Just like king23adrianc's CM7 Kang thread, here's one for CM9 Kangs.
Kangs are unofficial Cyanogen builds built by members of the community. They're not supported by the CM team at all, and in many cases aren't supported by the person who cooked the kang.
Kangs can contain features (cherry picks) that haven't been committed into the official nightlies, so you get some pretty cool cutting-edge features that aren't in the official rom. Sometimes these features get built-in to the official CM roms, sometimes they don't.
If you're not familiar with flashing roms, this probably isn't the place for you. Read up on it a bit, make yourself familiar with what you're doing and ALWAYS make a backup of your rom, in case something goes wrong.
For the latest kangs, start at the end of the thread.
To start, here's a link to the euroskank kangs for CM9:

Here's a CM9 (alpha) kang I just compiled @ 6pm PST 11/29/11.
No Cherry Pick: Download (deleted)
Cherry pick version: Download (deleted)
-Dialer Landscape Mode
-Preferences: initial Preferences Activity, Provider and XML
-v3 RIL: another getDataCallState fix
-Revert "Bug 5003361: No Android Dreams in Settings / Display"
I appreciate those who make them without cherry picks. Thanks a lot
Also don't forget everyone that you need to fix super user after every flash and should also flash gapps everytime for the time being.

Usually you won't have to wipe, since it's the same base. It never hurts though.

Can you guys tell me how is this rom?
I use koushik cm9 11.
Wifi? 3g/2g? mms? calendar sync? data usage? thetering? google talk video?
What else...
Is it smooth? What about cherry picks?
Whats the difference?
Why there is nothing in nexus s android dev forum? (many persons tell this rom is great)
What about the UI? Stock ICS? Launcher? Stock?
Sorry for asking u so many questions but I couldnt find anything
Thanx
what i've noticed about the euroskank builds so far:
CM power button options (screenshot, reboot recovery, ect).
Data usage seems broken, at least with the stock kernel. edit: kernel related, flashed different one and fixed.
I use the latest, seemingly unrleased gapps from http://download.clockworkmod.com/test/gapps-ics-20111128.zip
I delete the Maps.apk from the gapps zip before flashing so I can install latest from market (or else you will be stuck with old version and wont be able to upgrade).
edit: rename or delete superuser.apk in /system/app/ and download from market. the one included in the rom forcecloses. No reboots necessary.

I've noticed each kang/release is getting smaller and smaller. I remember we started out at around 175mb.
Anyone know what's going on? Lots of code cleanup, duplicates being deleted maybe?
Just curious....
Hello everyone,
I'm getting an N4 next week and I was wandering how stable AOKP's milestone 1 or CM RC2 are given that nither have a proper stable out yet.
Let me give some context. I use to be big on flashing, the phone I have now has run every any anying I have been able to find but to be honest I'm sort fo bored of it. At this point I'm just looking for somethig I can flash and wait for the OTA update for the next point or big number realse and Yes I know that both roms mention above are not "stable" but they will be soon I hope. I can put up with annoynces for some time while the stable comes out so I can move up to it. Also I'm open for sugestion if there anything more solid then AKOP or CM(if that is even plosible) by all means shear
They're both pretty stable. All features are fully working. Both roms have been on the Nexus 4 scene since day one so the developers have worked hard to eliminate any bugs. Just flash one and try it out yourself.

CyanogenMod RC2, being a release candidate, is very stable and bug free (from my experience).

that is awsome news that there really stable. I'm confuse, why then are they not mark as stable? Can they be using debian definiton of stable?

Probably the developer doesn't think it's ready. Either way, it seems stable enough for daily use.
It sounds like I'm contradicting myself. LOL

Hey all, Team Vanir just added Ovation to their official nightlies a couple of days ago. I haven't installed it as yet on my HD+ but if it's anything like the one on my N7, it will be great. It's an excellent mix of features from CM and AOKP with Team Vanir's special touches and tweaks.
The first nightly 09/24 has been released, give it a look.
Get it here, just scroll down to the Ovation build: http://www.emccann.net/nuclearmistake/VanirAOSPNightlies/
EDIT: Currently, 09/24, 09/25 and 09/26 builds are not booting, just goes to a black screen. I pm'd one of the lead devs (DHO) and hopefully it will soon be rectified.

