Rooting is safe as long as you know what you are doing
1. Download CF-Auto Root from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2219803, extract it once with 7-zip. Read the OP well for how to use it.
2. download Odin 3.04 from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/attachment.php?attachmentid=1094518&d=1338368405
3. Enable usb in developer options and connect with usb and flash CF-Root.
Reboot and you have root.
Well mate thanks alot .. but what im supposed to do in rooting beside moving apps and games to sd card ?

You won't save much space moving apps to SD card. The data files take up the most space in games and these can't be moved.
You can only move the apk file and there small.
It's pointless.

Well I saw someone on youtube move the data to sd card or making the sd card as device storage..if it wont work I dont need root then because I already moved the apk

Bump ..can any tell me if I can move data to sd card by any means??
Sent from my GT-I9505 using xda premium
Yes, you can but you need root and this app called Foldermount.

So where do I start....I'm new and as such I obviously have a question.....Hey all!
I've been following this thread (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2369130&page=36) for a while regarding rooting and flashing android 4.3 on my S4 (International LTE). I have done so and I love it.
My question is why can't I access all my internal memory (16GB of it), It only shows at 9.25GB ish free. I know the stock S4 used a lot of memory, but why, after a wipe/reset can I still not access it? I would have thought it would be gone.
Is it a case of it being needed for use by my newly flashed 4.3 ROM (is the ROM using it as the stock one did), or is it just sitting there being wasted? How could I wipe it and what are the implications of doing so?
If this has been asked before I haven't looked hard enough, please link me to the relevant thread and I'll dispose of this one.
Many Thanks
Anthony
You can't use it because it is the system partition. It is reserved space.

i am unable to find an answer to this, i have a galaxy s4 i337m from rogers
i used cf-auto root to root,
then used the one click tool to install CWM Touch 6.0.3.2
and then in recovery did a full wipe and reset
and installed [ROM] Google Edition 4.2.2 [Clean][Slim][280MB][2013.09.07]
everything is working well (great)
but free space was only just under 9 gigs, i thought google edition phone has over 12gb of available space, is this normal, is there something i can
do to get more space, did i miss something?
please don't recommend sd card as i already have one, i am just concerned where is my phone memory going?
That's how the S4 is partitioned. User-accessible amounts are not rom dependant. Cheers

Hey,
I previously installed Slimbean on my Galaxy S4 (jfltexx) 16GB. I was wondering why I only have about 9GB space left on my internal storage. So I googled the issue and found out that the Samsung Firmware needs that much space. So since I use Slimbean, why is there still only about 9GB free storage?
Are these old remains of the Samsung Firmware? And if yes how can I delete them so I get more storage?
thx in advance

The internal storage is partitioned but the partitions are not altered when you flash a different ROM. And so thats why you don't gain any extra space when flashing a smaller ROM like CM or slimbean.
You would have to flash an altered PIT file to change the space allocation like the discussion in the below thread. The risk of seriously messing up your ohone is high though and this also relates to the i9500 so it can't be used on a i9505

Definitely, you can pick up 32gb cards pretty cheaply now.
Also might be worth checking out this too, pretty useful.

You can buy models with bigger internal storage like GT-I9500, SHV-E300K/L/S or SGH-N045.

I simply use Foldermount from Play Store to move game data to the external SD. Since some games use 1.5GB+, this really makes a difference. The smaller files remain internal.
You can also mount the external SD as internal, then Android thinks the external one is the built-in. There are some flashable ZIPs in the development forums IIRC. Then you have the full-blown solution

hey m8, is there a way to re-partition without going back to the official samsung rom, people in that thread say that you cant flash a rom after you do that because the system partition would be too small, thanks
So I have a Galaxy S4, SGH-I337, MF3 build. It is not rooted. How do I backup all of my data to a computer or SD card? I would like to backup game data as well (in this case Puzzle and Dragons).
Sorry if I posted in the wrong place, I am new to both Android phones and this forum. Thank you very much.

Hey everyone,
I've been having issue where I cant download anything directly to my SD card. It occured after the 4.4 update. I get messages of insufficient space or download failed. I cant download pic, pdfs or videos. The only way I can save to SD is downloading to the device then moving it with the file manager. Any ideas?
Ive formatting the card a few times already.
Thanks
Brian

Hey Brian! This is a known issue. A quick search in this 4.4 update discussion thread of the in the Q&A section of the forum should've given you the answer. There's also a flashable fix in the development forum.
*Remember to search first before asking :good:
Thank you Kevin,
I did search the forums beforehand. Unfortunately all I could find were fixes for Rooted S4's. I received the official OTA two days ago. Would you happen to know where I could find a solution for my unrooted device?
Any help would be great.
Thanks!
piss on sammys KK...lol.. wait till one of these devs hooks us up with a rom fixed....
im running negalite v6 myself.. like i have room to talk, however if your rooted id go to stockish v6 untill something is updated...

Oh you're not rooted..well currently, I don't think there's any until Samsung realizes and pushes out a small update for the users not rooted.
You should root your device! Super simple process and a whole lot of benefits

It's not an issue, it is by design. Google wants you to use the cloud and not an sdcard to store data so they removed functionality of the sdcard with kit kat. Kind of like when they removed the ability to move apps to the sdcard after gingerbread. Hopefully Samsung will defy Google again and add functionality of the sdcard back in a future update like they did when they added the ability to move apps to the sdcard with mf9. But if you want to have it now you will need to root your phone.
Yeah that's tough not being rooted. I would be pissed a throwing a fit with Sprint. They've disabled a function of the phone. Seems like it could become a legal issue if the right people got involved.
All the more reason to root and live free.

Guys it's not a Smasung issue... It's GOOGLE that did it purposely. They are slowly trying to get rid of external SD cards for whatever reasons -__-

Reality is whoever is "at fault" ... you might as well sell me a 5 inch screen but only let me use 4 inches of it ... I purchased this phone because it has the sd card function. I might just call and complain to Sprint myself.

Sprint has nothing to do with it. IT IS GOOGLE!!!!!!!!! How many times does it have to be spelled out for you. GOOGLE wants you to use the cloud not the device. They want you to pay high data rates to use your content. Calling Sprint will do nothing, if you want to complain, flood Google with complaints about eliminating sdcard writing with Kit Kat! Or root you damn phone and fix it yourself.
