First of all, the Japanese version of the S3, codenamed SC-06D, will be powered by a dual-core 1.5 GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon MSM8960 S4 processor. The “Krait” chipset will replace Samsung’s Exynos 4 Quad, set to power the S3’s international model. The main reason behind the substitution is the fact that NTT Docomo will offer Samsung’s new flagship with 4G LTE speeds and, as you may already know, quad core chipsets haven’t played nice with LTE. We suspected that the LTE-versions of the S3 would come with the MSM8960 chipset under their hood and, while it isn’t officially confirmed, we can now be almost certain that the US or Canadian models with 4G speeds will feature the same proc.
The second technical detail that will set the Japanese S3 version apart from the international model is the featuring of 2 GB of RAM. That’s right, ladies and gentlemen, LG’s Optimus LTE2 is no longer the only smartphone to come with 2 GB of RAM and Samsung’s SC-06D could steal the spotlight from the recently unveiled LG phone in Korea.
In terms of software, the Samsung SC-06D will run Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich with TouchWiz 4.0 UI on top, as well as with the “Docomo Palette UI”.

Most likely you would be limited to WCDMA connectivity if you privately imported one of these. (Unlocking is not a problem, DoCoMo unlocks brand new phones no question asked, just pony up 3150 yen)
International LTE bands are a total mess. Over 40 unique band allocations at last count.
I am holding onto my SII until the fallout of how similar/different the hardware ends up being with respect to custom rom development gets figured out. (DoCoMo SII was similar enough to the standard I9100 for most roms to be tweaked into working, though there were digital-TV and GPS issues and the partition sizing was a little different)
So like many of us, the chip a Smartphone has is one of, if not the most important feature. So the Galaxy S4 just like its predecessor, is going to have two different variants, one with the Snapdragon 600, the other with the Exynos 5 Octa.
I live in the UK, and I have been looking forward to the arrival of the S4 and may even consider upgrading to it. However, I already have a smartphone with an S4 Pro, and I would only get my Visa out for something a bit more than a slight upgrade. So the question I wanted answering was: Which chip was the UK going to get?
Apparently, Samsung has said that the UK was to receive the Snapdragon 600, as the UK is starting to receive 4G and also because the Exynos 5 Octa isn't quite yet in mass production. However, Three says otherwise. On their website (https://www.three.co.uk/Discover/New_Samsung_Galaxy?ID=1394), they state it will come with the Exynos 5 Octa, the model lacking LTE. This makes sense, as Three are constantly boasting how their DC-HSPDA is just as fast as EE's 4G but is available nationwide, not just in a few cities. This makes me cautiously happy, as I have always been with Three and their coverage and Data prices are second to none.
So, what do you think? Is anyone able to shed a bit more light on the situation?
i cant see three being the only company to have the non lte variant , as everyone else will be using 4g . three have brought into 4g , they also apparently got a big slice for free
It's confusing because I have read that 8core SOC will also support 4G
So not sure which will have the LTE chip and which not?
I'm sure it won't be too difficult to get the either version even if it means getting it from abroad.

Many retailers seem to have both octa and LTE listed in the specs based, I believe, on what they were told last week *however* Clove stated in their blog a few days ago that they were still waiting for confirmation from Samsung re specs and price - so it's very likely that currently no retailer has this info either.
If all the stuff that started going round yesterday is true then it looks like we'll get the quad. It's all a bit of a mess really...

Since the 21st March, the Three site has listed the 1.9GHz Snapdragon as the device it is selling so maybe at (and only) the time/day you posted this they incorrectly listed the Exynos.
Why can't Samsung make one chipset that supports for all countries. I don't have a great knowledge in chip designing. But i am always curious to know why different chipsets are needed for LTE. Why Exynos is not compatible with LTE (USA LTE). How is the scenario with iphone, iphone 5 is in India too. Does it have a different chipset from USA's ?

Well.. I don't think that problem is into Main chipset.
The galaxy s3's Exynos 4412 processer supports LTE. but samsung released by 3G version. I don't know why is itand also, samsung released korean galaxy s4 version by LTE with Exynos again

Samsung will do the same sh*t with the S4 as they did with the S3.
3 months after releasing the S3 i9300 in Australia they released the S3 4g i9305. Helps boost sales to suckers like me.
This time they'll probably release the i9505 lte snapdragon version then a few months down the track claim they found a way to get 4g working on the Octa and probably release a i9510.

exynos for note 2, im guessing they were able to fit in a LTE chip due to the size of the phone 5.5
since the s4 keeps the s3 form factor, plus almost 1mm thinner, there was no way they couldve included lte with the exynos.
Plus they are having manufacturing issues with the exynos, so by fall when the note 3 launches, it shouldnt be a issue.

