iPhone or send it for fixing or simply run out of battery. Once again I thank you guys for the replies and keep them coming, I have tried extensively both iOS and ics and prefer iOS more but doesn't mean android isn't good, it just isn't for me.

Really difficult to say what size as there are also rumors that apple is testing the new device in a shell very similar to iPhone 4 design as they are aware there will be leaks and people online are saying the new iPhone will have a completely new design and not the slightly longer iPhone 4 shells we see in leaks. But once again those are just rumors, we got to wait and see. Though I feel like the iPad mini might happen to compete with android 7 inch tablets but the iPad mini are targeted for a different audience I think, we just got to wait and see.

Well Said.
I hate apple, but i have to agree that for some people it fit's better.
I can hate apple, but first i must respect others and their opinions. Get your new iphone, and be happy with both. As others said, Gnote still has a good selling value, that will drop once the Gnote2 comes out. But if you don't want to sell it, as a backup phone and media player is a good options. Iphone can be too small, but in the other hand ipad could be too big, so in that case, you will have your Gnote.
Also, with the codec's support on the note, and the size of the screen, it could be a nice media player, if phone network is not in use.

Wow I really really appreciate you suggesting different alternates to iOS features on Android but they are all additional steps that may not be practical. First for the contacts and calendar syncing with Google on Mac, pretty sure you need to have your Mac switched on but either ways I don't have one (yet). As for the photo stream it isn't in the default photo app, you need to go to drop box to retrieve the pictures and once again you need the add on of drop box.
Titanium back up features don't work on trail version (I think) and again an add on app. Also I have tried market enabler, it does change the country for the play store, and only the playstore. Still don't get the TV shows and movies and books options. Also one thing o hate about android (no offense), don't know if its the OS or the apps but its probably the apps but anyways in music when there are 2 albums with the same names even though they are by different artist they share the same cover art and when I click on one of the similar titled album the tracks from the other similar titled albums are together. I have tries all the popular music apps so far and finally settled with Google music despite this issue because of the streaming service (which is really a game changer with androids). So to be less confusing I have 2 albums titled unbroken, one by Demi Lovato and another by Kathrine Mcphee and when I click on Demi's album both songs from Kathrine and Demi's album appear together and same goes when I click on Kat's unbroken album I see demi's track on the list too. Another example is Liberty X's and Kylie Minogue's X album. Oh also books form iTunes store don't work on android as they are Drm protected.
Google Drive isn't the same as Pages, the basic function are similar but they are not the same. Also Drive doesnt do PP and Excel. Same thing about them being in sync, add on app or it doesn't work. What's app isn't the same as iMessage as it doesn't allow sending HD videos and it doesn't work on multiple devices. For iMessage if I set it up on both my iPod and iPad when I get a message both devices get it and I can setup multiple emails as IDs for people to send texts and finally what's app doesn't work on Macs.
1 iPhones do have long battery lives depending on usage
2 Safari does have desktop browser experience and also Android doest have flash support anymore similar to iPhones.
3 more than 4 words do fit on the screen and a lot more depending on size and length of words and screen orientation.
4 willing to trade in wide screen gaming for a phone that gets the games way faster than android (couple months faster) and a phone that doesn't heat up so fast and make it super uncomfortable to continue playing and app store with wider variety of games.
5 don't practice it
6 love my car too much to teleport
7 not involved in it
8 hate running
9 earth does that for me
10 take your time!
Finally, dont worry I'm not offended but once again thank you for the post to suggest alternatives but its just mostly add on apps that don't work the same unlike iOS which just works!
The all around dictionary part, maybe you didn't get it but with iOS you just select a word and select define and it has the meaning so you don't need to leave the app and go to another dictionary app and tap paste than wait for the translation depending on your network speed. Thanks so far for the suggestion people keep them coming!

