1/4 through mean you deleted some bloat I would guess. Matts util.
That's the thing though, I used the utility to go back to stock and remove the root I had. It should install normally right?

So weird... I don't get update notifications. Im still on pre-update and the only modification I did was root. Anyone have a clue as to how you don't get notifications?
If you have TiBU I froze the update 2.2.1 until i was ready to do the GingerBlur RC1.1 update for 4.1.57
I just got a message just a few momenta ago on my phone to download a update. I didn't take it but wanted to ask, it says it was an update for 2.3 gingerbread and said it was for 4.22.651.1
I'm puzzled because my phone says I'm running 4.22.651.2 and thought I was screwed out of being able to root.
Can any one help me understand this, and let me know if I'm capable of rooting cause I've done my homework and realized that I'm just S.O.L. for now
Or am I?

yeah, you are updated. uncheck the "check for updates" in the settings. If you take it, you will lose root.
I never take any updates ever. Updates are plots to make you hate your phone ie NO ROOT

Can't stress this enough so I'll say it again. If you are rooted never ever take any OTA updates.. Ever!

Yeah, thats what it is for. I am looking at it right now.
Quick question, if I am already on the previous OTA Update without root, I might as well update right?

Why not? You going to stay on the same version forever?
I was rooted and accepted the ota... And I'm still rooted. Just flash recovery and then superuser and you'll be set.
Sent from my OTA accepted, fully rooted EVO.
I've never accept an OTA, but want to. I unrooted to go to Sprint, the phone is being swapped, but would rather have Gingerbread until then. When I check for updates it finds none even though it has 2.2 on it now. Any idea why?

The reason I ask is WHEN they finally find a way to root 2.3.3 I don't want to be kicking myself in the butt for taking the OTA. I don't know if the update has anything that would make it harder for me in the future.
Any thoughts?

No, all they did basically was update the kernel. If you don't take it, your battery is gonna be draining way too fast. There is nothing in 4.24 that isn't in 4.22 as far as being able to root it goes.
Plus if you don't take it you won't be able to use netflix either... I dunno if you use such things lol.
Thanks the info! I'm gonna go download it right now. You've been a great help.

New android market out here:

Install via adb or root explorer. It will install over the old market, FYI.
version 3.0.26
I've been using it for a couple of hours and man, the UI got one huge overhaul. I haven't checked out the new books and movies section much, but from what I've seen, Google put a lot of work into updating the market's image.

Anyone had any luck with the movies? I've seen some people say that rooted devices can't view the movies. If so, would there be a way to make it think you were unrooted while still maintaining root? Script or otherwise? Just curious.

It's not merely because you're rooted. You hacked your framework and therefore can remove drm that the content providers have asked google to put in place.

download the file to your phone, go to 'downloads' folder and select the file, it'll install automatically and overwrite your current market app... no need to use root explorer or adb
edit: also is it just my phone or does the list of apps/games you're browsing through ('entertainment' apps for example) go back to the freakin' top of the list every time you download something? this gets very annoying the further down the list I get

2 soups :
un root and save you root with OTA keeper , and then update to 2.3.6 with the OTA
or
learn to live with it until ics appear at scene
good luck

I used this to root my KF and it was super easy. Also, I had very little experience rooting or with SDK or ADB and I was able to do it. The author, northmendo is very nice and helped me out a lot even with stupid questions. I highly recommend KindleWater and northmendo.
I hope this helps.

Those guides will be great.
Most important thing you'll have to do is to ensure that you install a custom recovery, bootloader, and to make sure that both fastboot/adb are working before goofing around with anything post-root.
If you look around you'll see that people tend to get themselves into trouble with this device more than others
