Rooting wont unlock you from your network, the phone may of already been unlocked anyway but if not (hopefully someone will correct me if I'm wrong) flash a sim free firmware if your planning on being stock but there is also threads on here about unlocking from the network using the service menu (locks are usually placed on imei numbers as far as I know)
As for deleting system apps, again I have seen a thread on here but I've not done any myself yet but some apps are important to make the phone work fully without getting force closes etc.
Thats about as helpful as I can be at the moment as I havent had the time to get through mine yet removing apps etc

Hello there my friend just purchased a Rogers branded xperia play how would i go about rooting it and unlocking the bootloader? i highly doubt its as simple as fastboot oem unlock but am confused at the current state of affairs.
Hello there friend, do you know if the phone is carrier unlocked or is it locked? if the phone is unlocked it will be so much easier to root. if your phone is locked you will need to ask Alejandrissimo or Blagus to unlock it (this will cost 17 euros there abouts, the software they use to unlock your phone requires SERVER CREDITS which they have to pay for... by doing this your phone will become fully unlocked which means you can then go onto the netstage of rooting the device), there is no way i can help unlock the phone but soon as that is done the rooting is very simple and straight forward. if you are unsure if the phone is unlocked/locked try putting another sim card into the phone (has to be different network)

Hey dude, thanks for the offer ive been googling for the past few days and am still unsure about where to start. Do you mind if I ask a few q's?
1. I have a carrier unlocked r800i, but not bootloader unlocked. Its on 2.3.3 and I want to root but prefer to keep BL locked, is it possible?
2. If root will I still be able to get OTA updates?
3. Apart from titanium backup what is some fun stuff to do after rooting?
Thanks in advance man ;-)

You can always reLock the Bootloader after you rooted there is also a method that works on all cept R8OOX to get R00T without Unlocking the BOOTloader
If Bootloader is Relocked, you will be able to get OTA updates, dont do it by PCCompanion.if bootloader is UNblocked then you will get a BRICKed phone, but can be recovered i think.
Alot of great AppS for RooT,DroidSheep is mean but total fun (See what people are doing connected to the same network ) app2SD PLUS , setcpu for OverClocking on DooMkernel,LCDensity and Adfree are ontop of my head.Wireless TEHTER and RooTExplorer are great, with RC being a MUST!
I personally feel the Xperia Play threads here at XDA is very fragmented.
This place would be a whole lot better if there was a global thread posted, that was specifically dedicated to all things rooting.
This would ideally include -
1) A conclusive guide how to root every type of model
2) Bloatware that is safe to remove
3) Completed ROMS / partially completed ROMS safe to install
4) How to overclock
5) Xperia Play specfic rooted mods that are best to install
6) How to update firmware / software once rooted, and how not to brick your phone
I am perfectly capabel of rooting myself, i did it at 2.3.2, but now i refrain from rooting because there is no global guide how to do it and keep 2.3.3.
Yes there are guides, but like i say, they are fragmented and are not noob friendly.
Make a noob friendly guide and there will be a lot more interest in these forums.
Remember........the more people who are rooted.........the more people who will potentially purchase rooted software written by developers.
It's in everybodys interest to stop all this fragmentation of information, and for some expert to write up a conclusive guide to the Xperia Play.

E: this will update you to the newest firmware 4.0.A.2.368 - 2.3.3.
i have a newbie question..
I managed to root my xPlay but most of the people say to not update from 2.3.2 to 2.3.3 from WIFI if you are unlocked.
What is the meaning of unlocked? It means bootloader?
Yes unlock most likely refers to bootloader. If it's referring to sim, people normally put the word sim in front
Sent from my XPlay using XDA App.
If you want to do the update on your phone, lock the bootloader
I used the XDA App to post this, what did you use?
Thanks for the advice guys! Im thinking its probably less hassle just to unlock the bootloader, seems that people have probs doing OTA updates with frozen and deleted stock apps, but i'll let u guys know how it goes anyway

Hi
I am a first time Android user, Picked up an Xperia Play on Monday gingerbread 2.3.3 , Build version 4.0.A.2.368 . Ive read through numerous threads here regarding Rooting and unlocking the boot loader, I'm falling at the first hurdle. For some reason when I try to put the handset into fastboot mode (holding search key while I plug in the usb cable) it just refuses to work. it just charges the handset and I get the green light on the power button rather than the blue one
Is this a know issue ?(haven't come across a solid explanation yet) and if it is , is there a fix?
I have tried another method of flashing the firmware using Windows 7 64bit and 32bit with the same results, system does not recognise the drivers.
So any help or advice would be greatly appreciated.
If your bootloader isn't unlocked then ya you won't get a blue led it needs to be unlocked first

Actually Ive just gone back to look at the unlocking bootloader guide, and this is where Im having the issue.
5. Extract fastboot.rar and open fastboot folder
6. Hold SHIFT and right click on the background of the folder
7. Select 'Open command window here'
8. Connect your phone in fastboot mode (turn phone off, hold search button and plug in USB Cable)
Part 8 there...This is has to be done If I want to be able to unlock the bootloader....Am i missing something ?