Hi everyone
I am considering a smart watch for multiple reasons but mainly so i know when somebody calls me at work.. must say though I LOVE customizations like everyone else on XDA
I have researched up on the following three watches
sony smartwatch
motorola motoactv
i'm watch
all three of these watches are nice and have their ups and downs.
i loved the motoactv because of its customizations however after reading up on the size of the actual thing i was a little more sceptical about it!
my wrist is not the biggest at about 47mm.. the motoactv is 46mm and quite bulky from the images and wanted to know what people think about its size. the i'm watch is a little bigger than the motoactv and bulkier however it is curved.. what do you guys think of that? the sony smartwatch would seem to be the best option thanks to its slick design and size however its functionality makes it more of a half smartwatch.
what do you guys think would suite my needs and wrist size? what are your opinions on the watches and what do you have and why did you pick it?
Just to say the pebble watch does not interest me because it lacks rich functionality.. i use whatsapp.. phone.. sms.. calendar.. music as my core apps and i would expect most of these on the watch (understand if whatsapp is not useable as long as there is notification)
Motoactv is my choice.
Yeah, it's kind of big, and my wrist is tiny, like girls wrist tiny. I personally don't give a crap about the looks, and it never feels in the way or like it's weighing me down, in fact I forget I'm wearing it sometimes.
The very few people that actually do make a comment or a little joke about the size have always eaten their words when I either show them or tell them what it does. And I work at a building supply store, so if anyone would think it was dorky it would be them. Yet they still always leave blown away, or asking where to get one.
I mean sure, sometimes I wished it was curved slightly to fit my wrist a little better, but out of all the smart watches out there currently this one is definitely the most capable.
Yeah I get where you're coming from.. functionality wise you don't have to take your phone out of your pocket! The only reason I am considering the sony smartwatch is because it is a size my wrist can cope with.. is there something out there like the motoactv but more ergonomic and a tad smaller or landscape?

Nope, at least not one as functional. All the smaller ones don't do anything by themselves but tell time. Out of the 4 you can get that run full fledged Android and as such can perform as independent Android devices, the Motoactv beats them all for me.
The other three being:
WIMM One - developmentally dead, uglier than the motoctv, lower res screen, and was never able to be modified to use as a full android device. Good CPU and RAM though, and always-on screen is nice
I'm Watch - Looks nice but lacks wifi, slow CPU and little RAM, no hardware buttons and Android 1.6 limit app compatibility
Z1 Smartwatch - A fully functioning watch Smart phone with cell radio, but MASSIVE, way bigger than the Motoactv, also very slow CPU and little RAM
Hmm I see thanks for that.. being able to use android on your wrist is an amazin pheat however I am still contemplating my uses for the device.. its a real shame I cannot see these in person.. that would greatly help!

What I like about it, customization. I can change SO many things on my Motoactv to make it mine. I mean, a plethora of clock widgets, wallpapers (static or live), custom lock screen with apps like widget locker, calender widgets (DAMN handy on a watch), and apps. Oh man apps. I've installed a notepad with widget support, awesome for reminders or other things. Also a calculator (reminds me of the old casio watches), Poweramp for an amazing music player with custom equalizer, Gameboy emulator for simple RPG games, MXPlayer for videos...I can make my watch essentially what I want it to be, thanks to the nature of Android.
I've got videos of it on Youtube if you're interested. Just search my username, it's the same as on here.
My smartwatch comparison
Feel free to check out all the stats there. MotoACTV for my vote of course.
imho... at $18 with free shipping on ebay, the sony liveview mn800 (NOT THE SMARTWATCH)
is badass! it's tiny, sips power, can run all day, runs standard CHIBIOS RTOS on oled screen.
There's a custom firmware/rom functioning and under active development; an OPEN source app manager for the phone; an official app from Sony still being updated... tons of support and devs. Over 50 plugin apps available at the moment. AND liveview takes standard micro usb power so no proprietary cables and chargers.... use your phone charger if you must.
I agree it's not anywhere near the power of the motoactv (which is my second favorite but good luck finding motoactv below $160ish !almost 10 times as much!) and while it does have a degree of independence and I LOVE that it runs fullblown android... it's wifi/bt only ... so for most things you are still tethered to phone anyway. And it's mini usb... so plan on carrying around an additional adapter or charger.
Liveview is tiny, extensible, and dirt cheap and universal.
imho that's hard to beat!
if motoactv comes down to $80 I'll reassess.
---------- Post added at 03:13 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:00 PM ----------
I want the motoactv... I lust after it.
BUT. It's discontinued. Before sinking close to $200 and then more on the accessories in to something... I'd wonder how many more charge/discharge cycles the battery statistically has? MTBF type stuff.
Is the battery replaceable? Can you get a suitable replacement battery at a reasonable price?
If the screen breaks... can you get replacement screen or digitizer? Is the device easy enough to tear apart and operate on?
Is there an Open motoactv client app for phone? Will moto/google release this to allow extensibility? Will it remain compatible with future android versions/apis? What kind of a power drain will you get maintaining a connection btw phone and motoactv?
But if you have cash to burn - go for it It looks awesome.
Otherwise. $18 on ebay for the liveview lets you wade into the water slowly and if it breaks... **** order two!!! This thing is awesome!

