What's going on with my battery? - Droid RAZR M Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

For the past two weeks or so, my battery feels like it's gone to ****. It drains a significant amount while doing nothing, and drains really really fast while the phone screen is on. Like, 1% per 3 minutes texting/BSing, 5% per 5 minutes or more while playing a game.
This morning, i unplugged my phone at 3am and let it sit until I woke up just now. I already lost 10% just letting it sit on my nightstand basically.
Can anything be gleamed from these stats? I'm not sure what else to try at this point. I tried greenifying every damn app that could possibly be the culprit. I follow the battery, better battery, wakelock detector, and watchdog stats allllllll day.
It honestly just seems like the phone is shedding battery at a high rate no matter what it's doing, and not in reference to doing anything particular. Just running too hard all the time. Not sure what else to try at this point.
Thanks in advance

2%/hr in idle mode is about right.
not sure what ROM/kernel you are using, but that is most likely the culprit.
the best I have had was on deadrage (4.1.2), Energy (4.1.1), and Orion AOKP (6/29 build on 4.2.2). both of those gave me about 1%/hr on idle mode - sometimes, I could go 3-4 hours without the battery percentage moving.
what kind of stats are you expecting? for me, I can get a full 24 hours easily, but I really only need 18hours.

Hi - I have been hunting for that Orion AOKP rom for a week now - I want this battery performance - It's no where at droidrzr.com - the only post available is http://www.droidrzr.com/index.php/topic/17634-rom-orion-cm101-aokp-paranoid-android-slimbean-builds/ but that AOKP rom isn't Orion's so I'm confused. Or maybe it is. But the loading logo is timpohladthomas's AOKP logo....? An X.
But if you could PLEASE - post this rom I would buy you a delicious grilled cheese sandwich on wheat bread - with a nice tomato slice on there. PLEASE!
cheers

That is Orion AOKP, but the dev no longer supports it. You probably won't get updates. Just use Tim's AOKP.

Synergy battery life

Not sure if this is in the right place for this info or not. But...I flashed myns synergy rom a couple of weeks ago and have been getting decent battery life. Today my battery life is blowing me away. Going on 11 1/2 hours since being unppugged with my normal usage. Not heavy use by any means but moderate at least. I have never seen this kind of battery life on any other rom I have flashed. Any other synergy users seeing good battery life?

Yes, from what I have read, you have to use the kernel that comes with the rom.
I am getting HORRIBLE battery life with the synergy rom....almost to where I cant use it. I LOVE the rom, but the battery life is frustrating!
Hopefully Netarchy will develop one that will work with this type of rom and we will be saved.

About 100 texts total, a handful of phone calls, lots of checking of XDA, FB, Twitter, Google+, etc. was on wifi entire time.
I have used CM7 before this an was getting maybe 3-4 hours before dropping to say 40% with less use then I had yesterday.

I tried that for a bit over the weekend...but there was something I did not like about it...cant remember now. I will have a go with it again to verify.
At the end of the day...we can develop superb ROMS that have flashy flashes, but if the battery/components cant take it, then we are still at a stand still.
my battery life is good most of the time, but it seems there are periods where it drops quickly. i think it drops when the market alerts me about updates to my apps. both times i've had quick drops, the market has been the top app draining the battery and has a notification of updates. i don't see an option to turn of notifications is this updated version.

No but the netarchy kernel I use works just fine with my King's Alliance GB. It's all in the UNIVERSAL kernel, I should say
I usually get 24 hours up time and 3 hours awake before I've got to pop in a charged battery. Normally change out at 20% to keep it from going dead on me when I need it most.

Terrible battery life

I'm on joelz prime xl 3D r43 and my battery life is horrible. I get and hour everyday and barley using it. When I stare at my battery percentage I can see it goin down ever minute.
Can someone give me tips on how to save battery life or something
Bcuz when I flash Jermains stock its Rom battery life is good again (I get about 3 hours on that)
And there's nothing wrong with my battery or phone

Have you ever dropped your phone in water at all? Maybe you have a bad battery, because those battery stats are worse than even running complete stock. Post all of your info, Hboot, radio, kernel, etc. And hopefully we can help you out with your issue.
Hboot: .92
Kernel: Tinys gingersense 11/19
Radio : 2.15.00.0808
And no never dropped it in water

that sounds unreasonably bad. I'm on Joelz Prime, too, but I think only up to R40. I doubt there's anything in those last few commits to cause this, though. Try re-flashing, wiping battery stats, and give it a few cycles then reevaluate things. What apps are shown in the "Battery Use" settings menu?
Failing that, could be some hardware issue causing a short or something that's draining things... There have been cases where water or other damage can kill the battery life. Good luck.
I reflashed 3 times and still horrible battery life .
Water never got on my phone .
And in battery use nothing major is running . Except like display, os ect.

