Signal help

So I bought this phone about a week ago, and have noticed something rather odd...the signal is never locked, it is either emergency calls only or mobile network not available or it does work...but when it does work it lasts for like 3 minutes... I live in Honduras and don't know what the issue might be.. I used to have a captivate and had the best signal one can ask for...any help?

Try flashing a different modem. Check siky_dudes thread in dev section.
silkys thread is only for cm7/cm9/miui modems!

Im running ics aokp milestone 4...the problem persists...is there any modem thread you guys can refer me to?

It'll not help to flash another rom or modem! I had the same problem, tried almost every modem/rom but couldn't solve it. I think one out of 100000 i9000's has signal problems.
I don't recommend to do this;
I used to solve it by plugging in an isolated copper wire into the coaxial input on the back of the device. Here's a link to the thread I started with two videos.

Dude, give that thing back if you can!! Nothing will help! You can do whatever you want, but you'll never achive more than 7-15% more signal and that's nothing relevant!!

First of all you should determine what might have caused the error.
Signal problems can be caused by hardware, software or network provider:
- If the problem occurred after a software update (which is usually change the modem driver) You should flash back the old modem
- If you didn't update or change firmware or the modem it can be a hardware issue (dropped phone, water damage etc.) If you don't experience hw you wouldn't disassemble.Give it to someone who has experience in this topic.
- Sometimes signal problem can be cause by the network provider (network error or upgrade) It is usually temporary problem you have to wait and get good signal few hours/days later.
I hope I helped in the first step to get to the final solution.

Constantly losing signal. Am I alone?

Hi everyone, I've noticed a small problem on my phone ever since I've purchased it. Many times the phone's signal simply goes off, what really annoys me is the constant packet data loss, sometimes I havs to reboot the phone to get my mobile networks back on. Changed kernels several times same with ROMs but that doesn't seem to be a solution. I did not make this thread to ask for help but of curiosity if I'm the only one with this. Kind of reminds me of an iPhone video I've seen long ago about how it loses signal once you put your finger on the corner.

110+ views and just 1 reply? Can you people atleast bother telling me if you do get it or not?
It happens. Usually, if my signal is lost, I'll activate the flight mode then deactivate it afterwards. Its like "restaring the signal". Otherwise, search at google play for signal booster.

I have the same problem here, I had another phones that has signal almost everywhere I go, but my Galaxy Y loose signal even when its not moved! My sister has a LG E400F, and the signal is preety good. Really annoying.
Btw, I have a bug, when I am only in emergency call, my phone shows signal bars, like if I had signal. Anyone have this bug too? And is only on stock rom.
EDIT: The bug that I have is from the firmware UTKL from Brazil, I tried another firmware version and have no bugs.
Think I'm gonna send an email to Samsung. Wonder if it's hardware related.

good thing I have good and consistent signal with my SGY.
I have two SGY cellphones, both have strong signal even when I'm inside a building.
I hope you can find answers to your prob.
my signal is like that last 2 weeks ago... my brother and classmate who own SGY lost signal also but its now back to normal i think its our phone has a problem maybe if they released a new firmware.. it will solved this
same problem here bro...my SGY loosing signal too even you are not moving i can get signal in the office but other places i cant get signal
im with you
well from my observation mybe this is related with busybox version you have installed. I recall you mentioned using custom kernel right. try reflashing stock rom or try another custom roms. i previously have signal related problem with chobits rom when I updated the busybox.
I'm also losing the signal of my SGY.
And sometimes it is in weird state that my signal is at 3 bar but status says that it is for 'Emergency Call' and I can't call or even text.

3g issue

why when always turn the Internet on 3g,thay being WDCMA, the signal turn off? same thing at all custom roms..?

This is not a common issue. All quarx ROM's, from CM10 to CM10.2, has 3G working properly. Try to do a clean install, wiping cache, dalvik, data and system.
EDIT: I was reading, and found about 3G and phone call proplems on 3.x kernels, so, check if this is your case.
I tried different roms of CM7,Miui,Wiui,but the same thing.. Now I'm on MokeeOs 4.3.1..neither know how to switch from E to H.. Shouldn't that bee in H? I mean 3g? I forgot to tell that I have MB525 red lense

I don't understand what you are tryin' to say..
Pf, sorry for my grammar. It's not my first language.. What I'm trying to say it's that I has the same problem on any roms that I used. Whenever I switch from 2g to 3g my signal dissappear. And doesn't come back until I switch again 2g.and it's not something wrong with the rom.. I don't even know what it's wrong with my cellphone :banghead:

Uhm .. When I go to 2G , the signal dissapears for some seconds.. It happens that when I go from 2G to 3G , but it comes back. Maybe it's the phone ? Or maybe the SIM ?
I donno, i think its the SIM..

posted in wrong forum -_-
try changing your rom
In the same boat. Pretty much nothing helps.
error RIL
I too, have this error RIL with all roms I've used, even until all stock, I just turn on the mobile network 10 seconds after the error occurs.
My only solution was actually deletes the file "/system/etc/motorola/bp_nvm_default/File_Audio4." the baseband, it did not bring any more RIL bug me and I can access the 2G quietly but has its drawbacks, the signal becomes unstable and voice call is muted but only pass the baseband back to the original state.
sorry my english
Undervolting too much is one of the factors. However, if this issue occurs on stock vsels and on different roms/baseband/radio, there is nothing that can be done
