Good quality image on the Home Screen of Kindle Fire HD. - 7" Kindle Fire HD General

For people who want to Live with Amazon stock Rom. That is the great solution to help you love your kindle.
As you can know with the firmware 7.4.3. It doesn't allow you change wallpaper. You go to find solution or wait it for many month.
But believes me the solution already exist: Replacing Carousel Icons
Luxen found this, however at the time he sharing it, people are still happy with alter launcher.
Try it and you will feel: how is sleek with your kindle fire.
Just found the correct id app easy by go to data/app/ (Please remember you will need move "-1" or "-2". to get correct app_id for each application)
and Design icon for that app which you want to change (Actually copy image from google or amazon store is the best way).
And go to system/vendor/data/images/
=> Paste two images with prefix like this:
-- your_app_id.png (425x425)
-- tall_ your_app_id.png (155x155) (tall is for thumbnail image)
No more pain.

Kindle Reader book selection when rooted

Anyone have a solution to the Kindle Reader app not bringing up a book list if you change the launcher?
Currently I have to go to the stock KF Launcher and pick books/newsstand to selection a new book/magazine to read. Anyone have a hack or setting to change this?
I have the same problem, and would be very interested in hearing an answer!
This is a known issue and there is as of yet no workaround. What I have done and what most people have done is to set a short cut on the desktop for the Kindle Launcher. Then you can select your books/newstand etc. Not the most ideal but it is what we have until Amazon releases a fix or some crafy dev comes up with a better fix in a custom ROM.

Thanks Eric!
Just found a workaround. Searched kindle in the market and updated the app. This installed the version that would usually be used on an android device and shows your whole library.
edit: Just a warning, there seems to be no way to make this kindle app full screen. It has the navigation bar (albeit the minimized one) and I'm pretty sure it used to go full screen in the stock kindle app. Also this new kindle app wont work from the stock launcher. I'm thinking about switching back for these two reasons (mostly the full screen thing is bothering me), anyone know how to revert back?
edit2: Also the slider that allows you to quickly jump between locations in the book is covered up by the navigation bar.. Very annoying. Wouldn't recommend doing this unless you don't need that. You can still manually "go to" a section of the book but I'd rather have the slider. Just did a factory restore to get the original kindle app back.