I've been using Joelz XL 4.0r42 for a few days now and I can say battery life is a little worse than 3.9, but not down to 3 hours. I change overnight, disconnect at 7:30am and charge again at 11pm. But that is with 5 or less calls, 10 texts, and emailing only.
Could email be on push? Did you try the power settings under tweak? I have tried normal and performance and see no difference. Someone said that one of the widgets was killing performance in an earlier post (in the PrimeXL thread), maybe the same widget is killing the battery too?

I dunno, then... try leaving it in Airplane mode for a little while, to see if it's something radio, etc.-related. otherwise, something's probably wrong with a hardware element somewhere along the line. I hope you're able to solve the issue.

I've read a tip to do this:
-get battery full before installing ROM
-wipe battery stats and flash new ROM
-Let it settle in, set it up a bit, then fill up the battery again
-go back to Recovery and wipe stats again, while it's full.
I'm not clear on the logic behind it - could be somebody's superstitions - but it's not a difficult step to take in the hopes that it does some good.
there are others who said they run a script at shut down to wipe them every time the phone reboots. Seems like everyone has their little tricks.
This may be a long shot, but my guess would be some kind of internal hardware issue. Maybe there's a problem with the micro USB port and it's not actually fully charging the batteries.
Shut the phone off and charge it till the lights green. And if you want any kind of battery life, sense is not the rom to be on. Especially 3.5.

There are tons of things that effect battery life and tons of things to save battery. Underclocking, undervolting, lengthning time between syncs, increasing wifi scan interval, lowering screen brightness, keeping running services to a minimum. However even with your phone set to max performance settings with all the bells and whistles on, you should still get more than 3 hours out of a charge. If multipul batteries give the same results, i would say its hardware related, or your charger is messed up and its not charging or messing up the batteries.
I wiped battery stats andseeing where that leads me
Right now when I wiped it and I played modern combat 2 for an hour and my percent is 61
So ill say imma get 2 hours out of my batt?

GingerBattery Sucks?

I dunno man, just gingerbread itself appears to have fubared my phone. I wiped sd, wiped phone, factory reset, odined stock EC05 and took the forced EI22 update. Even still, android system chews through battery at >90%. A small thermonuclear power plant could not give my phone enough juice.
This coming after I tried multiple combinations of roms, kernels, uninstalling apps, and freezing data sucking apps that caused high wake locks....
I have tried stock gingerBreadEI22, ACS 3.5 - 5.5, ERA RC1 & 2, and Random Rom, with nubernel, different samurai kernels, and just whatever the chef cooked up. All the same, excessively high "system" battery usage.
Anyone is / was having the same issues and able to iron it out?
That reading for system is the norm. I get 24 hours with like 80%
Sent from my SPH-D700 using XDA App
I agree with Alkah0liK, but with my experience so far, if I don't use the phone all day it doesn't really use the battery, but as soon as I start talking, listen to music, or web surf it because a pig. I actually want to go back to 2.2 and use frozen rom again from ACS again. Can't figure out how yet though

Ok thanks, I was wondering what others were seeing.
I must be doing something it does not like. I can go a couple minutes with the screen on (at lowest setting mind you) and watch the battery drop 2-3% or more, almost dead battery within 10 - 12 hours even in /out of airplane mode...
Is there something really wonky with CWM? Funny thing is this started happening right about the time i switched over to v5. I am in the process of reverting back to wiping everything, odin to EC05, and going v3.1.01 again.
The battery life is better with gingerbread, but its not going to make your phone run 2-3 days on one battery life. Sorry my friend, those days are long gone. It would be very hard to find any cell phone that can run for longer than 24 hours these days.
No I get that, but I was able to use my phone for more than a couple hours a day before gingerbread. B4 the leaks I was running Viper Rom EXT4 with genocide at 1200 ondemand and still getting through the day. If I cut it back to 1000 and went easy I was only charging overnight to bump it back up to full.
I was even using RandomKing's and ERA's leak based roms with EH06 & EH17 without any issue. For me it really has been either the EI22 / CWM5 / latest roms.

