[Q] Debloating and Samsung Apps - Sprint Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshoot

Hey so I know there are a lot of roms that debloat the phone a lot but if your on stock its difficult to know what apps you can safely remove without effecting the Samsung apps you want. So my question is can anyone create a list that shows whats needed for each samsung app so when your uninstalling all the bloatware you know whats actually needed and whats actually bloatware? I know it might be a stretch but it would be much appreciated. Thanks

[Q] Sprint Navigation

Hello!
Where can I get Sprint Navigation for Froyo? And most important question how can I install it? I'm trying to restore it from my Backup from Eclair but I couldn't do it.
Can somebody help me with it?
Go to viper rom thread in development section. In the 3rd post there are links to stock samsung apps and stock sprint apps with how to install them. Do you like sprint nav better than Google Nav? Why? Just curious

Thank you very much! I've got it.
About your question: I like Google more but sometimes Sprint Nav works very fast. It is loading very slow. It is just an opinion.
Thank you very much again.

Stock launcher editing

Hello guys!
I don't have 10 posts yet and because I don't want to spam I just ask this question here in the general section.
I'm on Paranoid Android 3 and the Rom is known for alot customization options but where can I find the launcher settings? I couldn't find any way to edit the row number or space between icons etc.
With expanded Desktop everything looks kinda mixed up (in my opinion) and not that well designed.
I would appreciate it if you could answer my questions or show me how I can solve the problem myself.
I will upload a screenshot of my homescreen too and I hope you can image what I'm trying to say
Cheers

Wish list

Apologies in advance if this is in the wrong section.
This is basically my wish list of mods for the S4. I'm not a developer, but if anyone who is can work these out I'm sure I wouldn't be the only grateful person out there!
1. Additional notifications in the S View window. It'd be nice to have it support Google Music and other apps.
2. Enable Air View on other gallery's chrome, Gmail etc.
I don't know how much is Touchwiz specific or how much is app specific. But it'd be nice to have

What is lost upon root and rom install?

Ive been searching these forums for about a month about the s4 which I now own. I used to have a samsung infuse and was very active on the xda infuse forums. When rooting that phone infuse users lost a lot of features like mhl hdmi, hi res cam etc. With rooting the s4 what is lost? From what I can find it seems like only the air gesture features are lost. What else is lost and is it that way on all the roms. I want to root this device but not if I lose things like bluetooth or cam. I maybe can deal with no air gesture things. Thanks in advance. Sorry if this is answered I have tried to find as much info as possible before posting here.

If you stick with stuff in the Android dev (stock based ROMs with TW) section and not the Original dev, you won't loose anything. Just pick one that keeps that stuff, or has a flashable add on for it. Some remove it to keep the ROM lite if the dev feels not many use the feature.

[Q] Nexus 4 on Kitkat: no new UI or Google Now

Hello everyone!
I just updated my Nexus 4 to Android 4.4, but it seems there has changed as good as nothing. (I was running Nova Launcher when I was updating, if that is relevant).
I don't find any of the new functions of the new android version: normally you can just swipe from the left to acces google now, but not on my Nexus. Everything seems to be just like android 4.3: the appdrawer, the homescreens, ... There are only a few things that have actually changed: the icons, the settings menu and the lockscreen.
I thought the problem could have been that I was running Nova Launcher while installing the update.
Does someone know what I can do to have the full Kitkat experience? I've already deleted Nova Launcher by now and the stock Launcher is set as default.
Could a clean install help me out?
PS: I can post some screenshots later if my explanation here isn't clear.
Thanks in advance!
Are you sure you updated? And are you sure you set Google search as your launcher in the launcher settings?

Search for and install Googlehome.apk
Nexus 4 KitKat update is different from Nexus 5. For example 4 is missing the new Google Experience launcher, transparent lockscreen. For GEL just install Google Home. For full transparent lockscreen flash this fix http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2527525.
Also if you like Nova launcher, join Nova launcher beta group on Google+ and became a tester. Nova beta supports transparent bars (you need enable it in settings).

Don't we already have a 4.4 discussion thread where it's been answered days ago several times. The shear number of duplicate threads is unbelievable.

Why would you post that comment with the hope of stopping repeat posts without linking to the original post you referenced?

To make them use the search.

Which will direct then to all of the threads with the same content, of which they will choose the wrong one to use. This will result in endless..... Never mind. I don't know why I'm even bothering.

I'm not sure why you bothered ether since we are both technically in the right.
Forget search it's lately almost always at the top of general (excluding sticky threads). If you can find how to post a new thread I'm sure you can find a highly active thread in general.

It's just that the constant “use the search” type of replies are about as effective as the war on drugs. You can take a dealer or user off the streets, but that will not do anything to actually impact the level of drug use or distribution. Likewise, there will always be people who don't use the search, so why not just ignore them so the thread dies, or actually offer a helpful response.
I'm more in the right. But that's probably because I'm awesome.

I'm addicted to tech, so I think it was a fair comparison.

Thanks for the quick replies!
Installing Google Home did the job for me.
And excuse me for not searching the forums first, I'll keep it in mind for the next times.