Not sure but I believe in the US they stayed the same dual core models. In some overseas markets where the international model was sold they then introduced the quad core lte model (i9305).

Why is Samsung phasing out their Exynos 5 chip and implementing snapdragons in their upcoming phones? Its a shame that they are using their competition in their own devices rather than try to improve their own and then market it.
I love my i9500 but the lack or dev support is really depressing.
I honestly don't want to see the downfall of the Exynos 5.

I agree that its disappointing that the Exynos 5 chip hasn't been as good as they projected, and publicised.
But I do think that its a good move to use the snapdragon 800 in their i95005G device (google edition)
Samsung are giving customers the best they can for the S4. Using the Exynos 5 would be a mistake, as its reign as the best chip will be short lived. (slightly better than the snapdragon 600)
The 800 will be a lot better, and for a flagship device they need the best. Not to mention LTE for many countries is a tech selling point.
I think you guys are being premature. Exynos vs. Qualcomm is more about baseband than it is anything else. Last year before LTE grew in deployment the ratio was 2/3 Exynos 1/3 Snapdragon. This year it's reversed. And the only device that's "rumored" to use S-800 is the LTE Advanced SGS4 that's only being sold in Korea.
Qualcomm announced a new LTE baseband called RF360 in February that's supposed to be available in the fall. It allows a single baseband to be used across all 40 different LTE bands. Once it's deployed Samsung could use Exynos wherever they chose. If RF360's available in time for the N3's release I'd fully expect it to be Exynos.

Hopefully they do use the Exynos 5 and continue to give it 100% support in the future.
What i was mostly scared about was that the i9500 users like myself are left in the dark due to not enough dev support, and it seems like all the devs are slowly backing away from the i9500.

Samsung go on record stating they will release code for this and that... and almost never do.
Plus we buy the device. People are switching to other devices because of ROM availability and developers supporting other phone manufacturers.
Its in their interest to sell as many phones as possibile. So they are losing market share buy not following through with their promisses.
Thinking about their prospective... Apparently not enough to make a difference

Don't you mean I9505G that is being released next week? And if so they are using the same chip as the I9505, namely the Snapdragon 600, not 800. For all intents and purposes they're the same device.

So the leak of a South Korea user manual doesn't quite apply to the Western world, but it does imply the likelihood of the same powerhouse Snapdragon 800 processor inside the rumored Galaxy Note III. Also, the user manual doesn't specifically state that the device is a Galaxy S4, however the specs and dimensions match those of the device, making it probable that a variant running Qualcomm's Snapdragon 800 is imminent.
It is unclear if we will see a Galaxy S4 with the latest Snapdragon 800, but it is an exciting possibility. Check back in later for Samsung's Premiere 2013 Galaxy and ATIV event news, which kicks off at 2pm ET.

Unlikely given that there is nothing out there at the moment that can make a Galaxy S3 break sweat, never mind an S4. Someone would have to be a bit stupid to be that bothered about extra performance which won't even be noticed in the real world.
This S4 is more than sufficient for my needs until my contact is up in 2 years time.

Simple, Google don't want to be Apple - COZ, Samsung was the chip maker of Apple till yet but after there fight of patents, Apple simply drop there idea for CHIPS.
Samsung is preparing Exynox 4 (not OCTA ONE Exynox 5) chipset for there Tizen devices. They have successfully tested it on i9500 model.

So I'm really confused here. I'm planning on getting the Note 4 when it comes out and here in Europe, I get to choose between the Exynos model (64-bit) and the Snapdragon 805. So is 64-bit really THAT important for Android L? I don't really care about development support for the Snapdragon 805, I just want the more powerful device. Both versions will feature an LTE modem only the Snapdragon one is Cat6 and the Exynos one is Cat4. In my country LTE is just starting to roll out so that doesn't make any difference for me. Should I get the Exynos model because it's 64-bit?

don't get your hopes to high about 64 bit CPU. From the screenshots of the Exynos Note 4 CPU uses ARMv7 instruction set and for the 64 bit functionality ARMv8 is required. So looking at this and lack of any official work from Samsung I highly suspect that it will be 32 bit CPU with more cores. Also it doesn't make sense to release two so different CPU version since the Exynos version will be eligible for Android L update, but Snapdragon will not(or at least it was the rumor that Android L will work only on 64 bit CPU)

It looks like a substantial victory, sometimes >30% in some benchmarks for the Exynos. Does the Mali GPU similarly dominate over the new Adreno?
My big concern is the development of the Exynos vs the Snapdragon; concerned that there maybe CyanogenMod and AOSP based ROMs might have issues with the Exynos version (they had difficulties I remember with the Note 2)? Samsung I remember had really poor documentation for its Exynos SOCs, which could be an issue.