I'm in the process of trying to build a solar watchstrap for it with this guy:

and this guy:

if this works... battery should run forever!!!
---------- Post added at 03:23 PM ---------- Previous post was at 03:13 PM ----------
But the biggest feature for me is that at $18 with free 2 day shipping from NYC... this thing is cheap enough with enough functionality that people will impulse buy it and then want more features... so the DEV community is set to grow exponentially as the price continues to fall.
As we've seen time and again - there are no feats the XDA community is unable to traverse. With an exponentially growing DEV and lay community... this thing is going to continue to become sicker and sicker.
PS if you google liveview, don't be turned off by negative reviews... Imho they are older, by unsophisticated users on older android versions and older firmware and app versions. In my experiences across the evo 4g, evo 3d, and note 2, this watch is solid. The connection and battery issues have largely been obviated by the new firmwares, new phone companion apps, and 3rd party app solutions. I love this little watch. I've bought 4 of them and donated to the local hackerspace until my primary breaks - but it's been several years already and she's still ticking.
I've got both, they're both microusb and both use my regular sgs3 charger.
I like my liveview, just not nearly as much. Can't play music on it or do anything standalone really. Can't even keep time without being tethered.
Hell, I can play angry birds on my actv lol.

New Sony firmware or the open firmware allows to keep time even without connection to phone.
Motoactv is MICRO? same connector as liveview? man, apologies. my search, though cursory, showed mini. Good save. thanks.
I agree Motoactv is awesome; especially if you are will be in wifi areas.
But at $200ish vs. $20ish...
If you don't like it... makes a great gift to a geek when/if you want to upgrade.
Any advice on where to get a cheap motoactv?
EBay, for sure. I've seen them there for under $150, but they're still in high demand after they discontinued them, sadly.

I feel the exact opposite. The connection to the phone feels much more like an extension than a reliance. In fact there was a period i hadn't connected it to my phone for months. This was due to Android 4.2.2 having bluetooth issues on the GNex. I've since downgraded to 4.1.2 to get my text messages and caller ID function back, because it's damn handy at work. Otherwise, everything else runs right on it. For what I use it for mostly I don't need an internet connection most of the time.

The battery is replaceable, and available last time I checked. Screen/digitizer will be hard to find. Lots of people have opened this thing up and worked on it. There are tutorials online even. No open client, but people have found ways to communicate with it despite this. It uses Bluetooth 4.0, which is only just now being introduced to Android. The only thing that could stop it in the somewhat near future is companion app compatibility, and that's only if a new Android version breaks it. It wouldn't be hard for motorola to update the app with a simple compatibility update either.
I had my motoactv connected to my phone for 8 hours while I was at work today. It's been on for a total of 12 hours from when I unplugged it this morning, and I have 77% left right now.
Happen to have an extra Moto actv laying around?

Oh fxuck sony just opened up dev on smartwatches. Loving them fir the first time since the nineties right now! Smartwatch 1 and 2 just became much more attractive! OP, buy smartwatch2 when it hits $70ish for full touchscreen... buy smartwatch1 mn800 live view if you can only afford $20ish ... but no multi touchscreen imho. Anyone else know the added features delta betwixt the two smartwatches?
It looks really cool, Amazon keeps having these flash sales on Amazon for $151. Right now you can pre-order it for $199 on their site. What do you guys think of it? Any-one get theirs yet?
https://misfit.com/products/misfit-vapor
I'm interested in hearing from anyone who ordered one/has one as well. Honestly, I'm stunned that a non-flat-tire, not ginormous, waterproof, android wear 2.0 smartwatch with a touch bezel is not getting more notice/media coverage.
It's like all the big review sites said, "Yeah, it's available on the 31st....so what. We had to wait for it too long, so we don't care". It's rather crazy in my mind. There are a few old reviews I can find (when the watch still ran the proprietary OS) but as far as I can find, there are no current reviews with the watch running AW 2.0. Why!?
I really hope some proud new owners chime in and let us know how the watch performs running AW, and some details on real-world use.
The only one that I've seen receive their's is this person. For $199 new, that's pretty good isn't it? A refurb Huawei watch one would cost me $150 at least.

