Bringing task manager up faster - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Is there any way to make the task manager up quicker? Like maybe reducing the amount of time it takes to hold the home button.

Comm Manager

Hey
I have a small grip against Comm Manager. I use it a lot but I hate the fact that when you hit exit it actually stays open in the back ground (if you go into your memory settings and view active programs it will say Comm Mgr there)
Anyway to make it force Exit Comm Manager when I hit exit ?

Hi ludester..
Dunno if ya figured it out yet, but it is possible for u to ask the phone to shut down the progs(comm man. by just pressing, not holding the "X"
>settings>buttons>..go figure
kind regards
hold x
if you push on the x and hold it for a few seconds it turns off the running program. a short push on the x just minimizes it. you can also go to running programs and shut it off. hope that helped.
I haven't seen any tweak that will force quit an app or running process by just tapping X if it designed to keep running.
Wk task mgr works very well to force quit. Also shows the comm manager still open in an XP style task bar. Similarly you will see active sync running after a soft reset. (not just running in the background as you say)
Or just map a link to taskmgr.exe in the windows directory. Quick access to force quit any app or process.
I agree about your gripe concerning the comm manager kept running.
If you go to Start->Settings->System Tab->Task Manager->Button Tab, you can change the shut down command from tap and hold to just tap.

Is it possible to have a program always running

I use Calender SBHC a lot- its great. but everytime i try to get out of it, it closes. is it possible to force it to stay running in the background even if i press the X button in the top right.??
otherwise it takes time to load up each time
Don't close it with the cross, press only the ok the hardware ok button, it will minimize the app. And make the calendar in the taskmanager to an exclusive app, so it will not be automatically closed.
You can allso add it to the exception in the HTC task manager settings.
Start the program, go to settings, system tab, then Task Manager.
Long press on SBHC and click add exclusive .

auto-close programs

Are there any programs out there that allow me to fully exit a program when I press the "x" at the upper right hand part of the screen? It's very annoying to always have to go to task manager to manually exit many applications. It'd be nice to just click the X, and have the program automatically close.
install duytty's task manager, then you'll have the option of setting a short or long press of 'x' to close programs

Any quick way to switch applications/windows? (US HD2)

It's kind of frustrated for me.
When I have two applications running, for example, GPS and Email reading. In order to switch to GPS from Reading, I have to click Start->Home, where I have shortcut for Task Manager. Open Task Manager, from there, I can switch to GPS application.
Any other faster ways? Really miss that TAB switching in regular Windows OS....
I personally use LMT with task fascade. They work very well with each other.
try WkTASK.
or arkswitch...

You just extract alttab.exe and copy it to your Program Files and assign a button (I assign Windows button) to it with e.g. AEBplus:
http://ae.inc.ru/aebplus.php
Then this works just like Windows Alt+Tab by pressing just one button - you switch between your opened apps (home panel included though)
Also, you (just like me can assing a wonderful task manager
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=655853&highlight=mm+task+manager
to the green button, using same AEBplus (I use green button for calling a phone maybe only twice a day). Then you have two very quick ways to see/switch your running programs
Just for info: Windows button is the very center hard button, Green button is the very left button on HD2.
I mean that I never use the green button - I just use soft button (quick link on the home) to open the Phone, so using the green button to open MM Task manager is extremely convenient.
Thanks a lot, I will try tonight.
Dutty's task manager, MMTaskManager, Showcase, XTask just to name a few of the top of my head
duttys task manager is the simplest and best

If you are using WM 6.5.x Arkswitch is the best taskmanager imo.

Task switcher compatible with SGS button layout?

I'm looking for a task switcher that shows all running apps (and not like the default android one which only shows the 6 most recent). The ones I've come across seem to require a long press of the search button to activate, but the SGS lacks a dedicated search button.
Does anyone know of one that uses another shortcut, long press home / double tap home for example?
This is exactly what I'm looking for, but I've been searching through in market place for something that let's me assign program to hardware key action. No luck so far. Any experienced folks know if it's possible to customize the phone this way?
I have used taskswitcher and prehome..both function pretty much the same way...tap home button once shows all running apps and hitting it once more from the app switch screen takes you to the home screen. I kinda prefer prehome as it seems to use less memory but then again theres really not much of a difference imo..hope this helped..

Great recommendation. Will try it out. Thank you very much for sharing is.
Lovely. Pressing home will show the truly still running task instead of recently used ones. It's lets you kill or switch to any active program.
So, long press home to show last 6 most recently used programs
single press home will invoke the task manager, allowing killing and switching.
Double press home to really go to home.
Sounds like what I want. Seems a little buggy, but I'm happy with it at least for now.
