[Q] Annoying dark gradients at top and bottom of N7? - Nexus 7 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

It's super annoying when trying to make a seamless home screen. Currently running AOKP and was hoping that there would be a way to remove these gradients without installing a custom launcher as I don't think my colour setup would work on a different launcher.
Apologies for not placing a link here: Haven't made enough posts.
How can I get rid of these? Thanks

New to hd2...a few questions

Just upgraded to an hd2, how did I live without this massive screen
I have been busy installing radios,roms and apps since I got it...but I cant find the answers to the following...any ideas;
1) Opera + Flash
I have Opera10 installed, I see people mention that you can enable it? How? Im using NRGs latest rom (Cookie Home Screen)...i prefer opera to skyfire...would it be easier going back to an older version?
2)
When moving the slider, the background is kinda blacked out a little...but the slider (bg) stays bright. I seen a mod that tints the slider but leaves the icons bright...now I cant find it again. Anybody know what Im talking about?
3)
I want to clear the bg of the taskbar (just icons left) so I can see more of my bg (Also so when it locks I dont have a black bar at the top)...but I want to leave the soft keys at the bottom black (im using win 6.5.x)
4)
Like I said in 1)...Im running NRGs rom...does the accelerometer not make sense landscape in all tabs?
Any help would be great, thanks in advance!
Thought i would bump this incase anybody could help

[Q] weird glow around borders in Cyanogen-Roms

Hello, thread-reader,
I have a weird glow around the borders from widgets in every Cyanogen-Roms i've tried. Is there a way to get rid of these?
This happens only in Cyanogen-Roms for me, in Sense or Miui roms everything is normal.
Also this doesn't seem to be Launcher- or Widget-related, I've got these glow with with launcher pro plus, go-launcher and also with the adw-launcher, that is shipped with the rom and also with the Poweramp-Widgets, the fancy widget H7C-Clock, the Launcher Pro-Widgets etc.
At the moment I am using the "[22.SEP.11][MAG/cLK] TyphooN CyanogenMod 7 Nightly v3.6.5 [2.3.5][A2SD][tytung r12]"-Rom with Launcher Pro Plus and NTSense-Theme.
Also, while scrolling through the Homescreens, the glow goes away but comes back as soon as the homescreen is focused.
In my attachment are two pictures that are showing the glow. In the first look at the clock at the sun and at the borders of the white "flip-numbers" of the clock.
In the second picture I am scrolling and the glow goes away.
I hope to get some answers that may help to get rid of these.

TabletUI VS PhabletUI Vs PhoneUI

So Actually I was going to write a thread about the two themes present in the samsung's TouchWizUI: White and Blue.
My Galaxy Tab 2 P3100 i.e. tab shows me only white theme while the phones shows the blue one.
But while messing with the LCD density I found that the firmware Actually has both of the themes.
so I started experiments on my tab with different LCD Densities and found that while we have both of the themes but we actually have all the three UIs with us too.
It's been the 4.1.1 update that made me loose my fav tabletUI and make it to the PhabletUI.
By changing Lcd density, we can see the changes in the UI.
Please see the attachments for Screenshots.
Range:
Below 140 is the TabletUI with the white theme.
Between 140 and 160 is the PhabletUI with white theme
Above 160 is the PhoneUI with the BLUE theme
though changing LCD density to other than 160 will make the touchwiz home and keyboard app to crash.
but using alternatives [launcher and keyboard app] can make it cool.
also densities greater then 160 [phoneui] will also cause the camera app to crash and the UI will change the camera Icon with a cute little green android.
Review:
TabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) There is no bar on the top
3) Notification bar opens from bottom
4) Battery percentage Is displayed
5) Even on rotation to the landscape, button bar [The one with the back, home and recent buttons on, sorry don't know the name for it] stayes at the bottom
6) In lockscreen only bottom bar is present
PhabletUI:
1) Samsung white theme is seen
2) Bar on either side of screen i.e. Notification bar on top and the action bar [let us give it a name] at bottom.
3) notification comes from top
4) notification bar doesn't fill the screen
5) no battery percentage indicator
6) On rotation each bar stays at there respective position.
7) lock screen differs from tabletUI as there is only top bar not the bottom one.
PhoneUI:
1) Samsungs's beautiful blue theme is seen.
2) UI almost same as PhabletUI with each bar on either side of the screen
3) Notification fills the home screen like what happen in a phone
4) When orientation changed to landscape, the Bottom action bar shifts to the right
5) Gestures in the bottom bar used to open google ow is not present.
6) Battery indicator is blue in color while it is green on the other two modes
7) When connected to PC via USB, Battery indicator neither shows a cross mark nor it shows charging.
8) Settings menu now don't have the dual panel
9) Camera icon replaced by android icon
100 Camera app is crashed
I also see a little performance boost when in phoneUI made.. may be because of no TouchWiz mode.
[Note:
Remember to install a launcher before changing the LCD density because it will make your TouchwizUI to crash and you will not able to select your apps from the app drawer.
Rather you can also put your build.prop editor in the homescreen shortcuts so than you can use it from there. but make it before the changes, you will not be able to make changes in homescreen shortcuts as it is a part of TouchWiz home and on opening, it will crash.
Your replies are appreciable.

This is why its best not to mess with stuff you dont understand lol... http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2081640
Easiest way to change modes is to use a custom ROM. AOKP being the better choice. DPI changer built into the ROM If you wish to add a custom theme ( set it to 159, default being 160) and you can switch modes via ROM control and a quick reboot. I'm sure the OP knows what hes doing , just giving some advice to less experienced users.

