Try going to bootloader. Press vol+ and then power button.
nothing
no holding in button and putting in battery does not help, the only sign of life is a quick flash of white led when plugging in usb without battery, been quoted £60 to have it done by a repair place,

Hi umario
I've only done this a couple of times, so im no expert. One of my friends managed to mess up his phone, and when we flashed it the same thing happend to us (black screen). The phone did however connect to rsd, but the screen on the phone seems dead. Turn the phone on av push the volume button at the same time until rsd connect to the phone and flash one a rom from here:
Cant post links, but youll find a link in this post:

Some of these gave me the same situation (black screen), but i think the nordic (2.2.2 Service Flashes) worked fine. After flash connect to the net and let it update market ++ before you root it.
Good luck
Thank you, but not working. Nordic 2.2.2 service flash not extract. error on the rar.
I trying the DE, AT, CH 2.2.2, but not work. Your friend phone is Defy or Defy+?
Edit: Not working with nordic 2.2.2
RSD completed - restart the phone - finish...pass, but only empty black screen, and white led. Battery is charged.
This phone is Plus

Hello,
I'm sorry, but I think you knocked your Defy+ into a coma.
Check out the second section about the 3 different versions of the Defy here
So far, there is no full SBF for Defy+.

Hi, I have the same problem, I have defy, not defy+ already and tried to write it every soft and nothing helps. some tips
i have same as this problem
mine is mb525 with green lens
can you help me?
Just for the record...
I have recently revived my defy+ last night. Just in case google will lead someone else to this thread with the 'white light' problem I sum up some of my observations:
This happened with me when I tried to downgrade my OTA updated Defy+ (4.3.6, CG version 7) to a stock sbf (4.3.5, CG version 5 or 6... Kids, don't try this at home). No (visible) bootloader/recovery, just a white led turning on when it's on USB (not recharging, though...) It seemed like it was totally bricked. I didn't want to do the infamous macgyver hack, so I waited for a day and then have my battery charged by a Defy-owner friend of mine.
Here's the checklist (for windows):
- make sure battery is on 100%. After flashing, mine depleted to 50%... you basically have 1 shot. If not on USB, i'd suggest you to take the battery out to be sure bootloader is not draining your battery. Seriously, you have like 20 minutes before a 100% charged new battery depletes .
- install Motorola drivers
- download an appropriate SBF (if you had an OTA update on defy+ it will be most likely a dfp-231 version). Place it as close to the filesystem root as it gets and rename it to something shorter. RSDLite still has some issues with long paths...
- Run RSDLite as root AND IN WinXp SP3 COMPATIBILITY MODE!
- Volume up, power button, release power button, wait for a second and you're hopefully in bootloader mode. Try this over and over again, while RSDLite can see your phone. Try to re-run RSDLite or restart windows if nothing helps. It's always freakin' windows
- If everything's OK and the phone is recognized, flash an sbf as soon as you can. If everything goes well, you will be able to get it to 100% In the meantime you can see something on the screen like 'flashing in progress'. It was the first thing my phone said in the last 2 days.
- Be patinet, it takes about 10 minutes. It will say 'PASS' when it's done. You are on stock rom. From now you can charge your phone to 100%, root, 2dinit, and flash something that actually works
Hello there,
I apologize if the thread seem redundant, but I've already tried I found the forum about similar issues to no avail.
So I bought a bricked Defy on eBay for a couple of bucks and I'm trying to revive it. The seller said he bricked it after a flash that apparently when wrong.
The phone does not power on at all and doesn't even react when the power button is pressed. The white LED turn when I plug the phone to a computer. It does not turn on when plugged to a wall charger.
By using the "MacGyver" method, I have managed to make the phone show up in RSDLite. I have tried to flash multiple SBF images with different CG versions. Each time, the phone wakes up and shows "SW UPDATE IN PROGRESS" in blocky font but dies again once the flashing process end. RSDLite simply shows PASSED. Also every informations listed by RSDLite in the "Devices Properties" is shown as N/A except for the bootloader version and the last 4 lines.
Another issue is that I'm not even sure whether it's a DEFY or a DEFY+. The seller listed it as a DEFY+, however the battery that came with it is a 1540mAh and the lens seem to be green. I've tried to flash a DEFY+ before noticing this, so hopefully it didn't screw up the phone even more.
So, any idea? I would appreciate any help provided. Thanks!
The most important thing is to use the latest version of RSD and drivers.
I have a Defy plus and the same thing happened to me before (black screen even no bootlooder) so I connected my phone to the computer (I can't really remember if I powered with a vol up or not) but I got it recognized by the RSD. try connecting and powering on the the vol up if nothing just connect and see what will happen.
In my satiation, the phone got recognized in the RSD and remained black screen till I pressed start then it finally showed SU UPDATE.
The defy plus has a grey colored power buttons and screws but the defy is totally black
The most important thing is to use the latest version of RSD and drivers
And please tell me if it worked.
Thanks for the reply. Now I know I have a DEFY!
Unfortunately, getting the phone recognised isn't the problem. I can flash SBF and everytime the process seem to go without any error (RSDLite just show passed once it's done). But the phone is still completely bricked. I also tried the "TI Flash erase" option, to no avail.
I'll just try again a bit, then I guess I'll list it back on eBay.