To be honest, this phone seems underwhelming in some ways. The Note 4 did not offer water proofing and it was not a huge upgrade over the Note 3 specs-wise. Plus the lack of ARMv8 instruction set SOCs ...
But the issue is there really isn't much competition in the Android phablet space these days. The One Plus One is unobtainable for most of us and well the others are not on par with the Note.

I'm with Fido, probably will have to get unlock Note 4 once it will reach Canada. But assuming that Wind Mobile has Note 3 its highly likely Note 4 will come to the Wind Mobile as well, maybe with some delay though.
All the great things about better performance of Exynos vs Snapdragon is awesome of course, however will you really notice the difference in usage ? I have SGS3 international which I compared to the north america's dual core didn't see much difference in performance of everyday tasks. In addiction to that most of the places don't have LTE-A so snapdragon is pretty much has no gain in network speed and will perform the same as Exynos(at least in Canada where we have only LTE network)
So now the question really is whether its worth going through the pain of getting international Note 4 region locked, deal with it , pay extra $$$ for the Exynos which lacks 64 bit instruction set and in terms of everyday performance you won't notice the difference ?
What I really wonder about is the difference in battery life between those two versions ?

Instruction set ARMv7 is in ARM Cortex A53 and ARM Cortex A57. I have been play with HTC Desire 510 64bit for a while in shop. Installed Antutu and it show ARMv7 in details.
ARMv7 is read from OS as Android 4.4 is 32bit.
IF Exynos 5433 is 64 bit, we will have more with Android L

i got confused by OS readings, seems like I have made solid decision to go after exynos version. Now the hardest part is to wait for it to become available :/

Where would you find an international version in Toronto (Canada) without it being wildly expensive?

I don't know about Canada but here in Europe I get to choose between the both models if you're not buying it from a carrier. Last year for the Note 3, the Snapdragon one was just a little bit more expensive than the Exynos model.

last two galaxies that I owned I got from online store ... so depends what you call wildly expensive, but definitely it will cost you some extra $$$. Does any one know which region Exynos version will belong ? from the website that I got my international SGS3 they told me that most likely they will get Snapdragon edition .....
I'm interested in the Exynos version if it will be faster and have better battery life. I'm still confused by the network support, however. It seems like the Exynos version will only have LTE Cat 4 while the Snapdragon version will have LTE Cat 6. Are there actually any carriers in North America on Cat 6? I didn't think so. Will the Exynos and Snapdragon versions support the same LTE bands? More importantly, will there be an Exynos version that with UMTS pentaband support (including 1700 and 1900 bands?) I assume the SM-N910T (T-Mobile) will be Snapdragon.

There are barely any states that supports Cat6. Most don't even support Cat4. Take a look at this:

If you look at the dates you can see that many countries are only now receiving Cat3.

I bought my unlocked International Note 2 from Expansys.ca and it was at least $100 cheaper than the carriers, including priority shipping.
I'm likely going to do the same with the Note 4.

Thanks for the heads up. I pre-ordered a 32gig black version . The price is not listed but they give you the option to cancel the order if it's not what you want.

Just pre-ordered from Expansys. Looking at my Note 2 order, I got it the day after they shipped with the express ship option (approx. $27). Hope this comes out soon! :victory::victory:

I paid for express shipping as well. The only issue is that they dont mention which model it is. I have emailed them to ask.
For your Note 2, though it was unlocked, was there any type of carrier branding on the case or in the OS?

Please let me know when you get an answer.
For my Note 2 there was no carrier branding, other than the Samsung logo on the top of the device and on the back. Worked like a champ on Virgin Mobile, but this model (N-7100) doesn't have LTE. It'll be nice to have it on the Note 4!
From experience from having exynos galaxy phones and the same phone with snapdragon I always found the snapdragon phones to be more reliable and have less delay but when I had the exynos S4 the camera sensor and audio chip was better (wolfson vs qualcomm). This was important for me but I will not get a exynos phone again as Qualcomm in my opinion are the leaders in Chipset. 801 being a let down though due to overheating!