EDIT: my only concern before installing is whether trim is enabled or not, as I have a samsung emmc, though it is the 32gb version, I am reluctant to install as the nook was a ebay purchase so no warrenty.

Yeah, I also thought about the trim issue. If it's built from verygreen's device tree, it should be ok but I'm not sure. However, it may be a moot point as I am unable to get either the build from 09/24 or 09/25 to boot flashing with TWRP. It just goes to a black screen and has to be hard reset twice to get into recovery. Also just tried installing with CWM and that also was a no go.
Don't try installing at this time, I'm going to PM one of the lead Vanir devs and see what he has to say.

If anybody wants to visit Team Vanir community on G+ I've posted a link here: https://plus.google.com/communities/111378032131473754160
Since I haven't heard back from the dev yet, I made a post tonight regarding the ovation builds not booting past the bootloader on G+. Maybe if more of us that are interested in this rom respond, we'll get some positive results. I haven't seen anything on G+ mentioning ovation and the dev I pm'ed hasn't been active on his XDA rom thread since 09/24. The build for 09/27 also doesn't boot, so he may not have even seen my pm and the Vanir team may not be aware of this issue with the rom.

I believe it's pretty much autobuilt daily/nightly for all their supported devices, this way all commits in general are current. When a fix specific to our device is implemented, the rom will be up to date and ready to go.
I have heard from the dev, DHO and he is working on it. He said he feels confident that he will get it going. I have been testing each nightly as they come out but I'm hoping that he pm's me again to let me know when it's good to go.

I forked CyanogenMod's CM10.2 crespo4g repo, and added a couple changes to update storage for KitKat, but most of the device specific stuff draws from the crespo tree, which is already at version 11.0 in CM's sources. I'm gonna try to start a build right now. I'll let you guys know how it goes. I'll also open a thread in the ns4g dev section as soon as I can.
If anyone wants to contribute code/tips/general know-how to this project it would be greatly appreciated. Also since I'm working from the 10.2 codebase, I expect the WiMax issue to carry over. That's something I'm willing to work on when I get it booting.
I also tried a dirty port from this discontinued crespo rom: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2526740. It just bootloops.

My thoughts would be to edit the bootclass path in the kernel from the nexus s ROM to work for the nexus s 4g, as well as whatever else code is important in the kernel, then get it booting since in order to dirty port a ns ROM to the ns4g all you have to do is swap kernels and then you'll have basic functionality, but that's my two cents, I could be missing something important idk