Did you read Zephyrot's All-in-one thread? I guess you haven't...
Zephyrot said:
CG Versions
With that explained let’s get to business with versions:
CG Version 2: SBF 2.21 / 2.34 / Chinese (Éclair) (Defy)
CG Version 3: SBF 2.51 (Éclair) (Defy)
CG Version 4: SBF 3.4.2 (Froyo) (Defy)
CG Version 5: SBF 4.5.0 / 4.5.1 (Gingerbread) (Defy)
CG Version 6: SBF 4.5.1 (Gingerbread, 2.3.6, (Red lens Defy/Defy+) )
CG Version 7: SBF 4.5.1 (Latests Gingerbreads, 2.3.6, (Red lens Defy/Defy+) )
If you try to flash a lower ID version than the one already on your phone, you will just get a Black screen after booting or a screen telling you to flash an official rom.
So, with this in mind, you can now hop between Android versions without screwing up your phone.
If you have an Éclair Defy and would like to keep the ability to downgrade to it, you should ONLY install FIXED SBFs of the Android Version you want to install, and then use the corresponding Nandroid Backup for that Fixed SBF.

If you have flashed an SBF with a higher CG39 version than your original, there is a good chance you now own not a Defy, but a Defy+, which is not a huge issue, unless you need to get back your stock ROM for warranty purposes or if your phone has a green lense...
Well thanks for the reply, but my problem isn't that the phone fails to boot, but does simply not turn on at all. It's literally dead as a brick. I've already tried to flash pretty much every sbf under the sun (Including DEFY+ once) and the phone never turned on once (Not even the Moto logo or a bootloader error screen).
The only last thing I see might be a defective battery.
Yeah could be a battery. Get a cheap one ebay job and try a sbf then if it loads then great u can allways put cm7 or cm9 on it
defy cm7
Change your battery or charge with external charger (universal charger)
Or this may work

Hi there,
I bricked my Defy Plus from CM10, 2ndInit. I've wanted to flash again the original .sbf cause of warranty issues. I wasn't sure witch version I had on the original so I thought I'll go from one to one in the list of droid developers SBF( can't create link )
After flashing with RSD light there was 2 possible outcome:
1. Flashing completed normally but after device rebooted, it hanged at the Motorola Logo infinetly.
2. Flashing completed, but the device turned off itself, and after trying to turn on, nothing was rendered, HOWEVER I've noticed, that it can be still booted into bootloader mode, cause I could see it listed in the RSD Lite device list.
I thought that was the worst case scenario, turns out its not:
After flashing DFP-137 device cannot be turned on, won't apper in RSD Lite, nothing.
A symptem is, that if connected the white led glows.
Is it possible I bricked it to such state, that I've got no options? If not, what should I do.
I think the cell got supply, cause I licked it, and felt normal ( electricity was riding trough my thoung ).
Any tipps are welcome, hit me!

No, I figured for removing rooted state, I should reflash the full .sbf.
As I said, it feels charged, mb I'll try go for McGuyver charing method.
If I can reanimte my Defy into bootloading state, how do I know witch .sbf is the correct one??
defy problem
Dear All,
I had flashed Motorola defy plus with kitkat a month ago. As it was getting hanged, i tried to switch it to stock rom but the RSD lite is giving error while flashing everytime.
i have tried many sbf but it diidnt worked out. kindly let me know the correct procedure and the SBF should i flash.
Now its showing Motorola logo only and doesnt move ahead neither i am unable to reach stock recovery.
i did it all by charging battery from universal charger as i cant even charge my battery.
I am in need of urgent help and didn't want let die my DEFY PLUS

