Videocalls - Nexus 4 Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi, guys. Tell me please, working videocalls over 3G something on the custom ROM?
Not Skype, Tango, etc...
Only from provider to provider over GSM, use to 2G/3G.
Thankx and sorry for my very bad english.

It is realy interested me too.

This depends on the carrier.

Carrer switch on videocalls. Have support videocalls on the customROM? On the stock ROM not support videocalls. On the stock ROM not this function in the Phone.apk and firmware. It may be support on the just customROM?

The dialer has to support it but most do not for this device. The main time you see it is with euro versions of devices but this one doest have a euro version

Does anyone actually use video call? My old Galaxy S supported video call, but the only time I have used it was when I accidentally "dream dialed" while still half asleep.

No this function in the custom ROM? This is impossible?

No roms have a built in video calling feature, google wants you to use hangouts for that.

Good. Then you have some options.
Just search around in Android Development.
There are a few Hero roms out there (Eris, Legend, etc).
Those are the 2.1 firmware versions.
There are even more 1.5 versions such as MLIGN, etc as well.
Seek and ye shall find.
Oh and I better add that you will probably not find one with 100% full functionality as your stock rom.
By this I mean is you might not have wi-fi, bluetooth, screen rotation, speed, stability, etc.
Not to mention that you may need a specific SPL for your device.
And 99% of the time you will need to reformat your sdcard like: fat/ext3 or ext4/swap and then set your swappiness from anywhere between 20 to 80 depending on the rom.
It takes some work and to do all this just for Flash is probably not a good idea. Just a heads up.
hi, maybe i dont need 2.1rom...i just want flash player and zoom in and out of the web broswer. so is there any stable rom that can work like that? thanks!

Unlocked and rooted yes. Stock rom though. If you're running a custom rom it may be doing a check on build.prop for enabling features.

Nope Sprint Nexus S4G
We are not supported

Works for me on infinity rom.
What gives better quality google talk video chat or skype
Works for me with NSCollab 1.0.34 with no problems. Of course, the other side has to be able to participate in a video call.
So I take it one-way video calling isn't possible? If so, that's a shame...

I figured the A was the issue. We are the red headed step child of the Nexus clan.

Android does.
There's an app for that!
Android Market
Being a previous Samsung mobile owner, I think that it is something that doesn't work on their phones whether you have an app' for it or not.
Give it a go and let us know how you get on with the app'.

You might be right but I have trouble believing it's hardware related.
On the HD2 it depended on the apps in a rom.
Never owned a Samsung so I will find out.
Probably need to wait for a custom ROM/root that supports call recording..
I understand the SGS2 has call recording on custom roms and considering the Note is using parts of the SGS2 firmware, it could have call recording.
Just something to ponder on.

Have never used it...I believe you can call a person with the same device..while on the call..you both hit the chat an whola...I could be wrong...sounds good though
Anyone..rebuttal?
I have that option as well. Doesn't work for me. I've only tried calling through a few different carriers, one AT&T (stock GS3) the other being Verizon (HTC DNA, custom ROM unknown which one). Both failed to call after what seemed like an attempt. I'm on Golden Eye 3.0 with KT kernel.

My best guess is it is the SAME as when I ran custom ROMs on previous Galaxy Series phones with ported from international series firmware. We would have the video call button but ATT doesn't allow video calling so it never worked. It is something that ATT blocks so it will never work. You can find threads in the Galaxy S2 I777 threads and Galaxy S1 Captivate threads on how to remove the video call icon from the .apk's and resize the layout so it doesn't have the icons out of shape/place. Unfortunately until ATT let's us call over data it will never work.

Unfortunately since it is NOT built into our phones firmware automatically (removed/changed thanks to ATT firmware) we could not use the same tactics the iPhone people used and have it cleared for use.
But there are other apps that we can use from the play store and have video over cellular signal. But the catch is you have to be rooted and use something like gTalk enabler or change a setting in the build.prop for it to work. You can try apps like Google Talk/Hangouts, Skype, Tango for video calling over the cell signal. I have used Google Talk and Tango.

[Q] are there any roms that support the GT-i9020a version??

hey everyone,
I am trying to get an old nexus s setup for a friend and am wondering if there are any custom or later versions of android i can install on it. i am mainly looking for a later version because the dialer screen on it is causing some usability issues. the Nexus S has a model number of GT-i9020a its a GSM version of the Nexus S

No, I wouldn't mess with radios until you are really comfortable with the ins and outs of flashing..