I know that custom roms have better control on modes but the motive of this post to tell others that we already have the three modes with us along with the two themes ON STOCK ROM.
For those who don't want to shift to a custom rom or argue that we lost our UI after updates. This post is for them.
Less experience lol
I agree with you totally , but the amount of threads in this forum where people have messed with stuff not knowing what they are doing are plenty. Hey I was one of them when I joined the forums :crying: I've had bootloops by the dozen and even totally bricked a device by flashing the wrong thing on to it , an expensive mistake to make.
I actually like the stock ROMs , just that i prefer total control over the ROM i use, a personal choice ....same as yours ! I was just offering advice to new users. Basically make sure you know what you are doing before you do it or use something that's designed for the job if you dont.
Finding out how to recovery from a bootloop and how to restore a device from a nandroid is a must.
I do find it strange why people stay on stock , not even with root access.Surely that's what the spirit of Android is about, what makes our tabs different from the locked down nature of the iPad. Obviously its the users choice as they paid for the device , just an observation.
Have fun with your DPI

we won't learn to stand unless we fall.
okie I was infant about the bootloops. but I've learned from it.
I've previously use many custom roms and flashed my xperia many times. even bricked it a lot. Flashed , bricked and recovered.
I guess thats how u learn.
and regarding staying at stock was because this tab and its TouchWiz is new to my hand and want to learn it before trying something.
Trust me custom roms are not so far from me.
Amen brother ! If you have never had a bootloop you're not an Android fan
I actually got the phone UI by mistake on AOKP M1 > http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=33898491&postcount=440 ,seems really strange on a tablet. But was fun messing with it. As for stock....Just about to flash the new official-ish JB on to my tab and give it a spin , be rude not to IMO.
Get a custom ROM on your tab you will love it, what you got to lose ? Can always flash back.
If you are concerned about warranty issues > http://www.xda-developers.com/android/triangleaway-reset-flash-counter-tool/ :good:

Strange wallpaper issues on CM10.1

Hi all,
Sorry, I'm a long time reader, but new poster to the forums, so I cannot actually add this to the appropriate dev thread. I am having the same issue as described here: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=41419120#post41419120
Unfortunately, the issue is a little bigger than just what is shown there, so I will be as specific as possible.
1. Using the Trebuchet launcher that comes with CM10.1, if I load a standard (non-live) wallpaper, while a standard wallpaper is currently being used, I get the results shown from the other post. If I select a live wallpaper first, and then select a standard wallpaper, it displays correctly. This would be sufficient enough work around, however, the working space in Trebuchet with the device in portrait does not resize properly, so there are huge gaps at the top and bottom of the homescreens that cannot have icons / widgets placed. This is a major usability issue.
2. Using a third party launcher, like Apex or Nova, the wallpapers always have the shown issue, however, they provide the full workspace for placing icons and widgets onto the device. Nova appears to behave a little better, but the visual layout makes things appear very phone like (icons appear somewhat magnified - not quite sure how to describe this, but I will try to get some screen captures to include here in the AM).
Overall the device behaves perfectly with these few exceptions. Unfortunately this is my wife's device, and she is less tolerant of finnicky behavior (she's been living with an iPhone for her last phone cycle, so is tired of the finnicky behavior). Unfortunately, the only response I've found to the previous poster was "Use a different launcher", so I'm hoping someone out there has some other ideas suggestions!
P.S. After doing a little further messing around, I downloaded a random large sized wallpaper image and tried using it - in Trebuchet, it appears to load correctly, as it does in Nova. In Apex, it almost looks right, but along the very bottom, there is a thin line, just a couple of pixels high, where you can see a very similar thing to what is shown in the other post, where it almost looks like part of the image is being duplicated and shifted to the right.

[Q] Alliance ROM help - White Text on Grey Backgrounds

HI all,
So I'm at a loss and hoping someone could point me in the right direction. Installed Alliance ROM onto my Verizon Note 3. So far I'm quite impressed with the ability to customize so many aspects of the interface. But my noob status working with android is causing me to get confused. I'm encountering a UI element that is used in popup menus that currently is displaying white text on a light grey background (as seen in the attached images) Could someone show me where to find the adjustment to change that UI element is?
Also I was a fan of the ability to swipe and launch the camera on the Stock ROM, but I was able to set my preferred app on stock. Don't see anything listed under Default Applications, also when I look at the stock camera's App Info, the Clear defaults button is greyed out. I'm unable to choose which app I want to launch since installing this ROM. I found a workaround by setting Shortcuts to Custom and selecting my app that way, but I liked the Stock ROM's grey button as opposed to using the apps actual icon.
Thanks for any help you can send my way,
Josh
Anyone have any ideas about the grey background. I'd appreciate any help, thanks

In AllianceRom Custom Settings under Colors, go to Background -> System and you can change the background of most system apps/menus, it is a universal change but you can enable/disable apps effected in the Whitelist menu.
Thanks for the idea! I'm trying but still can't seem to get that gray background to change. Any other thoughts would be appreciated.

You could try wiping cache/davlik in SS, or try flashing a theme like All Backs Black. Other than that the only other thing I can think of is wiping/flashing the rom and starting over but that seems like overkill.
From what I know, I asked the same question in the ROM thread and the answer was this is a bug they are gonna have fixed in Build 2.
Thank you so much guys for the ideas and info. I was going crazy trying different combos of settings to get it to change. I'll look into trying a theme. I was already flirting with the idea of having to try doing a full reinstallation. But if its a known bug I can deal with it, the benefits of using this ROM so outweigh the annoyance of the grey menus. Thanks again!