Oh, sweet! Good thread there with some pretty good initial info on the watch. Thanks for sharing the link.
Hi I just recieved mine last night and I am now looking around on the web for info/help with it. Ill give my first impressions of it here, Id like to be able to share my thoughts with Misfit so maybe they can take the feedback and improve it.
First off I am a formar Fitbit Surge user and liked it for the fitness attributes it had, before ordering the Vapor I bought a CHEAP $40 Kingware KW18 watch from China to see if id be ok wearing a larger watch such as these are. It had many short commings but also did some cool things.
First impression is the watch is well made and it has a great interface, I really like the touch navigation around the bezel.
Now for what I dont like about it:
- Heart rate monitor has to be manually activated each time and just does a short test. I want to have it on all the time and have the data graphed in the app, I understand that probably is a battery drainer but how about being able to turn it on during workouts so I know what my peak heart rate was riding my cycle up a huge hill for instance.
- Phone call answering - It lets you see an incomming call and decide to hang up or answer it from the watch, but if you answer it from the watch the call actually goes to the phone. You should be able to see the call and if your phone is handy answer it on the phone or if its not (say phone is in my pocket and i am driving) answer it on the watch and talk to the person through the watch as a speaker phone. THe cheap KW18 can do this.
- Displaying of info on the watch face - Id like to be able to select what info is displayed on the watchface, such as steps or calories burned. Seams simple enough, Fitbits, Garmins both can do this and is an expection for most people of a fitness watch.
- Sleep monitor, so I could be missing something when I set it up for this but when I synced it this morning it said I got zero sleep, gee I didnt feel that I got no sleep, I am tired but I did sleep some... If it cannot sense I am in a restful position on its on I hope it doesnt expect me to select something in the watch to say Im now sleeping....
- Charger - It is a non intrusive connection held onto watch with a magnet which is great but it doesnt stay on well at all. The cheap KW18 has a much better charger cable/interface.
- Misfit App - THis is on me as I could have downloaded this before hand and checked it out but basically it is pretty useless. Has very little info in it, does not food/water tracking and has no graphing ability that I could see. Will need to use the watch for a while to see if once there is data it then has graphs available with your daily/weekly/monthly activity...
Sorry to sound negitive but they tout it as a refined fitness watch but fitness is low on their prioritys from what I can see.

You can change the default watch face info at bottom of screen. Go to change face screen and click settings icon and you can change the 3 icons from in there to link to any app on watch incl Google Fit for steps, calories etc

Hi thanks I did manage to figure that out, a user manual would be nice. It still is not very accurate on the step counting and it isn't tracking sleep at all either.
~ Phil
I have a few to sell if anyone is interested
So update on my Vapor i was told by tech support it does not do sleep tracking at all and heart rate monitoring is a snapshot only when you trigger it.
Have no idea how they can tout the Vapor let alone Misfit as fitness focused.
Im sending mine back and looking at the Garmin vivoactive 3 or the Samsung S2.

