S4 gets warm really quick... - AT&T Samsung Galaxy S 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshootin

Ever since I started flashing Roms and everything of that sort my phone seems to get fairly warm or hot quickly. Even when I'm just browsing the internet. Currently, I'm running a Google edition 4.3 ROM. Any suggestions or fixes for.this?

Is it just that rom or have you tried orhers. It could be because 4.3 is a beta.?

Maybe but I wouldn't wait. Root and install a custom kernel and/or rom to smooth it out. I did and made a difference because the lag was just too annoying.
figures i just took back my white s4 cause the data would take mad long to pop on after i shut wifi off that phone was so smooth they gave me a new s4 i picked black this time but this one is deff a lil laggy wish i just stayed with the white.. i screwed my self i paid restock fee and had to get a new screen protector.. dude was mad in the store he wanted me to wait 2 days so they could order me a s4.. i wanted one that day.. he was all mad? said it looks bad on him.. i didnt undrstand that at all
Lag? Did you try turning off s voice activation from home button? That's the only time I noticed a hint of slowness.

Like its lag sometimes when using keyboard, When opening apps, The gallery, taking pictures. It's just really laggy every now and then and this is my second black S4 so I hope they fix it asap

I've never had any lag at all. This thing was smoother than my Evo Lte with Viper rom out of the box.

honestly when I read this I thought "what lag?" I never had any lag issues before. Granted, I'm picky and a tuning junkie so I implemented ktoonsez's kernel with frandom support and crossbreeder anyway. The result? My phone is LIQUID smooth.
I'm not sure if I wanna root this or not yet

Go to developer options and turn off window & transition animation and animator duration. ....

Yea I did that already .

ForceRom with Ktoonz kernel has my phone running smooth as butter. Not to mention my performance and battery life has been off the charts with it! See below.

Funny I was on stock and had no lag what so ever and now that im rooted and running custom rom im getting lag quite often.

is it just me?

okay ive been seeing a lot of bug reports, systemui crashes on 4.3 roms, even on stock 4.3. if this update was so important and everyone says its better why all the bug reports? im honestly thinking of reverting back to 4.2.2. it seemed a lot more stable. just seeing if anyone has the answer to all these damn bugs.
I haven't experienced any bugs using my Nexus 7 with Android 4.3, both on stock and PA. It may seem that many people are experiencing bugs, but there may also be x times more that do not experience them and simply keep their mouth shut.

Stock rooted 4.3. No issues here.
Try to reflash stock ROM.

Bugs? What bugs? I got 4.3 OTA (I run stock on the 7), rooted it and haven't looked back. I'm currently at 17 days uptime, seems perfectly stable to me.

Yes. Its just you.

So I am getting random reboots like crazy in 4.4.1+

So ever since I installed a 4.4.1 or 4.4.2 based ROM
I have been getting Random lock ups to where it freezes then reboots
The only few things I can think of is to reflash stock image and start over or get a new charger because my current charger is kinda a cheap one
Any suggestions?

Rootchecker and returning to stock

Hey guys I'm on an AT&T D800... since Monday afternoon my phone had been unusable... it got extremely hot both front and back near the mid to top of the phone... and was just chewing through battery 31% in 15 minutes... so I powered down and left it numerous times on different stock based rooms and still no luck it would just overheat till it shutdown or battery died if I didn't turn it off... I managed to get it charged enough to restore my stock backup, unroot, and put the stock recovery back on and then did 2 factory resets with still no change... so I called at&t and they sent out a warranty replacement which will be here tomorrow.. so my question is do any of these return to stock methods actually clear rootchecker? That's my only worry that they'll see that and nail me the retail price of the phone... I didn't use a custom kernel just the roms...
I see conflicting stories from people saying yes it does it clear rootchecker and others saying no.. I would just try but I don't have WiFi so I don't burn up my months data just to find out it didn't work.
The phone seems to be working fine since I powered it up 2 hours ago but I'm worried about any residual/repeat issues or decreased lifespan of phone from the overheating issues
Thanks in advance!

Flashing a Stock .kdz works completely. Perhaps you should read this sticky: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2432476
Thanks I've read that one before but I've also read other threads that say it still shows rooted when booted into download mode even after doing this reflashing

I'll give it a go though and see how it turns out

Not a problem here...
Cool then I'll follow that method.. thanks again

Did you check to see why the battery was being depleted so fast? I am willing to bet the phone itself was fine, but some app was utilizing the entire CPU, which would heat the phone up and kill the battery quickly.
Which means it's entirely possible you'll have that issue with the new one as well.

Yeah but after 2 factory reset there were only unused factory installed apps
Sent from my LG-D800 using XDA Premium 4 mobile app
The rom restores I can see that holding true but after 2 complete resets and not adding any apps... not even setting up any Google services I don't know what it would be

I was using baja rom with insane battery life up until I installed the kit kat leak. And as soon as baja gets the kit kat rom uploaded I will be going back.

I second this. CleanRom is my most favorite rom. I've used all the roms just to be fair and try them out - I found Beans pretty good - Baja had similar battery life (easily 1.5x + stock) - CleanRom seemed to have the most battery life imo - I wonder if it's that Smart Network option?
Right now I'm running the Odex 4.4.2 leak and I spent hours removing EVERYTHING - and I'm getting pretty good battery life on it. It's basically a bare bones rom with everything removed.
Upset to see Google+ still burning 3+ hours of battery every morning like it did on 4.3. Greenify doesn't want to hibernate Google+ on 4.4.2 vs 4.3. Other than that, I'm seeing some of my best battery life on 4.4.2 (with everything removed (bloatware, samsung, etc)). Basically did this: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2728533
But, soon as Scott comes out with a CleanRom 1.8 KitKat, I'll get it.