Survivalist's Tablet

I've got a friend who's about to be deployed overseas. He has used an Android phone for a couple of years, is an avid reader, has never had a tablet but is proficient with the Android interface.
He expects to have access to Internet (wifi) only periodically, he expects to be without electrical power for days at a time, he needs any non-essential gear to be lightweight and durable. He asked me if he should get an ereader. I think a rooted Nook Simple Touch would meet his ereader needs and go one better. I'm trying to set him up with a rooted NST that will give him access to a few essential tablet apps, an Internet browser for when he's got wifi and a selection of ereader apps so he can read anything that's out there in electronic print.
So far I've rooted the NST using SalsichaNooter (thanks for that), installed Go Launcher because you can easily increase the size of text and icons, SearchMarket to overcome the inability to search in Android Market (wtf?) and ereader apps Kindle and Google Books. I sent my Gmail account a pure white image that I use for wallpaper to make icons easy to see.
Some lingering questions:
Is there a way to reduce "color settings" or whatever it would be called so that the grayscale shades are fewer? I'd gladly trade more contrast for fewer times that a medium gray icon is barely distinguishable against an only slightly darker medium gray background.
Is there a way to make the icons of Button Savior larger? I love the app. I use it on every Android device I've got because I really like having these essential commands right under my thumb but making the icons twice as large would be nice.
Are there themes that are designed to optimize the settings for a grayscale device? I found a couple for "Go SMS" in Market but I don't know exactly what that is.
Is there a workaround for the inability to install the Barnes & Noble Nook ereader app? I keep getting "Installation error. Duplicate provider authority". I don't know if he needs three or more ereader apps but I don't want to limit his choices.
I've read the Nook Touch forums on XDA, I've done Google searches on these topics but haven't found good answers. If there are resources I've missed I'd appreciate a heads-up.
1. To reduce colors or increase contrast, the only method that comes to mind is to use APK Manager or APK Multi-tool and modify the XML, png, and 9 patch files, will need some knowledge about Android layouts, etc. and color codes like #ff000000 is solid black. I had to do some, not really sure how legit that is, but original devs did not reply to emails when requested high contrast color schemes.
2. Replacing images with APK multi-tool might work, I tried google but can't seem to determine if this project is opensource or not, if it is, send me a link and I will modify it for you.
3. The nooter that you used, installs a good launcher and theme with a lot of monochrome icons for various applications, but as you installed another launcher, you will need to come up with a theme. Go SMS is a SMS application useful on cell phones by the same developer as Go Launcher, you will need themes for Go Launcher.
4. You could try modifying the manifest using APK mult-tool, however, I fail to see the point when you have an optimized version for the device already integrated with the device.
I can only provide you optimizations for opensource software or if the dev of the application explicitly allows to modify his APK, I will not provide you with any other modifications out of respect to the developers, I am one too. I hope you understand.
TouchNooter has a version of market that has search working.
You might be able to find with a little searching an e-ink theme for Go-Launcher in market. If all else fails you could probably create your own theme based off of like Minimalist black or use a non e-ink theme that does the trick.
The built in e-reader app is the equivalent if not better than the market nook app.
While I appreciate the various suggestions from tazzix I'm not proficient enough with Android to know how to manipulate APK files or settings. I keep reading that there's a version of TouchNooter that enables search in Market but either I haven't found it or it isn't working for me (I had a lot of problems with the latest version of TouchNooter, which is why I went with SalsichaNooter). I do have basic access to Market and I am using MarketSearch for searching so I could live with this level of functionality if necessary.
I downloaded and installed the Black-N-Blue free theme for GO Launcher, which seemed to help increase contrast and thus visibility. I'd love to find a way (or at least a way that was within my abilities to use) to turn the background behind all the apps white so they were easier to see when I scroll through them all.
All in all I think this device will work for my purpose even if I can't resolve my remaining problems. Oh and I mapped the side buttons, using Nook Touch Tools, for Volume Up and Down (works great to turn pages in Kindle app), Back and Menu. All very handy. Mapping one of these buttons for Home, though, sends you to the Nook home rather than the Android launcher home. I appreciate the help I've gotten and any more ideas that I come across.

Somewhere on this forum is a theme with contrast icons for go launcher, it really helps, although it is not for all apps.

It seems odd that you'd have troubles with the latest TouchNooter, the issue I seem to come across for most people using it is the Wait a Day issue with market, but since your Market is already working and the other Nooter has done most of the work you could try running TouchNooter 1.11.20 on top of it (making sure you're upgraded to 1.1 first), or burning the card (and after installing a file manager) try installing the Market+Gapps from there manually to "update" them.
As for setting the B&N button to take you home and ending up on B&N home, try and make sure you have the setting saved for home. Also make sure that your default home is Go Launcher. As long as Button Savior's home will take you to go Launcher the B&N home button should too if you've modified the right button. Perhaps try a reboot.
Go Launcher > Preferences > Visual Settings > Backgrounds > App drawer background > Custom Background
Then just select a blank wallpaper image.

Finally, Wallpaper/LockScreen Changer for EVERYONE

Seeing many complaints and questions have been posted reguarding the stock wallpaper/lockscreen problem I though I would help others with this problem. The following programs can be simply sideloaded/installed. They are tiny little programs that will do a whole lot to get rid of the frown Amazon has put on your face. And they don't require Root access!
Prerequisites :
NONE (That is Correct ! NO ROOT NEEDED ! This is Programatical)
Cost :
FREE (All)
Links :
1) Wallpaper Changer Kindle Fire - by DPAPPS (Google Play/Android Market)
or
2) My Kindle Wallpaper - by kindlecooltricks
Preferred Wallpaper Size :
1024x1024 (This will allow for best fit regardless of Portrait or Landscape or Auto)
Steps :
1- Buy a Kindle Fire
2- go to Settings -> Device -> then turn "ON" “Allow Installation of Applications“ (You probably allready have this done)
3- Install a Program above program
4- Copy Wallpapers to a common directory on your Kindle Fire
5- RUN the program and point it at (a) a specific wallpaper picture file or (b) at a directory from which it will randomly pick a picture each time the Kindle Fire is turned on.
6- Smile, Amazon's pictures are out of your life....
So for those using ADW, Go Launcher, etc, or just hate the default unlock screen pictures in the Kindle Launcher, you can now finally (programatically) set your wallpaper or let the program change it to any wallpapers you have uplaoded to your Kindle Fire.
IF you prefer to change your wallpapers with the click of a widget you might also want to try WallSwitch.