Thanks! That was actually going to be my next try. I only get 4G when I am downtown, not very much as of late anyway.
FYI- I have found what I suspect as two possible culprits on ACS 5.1 & 5.5, and ERA RC1 & 2. According to better battery stats CM_VnoteService and *Sync for GTalk will run and run and run unless you open the applications and go through initial setup. Those two process will stay stopped so long as I leave them open / connected, once I close them - the partial wakelocks restart and run until you open the apps again (or just uninstall).
Even with my obsessively high amount of .acore launcher time and better batter stats application usage, they are still well below the "system" usage under the process dropdown.
It definately sips battery when not in use. Although I feel I get more screen on time with ACS ICS. I regularly have over 3 hours of screen on time with GB, I don't remember getting 3 hours on even SRF 1.2.

Turn off your syncs. If there is no signal your syncs will keep trying and burn up your battery. Turning off data mode in low to no signal areas will conserve battery.

Make sure upgrading to GB did not change any syncs. Also make sure new apps aren't loading into memory and sucking battery like Talk or Google +. Grab Memory Booster lite and pull up the task killer to see everything loading on your phone. The stock task killer sucks.
I recommend paying the $50 for battery and portable charger/storage unit. I'm a stock user who just had 41 hours with my new battery with 2hrs of screen time. I really like having two batteries too. No more charging cords connected to the phone...ever
Edit: the batt. I bought was a stock 1500mah batt. and charger kit from a sprint store. No regrets

Still running 100% ERA Legendary v4.0.1 (with provided kernel) and I squeezed ~74 hours of pure standby time out of my stock battery.
Data Sync (FB every 6hrs, Weather every 2hrs, Google push)/GPS/Auto Brightness = on
TWS = 4%
Display Time = ~24mins (sent 3 texts and checked 1 voicemail)
100% on 3G
Had I turned off all synching, GPS and lowered brightness all the way, I would have probably gotten 4 days.
Battery life has heavily depended on the strength of signal for me as well. I moved recently and have been living in the basement while the renovations are going on upstairs. No airave (it is used at a different location) means little to no signal in a brick house due to Sprint's POS signal frequency. Although I've been flashing different kernels and maybe not allowing them to settle + undervoling a bit (very conservatively, will not OC over 1100). But it is true that since days I was on BB Tour, not one phone lasted a full day without an extended battery. I'm pretty much decided on VZW switch once Prime comes out - one of the factors is better expected power management of ICS and possibility of adding an extended battery without worrying about making the phone too bulky (given how thin it is).
Man that sucks, I've always had great battery with gingerbread. Right now I'm on RC2

worse for some (like me) where for whatever reason our phones wont go into deep sleep mode. not everyone has the problem though, so you might get lucky.
I don't even remember how good/bad life was back on bionix 1.3.1, but if you aren't at a desk job where you can charge your phone for a chunk of the day, you may not see 8 hours.

mic problem here, but no FC.
I dont know, been running it for two days, and have reflashed it twice and still have fc on launcher, and browser. Maybe it will smooth out this time. Maybe not.
From V7 and I upgraded to V8 and it is awesome!
Only issue I have is when I receive calls, other end cannot hear clearly(Mute/Unmute should work...)
And screen rotate is little slow from CM7 Gingerbread but no complain. I'm hoping it will be better and better with new version.
Only big problem I have is, my Samsung Original Desk Dock and Car Dock sound won't route. Oh, my battery charging indicate is not working sometime. It is charging but indicator won't show. Atleast it is charging...
So far I love Passion ICS v8!
I love this rom!!! but I hate having to deal with incoming calls, having to hit mute and unmute just to have my phone act like a phone. I hope this gets fixed on the next update.