Hello.
So I managed to get a OnePlus Watch when pre-orders went live about a month ago. It was delivered today. After spending almost 24 hours with it, here are my thoughts (might be a little long winded).
1. It is missing ALOT of basic features, chief among which are tap-to-wake and no Google app support. The no Google support is major seeing as you cannot sync apps to the watch properly. My LG urbane does a million more things than the OP watch does.
2. Heavy focus on fitness. I like that they're trying to get people more active but come on, at this point it's basically a fitness tracker. For the price they're selling for, there are much better options out there that are dedicated to fitness. This is meant to be a proper smart watch from a company that is trying to take on the big boys like Samsung and Apple (obviously they have very little chance against Apple but, they can at least give it a go). With their recent products like the OP 8 and 9 series, they're starting to tell the world that they're no longer going to hold back and that their Nord line is for users that are on a tight budget but want something "premium feeling". To come out with a smart watch that focuses heavily on fitness and 0 Google support or features was a mistake.
3. It was clearly rushed to market. Very obviously, it was rushed to market before it was even ready. Personally, I believe that the hardcore OP fans put pressure on them to release a budget friendly smart watch. OP caved and just released what they had. Given more time for development and refinement, this could have been a solid product and I would have happily paid around the £200/€200 mark for it.
4. Notification issues. This has to be in top 3 gripes about the device. When you receive a notification on your phone, it pops up on the watch like normal but, you can't do much with it. If it's a group chat notification and you're getting quite a few messages, the notifications will not stack into one. Instead, you'll get several notifications on the watch about it. Dismissing a notification from the watch also doesn't dismiss it from the phone too and vice versa. There have been several times where I've dismissed from the watch, only to look at my phone later and it still showing up there or vice versa.
5. Poor step counter accuracy. MKBHD pointed this out in his review. I thought that maybe it could have been an issue with his review unit but no, it's an actual thing with the watch. A normal work day would get me 5000-7000 steps according to my LG urbane, the OP watch only registerd 3300. How?
That's my little rant over
Anyways, what's your experience with the watch been like so far? Overall, this watch has a lot of potential but it was let down due to OP wanting to get it to market as soon as possible. This needed a lot more development time and refinement. I'll keep a hold of it for now and see what improvements they bring in the near future.
5H1R42
thanks for your reviews.
MKBHD made me hesitating ; ''buy for what is is, not what it will become''
Cyberpunk like, rush ****, and then is a kinda waste of money.
Anyway, since I did NOT own any watch, and I was looking for a simple smart watch that looks classy (not like a gadget) , I hit on that watch. It was a good 'deal' here in canada, since 20$ off, no duty fee, no shipping and only 1 tax.
Hopefully one plus wont let this watch down. They are pretty good for old phone updates anyway, I guess they will do it on this watch.
I also wish some dev do great port on this watch, I dont know it it will be possible tho...
Any idea how to change the firmware? I got one from aliexpress, when they went out of stock in the US, and it can't be paired with the oneplus health app, only with the chinese oppo app.
I think the firmware is way behind (A38, vs B48 as of today), and I would like to have the oneplus app and updates... Half of this app is in chinese.
Thanks

Thank you, I will try it.
Is there any hacky way to pair it to a iPhone for some alerts, until official iOS support arrives?
Hello guys. Help me pls
Updated to the global firmware and the exclusive watchfaces cyberpunk edition disappeared. Can you help me with the return of the cyberpunk firmware?
Contact 1+ and ask them about the watch faces, and see if you can liberate some firmware for our hopeful/eventually getting google wear on this B# either via official means or otherwise with the help of the sleepless xda unsung heros.
So I got the watch about the first wave from the store app (which I have not been able to reinstall since after the crash the 7pro had otw to 11) and I'm very impressed with the slick hardware... Shame on them not going the 'lazy' route and doing the Google wear thing, but instead doing their own thing and seemingly not even half-assing many a feature available on a cheap Chinese 30$ watch (with 3g/lte mind you) just because their æsthetic/simplicity metric. If I had nfc ability, the ability to just get coords via gps, or even midi sounds for timers then I could understand not using the hardware to full potential, but as some of the hardware isn't even being used right now, or at least the software provided doesn't allow it's use, the positive isn't much but here is what I got:
The damn thing at least lasts forever, even with 24/7 heart/0² monitoring... (I use only low light levels, no aod)
The first day I had it, I jumped in a pool and everyone was trying to tell me that maybe I should take it off, but it recorded all my strokes & movement amazingly well (if only it was exportable to kml/anything). I shower with it too, w/e.
Charge time is warped to a good ratio of charge/use, so realistically not much miss in data if monitoring is what you're after...
It's quite nice looking, responsive, and screen is anything but dainty. I don't think it's ever lagged.
The fact it does play music via BT is quite decent for a musician, as you can play someone your music on the fly considering there is a speaker with bt on in the vicinity. It's storage is huge as the space that could have gone to good use leaves gigs available...
I hope that oppo seriously gets to convince them that they must make wear a thing so we can choose to kill our batteries like we intend to, rather than have them force 2weeks battery life because it's good for them, rather than our choice to live with that allowance, or be realistic about how ridiculous we know we are being watching netflix on it...
It should be my call afterall. We'll see how it plays out, at least my sister with the iwatch was like "You don't have to charge it everyday, 2weeks!?” That made it almost acceptable...