Hey thanks a lot for this! The pics you added look awesome but I am having a problem. Everytime I try and select one of your pictures in the app, the picture is zoomed in too far and I don't see the whole thing.
Well, it looks like update 6.3 is causing some headaches for people when they try to specifically select one picture, but the option for "Wallpaper Folder" is still working fine....
Hurray, Amazon release 6.3.1 today and it fixed the problem with being able to select an individual wallpaper. So feel free to pick your favorite again....

Replacing Carousel Icons Without Apk-multi-tool or any type of apk-repacking tool

Update: The same process works on Kindle fire HDX (Now that I have root, I can confirm it works)
However I am using 512px for the carousel icons (original is 562) and 198px for the smaller icons.
App ID can be found in: /data/app
For example: com.google.android.apps.docs-1.apk (The bold part is your ID)
---------
I looked for awhile and could not find the answer so I started exploring all the files and found a solution.
If this has been posted before, feel free to delete this thread.
This is mostly for low-quality side-loaded apps. (I am using a 7", I don't know if it matters
or not)
You need the following:
-Root (to access system files)
- 2 images: 425px (Carousel icon) 155px (App list icon)
- Your app's ID
- A file viewer (I am using es explorer)
Rebooting is necessary for all changes to take place!
Navigate to: system/vendor/data/images
(this is where you'll drop your images)
Example 1: Gmail: ID: com.google.android.gm
So it would be:
com.google.android.gm.png (for 425px icon)
tall_com.google.android.gm.png (for 155px icon)
Example 2: SuperSU: ID: eu.chainfire.supersu
So it would be:
eu.chainfire.supersu.png (for 425px icon)
tall_eu.chainfire.supersu.png (for 155px icon)

google it.
many ways
very easy
Tanks man! now my carousel (i´m i the only one who likes it? LOL) in Kinology looks amazing; like many who dont have access to the amazon app store, most of my apps come from google play and look horrible on the carousel, not anymore.
The easy way to find out the id of an app, its to open it on the play store on a desktop browser and look in the URL, the id its clearly pointed by a "id="
Here are some of the icons i have now on my KFHD7 ready to be moved to the system/vendor/data/images folder.
Thanks!!!
Luxen,
I never try it on kindle fire hd v7.4.3.
But you gave me a hope. Can't wait to try it.
Many thanks!

[GUIDE] How to change the default launcher wallpaper on a rooted Fire TV

View the full guide HERE
I was able to use Resflux to modify the wallpaper assets. It's not as simple as it seems at first because the "default launcher" is actually 5 different apps on the Fire TV.
If there's interest, I may build a web-based utility that lets you fully theme the Fire TV. Let me know if that's something you'd use.

Absolutely.
Absolutely
So I have a Q. From my understanding, the app will list all drawable resources within any app you want to target. I am wondering if you can use this to change the icons (the preview and thumbnail images) of any app on the "Recents" tab without changing the images at source (meaning, in the ".imagecache" folder for that app). So, I mapped the resources of an app (MCPE Edit) which I use to start ES app. The only thing visible in the "Drawing" tab is one image for MCPE (property called "ic_launcher"). If I replace this png with my own along with appropriate ini file, will that replace both the preview & thumbnail images automatically? If possible, this might a better way to do image replacements rather than replacing original app images.
If someone has attempted this and familiar with this process, are there any general rule of thumb (property wise in the "Drawing" class) for FTV home screen image replacements for an application?

worked great. First try I had the wrong version of Resflux. 1.6 definately didn't work. Thanks again for a great guide. Fire TV looks much better with the new background.