Just installed adityaxavier's unofficial CM11. Everything is working, including WiFi to 3G switchover (which wouldn't work in any CM10.2 build or Slimbean 4.3 build).
Wimax 4g is not yet working, but that is a minor issue for most.
I hope the Nexus S 4G development won't die out any time soon. This NS4G is my first smartphone, and I use it as a wifi only device. It was a friend's old phone, donated to me. I also have an original Motorola Droid (also from another friend's old phone stash), which I rooted and modded with custom ROMs and stuff. The Droid is now my little brother's first smartphone (also wifi-only). It's been a great learning experience, AND we get useful devices to use too! It's why I love it here at XDA so much.
NOT Dead! Because I found a few "newer", great ROMs to try out still. ROMs I tried and thoughts:
- adityxavier's unofficial CM 11, build 11 --> great, fast, smooth; but I get those errors prompts saying "process com.phone.android stopped working" after boot up. I tried a clean install, as well as a dirty install after factory reset. Still getting those errors.
- jc4gavejc's AOSP 4.4 for Nexus S 4G --> same as above, but also very simplistic, lean, and clean-looking, which I loved. I would've kept this ROM if not for the same error prompts "process com.phone.android stopped working"; or "process com.messaging.android stopped working". I'm beginning to think my phone can't handle 4.4 builds somehow.
- Slim Bean 4.3 --->fast, smooth, stable, minimalistic-looking, with none of the extra features that I'd likely not use anyways. I'm using it now as my stable ROM until I see a working android 4.4 that I can try out again.
- Helly Bean 4.3 -->Also a fast and stable ROM on my crespo4g device. Lots of extra features from Paranoid Android, which I don't really use. My stock battery charging animation disappears with this one. It seems to power on during charging, even after I turn it off.
- Official CM 10.2 --> easiest to install b/c of the cminstaller, but noticeably slower than the above custom ROMs.
Once I have enough posts, and clearance to do so, I'll post these comments, with more details, in their appropriate threads, to help give feedback on the ROMs I tried. Thanks to all the developers that spent time and efforts on these!
Hi everybody.
There are five main CM11 (CyanogenMod 11) roms for the Samsung Galaxy S2:
Carbon Rom (Myself5)
CyanFox (Christiancs1969)
Wayland_ACE's ROM (Wayland_ACE)
Pound ROM (lion0738)
infected_'s ROM (infected_)
This thread is to talk about own experiences with this roms.
What's OK and/or what's wrong. What recommend you and why.
Regards.
P.S:
The poll is outdated. I considered remove it, but I can't do it. I also considered move the thread to Galaxy S II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting forum.
If anyone think this thread causes conflicts, be free to report it to moderators. I apologize.
I tried pound rom it has many features including halo but now im on slimkat due to working art, carbon rom also have a working art and I think it has cm11 as base rom.
I dont think thats a good idea to make a thread like this especialy title"a vs b vs c vs d" this thread is more likely to be whats the best 4.4 rom

You're right. I changed it.
Thanks. :good:
I don't undestand one thing, infected ROM and Wayland_ACE ROM, both are based on Cyanogenmod 11 ( AOSP ) right? So why is Infected' running ART for about 2 weeks and Wayland_Ace not?
And another thing, Infected ROM is based on Cyanogenmod 11, so why Cyanogenmoed did not add CM11 to Nightly downloads (I mean they are still working on 10.2 but no one is interested in 4.3.1 anymore, because there is 4.4.2 out there, In my opinion is a waste of time and energy)
I will kindly thank you for your answer.
Best rom? Dude best rom or awesome rom threads are not allowed in xda.. I don't know the mods are still silent... Everybody's taste is different... More over all the roms u comparing are completely different.. Though all cm11

The thread is intended to talk about the roms, as I said in the first post.
I changed the tittle again. Thanks. :good:

I've been using Cyan-Fox for about a week now. Good battery life and features. Really like it so far.
I've been using Pound rom since it was out and updated with every new version, it's really stable and has nice features. I had a battery drain issue at first but then realized mediascannerservice wakelock was the problem... So I just blocked it with the wakelock blocker setting and Voila! I'm also very tempted by Slim kat, the JB slim roms are great and the fastest I tried before going to Pound rom.
Just wondering if anyone here can tell me if any of the above roms support multi-user in the 'settings' screen. I have kids and I'm really looking to pseudo-corner off my phone (I know the limitations). I'm having real trouble with some of the roms.. and wondering if anyone else has tried/successfully got it working?

For certain multiuser will NEVER make it into the standard CM tree for non-tablet devices now that they are a for-profit.
Add CarbonROM by myself5 to the list

Sorry been away for a month due to exams...
What is ART?
What's the difference between roms that have it and which don't?
Which roms have it?

I'm on Wayland_ACE's CM11 and all of my issues are with 4.4 at large, not the ROM in particular barring one: is anyone else having issues with flac playback? Apollo & CM11 are choking on files that Apollo & CM10.2 had no problems with.
I'd be curious to hear back from anyone on any of the other CM11 base roms in particular.
try slimkat sabermod by fJ under settings -> advance option -> device -> screen

1. ART is an alternative runtime to Dalvik.. For rest of the info, google.
2. Google
3. CarbonROM and CM11 have it working I think..