This post is pretty much hitting the nail on the head.
Since there are so many different models of this phone and differences with regard to carriers it quickly gets confusing to find the right tutorial
Looks like my handset is network locked, I have requested the unlock code from my service provider, so Ill give it another go when I get it unlocked.
does anyone know if the US At&t version comes unlocked?
I am picking one up tomorrow and wouldn't mind getting a heads up on this
My unlocking the bootloader saga continues, I received the network unlocking code from my service provider this morning, now when I try to enter fastboot more I get an orange light instead of the green light I was getting before.
Any suggestions would be faboo

HEY GUYS , i've created an account here just to address this problem :
( only for SAMSUNG GALAXY SII )
Solution 100% solved and WOrking ( BY ME )
1st step , download any compatible android firmware available in your hands. ( if your phone isin't stuck in a boot loop , skip this step, or if u can use everything but GSM cellular network, or any other connection provided by your sim card provider )
2nd : root your mobile using this toolkit here's the link
www.ngopdul.com/en/androids/root-your-an...rooting-toolkit.html
3rd: step : search in the market for GSII_repair app ( needs root aka superuser access )
4rth step : repair your efs files using this app . ( it's obvious when u look at it )
5th step : search in the market for galaxy s unlock ( follow steps , easy ones )
6th step : ENJOY having your phone back from the dead
PS : this is addressed to all of the guys with the unsolved baseband issues ( unknown baseband)
no imei , imei sv wifi adddress , bluetooth address in a (unavailable) state , will 100 work , hope u enjoy , i blogged for the 1st time in my life to try to help out ppl :_) , try it and reply to me if it did work ( of course it's gonna work"
The 1st 2 steps got my phone working again..
Thanks goes to droid recruit for this!

Are you sure busybox is installed/updated?
As someone said make sure your busybox is installed correctly.
My phone was as stange as hell.. I set up a lock screen before it all happened.. For some reason after a factory reset.. my lock screen showed up. But for some reason o could draw any dots and it would unlock it..
Also i had no imei.. No baseband. No bluetooth.. Wifi would work. But anything tondo with my gsm sim care would not work..
When using GS11_repair.. Skip the first tab and goto the repair tab. Do everything in order on that page.. The unlock part i didnt do as my phones the unlockes debranded firmware so didnt need it. I only did the first 2 steps and magically everything just came right..
Hope this mini guide helps.

Apparently the problem is your nv_data file is corrupt. Which is in or around your efs folder which has all the information about your phone [imei baseband etc]
backing up and restoring your efs and deleting the old nv_data file fixes the problem for apparently 9/10 gs2's.
MAKE SURE YOU BACK UP YOUR EFS.. 2 FILES SHOULD BE BACKED UP IN THIS PROCEDURE. IF I WAS YOU.. UPLOAD THESE 2 VERY IMPORTANT FILES TO YOUR DROP BOX OR WHATEVER SO YOU ALWAYS HAVE THEM SHOULD YOU NEED THEM.

+1 Thanks
This only works in few cases and you should not use gs_repair because it creates the efs filesystem with the incorrect parameters.
No idea mate.. All i know is it worked for me.. Device is fine now

GSII_repair was what screwed my EFS up months ago. Beware!
Apparently theres other tools that do the same job. The info i posted was the only info i couls find when it happened to me so shared the info with anyone having the same issues.
I dont know what this software does. I didnt do all steps stated on GSII_Repair.. I backed up my efs then mounted it.. Didnt trust deleting anything and everthing was fine for me after a reboot. This was performed on GB stock 2.3.4rom
Actually did me a favour as was forced to root. Now running ICS so happy days lol