Yes sir, I was reading in one of the i9000 ICS threads (can't remember which) where it was stated by the dev that GB bootloaders were needed for deep sleep, not just to get rid of rainbows.
Stability comes with updated phones meant for running the roms we keep chasing :-/
Yes you can say I'm in the wrong forum blah blah....but I have no interest in this phone and will eventually get another vibrant to run stock 2.2 I'm running 2.3.5 and its no better than 2.2 lol.
But the vibrant is much better in every way......oh and the "4g" ain't **** and I live in Orlando city limits

Decided to go back to Bionix 1.3.2 for now.
I love the whole ICS layout and it was zipping along when working.
The FC decreased with each update, but the mic issue forced me to switch back for now.
Mic issue affected me mostly when receiving calls. When this is fixed, I'll try it again.
I get Force Closes only on Gallery and sometimes my app menu will close but other than that have found no real problems..
I have noticed downloading seems to be a bit slower than CM7, but it's still fast enough for me.
The other little thing i've noticed is that it takes a little while to install apps... I don't know if thats to due with ICS on our phones, passion, or what... but again I can deal fine with that it's not a big deal.
As for battery, I came from CM7 so it had the GB Bootloader... but until I completely drained the battery, and charged it to 100% then recalibrated, killed it one more time then charged back to 100%..
So far I have 14 hours and 18 minutes on this charge, battery is still at 56%. Usage is light, web, messaging, phone calls, and I played one game of Drag Racing... My battery is from July 2010 so it's not a new battery either. \
Calibrating your battery really will make a difference.

I also went back to bionix due to the incoming call mute and unmute. It was really pissing me off. I hope it will get fixed soon. I love everything else about the rom.

Ics passion v10 has very nice battery timining
Great battery on v10, had one launcher freeze. The only remaining issue with mine is an 8GB external SD (2GB mounts just fine).
I think I used the phone for at least 8 hours straight since v10 came out.
Ill stick to team toxic until this hits a solid final, that mute issue would drive me bonkers lol

Dear ics users!

I've been pondering over whether or not to upgrade to ICS now as the german version is released. My question is whether or not the battery life is similar to what you get with gingerbread. I've attached an image of what i get on a normal day, when i am at work and use my phone normally and not when i am sitting at home and never let my phone hit deep sleep!
Sure you get a lot of added features but battery life is what i really care about at i need to go sometimes two days without charge.
Got around 74 pct after 9 hrs of extreme light usage.

How does it compare to ICS hour by hour? any difference would you say?
I would skip this Samsung release of ICS. Samsung's interpretation of ICS is not terribly different then GB unless you run a different launcher. I thought battery life was worse on the German release. With the added risk of bricking a few have experienced, don't do it.
If you want try the ICS, go with this one;
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1627854
With this one, you can easily and safely role back to GB from a nandroid backup. This one does not have Touchwiz and the SPen is not fully functional as it is in TW.
I find battery better on GB personally but not by much when u compare it to the silky smooth quickness of ICS

It's a shame because i really wanted to put ICS on but if my battery is going to die out in a day, will be pointless to have. Thanks for the advice people!
I'm getting about the same, maybe slightly better its hard to judge, yup never use your phone the same each day

For me so far samsungs 's ICS has not even been close to the battery life I got on Stunner. I'm a little disappointed but not enough to go back to ASOP or GB. Oddly enough I love TW with ICS Elements fused in.

Thats not actually too bad! I reckon i'll give ICS a go and see how it sets in and then take it from they!
p.s. THEY SCREWED HAMILTON OVER ONCE AGAIN! THEY MUST BE A CONSPIRACY AGAINST HIM!

It looks like it drops pretty quickly even when your screen isn't on. Are you sure you don't have wakelock problems? I think your battery life could be better, even without ICS.

This is a noobs question but how do i go about checking wakelock problems? I have CPU spy installed which i check to see whether the phone goes into sleep mode or not, the attachment below is my current state.

Weird. The battery usage should nearly flatline in deep sleep.
Try BetterBatteryStats for checking wakelock issues: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1179809

Well i've just downloaded the app, xda edition ofcourse, lets what happens but judging from my deep sleep time, doesn't seem like i have a wakelock issue.
Any settings i need to change in the application or leave it to run its magic?
My battery life is noticably worse in ICS. I'm getting a lot of odd wakelocks that I never saw in GB.
This is my phone . You decide.

Well, if wakelocks aren't the problem.. Then I don't know.. ICS battery life seems better in general, but GB shouldn't be that different (and wasn't for me me I used it). Not that your battery life is bad or anything, but it could be better. Like I said, your phone in deep sleep should hardly use battery at all.
Well looks like I will have to test it out and see the outcome, looks like I shouldn't get my hopes up.
