N4 shuts off - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

As of yesterday my N4 keeps shutting off at different times of the day. I didn't make any changes to it. I haven't gotten the 4.3 update yet.

Is the temperature on or outside the device hot?

Try a factory reset. (Remember to back up things you don't wanna lose)
If that does nothing good, you should probably return it to the place you purchased it from in order to get a warranty repair / replacement.

I had that with my GNex and it turned out to be my battery.

Only have access to 50% of my battery.

For the last week my nexus 7 has been completely dying around 50% battery. If its in sleep mode when it hits that % then it won't turn on, if I'm using it when I hit that % I get a weird flicker then it shuts off. This just seems extremely strange that all of a sudden only half my battery works. A long with only having half my battery to work with, it seems like the tablet has been charging a lot slower then normal. I use to be able to work it down all the time and usually didn't charge it until 5%-10%
Anyone else ever have this issue? I contacted Asus and there only solution right now was a factory reset. I cant see how that could fix the issue at all.

are you rooted? what type of kernel are you using?
I have read that sometimes a factory reset refreshes the battery settings. Is your device rooted or rommed out?

That happened to one of my friends S2's. Factory reset it. It worked for my friend. My N7 also charged really slow. I just changed the ROM. It is the same thing as a factory reset because you do one when you change your ROM.

As said before, try a factory reset !

Nexus 7 WiFi spontaneous shutdown on knock?

Hi all.
I have recently bought (about a month ago) a Nexus 7 32 gb WiFi model. After putting it down with a slight bump on the top right quarter of the back cover it just went off. When I put it back on the battery indicator was on 0% but it was on 80% when I put it down. Scoured the Internet, but couldn't find any one with the same problem. Warranty is still valid. Any one with the same problem and if so, do you think It will be covered by Asus? Any answer would be appreciated, thanks.

To me it sounds like a loose battery connection or broken component. RMA it. Yeah it sucks but it shouldn't be doing that.

Was thinking the same thing... Thanks anyway!

Rootchecker and returning to stock

Hey guys I'm on an AT&T D800... since Monday afternoon my phone had been unusable... it got extremely hot both front and back near the mid to top of the phone... and was just chewing through battery 31% in 15 minutes... so I powered down and left it numerous times on different stock based rooms and still no luck it would just overheat till it shutdown or battery died if I didn't turn it off... I managed to get it charged enough to restore my stock backup, unroot, and put the stock recovery back on and then did 2 factory resets with still no change... so I called at&t and they sent out a warranty replacement which will be here tomorrow.. so my question is do any of these return to stock methods actually clear rootchecker? That's my only worry that they'll see that and nail me the retail price of the phone... I didn't use a custom kernel just the roms...
I see conflicting stories from people saying yes it does it clear rootchecker and others saying no.. I would just try but I don't have WiFi so I don't burn up my months data just to find out it didn't work.
The phone seems to be working fine since I powered it up 2 hours ago but I'm worried about any residual/repeat issues or decreased lifespan of phone from the overheating issues
Thanks in advance!

Flashing a Stock .kdz works completely. Perhaps you should read this sticky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Thanks I've read that one before but I've also read other threads that say it still shows rooted when booted into download mode even after doing this reflashing

I'll give it a go though and see how it turns out

Not a problem here...
Cool then I'll follow that method.. thanks again

Did you check to see why the battery was being depleted so fast? I am willing to bet the phone itself was fine, but some app was utilizing the entire CPU, which would heat the phone up and kill the battery quickly.
Which means it's entirely possible you'll have that issue with the new one as well.

Yeah but after 2 factory reset there were only unused factory installed apps

The rom restores I can see that holding true but after 2 complete resets and not adding any apps... not even setting up any Google services I don't know what it would be

Battery is weird

Hi guys.after install slimkat my battery is acting weird.it shutdowns when in 22% or evento more.also when i restart the phone the % is way different then it was. And dont matter what% is. On the third reboot that i do the levrl drops to 1%.should i try recalibrating it?(let it shutdown then recharge it 6 hours with it turned off)?.
If i have to rma again.then i sell this thing because not even my China tab is giving all these problems.( my n4 was exchanged and the new gone to rma 2 times already in 1month!)

5days old p600 won't turn on

Just picked up a p600 and has been working fine on the CM 2.0 ROM. Today however i try to turn on and no matter which buttons nothing is happening. Only once I got it into the recovery and choose to boot system but again black screen. Have I a did and am I better off switching for snapdragon version?

When you can enter download mode (von down+power) try to flash stock rom with odin.
Wont even turn on at all black screen

Only once did it randomly go into trwp recovery but its seen like a fault not software issue. Hope I can get a replacement

Its dead nothing happening with any button combos. Battery was 90%. Losing faith with Samsung had to get a replacement for a note 3 previously and have now switched to a nexus 5. May get a refund on this and wait on the nexus 10 2014 model

My condolences mate maybe there is a way to reset it with ADB commands or something? Wait till you get another answer, I don't know too much about these things myself.
I tried unplugging battery for 15mins opened it very carefully. But no luck. I'm just really annoyed as I lost data and its rooted so swap is only option

What I didn't understand is why you not re-flash a ROM via recovery or flash a stock ROM via Odin to see if this solve your problem. That will be one of my first steps.
PS. Other options are connect the device in the black-screen-mode and check via adb if you can see anything. Maybe an access to log cat is her possible and to get an output to see what goes wrong.
I've been having the same problem.. I just bought mine on Monday. It has either shutdown it self or just doesn't want to turn on, but I have to press the power button and +- volume buttons to turn it back on.. Now, I'm just waiting for it to do it again so I can return it...

No response from PC at all via Odin and adb tried that its a fault