HI rehmankhan101
First of all i would like to say thankyou , the ariza patch works like a charm .
But off course i had to root the phone to apply the patch, this disabled the auto updates is there a way to overcome this problem without rooting the phone or buying expensive equipment like NsPro box etc.. ?
I was also thinking, i stay to correction don't know if this will work but , now that the patch is applied and phone is working fine is it possible to make a backup of the baseband ( modem ) and
flash it after flashing a stock firmware with Odin , will this work ? or the base band will get over written with the next auto update ?
i am glad that i have helped even a single person.......updating the phone is no problem u can download new updates for ur phone from sam mobile Link http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/1/?model=GT-I9300&pcode=H3G#firmware but the problem is u have to root ur phone after flashing new farmware to install ariza patch......i dont think backup up modem will work havn't try it

Ok guys knock it off. Posting a file without telling people what it does not only is not wise but will not do you any good to help people looking for a fix.
So it is always best practice when posting something like this to state what is in the zip file and what files it modifies.

zlendel with all due respect, @Theshawty is always being a trol and do anything to tarnish every valuable effort from devs especially if the thread was very helpful. i tried to report several times but ....no response . and as the good member that i am REALLY im gonna check the files in the zip package and give feedback on what modification it does to the phone or the radio since it's for signal drops.

Hi to All
This is a solution just for who has a Changed SN and No Network After The Updating the Phone firmware .
I Dont know what this Hassle is all about & why , The ariza Patch is a tool developed by a 25 years old
Ibrahım from gazıantep – Turkey.
He has experınce and knowladge on pc & Smartphone hardware , software ımage & securıty.
This patch patches the Baseband ( Modem ) & disables it from checking the serial Number of the device .
I had this problem after Flashing a Stock firmware using ODIN , after rebooting the phone will not register the sim on the provider network.
The Patch works 100% and will not harm your Phone .
Here are some Q and A .
Q: This patch is gonna clone my phone ?
A: No,it's gonna bring your network back.
Q: My imei number like 0000**** or 0049**** if i flash this patch it will work or it will bring my original imei number back ?
A: This patch is not about your EFS Folder it is just about network so it won't fix your imei number or bring your original imei number back.
Q: I will do these 2 ways step by step ? Do i have to flash offical firmware first and then flash custum rom ?
A: No,you can choose one of them this is your decision.
Q: Can this patch fix my SN ?
A: No it can't but it doesn't matter because you will always be current.
Q: How can i use it on stock rom ?
A: First change your kernel with CF-Root and follow the steps.
Q: After this operation i will update my phone ? Is it a certain solution ?
A: No after the each update you should flash my patch.
Q: I didn't wipe my daha cache etc. do i have to wipe ?
A: Super wipe will clean your system completely so it is doing everything but if you want to ensure you can do them again.
Q: I have a S3 which has a baseband XXALEF-XXLFB can i use your patch ?
A: I have made this patch for just flash my patch after the each installation. It works if your EFS folder is OK.

Flashing Firmware via Fastboot
You mentioned you are stucked at the initial setup screen. This implies that you need to reflash the stock ROM. Please visit this link to read my post containing instructables to successfully flash stock ROM.
Q. Can I unlock bootloader?
No. As of KDA 20.62 15.1 update, the Trust Zone vulnerability has been fixed which allowed exploit to work.
Q. Can I root?
Yes! Head to this thread to root (install SU) on your RAZR.
Q. Can I downgrade?

solved!!!!!! the lg g5 retail mode issue is solved..............

hi guys !
i have managed to completely get rid off the lg g5 retail mode app the stupid video that starts playing and the password asking app will be completely removed for the g5 ........ actually u will have a complete wipe of data and everything ........
im kinda new to xda postings so i dont know how to give credits but obviously all the work was done by senior members i just managed to put things in order step by step..........
everyone who is facing this issue plz reply so i can post the solution.
and yes all is to be done at your own risk i do not take any responsibility what so ever....
Sorry autoprime as i said im kinda new to posting.....
One of the ppl i wud like to acknowledge is autoprime ....
Anyways guys.
This is what i did.
First of all. You need to download. Two aaps from playstore.
1.system app remover.
2.hidden settings.
With System app remover you can delete the app which is playing the video again and again.
It called. Something like alice tutorial.
After deleting the app no more promotion video will be played.
2.with Hidden settings app you and. Go in the apps tab in settings which is always blocked by retail password otherwise.
And disable the retail mode app temporarily. After which you can. Do all you like with the settings and everything...
This was the temporary solution.
For the permanent solution i followed the directions posted by another senior member for restoring stock firmware to the lg g5 after which i have a completely unlocked european phone.
I again say im new to all this. So plzz auto prime if u can elaborate to everyone in a better way will be helpful .
