Will Current Franco Kernel (163) work with android 4.3? is it based on the 4.2.2? has anyone tried?
No it will most likely not work. I would not try any custom kernels on 4.3.X roms
Never know my old phone ran cm9 with a 2.3.67 kernel but the camera had some problems. That eventually got fixed. You could try.

Its a new branch of Jelly Bean using a older branch of Jelly Bean.... it won't work. No point in risking your device to a unbootable state.
Don't recoveries have their own kernels but like you said who wants to pull out their hair

Lol 4.3 isn't even released yet and we don't know if there is going to be a lot of kernel changes. Even if there are a lot changes I am sure a fix will be released very quick.

4.2.2 kernels arent booting on the 4.3 leak. there could be many changes, but most likely its because of driver changes. when kernel source gets released, we will know
No. If we had the source it would, usually some ramdisk mods need to be made

I recently switched from a Galaxy s3 to a Nexus 4 and would like to get LTE on it as Rogers does not support DC-HSPA 42Mbps. So far from all the threads i have read say there are a few ways to do this:
1) downgrade to 4.2.1
2) Flash 4.2.2 with the .33 Radio.
3) custom Rom 4.2.2 with .33 Radio.
From what i gathered people who flashed .33 radio (or older) on 4.2.2 have been having a range of problems. And apparently 4.2.1 has a lot of bugs in general?
It would be great if someone who has already done this could post about their experience with each of the options as i'm tired of reading pages and pages of posts about how the Nexus 4 is not suppose to have LTE and to be happy with the hspda etc.
Thanks
I am also interested in this any advice would be appreciated

If you happen to lose the ability to make or receive calls on your Nexus 4 on the .33 baseband then you must flash the latest .48 baseband to make calls.
I am going to flash a 4.1.2 ROM when I get home I had a nexus 4 when they first came out running lte went to a note 2 and now back again to nexus 4;I am running the latest paranoid android 3.1 and faux kernel but the internet is painfully slow without lte I really can't take it any more will try 4.1.2 then 4.2.2 with the different radios

I am almost positive that there is no backwards compatibility with Android. Meaning, that since the Nexus 4 debuted with 4.2, you couldn't run a 4.1.2 ROM, and that's why they don't exist (to my knowledge).
to anyone interested i flashed a .33 radio from paranoidandroid 3.1 / latest faux kernel and i now have lte back - now everything is good !!

golfinggino,
Could you be a little more clear/descriptive? What ROM/kernel are you running now? Are you still running 4.2.2 stock or something else? Did you follow instructions that you found somewhere?
Thanks in advance,
JT

Yes was running the latest paranoid android and faux kernel wasn't happy with it and just flashed the latest carbon ROM ( much better) along with today's faux update, lte is working on the this ROM as well
i made and received some phone calls and didn't notice anything unusual, i will test making and receiving some calls tomorrow
Sent from my Nexus 4 using XDA Premium HD app
tested it today and the call quality seems to be better on the .33 radio then the latest one ? could just be me ? anyway ran on lte all day was connected to wifi for bit and still managed 5 hours screen on time - just picked up a nexus 10 today and in the process of loading up carbon rom on it - that should really fly !
hey again guys thanks for all the responses and sorry about the late response.

I think im going to try the Carbon rom too. Did you have to flash the older radio with it or no? sorry im new to flashing roms and radios and such.
Thanks again guys will post again with my results (hopefully wont mess up my phone in the process XD)
yes i flashed the older radio - the one i used was cwm-radio-mako-m9615a-cefwmazm-2.1.1700.33.zip
i was running paranoidandroid 3.1 but think the carbonrom is smoother
Only problem is that at least on cyanogenmod using any radio other than version 48 causes auto focus in the camera to not work.

What the heck....that is so irrelevant. There is absolutely no relation between the camera application and the baseband. It has to be a CM 10.1 rom issue.

Test it for yourself. Many have had problems with autofocus on .33 radio. Updating baseband fixes that issue. And if updating the baseband fixes it, by definition it's not a cm issue.

Now I may be wrong here, but I am friends with someone who runs the S3 miui and has done it for various devices now. I believe I read in his 4.2.2 builds that the kernel could not be changed on miui currently because the framework was highly dependent on it. It may just be an issue on the s3 though. Hope this helps.

Judging from the board their really isnt much of a need to atleast not until the OTA update comes out or when custom roms and kernels come out for 4.3.. I mean battery life on 4.3 has been hit or miss, Rooting 4.3 is still buggy and may not work right?
I'll get it when my phones finally get the OTA I can wait to root if need be. Just as I can wait for custom roms and kernels too.

just flash the .33/.83 hybrid radio, download the network app (https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=de.mangelow.network), select lte/gsm (auto), change your apn from epc.tmobile.com to fast.t-mobile.com and enjoy.
I actually jumped on it right away, but evidently my favorite app (Podkicker Pro) needs tweeking to be compatible with it because it keeps crashing every time i open it. I went back to 4.2.2 for now but once Podkicker is updated, then I'll jump back onto 4.3. My only regret is that I'll miss the original gtalk app. So far, I am NOT a fan of Hangouts.

I jumped. I'll install PA4.3 when its dropped tho. But I really like 4.3 Improvement all around.
Waiting for PA...
Can't help with the fact that I have to sacrifice so many features from custom ROM and kernel for the "upgrade". The android version can wait.

JWR66V is the main.
JWR66V is full of bugs but JSS15J is much better, stable and got better GPU speeds within the kernel but the reason it was not released for the Nexus 4 is because it was suppose to be for the Nexus 7 and the Nexus 7 itself has that update anyway.

Just update ! It's all.
Guys,
Am on the latest version of PA rom on my Nexus 5, i.e pa_hammerhead-4.4-BETA1-20140603.
I want to now upgrade to the latest RC1, i.e pa_hammerhead-4.4-RC1-20140611.
How exactly do I do that? Just flash in recovery and move from PA 4.4.2 to PA 4.4.3? Or do i need to first update device 4.4.3 and then PA 4.4.3?
Or is a clean wipe and install enough?
Specifically, how do we update the the radio and boot loader before flashing the ROM. Are the updated 4.4,3 radios already included? Meaning I can just download the ROM via the PA OTA and flash? I am also on 4.4.2 last Beta mentioned above.

You need a 4.4.3 kernel.
Before reporting bugs you should always try the rom as it ships. You should not report things when you have modified them with kernels or mods, xposed, etc