Hello and happy holidays!
I have recently bought a Defy+ and i wanted to root after about 2 weeks of use mostly for removing some bloadware and killing ads and more thingies...
As you can guess from this thread title i freaking bricked it...
So let me tell you what i have done until now.
A)I followed this one
http://www.ozbargain.com.au/node/82806
so i can flash it because no program like SuperOneClick was working.
My baseband was somewhere in the mid of these 2 (something like 60 i can't recall anymore)
According to some posts there even another one with my baseband could follow the second procedure
(http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1595013 ) and end up with a rooted defy+.
I flashed it and was the screen stayed black... Well at the time i could thing that this was bad... I flashed the other 2 and i was waiting in vain...
B) after this complete failure came the funny part... I DONT REMEMBER anything about my stock sbf  ... Seriously it didnt cross my mind to write it down.
So i started trying to flash it with the Unbrick your Defy+ guides.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828639
Tried the site http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php
i even tried this one http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1820282 in case it had a good effect. Well it hadnt
Until now i am still in the company of a lovely black screen...
MY CONDITION NOW :
RSD 5.6 at first before B step went to 5.9.
1) Insert battery = black screen
2)Power button = black screen
3)Power button pressed with VOL + or - , insert battery = black screen!
4)My pc (win7) finds the phone + White Led
5)RSD detects it cause i can flash it. (about 10 times now...)
6)Phone can be charged (Thank you God)
7)Every single one sbf goes Finished- PASS...
Some more information.
- I am from Greece and the Rom used Greek(localization stuff)
- The Rom had Blur (God Damn it)
- Android was 2.3.6
/EDIT
-RSD report that i have Bootloader version v0x000910 on phone...
Android Play store reports my Defy+ as "Vodafone Motorola MB526". (Should i go for Vodafone singed packages?)
I have read almost any thread for the broken Defy+ but the real problem is that i can not recall my stock sbf
And the questions from here...
a) Is there a way to see my bootloader version while in this messed up state? (and does it even matter?)
b) If it was a Vodafone Blur there would some dinstict features i could have seen? ( so i can start flashing vodafone sbf again...)
c) http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php has only full sfb right?
d) Suppose i had a v6 sfb,If i tried a higher sfb version wouldnt the phone worked?
e) I have tried all the http://sbf.droid-developers.org/umts_jordanplus/list.php that is Retail Central Europe (GR_SIGN) but i have failed should i tried them again?
-EDIT- (forgot questions after my chrome crashed)
f) Should i try all 2.3.6 Roms from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=966537
g) DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.x . This x does it play any role? If anything fails should i try the last chinese one(DFPRC_U_4.5.3) ?
I am sorry for the long post but i am a little at loss here...
Thank you for your time even if you have just read all this and dont know anything

Well i tried about 6 sbf with dfp 231. From DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-231_CN that is used for bl7 root (the first one that made the black screen my lovable partner) to British/retail CEE/unknown/ o2 / vodafone /german / nordic and nothing happened. All Finish /pass and all black screen + white led.
RSD report that i have Bootloader version v0x000910 on phone. I hope this can help in some way...
I decided to try all the 2.3.6 sbfs... let's see...
Hm...
i just flashed
DEFYPLUS_U3_4.5.1-134_DFP-312_TMOUK_SIGN_USADEFYEMARAB1B8TMDE011.0R_PDS03C_USAJRDNGIBRTMDE_P029_A033_M008_Service1FF
and phone stuck at reboot manually your phone. and now is dead. Cant connect to pc. nice...
You may have ran out of battery. If the dfp 231 flashing resulted in a black screen after a data wipe then you should try selecting the blank flash option. Also try a different cable. If still there's a problem then it'd reckon it's hardware failure
About the boot loader code, yeah it's fine but unfortunately is no help

THANK YOU for your time and your responses.
What do you mean blank flash? Its the first time i come across this term.
My speculations was also that i am out of battery so i ordered an external battery charger from ebay just to be sure.( i have seen the mcgyer way but i am afraid to do it cause everything are going south at the moment so just to be sure )
I have also came across the idea of the factory cable. From the threads here in xda there is a user who actually tried one on a defy (MB525) so i am thinking of ordering one of these.
NEW INFO. Android Play store reports my darling dead Defy+ as "Vodafone Motorola MB526". I think i should turn to Vodafone Blur singed packages. What do you think?

Wait.Factory cable loads directly the bootloader while Mcgwer trick just gives power to the phone.
And i think factory cable its safer when you use it because the phone is actually waits to be given a 5V supply in that pin and there is not a chance of frying anything,
I think... :S

Hey guys! I've been given a friend's Motorola MB525 Defy to fix. He's relatively uneducated when it comes to ROM's and bricked the device, and I'm assuming the phones battery died whilst flashing. It currently has no android OS and I'm not too confident that it has a bootloader/recovery at present either.
I've got some experience with Motorola Androids/Flashing etc, I've done extensive work on Motorola Milestone and older RAZR devices which also used RSD so I'm hoping this isn't too different.
In short, it won't turn on, and I've tried literally every suggestion known to man.
It will not charge with a wall-charger. The white LED flickers as I plug it in, but then does not charge regardless of how long its plugged in.
When plugged into a USB on the computer, it does not charge (as expected), and the white LED shows up. Still the device won't boot.
I've since purchased a replacement battery and am still facing the same issue. It won't charge and wont boot.
I've attempted the McGyver trick on the previous battery and that didn't work out, so I'm going to try that on the new battery and see if that manages to jumpstart the device.
Can anyone else suggest any possible solutions here?
First: try with charged battery, if it not helps - try with macgyver metod - you should see white led lights up, if that not helping - i think it most likely will no bootloader inside chip - this can happen for etc. dead flash chip, but most likely it will a critical part while formating with RSD - unplug phone when RSD lite shows formating memory - you'll see black screen with no bootloader ... Try this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1828639 .Good luck while saving your defy.

Try another SBF. I had the same issue. Get one for your country or even your provider. I live in Spain and first flashed the CEE SBF which didnt work. I then found the Vodafone Spain SBF which worked instantly. As long as RSD Lite sees your phone, it is not dead, it just needs the correct image.
